Highlands

In my quest for the tuberose-chypre of my dreams (thanks, Divine!), Highlands was one suggestion I received. While it indeed consists of the right notes, I knew immediately that it was not what I had in mind. Highlands is more of a green, aromatic leather scent, less floral and more masculine than I hoped for. However, it is an excellent, high-quality chypre, on-theme and delicious throughout. Highlands is aromatic from the opening, with radiantly fresh juniper leading the way, pine-like and reminiscent of a gin & tonic. Other herbal notes creep in early on, and clean, green-tinged tuberose adds body, muted and slightly soapy. It becomes increasingly mossy as it develops, anchored by the smooth, refined leather accord in the base. The hay note becomes very prominent, dry, grassy and realistic, complemented by some oakmoss. There is a soapiness to it here too. Clean musk creeps in as it dries down, fading to a mossy, soapy skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a masculine-leaning, transeasonal scent. An airy, soapy, mossy leather chypre, Highlands is a deeply satisfying scent, evocative of its theme. It is smooth, aromatic and beautifully-balanced, made with high-quality, natural-smelling materials. A roll in the hay, bottled. 4.5/5.

This is truly a wonderful fragrance. It's right up my alley, it makes me feel good and I can't stop smelling it. An olfactory journey through the Scottish Highlands, so wide, green, wild, picturesque, with a beauty that will take your breath away. And we are talking about beauty here: a tuberose which is the graceful base for an explosion of green notes and a hint of leather. I really like it, ended up on my wishlist. “Scotland at Noon” painted by Turner.

Such a good, hearty, green scent. When you want to smell really green, like, you’ve just rolled around in damp moss and walked through a temperate rainforest, but also a little clean and cosy, like you’re now kicking back with a cup of tea, this would be ideal. I think the slightly creamy earl grey and the softening hay balance it out gorgeously. I think the name suits it perfectly!

Very clean scent, I have to say I got punched in the face by this perfume, the opening was SO strong, then the hay made an appearance and I loved it, it's so soft and clean, just beautiful.

Great smell. I can't get enough of it. It gives me such a soapy feeling and the drydown is like lying in hay

Light green, lemony fresh, and slightly herbal - these are my first impressions when Highlands comes out of the bottle. Then, after just a few second, it blends in nicely some clean floral notes. Then there is something familiar underneath it, like in many gourmands, that gives it some smooth weightiness - but only to a very small extent. Becomes a bit soapy afterwards, while not giving up on the green herbal character. Overall, a sophisticated delicate greeny! Maybe just unisex - nonetheless, more of a men's fragrance while not being overly masculine. This is not a typical citrus fresh DNA but rather a realistic nature scent that reminds of a lot of greenery, mostly made-up of lush grasses and smaller-leaf foliage. Clearly an open field - we are not in the woods - however, for the typical Scottish highlands scent the damp wet earthiness is missing. Is there patchouli in here? Also those typical meadow flowers with a slight harsh scent, still wet from the last rain, are not fully present. Speaking from memory here, based on various trips to the Scottish highlands. Either way, Highlands by Botanicae is a great fragrance! Natural, realistic, and authentic - as long as you imagine some grassy fields with a few winter-hard flowers somewhere else in the world. Pleasant to wear - intense but never over-powering - a well-crafted perfume that's a good addition to any collection.

Being Scottish I was curious to try this scent, but theres nothing that smells remotely of Scotland here. Tuberose flowers also don’t grow here in our generally wet, dreary and cold weather... we also don’t tend to drink “Earl Grey” tea... that’s a known love of people in England.... so I did suspect I’d have this view but was curious anyway. "Highlands | Botanicae Expressions" is a very nice, laundry smelling tuberose perfume but there’s nothing Highland smelling about this. This actually smells very similar to one of my favourite scents "Isles Lointaines | Keiko Mecheri". This is long lasting and would be lovely for spring or summer. For an authentic smell of Scotland, opt for scents from the Scottish owned fragrance house called “Kingdom Scotland”! They have two scents that for me represent Scotland well - "Portal | Kingdom Scotland" and "Kingdom Botanica | Kingdom Scotland". These are fresh, green, high quality scents. I have both on my wish list. I’d also say the wildflower & green meadow hay scent "Camporella | Gleam" smells like most places in Scotland during spring and summer. For a Scottish smelling autum/winter scent, "Harvest Mouse | Zoologist" is a cozy mix of vanilla, hay and beer. So if you love a fresh laundry tuberose scents, "Highlands | Botanicae Expressions" is for you, but absolutely ZERO reference to the Highlands of Scotland here!

Some about this reminds me of Ralph Lauren's Safari for women--a lovely woody green floral thing with heavily grassy overtones. Now, Highlands isn't an exact smell alike--this has more "prickly woods" in it. Safari is, ultimately, a classic and better to my nose.

Love this, it’s such a green and fresh fragance, but in a cozy way. You can wear this in summer and also in Winter, up in the mountain in a cold but sunny day.

Even though it’s listed as a base note, the initial spray is very tuberose heavy. It’s a lipstick/powdery tuberose which comes across very femme, reminiscent of your mom’s 1970s perfume. After a bit it settles a little and you get a little of the tea and herbal notes, but the tuberose stays fairly heavy. Eventually there is a hint of hay and leather. I am surprised the hay is not more prominent. The consistent tuberose makes it a little too femme for me. Furthermore, I can’t really see an occasion when I would grab this and think it’s the perfect scent for the day. It’s not inherently bad and I don’t think anyone would think it’s offensive, but I am not sure when, especially a guy, would want to wear it. Overall 5/10, but the score might be higher if the wearer was an older lady.

This is an ok fragrance. Opens up white floral from the tuberose, dries down to a woody, aromatic green fragrance, the hay is really dominant in the dry down. Longevity and projection are mild.

Hard to say how I feel about this one. It rides that fine line between being pleasent in an natural, meditative way that deep green scents often manage, but it's not doing a lot to surprise me with anything super unique and feels and bit stale and dense. Aromatic, grassy tuberose primarily, leading into a mossy, mildly sweet hay note. A bit cozy and leathery and slightly mentholated, nicely conjuring the feeling of being in the cold, windswept countryside lush with fields of grass. It's something you just have to sit with for a while and contemplate as it feels a bit introspective. I'm imagining it's a gloomy, cool day and a storm is forming in the distance and I'm wrapped up in a jacket. Not as sharp and fleeting as synthetic jungle (not sure why that's suggested but I'm not super familiar with it), and closer to typical tuberose scents that lean into the mildly sweet and soapy side of the note, while also being a bit earthy and bitter. I was expecting something a little rougher and wild, but the smooth, gentle blending suits it well as it settles into a musky, mossy leather. Further on the hay note comes forward more, with it's nondescript muted, dry coumarin-focused flavor, but that's where I feel a bit neutral about it, as the scent veers towards an aroma I've smelled a number of places, but with less imaginative character. edit: I see the resemblance to Tubereuse now, and I have to say the Headspace perfume provides a little more intrigue where this fell flat for me. Similar tuberose-leather drydown but not identical.

The star of the show is definitely tuberose. Followed by a soft and calming hay-note, which is not all that usual. All notes are favourites of mine, so I'm bound to like this. I think it's very clear. Clear like spring water, or a cold, early spring sky. It definitely has an airy quality about it, very light and airy, which is beautiful. Floral-soapy. A bit mossy. Subtly leathery. Impression of the tea, and the juniper, is not as strong, but it's there. I'm guessing the moss is what makes this seem somewhat masculine-leaning, but I think the tuberose is pushing it more towards the feminine. In the end, I really don't know. Let's just say unisex. Reflection man comes to mind. Not that they are alike, but both are in the same style somehow. Floral-masculine, based on one singular floral note. What Reflection is for jasmine – Highlands is for tuberose. This one is more unisex, I think. It's a good one, but you have to like tuberose. And hay.

Since when is a tropical flower aligned with the smell of a cold, rocky, hilly landscape in Europe? This is probably a well-executed tuberose scent. I wouldn't know to be frank, as I am not a fan of tuberose. However, the glaring issue is that this smells nothing like Scotland. Where is the heather? How about some lavender? Maybe even some peat smoke? Do you have any cold, mineral stone? I am not asking for all of these, but instead something that remotely matches the name of the scent. The juniper note could work, but I find it to not be there. It smells more of a damp rainforest with cut stems and a touch of dry leather than the frigid north. This perfume is probably spectacular on its own, but this is a massive marketing failure.

This is some really great stuff! Clean musk creamy herbal tea scent. Very easy to wear and a nice break from the constant vanillic and citrus fragrances that dominate the market. Might be mid for some but I can't see anyone straight up dislike this one.

First introduction to this brand ,95 euro is a steal for a fragrance of this quality,better than an awful lot of my expensive brands.Lovely strong aromatic tea fragrance, masculine but soft.Cannot wait to try some more of the line.
