Smokin' Gun

7.9/10 Prefacing all my BTSO reviews with this disclaimer: not a fan of the marketing. Based on the brand's name, fragrances name and bottle design, it looks like one more fast fashion brand playing on the "be edgy, fuck society" vibe, all the while asking you to be a good consumerist and pay $50 for a white t-shirt. Juice-wise, the opening is smoky and boozy, incense reinforced by the wet, warm, at times waxy bitter orange, bitterness that gives it an almost animalic tone. Dries down to a pleasant, less orange-y, more tobacco-y, clear smoke scent, with an intriguing dance of notes--most prominently leather and vanilla--that feels like an everlasting surprise, never quite the same from one sniff to another. I like it a lot, but prefer the fairly similar, but more mature, Broken Theories by Kerosene. If the latter didn't exist I'd definitely go for Smokin' Gun.

This is a very artistic approach to boozy, tobacco. As a firearm enthusiast, I will say I don’t smell gun powder, but there is an accord being used here of something that is along those lines, mixed with 80% Spicebomb and Side Effect. The first 10 mins on hand was a little rough to get past, but the dry down is where this one shines. It smells very natural with high end ingredients. These types of fragrances tend to not last very long, but this one is different; it’s a performer. Around 8 hrs on skin which is impressive, the best part is that morphs into one of the best boozy tobacco fragrances I’ve ever smelled as time goes on, specially the 1 hour mark. I feel a lot of people will skip over this one due to the opening, but are missing out on all the compliments and happy vibes it brings shortly after. Storytelling niche all the way! 9.5/10

Sampling Borntostandout Smokin’ Gun, my final sample of the Dark & Drunk discovery set, a spicy, smoky, boozy pine scent with key notes of rum, whiskey, juniper, incense, and leather, with a bit of an interesting black licorice vibe at the very opening, giving way to a smoother dry down with less of the sharpness and acidity over time. It’s a fun, dark, multifaceted concoction that I instantly loved from first spray, and it’s probably tied with Drunk Maple as my favorite of the line that I’ve tried so far, a really great option for cooler weather and to stand out interestingly, and it performs quite well, also. As with the rest of the line, this is EDP concentration and priced at $210 for 50ml, reasonable enough for niche perfumery in the current market. 8 out of 10

This scent is so incredible, I wish I could get my hands on a bottle. It is super smokey at first as other reviews describe, but that fades on me pretty fast (although personally I do enjoy the smoke) and reveals a cinnamon-spiced wood and plenty of juniper/pine. It's so delightful, reminiscent of the spicebomb line. I own and frequently wear infrared and have smelled dark leather, and smokin gun sort of smells like those two combined- though heavier on the boozy smokey notes. I own so many scents with this profile, but there's just something special about this blend.

It smells like a old leather jacket worn by a cowboy, soaked in whiskey and tobacco, i love it, my friends love it but most of girls/woman i aksed hate it, its more like a fregrence to enjoy with guys than a date night sexy mass apealing sweet fuckboy fregrence like jpg la male elixir or swy intensly, its difrent and lasts 7-10 hours on skin and whole week on cloathes. I sprayed it on my leather jacket and now the smell wont come off, its just the jacket scent rn 8/10 I wish it had more woody notes

Polarizing is definitely one way to describe this fragrance. I, personally, love it. But definitely not a safe blind buy for most. The smoke is reminiscent of autumn bonfires in the mountains with friends, topped with a healthy dose of booze and orange if you look for it. I get more of an orange marmalade and fresh zest though. That could be a result of how it plays with the sweetness of the rum. On a cold day, this is an overall win.

i love boozy tobacco smells so smokin' gun is right up my alley. it's definitely not an everyday scent for me - it does come off strong and can be a bit irritating sometimes so i save it for special occasions. on the right day it feels so hot and empowering - but sometimes i have to keep my distance

Coming from a middle eastern back ground, this perfume can be a hit with its leathery smokey character. for some ppl this might sound over smoked, but,,,chill and give it sometime.. allow the perfume to speak out. for my nose I can smell rum and whisky with hint for balsamic notes over all 7.5/10

I don’t get the hate so far... guarantee no one who has voted has tried this house. This actually smells very nice.. has Herod/Oajan vibes.. boozy and a nice smoke to it. Is it ground breaking, no.. but it smells really nice

First hit and you're dazed and confused and then you wake up and realise it's the 1800s and you're slathering on some wood tar on some ship's hull.

The best woody and smoky fragrance, what i have! Huge sillage, and 8+hours longevity! You have to try this!!

Starts off as a modern fougère with a blast of cinnamon (plus other/s spice/s) and some coumarinic sweetness which reminded me quite a bit of Azzaro PH Intense (2016), less citrusy/floral and denser, more rounded and 'compact'. You'll get a hint of 'clean' smokiness more in the direction of Fidelis by HdP rather than pure gunpowder smoke á lá Beaufort let's say. The heart of the fragrance though resembles more of an amber perfume with labdanum, vanilla and resins but with a huge support of Iso E and musks which leads it to a more contemporary take on the theme (think Ambre Narguile with less cinnamon). In the late drydown again I get hints of the fougère style where timid leather and some mossiness dominates the last stages. Good performance and longevity and overall a nice blended perfume but nothing too creative nor brings any novelty to write home about.

This is a really nice boozy tobacco fragrance. Right from the start I get tobacco, leather, and smoke...it reminds me of smoking a brisket on aromatic wood chips. After the opening, the smoke and leather die down and it's largely boozy, fruity tobacco and resins. I'm not a big fan of oak and cedar in fragrance, but I don't get much of those until the dry down, and even then the oak is not very prominent. This has decent longevity and projection. Leans masculine, IMO, but I'm a female and would definitely wear this. There are a lot of boozy tobaccos on the market, so this isn't anything new or revolutionary, but it's well done and would be a fantastic one for cooler weather. I've heard some great things about this house, and based of my experience with this one, I'd like to try more.

I like this one. First impression: that rarest of things, a "black" men's fragrance that isn't terrible for being saccharine. Wood, rum, and tobacco are all there as top notes, I think the campari too if a bit subtly. Had an almost rubbery (burnt?) smell in the opening too, but it seems to be lessening. Definitely masculine, really drying down, losing sweetness. I like it. Don't love it. I think it is better than something like the Spicebomb that my wife likes so much...I will have to ask her what she thinks.

A beautiful blend of bitterness, sweetness, smokiness, freshness, and warmth. All the top notes listed spot on and a delight to experience. The leather, incense, tobacco, and wood notes are all present in just the right amounts as to not be too heavy. It's a lovely cool weather scent. My only complaint is that to me it smells nearly identical to Cuir by Molinard which is... oof less than a third of the price ($49) of Smokin Gun ($185) and has nearly the same performance / longevity as well.

yeah it smells like a smoking gun. you'd mostly get gunpowder and smoke and some other notes that are supporting the smoky vibe (whiskey ect.). I mean i've never fired a gun but it'd probably smell like this. You could also assume that the smoky vibe in here is the same as the smoky vibe you'd get from a burning match. It's not bad, just smoky lol

Smells like a more Campari, rum and juniper forward take on Jusbox Black Powder. Really get some similarities with that fragrance but not as potent as BP. Don’t get much of a gunpowder “Smokin Gun” accord but there is something metallic lurking in the background. Quite long lasting but not beast mode.

A barbershop imho. Smoky spicy woody metallic lavender with greens. Reminds me of Burning Barbeshop by DS Durga. Not my taste

Very good but in my opinion not yet mature

I honestly expected something stronger based on other BTSO scents and reviews... This is actually a pretty mild scent, considering the notes. It is only slightly smoky, there are much, MUCH smokier fragrances out there, trust me. I get the barbershop reference. It kinda smells like a generic fancy aftershave. Pity, I expected something truly groundbreaking, considering the name and the notes.

Smokin’ Gun starts with the promise of an old Western saloon: light tobacco smoke, sweet tobacco leaf, a faint hint of whisky, and just a touch of worn leather. As it develops, however, vanilla, cinnamon, and clean, light woods soften the composition until it loses its nerve. It never commits to the old saloon. The Smokin’ Gun isn’t an S&W Schofield—it’s a plinky little .22 target pistol.

Smells exactly like the incense they used to burn in a strange rastafari store we had in my hometown as a kid. Imagine a musty pothead with unwashed dreadlocks. Not a particularly nice smell, but certainly niche. Definitely needs to be sampled before buying, this is not your typical boozy-tobacco type scent. 3/10

Weird butter orange and wood combo. The profile is ridiculous. Everything else, ‘dept maybe the juniper berries, is packed into a muddled non-distinct nuance. Not much harmony or balance. Also not the worst smell. 🤷♂️ Has all the charm of cheap aftershave.

Smells just like swedish snus (with salmiak) with tobacco, rum and leather. Not really for me.

Initial first breath of oudy incense quickly followed up by sweet tobacco coming more ashy and losing more of its initial sweetness as it dries down. The result is an ashy tobacco, but (thankfully) not over the top ash tray. There's enough incense and herbs or whiskey or something mixed in, but for most of the day it was a dry tobacco ash. Hard not to compare it to TF's which I find more unisex and appealing, though bigger up front. This to me leans more masculine and, well cigar bar like. I'm not a big fan of the whole ashy tobacco (TF was a gift) so it doesn't do anything for me personally. I guess if you like TF and want to take it down a few notches, but still want a long lasting tobacco vibe this might be for you. I'm testing blind this whole brand, and so far a quarter in the who naming and brand identity doesn't fit. There's no smoking gun here. The juniper and orange I don't get at all, not sure how that is voted the top note, it's all tobacco then incense-woods, whiskey-rum etc.

Smoking Gun is just not my thing at all, not that I even half expected it to be. To my nose, this fragrance's whole vibe is just off, really. It starts with a kind of burnt-juniper, acrid spicy-sour smokiness that hits you like someone just set a fire in your face. There’s this charred wood mixed with something stale and liquered, like a slab of meat alcohol-drowned annd overcooked were left out in the sun. I sort of get a feeling it's tryna pull off this rugged, raw energy, but it simply comes off more mistake than statement. As it lingers too, the smoke just refuses to soften, kicking its filthy overworn boots up and smashing tobacco-stained glassware on the floor. It stays harsh and overwhelming throughout, with hints of dry leather and ashy elements that just cannot be put as pleasant. That bold burned-out, unpleasant aftertaste just makes you want to get away from it, bold in a way that leaves you with a furrowed grimace. Definitely not something I’d enjoy smelling.

It's so heavy on the smoke that I cannot get a read on any of the other notes. If this was just toned down by half the rest might be able to get through to enjoy, because all the other notes I would love. Sadly not for me.

Update: full bottle wasn't quite like my sample! Selling on mercari for pretty cheap if anyone is interested!

Big similarities to Akro Smoke. So much so that even though I really like this, I coudn't own both. Campfire smoke, rich tobacco with hints of whiskey or similar oak-aged liquors. A smoldering-balsamic amber at it's core. This is slightly more complex than Smoke, as I get more woody nuances and things like juniper at the top. I notice the oak more fully, and it enhances the whisky feeling as well. I'm not sure I like that aspect though. I'm also not sure there's enough here to warrant paying double the price of Smoke, so it's going to be a pass from me. Not sure what the review below is going off about, as I would still suggest sampling if you're into this boozy-campfire profile.

As the name would suggest, this is a very smoky fragrance. Way too smoky and incense-y for my taste tbh. It makes me cough almost and reminds me of stale smoke in a bar. If you can get past the smoke, there is a lot of good stuff going on in the background. I can especially smell and enjoy the (unburnt) tobacco. There is also a coolness (as in temperature not charisma) probably coming from the juniper or pine. It’s not boozy to my nose despite having several boozy notes listed. Imo all genders could wear this. I think this brand is also cruelty free and vegan friendly, although I can’t be certain since the statement of their website is rather “artistic” and not so direct :)

اذا تعرف عطر توباكو فاني و بوا سيكار من اتيلييه دي اورز، هذا العطر وكأنه مزيج بين العطرين، الإسم على كل حال يشرح لك فكرة رائحة العطر، سموكن قن، بمعنى رائحة البارود او السلاح بعد اطلاق النار، العطر قدم رائحة التوباكو بطريقة خشبية بوزيه ثقيلة، عطر داكن، مليء بالسبايسي مع وجود الجلود، جميل، ولكن أعتقد انه لم يقدم الجديد، اعتقد بسبب مكونات ونوتات هذا العطر انه افضل في الاداء من بعص اخوانه.

I am a big fan of smokey oud/guiacwood/agarwood fragrances. We all know those can be a bit heavy for every day, all the time. I think this is a great daytime option for me. Kind of reminds me of a lighter sibling of The Oud Affair by Vilhelm.

Tonka, tobacco ashes and castoreum. Very interesting blend and an almost completely different scent on skin than on paper where it's a drier scent with no apparent leather facets.
