New York Gardenia

✨ Have you ever had a fragrance slip through your fingers? For me, the one that got away was Bond’s Saks Fifth Avenue for Her—a voluptuous bouquet of satiny gardenia and spicy tuberose over a blanket of creamy vanilla. It was a gorgeous scent evocative of humid Southern nights, with the air so damp and sweet you could drink it like nectar. So imagine my joy when I stopped at a Bond No 9 counter a few weeks ago and was told that my most coveted floral had been reissued as New York Gardenia... Some things are meant to be, after all. Now, this is a big, pillowy gardenia, creamy and damp. I usually struggle with gardenia’s mushroomy aspect, but in New York Gardenia, the intriguing fungal facet is framed by the spicy tuberose and lavish, near-gourmand peonies that smooth the mushroomy aspect to a sensual, satiny-soft aroma with a piquant earthy touch. It smells lively and fleshly, with the subtlest hint of cool champignons and a soft lemony twist. To me, this is gardenia in the glory of full bloom, one that luxuriates in the cool, dusky air, perfuming it with the kind of powerful yet sensual scent that can make one lovesick.

Damn, discovered the broken tester in my purse while sitting in my faithless lover’s apartment. He said “what is that, smells so good,” so I wore it for the rest of the spring/summer 2024 while I ran around, drunk and yearning. Tester after tester from Bloomingdale's until they probably put me on a list to never give me any more. Then I would just stride through the store and spray myself on the way to whatever event, wanting to trigger the memory of hot, selfish, immature sex. Many men commented on it. Frag for attracting boys with an aching sweet tooth... My delicious butter flower—the butter note is the weird hook it needs. It’s the butter melting on the toast I would have made us for breakfast if he stayed, and the pink trembling flesh.

If there ever was femininity in a bottle it would be this perfume. Imagine walking through the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the New York Botanical Gardens in the summertime when the gardenia are in full bloom. The heady creamy scent is thick in the air, so sweet and perfect. It is delicate without being overpowering like many gardenia and white floral scents are. This perfume clings to your skin in the best possible way and other people ask what you have on and compliment continuously because you smell divine. Yes, it is pricey. But it is worth every penny.

Beautiful Jasmine, Gardenia, Tuberose, I smell it in that order. The Jasmine REALLY makes this amazing! I have a LOT of White Flower/Gardenia Perfumes & I think I just found the best one ever created. Before that, or, running close is Creed's Gardenia & believe it or not, Elizabeth Taylor's. I bought a backup. I'm using this everyday, even if I do use something else too. I have not smelled Saks 5th Ave for her, now y'all have me curious.

Similar to Saks for Her but less cloying and less sweet which is a huge matter for me with summer heat. I detect a bit more vetiver that keeps the whole composition from going over to bubblegum territory. I have full sized bottles of both and have worn them side by side several times. Not a fly by night review based on a strip of paper or a squirt done at a store. Definitely taking this one with me during travel this summer.

My top 3 releases of 2024 were not winners but I did vote. 1. Amour Infinite (Smells like modern & chic rose petals thinly wrapped in white chocolate) 2. New York Gardenia- Bond No 9 (Classic non indolic, slightly sweet, touch of creaminess, cashmere smooth on a princess pillow of silked white florals) 3. Ce Lumiere- Beyoncé (It's a true flanker to Ce Noir but dialed back. It's like a baby Valaya)

I am so glad that this no longer a Saks exclusive. I love tuberose Gardena scents and Michael Almarac did a great job. I have wanted this for years but it was too pricey. I got a great price on a tester. It smells just like I remember.

Beautiful gardenia and tuberose fragance. I received compliments after 12 hours of wearing.

Random blind buy ($140 for full size tester bottle). Fantastic scent, however I don't see why Bond markets this as unisex...it's straight up 100% feminine. Florals galore (mostly gardenia and tuberose dominant), with a candy sweet opening of bubblegum or fruit melange. The dry down gets slightly woody and sweet with vanilla shades. Overall a fantastic scent. It's very "girly" and "pretty" smelling. I gave it to my girlfriend cause I don't see myself wearing this, as it's not suitable for a man at all.

I'm confused why this is a fragrance marketed for women and men. This is very feminine: opens with bubblegum tuberose, rose mid (i don't get gardenia) and white flower/vanilla dry down. It's a beautiful perfume. I don't get any animalic notes, just princess flowers

Was more of a New York Tuberose to me almost zero Gardenia detected, yet still pleasant. Waxy and a little green, very simplistic floral with surprisingly strong performance, will last you all day just want more gardenia

I agree with much of what MyMuse below cited in her review. So, "New York Gardenia" is allegedly a reformulation, or re-release of a similar Bond No. 9 fragrance, "Saks Fifth Avenue For Her." Tested this fragrance from a sizable decant in a quest to find a unique, tuberose-centric fragrance that can compete with my beloved Amouage "Love Tuberose." While I love "Love Tuberose," it seems recent formulations have weakened. Also, the fragrance is so so so expensive to liberally wear daily. New York Gardenia is disappointing. I am not a fan. Opens with prominent gardenia notes over a bed of tuberose, jasmine and vanilla. NY Gardenia is a gentle, nondescript white floral that could be mass appealing given the way it develops on skin. The fragrance waned within 30-60 minutes becoming a difficult-to-detect skin scent. At this price point?? An easy "NO."

This is a lineal tuberose and gardenia fragrance, very close to Gardenia by Elizabeth Taylor 9this is more natural smelling, a little bit). It is nice and fragrant, but at this price, I will buy my Gardenia by Elizabeth Taylor.

If you love tuberose and gardenia this is your scent, it’s ok for me because I’m not big fan of both.

Bitter juicy white floral... A very interesting tuberose gardenia blend! It balances between the juicy sweet tuberose and the dusty gardenia. I don't wither if it has more of a green note or dusty note that curbs the sweetness of the oily tuberose! It is a beautiful combination of sophistic, elegant night out, & smooth white floral that formed a charming aura, but unfortunately the price isn't as charming as the juice at all.

This is Saks. But cool! Now it’s not Saks exclusive. I thought maybe it was a bit fruitier and “pinker” but... nah... it’s Saks lol I think it’s very strong - not watered down at all. Maybe a bit more umph actually. Saks wear very skin like on me. Anyway, signature worthy!! Will wait for discount sites!

People saying its "a lighter version" of Saks for her, or "not as sweet" etc...but isn't this supposedly the EXACT same perfume in a different bottle/name? So confused. Was it reformulated? Or maybe their mind playing tricks on them? Lol.

I purchased this, because it has the same notes as my favorite, Saks Fifth Avenue for her, but it’s not as heavy or strong at SAKS. It says close to the skin, it’s OK, I will be sending back. I’m not pleased with it!

Bubble gum + coconut . Along the same vibes, if Fracas is vintage, Doson is realistic and Carnal Flower is art, then Gardenia Bond No. 9 (Saks Fifth for her??) is Barbie doll. Nice, but i can't take it seriously.

Heavy floral. I understand how this can be described as a floral gourmand. Also gets a little bubble-gummy in the dry down. Unexpected and cool in that way.

I tested this at Neimans it is a watery version of Saks for her in my opinion. But, I will still purchase it since I am a bond’s girl.
