Masculin

Back in the day friends brought this back to the UK for me. The following year I asked them to bring me another bottle. It was a long time ago, and I lack both the memory and expertise to adequately describe it, but it had something of the Habit Rouge about it. I was complimented on it, and hence loved it.

Faded into obscurity, Bourjois would subsequently release Masculin 2 and OR Masculin as well, but Masculin was the premiere men’s fragrance for the French house. This bottle has a pressurized atomizer that emits full throttle so that I must go easy on the trigger. The opening is invigorating, effervescent spices: coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger. Lavender also plays an intermittent role here. A carnation then comes through, and no sooner than it appears does this musky sandalwood and smoky vanilla are evident. Masculin, to my nose, is a hybrid of Guerlain Habit Rouge and Hermes Equipage, bit less citrus than the former and more aldehydic like the latter. Carnation plays the role in Masculin as rose does in Habit Rouge, more amplified than in Equipage. However, this isn't merely a blend of the two classics, there's something more to it, that aforementioned smokiness, particularly in its dry down, that sets it apart. It's an arid smokiness, a desert sandiness, woody, musky, and it carries the spiciness into the base. What a treat for the nose and a wonderful wear on the skin. Another one to relish with each propulsive spray.

A true masterpiece from the past🏆 Bourjois must release again masculin! I love this fragrance & I really miss it❤️
