Chypre du Nord

Finally a chypre that actually smells like what I imagine/imagined that a chypre should smell like based on the notes and the descriptions of it. Very well blended, classy, mature, vintage. Deep, dark brownish-green, the exact HTML/CSS hex code for it would be: #0e2403 (just put this into google and you'll see the color) If i compare this to Diaghilev (which is what I do with all purported chypres) - it is a greener, woodier, mossier, smokier, drier, muskier, darker, more melancholic and masculine version of it. If Diaghilev is bright and fruity and opulent, like a royal ball in a large bright hall, and unisex - like a couple dancing - this one - while with a hint of sweetness - is more serious, a bearded author writing his last novel in a wooden cabin in the Scandinavian forest, with a glass of liquor by his side: more leathery/smoky - almost old furniture - flirting with mysticism and old Norse gods. It has the weight of ancient wisdom, tradition, an old book (scroll even), an antique store, a Russian aristocrat's mansion, a forest hunter's moment of deep thought in the year 1791. It's damp wood at midnight. It is the northern House Reed from the song of ice and fire book series (game of thrones ) It is heavy-handed, strong, dry and musky. Citruses are very muted, peach is more prominent - as an aroma, not a flavor. If I understand correctly, this contains some real oakmoss and natural musk? I love it.

I usually trust rajesh in all things parfum. However, I respectfully disagree when it comes to this new scent. I feel after recently trying around 1000 niche smells in my journey to finding a signature scent, this stands out to me. It smells like something roja would release, which is a compliment coming from me as I feel they are one of the best houses out there. It lasts forever and smells glorious! I'm getting a full bottle and will update upon another full wear to break down notes. Update: So I received the bottle after sampling on luckyscent.com and have to say, I was not wrong at in the least. This stuff is amazing, I love it. It was compared to diaghilev by roja, actually I was told this is a cheaper version. I disagree, I like this more. Diag comes off more soapy to me and is more linear. I don't feel this is cheap at all, in fact I would say you can smell the quality. The fruit on top seems aged and complex. The nutmeg gives the fruit a nice spice. The base is musky and full of, how can I say this, sex! The birch tar also seems aged and is dense and complex without being cloying. It's sexy and masculine. It's new and old. Longevity and sillage are on point. I love it and think you will as well. Try it If you don't @me!

::::::For the love of the hunt::::: Wow what even is this?! Picture: Early morning, boreal forests, huntsmen carrying the hides of just-skinned animals back to the castle, where a mean, royal war god is sipping his morning earl gray on his balcony, naked, under a huge wolf fur coat, in the crisp and slightly smoked winter air. Every review of Chypre du Nord describes a different experience. This is totally not safe for blind buying! On me, it opens with orange, bergamot and the moss' promise of a great fizzy fuzzy chypre which is my all time favoured style. There are no florals here. I can barely detect a peeled and sliced peach emerging as a charming accent under what is turns out to be the main thing on my skin: GUNPOWDER and FIREWORKS!!! How does this even manage to smell nice? Is this the magic effect of the true deer musk? The strange burnt metal is quite unique, I find traces of tonka underneath somewhere, musty mosses and hints of sweetgrass and other foresty things come and go. I'm totally puzzled and amazed! Chypre du Nord has moderate longevity/projection but makes you tingle inside. It's mean and weirdly sexy. Raunchy but classy. Almost barbaric at times but somehow also gentle and considerate. Enough said.

Reviewing a bottle from 2024. Chypre du Nord was launched in 2020. This is a leathery tarry resinous fragrance refined with real musk and a touch of peach. It is a version of a Chypre re-interpreted by the addition of northern ingredients. Chypre du Nord opens with restrained bergamot soon joined by soft leather and subdued/stewed peach. There is herbal greenness .The base has a dry and dusty texture almost like charcoal with a touch of smoke likely due to the dry cedar and birch tar- a brilliant addition that makes this fragrance modern and unique. The musk is beautiful not the strong ultra-clean synthetic musk that is so overused nowadays. This musk melds with the resinous base adding a subtle animalic touch. It is not vintagey nor is it powdery. Quality- excellent 5/5 (quality ingredients and blending) Unisex- leans slightly masculine Performance- excellent 5/5 Rich warm musk with a bright citrus/ peach opening and a resinous charcoal base. Just beautiful. 9/10

Mossy chypre with a faint atmosphere of resin and tonka bean on opening. I'm getting the orange and nutmeg as well, but they are in the background and not at all dominant. This is a chypre with character. It's unsmiling and somewhat earnest; nothing light or breezy about it, despite the whiff of orange. It's the kind of perfume I'd wear to bolster a wavering state of mind; a magic potion banishing frivolity or states of distraction. Rather linear and beautiful throughout all stages, lasting for hours without having to put nose to skin. Popeye The Sailor Man tonic. I've grown to like this more than before. I don't like it for the first hour, as when I first apply it all I can smell is oakmoss, with no top notes and none of the usual Bortnikoff sparkle. But it settles down into a lovely drydown. I don't think this is one of his better ones, however, as it really does feel lopsided and amateur. It smells good because the ingredients are good but to compare this to Mitsouko etc is absolutely batshit.

Lovely scent. Smells like a warm hug from Santa during winter in the Sistine chapel while painted Jesus candles are burning around you Unfortunately the performance is bad for an extrait and the luxury price point. 2 hours tops and that's on clothes

the opening of this perfume and I'd say the first 15 minutes or so are the best. On direct spray you get all the fruits, bright, fizzy and sparkling but they quickly give way to a glorious 15 minutes of lightly smoked birch and tonka with a herbaceous mossy backdrop. It does feel quite cold, serious and almost a touch gothic, but never straying too far into that territory thanks to the fruits keeping it just light enough. After this, it turns a bit soapy and powdery which is fine, but I prefer it before the soapiness kicks in. The whole thing is underscored by the musk that Bortnikoff tends to be famous for, It's fatty, animalic and urinous. I have to admit, as much as I don't like the use of real deer musk in perfumery, it does smell good blending with the moss and tonka and birch in the base. Could it be done with synthetics? Probably, yes. Overall nothing groundbreaking, but a classical composition done exceedingly well.

Chypre du Nord is actually a pretty decent fragrance. Earthy citrus and floral heart. I had spent the last 3 years learning about chypres and mastering them to some extent and amassed quite a nice collection of truly vintage fragrances from as early as 1920s. This is one I would purchase because I would wear it. Very unisex as well. Not your mitsuoko or diaghilev, but a fragrance of its own. 8.5/10

I don’t always trust my olfactory senses but what I smell....peach...but with the additional notes like musk and cedar the peach is less “fruity”. It’s not pungent and more of a “gentleman’s” fragrance.....It is unique. I’ll add more as I wear it....I think this can easily be an all season fragrance.

Interesting and a decent, fresh, spring scent, but with very little intensity and projection, which is surprising, as most of this brand's perfumes project very strongly. It smells really nice, but after two hours, it's barely detectable on the skin.

Fair aromatic chypre that unfortunately offers nothing new to this genre. It opens with notes of lime and bergamot moving to a brief heart of apricot and nutmeg before settling into a mossy powdery base highlighted by oakmoss, tonka bean, benzoin, cedar and real deer musk. Absolutely nothing new and far from the best this line has to offer. Overall it is pleasant, wearable and well blended, but nothing more than that.

It was OK, but after an hour or so, the scent reminded me of something from my childhood. I finally put my finger on it - the scent of mothballs, when my mother would take her fur coat out of the closet after it had been there all summer, with a bag of mothballs attached to the hanger. Ah, such memories. I won't be buying it.

The birch tar here is nothing like the luxe Cuir de Russie (Areej Le Doré), combined with the scratchy "peach"—similar to Sayat Nova's "apricot"—creates a burnt butter type of smell that is rather unpleasant & synthetic.

I like the bottle. The fragrance smells like something from the year 0022 instead.

Je ne sais pas comment les gens trouvent que la tenue est moyenne alors que ce Parfums est indélébile il reste sur la peau pendant des heures et des heures toute la journée et sur les vêtements n’en parlant même pas. Mais par compte il tache les vêtements impossible de se parfumer. À part si vous mettez du noir, j’aime beaucoup l’odeur ça me fait penser à l’hiver sauvage dans les montagnes ou peut-être alors que je possède une ancienne version et que ça a été reformulé actuellement Effectivement, ça a été reformulé Moi j’ai l’ancienne version avec le jus marron très foncé, mais comme je vous l’ai dit ça tacher énormément les vêtements ils ont changé les matières et le jus aujourd’hui est un jaune très clair. Donc je pense que la tenue doit être plus légère beaucoup plus facile à porter. Moi celui que je possède, on dirait une potion plus qu’un Parfum.

It’s amazing how fragrance and memory work. This fragrance is from my childhood, when my dad would hug me goodnight before leaving with my mom on a date night. It’s the smell of his leather jacket that had been sitting in the closet most of the year, layered with a classic men’s barbershop. I think my dad wore either Hermes Bel Ami or some kind of Cartier fragrance. Either way this fragrance instantly transports me back to childhood. School year, fall, early sunsets, cooler nights.

An odd one. The overall scent is mostly peach, citrus, moss, and leather. Interestingly enough, this combination meshes well together. Benzoin and tonka add smoothness to the composition while birch tar adds a layer of fine smoke that comes off as leather. Later on, the peach takes a back seat, while bergamot takes the center stage along with a nice dose of sparkling ambergris and pink pepper. It's a unique chypre, done remarkably well. I really enjoy wearing it.

Birch tar, oakmos, and soured peaches... I get an extra citron, yuzu, and cedar mixed with oakmoss, oranges, birch tar, and more spices. The peaches are sour, and quite quench. It is a chypre blend that is amusing, and kind of sensually masculine somehow. Beautiful.

Black tea, vanilla, tonka, musk and ylang. The sibling to Musk Khabib, not as musky though and with some sort of camphorous facet. An airy bergamot grows the longer it sits. The creaminess is highly similar though. Pleasant! Khabib is my preferred choice though

It's ok. Can't dislike it, but it doesn't try to be charming either. It's just clean smelling that leans towards the dry side. Smells like hay to be exact. Nothing negative about it, it's just boring.

Did the juice have changed? It is not so vibrant, looks like diluted/straw-coloured. After the spray it is a skin scent..

A mild chypre with some sweetness 5.5/10

Very similar to Mitsouko by Guerlain.
