Cuir de Venise

This line from Boucheron is yet to disappoint me, and as much as i love Tonka de Canaima, gotta say this one is the most sophisticated from their releases yet. Opening is a strong raw cocoa seed smell - and by that i do not mean cocoa powder, or chocolate whatsoever - its raw vegetation, dusty and powdery, slightly bitter, almost animalic - this is where the "cuir" moment is, and it doesn't last particularly long. After the initial blast of opening, the middle notes make themselves very present while still complimenting rather than completely overtaking the opening. The smell goes into a more balsamic, sweeter and more creamy direction, without ever crossing into "gourmand" territory - the more dry woody sense from the papyrus note serve well here to balance the scent out of it. The raw cocoa seed scent also goes through a lot of development during the drydown - from the dusty vegetal smell, through the more powdery stage, through slightly sweeter and oily presence combined with the vanilla creaminess, the vanilla itself being not at all sugary but flowery to almost fruity at times sweetness, influenced by the patchouli - then the cocoa seeds going through a bitter, almost sour stage again towards the deep drydown before settling into the balsamic woody stage in the end. This is a surprisingly complex and multifaceted fragrance that goes through a lot of development during the drydown - not a linear fragrance whatsoever. I would say this is a rare gem that cannot be given justice by merely looking at olfactory note list or the name. This one i could not find in a "transport box" at a discounter, so had to pay for the full presentation, so it was around 90 euro for the 125ml bottle, which is say is still more than ok price for the quality i got here. The quality of the ingredients and thoughtful perfumery was worth every eurocent here. And while i love Oud de Carthage it was quite similar to some of Ropion's other work, and while i absolutely love Ambre de Alexandria and Tonka de Canaima - the parallels with Ambre Narguile and Tonka Imperiale are quite evident - this is not something i can say about Cuir de Venise. This is quite the outstanding creation that i have trouble drafting direct lines of inspiration for. All and all - absolutely bottle worth scent for the fragrance enthusiast. For the mass consumer - don't know, don't care to be honest.

Very woody, spicy and powdery. A warm, cozy and comforting fall fragrance. It’s the type of scent that smells like you would expect to smell reading the notes but not how you would expect to smell reading the name. There’s no leather in Cuir de Venice! What I get the most out of Cuir de Venise are first and foremost the spicy notes: cinnamon and ginger, with a hint of powderiness from cocoa, a mildly sweet vanilla, woody nuances from guaiac wood and cedar, plus a hint of greenness and earthiness from papyrus and patchouli. I do have several patchouli/spicy/powdery focused scents but none smells like this. It’s an unique scent in my collection. It’s not an overly complex scent but it smells refined, smooth, rich and distinctive. It’s also not a fully gourmand scent but it has a strong gourmand aspect with pronounced patchouli in the background. Lasting power and projection is great and it is such a good value, it’s so inexpensive for the quality and longevity of the fragrance. I find this entire collection from Boucheron really underrated and overlooked, these are fantastic fragrances that smell sophisticated and deserves more attention and recognition. Cuir de Venice is really a wonderful fragrance by Boucheron’s luxury line with more exclusive and expensive distribution and packaging. Everything in this line looks elegant and classy, statuesque, heavy glass bottle with heavy white cap, white and gold combo design on bottle and box.

It's an awesome fragrance. I normally dislike very sweet perfumes, but this one is sweet but in the best way. The scent stays very linear to me. It is sweet, with a chocolate-woody background. It is very enjoyable, and it lasts for quite a long time too (6-8 on skin and days on clothes). Overall, it is one of my favorites right now!

Very masculine semi sweet fragrance. It opens almost animalic with an old school touch. Then develope to smooth dry but sweet and somehow dusty if that makes sense to you. The cacao and guaiac wood combo is crazy nice. Long lasting and projection is absolutely great. Very heavy and classy fragrance for a well dressed men. 👌

I'm in love. As previous comment this line from Boucheron is underrated. Projects well, lasts forever on clothes even after wash can still detect it, smells incredible, expensive and classy. Layer this sensuous woody beauty with Feve Tonka de Canaima and you get the sexiest scent. Can't stop sniffing myself.

The smell of butter soft lambskin leather, in a gourmand -yet opulent way. Unisex. Wearing it, I feel like an icon - I am Stevie Nicks. Oh wow. This smells very similar to bronze tonka by Carolina Herrera but not as intense. I don’t think this smells like leather, maybe sweet suede. Nice fragrance but if you own bronze tonka this one might be redundant. Worth a sample

Very woody. It's like warm ambery modern version of Gucci Pour Homme, but without the pepper and with a hint of chocolate. Definitely leans masculine. Borderline gourmand. Performance is great.

Ok, this is a patchouli fragrance. Not cuir. If you hate patchouli, don't buy it. On the other hand, if your a patchouli freak like me, then it's a nice addition to your collection. Why you may ask? Because this will probably be the only office friendly patchouli you'll ever own. It's patchouli, it's dry from the cocoa, soft, slightly spicy from the ginger and cinnamon, and a bit woodsy from the cedar. I always hesitate putting on a heavy patchouli fragrance to go to work because I know there are haters all around me just waiting to start sneezing their heads off the moment I walk in. However, this is a game changer. I'm gonna wear it to work tomorrow and see how much love or hate it gets. I do guarantee it's an office safe patchouli. It's like a patchouli cloud. It's not sweet. It's a dry, dusty cloud.

#1002 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is the third sample I've tried in this collection. I bought a bottle of "Feve Tonka de Canaima" for myself, "Iris De Syracuse" for a girlfriend. I'm usually not that enthralled with cacao scents but here its well balanced with the other notes. There's always something about papyrus that balances a scent and it's a note I've determined I need to put more focus on in my explorations. I like this scent a lot, but I don't love it, and there are several others in this collection I want to try before I buy another bottle. But so far three unique, great quality scents at a fair price. This is car pool, elevator, small office safe. Masculine. Probably not a date scent, but solid business wear.

Smells like dirty leather that has been under the ground. Add to it some cocoa and vanilla. There is a pissy quality to it, but it's somewhat good and interesting

I love this fragrance. It's comforting. I smell the cacao and patchouli. It's woody, and the slightest bit sweet. It's dry but also somehow there's a creamy hint to it. Ever since smelling Patchouli Magnetik from Maison Crivelli I have befome incredibly sensitive to patchouli. That fragrance almost made me throw up. So for me to enjoy the patchouli in this fragrance, says a lot about how inoffensive it is. A while ago I sprayed Eilish no. 2 on my hand and it almost immediately reminded me of Cuir de Venise. However, I have not tested them side by side, so I cannot say of it's a dupe for this. Also, and this may sound strange, but I somehow feel like this could be the male version of Black Opium from YSL. This scent is unisex to me, leaning slightly masculine. I have no issue wearing it as a woman that would never wear an actual masculine smelling fragrance. The scent is longlasting, although I would like it to project more and have better sillage. I feel like it does not radiate too far. However, the last time I wore it, I did overspray it and it got a bit overwhelming at times during the day. So I think it has macerated and gotten stronger!

I guess the french changed the meaning of the word "cuir"...!!!
