Lucky Oud

I love Lucky oud, for a long time it was my favourite from the line and I am deeply sorry I didn't get a bottle because I believed in the Sayat Nova hype and the first announcements saying that SN was a limited edition of only 100 bottles. When I went back to Lucky Oud, it was already sold out. The other is in regular production and I'm still dealing with depression lol, still annoyed at my bad decision, can't help it, but let's see if Dmitry brings this back one day and we be reconciled. Lucky oud is interesting, daring and so charming. The strong oud and cacao are noticeable but what makes this unique is the lotus-sandalwood blend. It is weirder smelling than most Bortnikoffs and I don't think it is a fragrance you can wear every day, I agree with the comment below in that it would've benefitted a lot from being simpler as it can get over the top (sweet, funky, awkward) if applied for the wrong occasion. Let's see if the new Santa Sangre with its sandalwood and lotus brings back some of this magic... but always sample first, I learned for good that some hypes promoted by friends are not always something to be trusted.

Another winner from Bortnikoff for me! A unique floriental with gourmandish qualities stemming from the cacao/tonka/vanilla. Opening is gourmandish cacao with a somewhat nutty note, then the sweetness dies down and an exquisite lotus appears. After many hours this dries down to that signature semi-animalic rose de mai note Dmitry uses in Oud Maximus and Zemfira, accompanied with faint oud. Those who have tried Oud Monarch can expect something in that ballpark but with the addition of a wild Thai lotus which really makes this one a special entry in the Bortnikoff lineup. This one is bottle worthy, smells like a fragrance made between his 2nd and 3rd collection as it takes bits and pieces of both styles. This is different enough from Oud Monarch to not be a redundant purchase 8.5/10 ー🎅

Bortnikoff has done it again. He is showing that he is one of the modern day masters of real oud. The opening to me is mainly sweet lotus with creamy sandalwood and the trat oud in the background. A little challenging, not as much as Oud Maximus or Mysterious Oud, a little more so than Oud Monarch, but I find it perfectly balanced. The sour notes keep the floral sweetness in check. The dry down is reminiscent, but not the same of Oud Monarch and on the slightly sweeter side. Oud, Tonka, Vanilla and Cacao all play a role. Moderate projection and very good longevity, not a beast, but not a soft fragrance either. Perfect for lovers of oud/sandalwood and florals that don't lean particularly feminine.

Mmm...this is a beautiful perfume. I love the way the sandalwood and the lotus are fuzed, creating an wonderful olfactory experience. The oud and cacao in this perfume reminds me somewhat of the oud and cacao combo in Oud Monarch by Bortnikoff, but with a much lighter touch, especially on the oud. I also feel like the rose, vanilla and tonka create another olfactory aspect that feels somewhat blended together, instead of the notes standing alone...at least to my nose. This adds to the perfume and does not detract, in my opinion. Just a beautiful and light oud/lotus, sandalwood, rose/vanilla/tonka, beauty that I really enjoy. If anyone is looking to get rid of their bottle, I'd be interested.

This is some magical stuff. Expertly balanced. While not a listed note, I do get a sweet tobacco feel out of it. Otherwise, it's hard to pull out individual notes. The oud balances nicely with the sweeter top notes. I don't get any of the annoying chemical feeling that happens with far too many fragrances. It's just... transcendent. I'll give this a 9/10. Hell yeah.

Returning to Lucky Oud after 5 years -- I'm fortunate in that I managed to snag a bottle (partial), but I also have a Lucky Scent sample from 5+ years ago, and that sample, like most LS samples, has evaporated so much that I literally have a Lucky Oud attar to work with! Only about 0.1 or 0.2 mls, but it works SOOO much better as an oil than a perfume. The floral elements and the sandalwood project in a more even manner, and the choc elements are muted somewhat. Overall, this is a very VERY smooth scent, with the aforementioned noted, and a tropalicious lotus that elevates this scent. The oud isn't as big of a player in this 'oil' version, but it's still there. I must say, though, there is very striking resemblance to Oud Monarch -- I would say most people wouldn't be able to tell them apart -- and that's not a sleight to most people or the perfumes themselves -- they are quite similar, and if you have one, you probs won't need the other. I, on the other hand, have BOTH, so, yeah...

an incredibly smooth, choc-lotus-rose beginning that morphs into a slighly moist oud number about 4 or 5 hours in. deeply intriguing and intoxicating. in the same ballpark as monarch, but not as dense and/or layered. you may not like what bortnikoff does, but what he does he does well...

A really interesting and somewhat challenging Floriental from Bortnikoff. The perfume opens in a sourish cloud of styrax, vanilla and cacao. It then transitions to a heart of rose and lotus surrounded by sandalwood. The perfume settles on a bed of Oud sweetened by tonka bean. The drydown is very nice although the opening can be a bit off putting. The perfume is not the best from this line but the lotus Oud combination is quite striking and lovely. Moderate to strongly projecting unisex perfume with excellent longevity. Enjoy!

barnyard oud* plus good gourmand notes. why on earth ruin it with a poopy oud? makes no sense. almsot as if bortnikoff wants to smell niche for the sake of being niche and unappealing

Having tested all of the Xerjoff Oud Stars fragrances, I can easily label this as a pass. I found most if not all of the Oud Stars fragrances to be superior to this.
