Free Coco

I added this to my collection yesterday and I'll be completely honest, in the knowledge of the scent notes, I assumed I would not like this scent purely because of how vanilla/coconut heavy it is described as but oh my god this is proof that you should NOT judge a fragrance by its scent notes. Don't get me wrong, there's sweetness, that coconutty, tropical nuttiness with vanilla that is a risk of being intoxicating, but actually, I get a lot more raw nuttiness that combines so beautifully with this light, crisp and sparkling pear that cuts the lactonic gourmand indulgence from the vanilla. To me, this scent is yet another example of how BTSO manage to push the boundaries of a conventional gourmand and make it provoking and interesting. It's like hot, sweet holiday sweat with an enticing and seductive temptation to it. Not one I could wear every day but I can't help but love it, and that's coming from someone who doesn't love vanilla or gourmand-y scents.

Gorgeous if you like creamy vanilla! This perfume starts off with a very obvious pear scent but not in a fresh way. It actually reminds me of the smell of grated apple and biscuits I used to eat as a child. The coconut scent is also present but not necessarily overtaking any of the notes. They all blend together beautifully. As the scent develops it becomes very creamy and the vanilla seems to stand out. In the end the musk really shines through. I am very picky with musk, but this doesn’t bother my nose at all. Someone said it smells like cheirosa 62. It doesn’t. I have both and comparing them side by side. The cheirosa spray is more floral and airy. Free coco is sweeter, creamier and more musky.

Tried this in Selfridges and wasn’t expecting to like it. Coconut notes tend to smell like cardboard on me and it can be hit or miss. This, however, is lovely. The macadamia means it’s a delightfully nutty and light scent, rather than heavy. The vanilla is airy here. After 2 hours, one spray is standing out for me amongst other perfumes I’ve sprayed. I don’t think I would stretch to a full bottle because...£250. But to be honest, I’ve purchased other similarly expensive perfumes and liked them less than this. So: never say never.

Actually really nice. An opening of a bright, fresh, sparkly pear juice that quickly dissipates then the coconut and macadamia create a really pleasant sun lotion feel but not overtly coconutty, it's more like a really rich, nutty cocoa butter. Then it becomes a nice musky, skin in the sun sort of vanilla and lotion reminiscent of Sol De Janeiros Bum Bum but more luxe. I don't know what Orcanox is or does but perhaps it is what is doing the musky skin thing. The yellow bottle is Selfridge's packaging and also fits the vibe of the scent. 💛🍐🥥

Veeery thick and creamy, with a powderiness to it, but not in an iris way. Hard to explain. It has this distinct sweet musky feel that I've smelled before but can't place. I don't think it's the most original thing, but I think it's nice and it does what it sets out to do really well, better than other frags in this genre that end up smelling cheap.

Almost equal parts coconut and macadamia. The scent profile is very mellow, sweet and gourmand. Macadamia here is very realistic. Personally I think it smells borderline foody and not enough perfumy. The composition lacks some freshness and elevated touch. There is also some signature BTS oddness detectable. Typically I wear coconut scents in summer but this would be cloying. This is more of a cold weather scent to me.

Smells like a nutty banana pudding

So glad I didn’t blind buy this, I nearly did. Smells like Cheirosa 62 but I actually prefer Cheirosa 62 because it’s a bit more decadent.

I've just received my sample, so this is a rather early impression and I might add some things later on. I initially wanted to test it to confirm that I'm now officially done with sampling the brand, as the recent releases felt overpriced and like rather chaotic formulations with no thoughts put into, that no amount of influencer hype seemed to be able to disguise. This one, however, I suspect will become super popular, to say the least, and I think many will genuinely love. If you like ultra sweet gourmands, coconut and vanilla that is. It starts with a very nutty type of coconut, not like coconut water, but true, realistic coconut flesh with extra nuttiness. There’s a slight sharp, nutty coconut flesh, oily yet powdery 'edge' that cuts through, but I kinda like that. A hint of light fruity sweetness is also present, though I can’t say I get pear here, just something bright and fresh, but very minimal. It definitely delivers on the coconut. different to other coconut scents that never really get the 'nuttiness' quite right in my opinion. The coconut fades somewhat, but it never completely disappears. It becomes creamier and more almond-butter like, macadamia forward as it dries down. The vanilla notes are very sweet, almost milky. The late base reminds me a little of the base in Tom Fords 'Vanilla Sex', a very sweet, milky 'white' vanilla, but in here it retains a soft, lingering nutty nuance. For many years before it was discontinued, I used a shampoo that was 'macadamia and frozen yoghurt' scented, and I've long searched for a similar perfume. I have to say, it kinda reminds me of it in the mid notes. Some light white florals are missing, and 'Free Coco' is a little too intensely sweet on its own, but I think layering a single spray underneath a creamy white floral could give me a similar effect and might be really gorgeous. I might even consider buying a bottle simply for that purpose. However, this wouldn't be something i could wear by itself. It's too sweet, a bit boring and simple, and feels unfinished. It had the potential to serve as the base for a truly beautiful perfume. Some creamy white florals could have brought some brightness, added depth and complexity, and even slight sophistication. That said, someone that loves straightforward edible gourmands, might absolutely love this. *Update Yes. Unfortunately, this falls flat. The vanilla fades too quickly (How is the vanilla fading so quickly when the note breakdown specifically lists '3 vanillas'?). And once again, the base feels unfinished, as if there are materials missing in the base to smoothen out the edges and to bridge the transition to the final of the perfume. In the late stages, the coconuts 'sharp edge' that I initially liked in the top seems to reappear, but this time without any contrasting or complementing notes, results in a somewhat unbalanced, 'scratchy' effect. I initially rated it 5.5/10 but updated it. 5/10

I’m reviewing BTSO Free Coco and Commodity Milk Orchid together—not because they’re dupes, but because they offer a very similar wearing experience. Let me explain. Both fragrances open with a distinctly tropical feel. Milk Orchid leans more toward a piña colada or pineapple accord, while Free Coco is unapologetically coconut-forward from the start. As they develop, Free Coco becomes richer and more gourmand, with a pronounced coconut and macadamia creaminess. In contrast, Milk Orchid shifts into something more floral and slightly soapy, while still maintaining that underlying tropical vibe. For the first few hours, both are absolutely delightful—creamy, addictive, and easy to get lost in. Where things take a turn is in the very deep drydown—the kind you notice hours later or even the next morning if you’ve worn them to bed. The lingering musk becomes heavy and slightly dirty, even suffocating at times, reminiscent of the drydown in Matière Première Vanilla Powder. In conclusion, as long as you wash them off before bedtime, both fragrances are wonderfully addictive—tropical, creamy, and a real pleasure to wear.

There isn't a single thing about this perfume to even remotely justify the price point. It's not exactly like the Cheirosa but way too similar, sweet nutty vanilla with some coconut.

Delightfully creamy coconut and macadamia combo which is not too sweet. It’s winter now but will be perfect when the weather warms up.

does anyone know the release date for this? Cant find it anywhere online yet, would love to try it to have for the rest of summer

Just grab Sol de Janeiro 62 and overspray, you’ll get the same effect for a lot less.
