Hinoki Fantôme (2025)

This is surprisingly very good. I like it a lot, very fresh, and it’s refreshing to smell something different: smoky, mossy, and spicy. The initial spray is amazing, then it dries down while keeping its freshness, almost airy and woody. I can also detect something sweet, which might come from the pear. As it dries down more and more, the pear becomes more prominent, and I usually do not love pear at all. Somehow, in this one, it doesn’t bother me since it has more pros than cons. Still, I feel that this perfume without the pear would be a masterpiece. I have not smelled the candle or the old version of this one, but so far this version is very good. I like it a lot, and it has good sillage, airy, smoky, yet calming at the same time. I love it. I have almost 80 perfumes, and this is very different from everything I have smelled.

I love this scent so much, it smells smoky, damp, fresh and forest-y. But I also love it because it reminds me of Scotland, where I grew up. It smells like forests and mountains and cold damp air. Not something I'd reach for in hot weather, but beautiful in autumn and winter. It layers really nicely with deep vanillas, I love it with Queen Caramel by Ellis Brooklyn, Vanilla 28 and Sticky Dates. It is strong though, a couple sprays goes a long way.

i thought i hated it, but i just needed to shake it. when i don't shake it, it's wayyy to smokey and has no complexity. SHAKE BEFORE U SPRAY, PPL!

A refined woody cologne. I would never wear this in the day time as it is a little darker and heavier. Piney, mossy, very earthy in a grounding way.

bought a sample along with the candle because i love hinoki, but the fragrance is much smokier and, idk, heavier? than i expected and not as hinoki forward as i would have liked. it doesn't smell as fresh as some of my other hinoki products, or the candle with the same scent, which is a bummer to me. it's nice though, and i like the sillage and longevity. i don't think it's the scent for me but it's not bad. i would love a lighter hinoki fragrance, i think

This scent is stubborn and a little goes a long way! Smells like a smoking pine tree punched you in the nose. I love an outdoorsy masculine leaning scent and thought BS Woodphoria did it a LOT better. Second time wearing this and I layered it with a vanilla scent and like the creamy depth it created. Wish it was more balanced!

My first scrubber lol (and let me tell you this thang does NOT wanna come off), sampled on my skin and it smelled like weed smoke and dirtiness. Not a hinoki scent to me at all. Honestly it's not soooo bad but definetly not something I want to smell like. If I smelled this on someone I'd just assume they smoke weed and didn't shower after spending the day in like, the London or NY or whatever subway or something. It's like a city/urban kinda dirtiness if that makes sense.

This starts off a beautiful, balanced woody fragrance. Unfortunately the dry down is a very generic cedar. Bordering tan bark. Very dry, smoky, with no nuance. Even the amber is not very present for me. Highly recommend you test on skin & clothes, not just the tester strip, before you buy.

Much waxier and smokier than I expected. No cardamom or pear, and surprisingly little wood. I was not a fan. The candle is better!

They massacred my boy. This new formula is so heavy handed and clumsy. The smoke is dirty and somehow muggy now, the oak moss fights for supremacy, and everyone is sweaty and has mud in their shoes from an unsatisfying hike. I miss the OG BS so much.

This reformulation is a mess. The original is an absolute favorite. This falls so short of something that was so special.

I love hinoki but this smells like rotten sewer syrup, I have never smelt a perfume that I actually hate until now

I put this on last night and this morning it smells EXACTLY like incense (which I love!). But when I first sprayed it, I thought it was too heavy, and manly, and while I love me a masc frag, this was not it. Then an hour later I felt it was far too sweet in a rich/heavy, cloying way, which is honestly how I felt about most of this discovery set (Cowboy Kush, Woodphoria, Vanilla Era). I enjoyed the smokiness! It could be a skin chemistry thing, I smell I little syrupy to begin with. Also getting cinnamon.

My mother’s family comes from a town in Taiwan that is famous for wood carvings made of hinoki and other scented woods. To her this smells like the workshop that was located downstairs from her childhood home, but in an unpleasant, choking industrial waste way. To me this is smells like a random charred log with none of the clean aromatic quality of hinoki wood. Haven’t smelled the original

I used to have the candle a long time ago. I loved it. It was a warm, toasty, almost gourmand woody thing and always wished they'd make a personal scent. I just recently sampled the perfume and there's minimal relation to the candle. Very heavy on the hot tar, motor oil type phenolic notes. Mostly unpleasant to me. Drowns out any sort of nuances.

To me this smells so close to the original. It’s more true to the candle and the room spray. On skin it changes, becomes smokier and more ambery. Not bad. Has this nice sweet quality to it.
