Patchouli

EDT. Reminds me a lot of patchouli essential oil you can test at the grocery store, it smells exactly like that. This has a great atomizer and the cap is well fitted. I used about 4 sprays from a brand new bottle, so over time the rest of the liquid will oxidize. I suspect this perfume could become even bigger once I use up some of the juice. But right now it fades for minutes at time and then comes back strong. It's dank, damp, earthy. Pleasant, but faint sweetness. I get some black tea notes out of it, like an old wet tea bag that you've torn open rubbed the leaves between your hands. It's an addictive smell. If you like patchouli, don't second guess yourself like I did for two months. Add it to your collection. It's a 4.2 oz bottle for $38. They also have this in 1 oz EDP for $66, would love to see someone drop their thoughts comparing the two. (I will be using and reviewing the other 4 products I bought from Bourbon French Parfums from now until Christmas '22 and I'll just copy and paste the ones that aren't currently listed on this website yet in those reviews: Vetivert, Doussan*, Minoan*, and the Musk Oil**) *: Currently not on Fragantica at time of this post **: Not on Fragrantica and unsure if the musk oil is a perfume lol Doussan - Bourbon French Parfums (6/10): "A complex fragrance with an Oud base note, complimented with hints of bergamot, vanilla, patchouli, and leather." Gotta be honest there's a lot going on here and something I can't place. Maybe it's the oud or the leather than is "animalic" and a funky sweetness. There's a musty zest of citrus/or is it urine? Vanilla is rounding out all that background noise. Quiet, tangy, amber. This is long lasting and probably more of a cold weather perfume. Musk Oil - Bourbon French Parfums (10/10): I love this. It's hard to describe because it's just a musk... It's slightly peppery, but there is a intimate spicy, soapy, abbreviated sweetness. Maybe like breaking open a warm scone and spreading homemade clotted cream. It's not strong smelling, it's just there. Like resting your head on a lover's lap in the evening as you drift off to sleep. Drowsy, sensual and comforting. Aroused, but too tired. The bottle is small and there's no atomizer. I used my wrist to cover the opening and tipped it. I did this twice. It lasts 8+ hours. I wish I could spray it. 2 sprays would be plenty.

The most intense patchouli I have found. Dark, earthy and not a hint of sweetness. Has the same dank forest soil impression you get when you open a can of a good dark unflavored pipe tobacco. I just doused myself with it as I sit in my office watching a thunderstorm roll in. The smell of rain in early spring and this dark patchouli is going to be just perfect. Though I should point out I'm wearing this alone and at home. Might be a bit much for, say, work. Or most public places in general. The only other fragrance I can compare it too is Santa Maria Novella's Patchouli as they are both just pure one note perfect patchouli fragrances. However, SMN's patch is like a crisp cup of herbal tea to Bourbon French's black espresso. SMN has that dry clean patchouli that smells reminiscent of Off bug spray. It smells like the dry leaves on a forest floor. Bourbon French smells like you dug through the dry leaves to the rich hummus below. Neither smells like anything else. They're both perfect but SMN I wear to the office. This I would not. Probably. Unless I want to punish a coworker. I should mention I love it. There's nothing else like it out there that I've found.

PATCHOULI!! i have gotten used to a really pretty watery, almost flowery expression of patchouli because of how often it gets blended in petrichor perfumes. this however, is a dry woody 99% dark chocolate patchouli, smells almost roasted —but not quite it’s sitting on the edge. it veers into vetiver territory and feels somber and gorgeous before subtly and barely sweetening. it has a bit of an encre noire profile, which i love but is a total fail on my skin. really happy i blind bought this 🩷

Just got it. First impressions: open strong and pungent with the mineralistic smell of rich soil. Not particularly an easy wear for the first 15 minutes or so. Dries down to pure patchouli. If you love patchouli you will love this. I love this. Don’t know about longevity as of this report, but price and projection seem to be solid.

Purest patchouli out there. So dirty and earthy. It’s a very cold and piercing fragrance and I find it smelling almost minty when I wear a lot of it. No notes.

My partner hates patchouli, so I went for the cologne instead of the EDT or perfume concentrations. I figured with so many people saying this is a patchouli beast, the cologne would be wild enough. Not so: Bourbon French's patchouli smells like a civilized and refined dry-woody rendition of the headshop oil. There is a bit of rugged rasp in the first five minutes, but it recedes and allows for a very light and aromatic essence, not unlike the essential oil you'd find at a health food grocery store. This is nice because it's wearable for me, but I was secretly hoping it would be a choke-out monster that would get me in serious trouble, and it really isn't. I recommend the cologne if you're in the market for a one-note patchouli (which may have a very light dollop of Iso E Super in the far drydown to extend that remarkable cedar-like woody finish), but you don't want to smell exactly like an unwashed hippie.

I love an earthy, dirt-like, musty patchouli as much as anyone else (..?), but there's something in the EdT formula that bothers me. It's most prominent in the opening but stays throughout the entire wear, and almost smells like burnt leather, or maybe even something synthetic like rubber/plastic. Is this the 'animalic' quality some people mention? It doesn't read that way to me, it just smells...off. I've tried the EdP version and find that much smoother and more well-blended, still giving extremely raw, natural patchouli but way less screechy. You can't beat the price/sizing of the EdT, but unfortunately it just doesn't work for me.

Whoa, this is some rip-roaring patchouli. Dark, damp and dirty are the only words that adequately describe it. This is raw, balls-out, uncompromising patchouli that takes no prisoners. There is no amber, vanilla or sandalwood added to make it smell wimpy and more appealing for the masses. It's far too potent and ballsy to wear at the office, unless you're the guy in charge. I don't know why this is only listed for men, because a woman could easily wear this. I do not recommend this for a beginner in the fragrance game - this is for patchouli die hards only.

If you’re like me and you were looking for a dark patchouli with all its herbal, dirty funkiness... this is the one. Honestly most times perfumers try to make a patchouli fragrance, I wish it were... just patchouli. This one answered my desire perfectly. It starts with a piquant almost-mint and then dries down to that delicious dirty animalic quality. Less chocolatey than some (Psychedelique) but the chocolate is definitely still there in the background. For those who unapologetically love the “dirty hippie” patchouli.

Smells very similar to Jovoy Psychagelique. Nice fragrance, but Jovoy is definitely my preference. Not 1:1 btw, just similar enough to remind me of if right away.
