Brioni Eau de Parfum Essentiel

You don't see the Brioni eaux de parfum in any stores where I live, but I was curious enough to obtain samples of three of them now, all but Éclat. So far they all do something interesting compared to similarly priced offerings from other designers, but Essentiel is easily my favorite. Warm spicy seems a tiny bit confusing to list as one of the main accords. It's true that the opening has some cardamom and sweetness to it. But you also immediately get the green tomato leaf and patchouli notes which to me, overall, give it more of a fresh effect. Past the opening, it retains a subtle fresh and clean, almost soapy streak running through it, but the heart is a lush grassy background that can sometimes smell like a meadow after a rain shower, a very natural impression of wet grass and soil. In addition to that, it has a weirdly pleasant nettly quality. I don't know how else to put it but lots of commenters seem to get this impression or mental image of something stinging somehow. Which combined with its green, plant-like aspect makes me think of nettles. On the whole it feels familiar, yet I can't name a single perfume that does all of this quite the same way. Projection and sillage seem to taper off rather quickly, which does help make it feel office safe despite not being your obvious on-trend palatable fragrance. Besides that, it absolutely is long lasting though. I keep getting whiffs of it throughout the day and it lingers on clothes for days. It's a resolute two thumbs up from me, I was hooked right away and made this my first full bottle purchase of any Brioni fragrance.

I'd genuinely never heard of this before walking into the Brioni store. Never seen it on a shelf. Never heard anyone talk about it. It sits at a 3.95 on Fragrantica, which is the kind of rating that makes most people scroll right past it. Don't do that. I got a sample while I was in the store, tried it when I got home, and honestly wasn't expecting much. I was wrong. This thing smells amazing. The opening is soft but you can still feel it there — it's not hiding. There's a green quality to it that reminds me of the Terre d'Hermès line, which if you know me, you know I'm into. And somewhere in there is this sweet note that I read comes from tomato of all things. Shouldn't work. Does work. It just adds something a little different without going weird or sweet in an annoying way. Longevity runs about six hours, sillage is moderate — it's not going to fill a room but it's not disappearing on you either. Wears well across pretty much any occasion or season. The fact that nobody is talking about this is baffling to me. But I guess that's what makes it a sleeper. If you come across it, give it a shot.

Excellent juice. Not for everyone as it has a more classical nuance about it but, not dated in the least. Think the OG Polo by RL but, modernized for today's tastes. Slightly green and almost pine like with the Grapefruit & Cardamom to start it off. There is no Leather or Moss like type soapiness from Polo but, rather an amber with an earthy Patchouli with Incense while still kissed with a slight sweetness from the Cardamom that stays with the fragrance from start to finish. Great for anytime wear for professional or casual events with a direct lineage to masculine vibes. Imagine Polo Green in the 21st century. That's it with respectable performance. A fantastic modern yet retro like creation from Brioni. World class, period.

I'm in love with Brioni Essentiel. I find the Cardamon and Tomato Leaf play the biggest roles, with the tonka, patchouli and frankincense next. I was surprised how long it lasts for being all natural origin, but of course they've picked ingredients that natural last a long time. It's not beast-mode sillage and I'm OK with that. It creates a nice scent bubble. I find the all natural scent refreshing to the nose and the soul while the fine ingredients used are very addicting, masculine and attractive. I think every guy should give this a try - you might be surprised how much you like it and it's probably been a long time since you've smelled only natural-origin ingredients in a perfume - if ever.

I totally get Penhaligon's Tragedy of Lord George here, with a more accentuated lemony (bergamotte) top-note, and a little less powdery / aftershave-ish vibe then the Lord, so it's more citrus-green in a sense, but the picture, feel, and vibe is totally Lord George. In the best way possible, it smells awesome and mouth-watering! If you're into lemony, green, sweet scents with a slightly (high-class) after-shave vibe, it's a total no-brainer, get it!

The target market for Brioni Essentiel is clearly for proffesionals, businessmen, gentlemen in general, who don't like loud and challenging type of scent. Coming from upscale quiet luxury Fashion house, this is a great representative of the brand. High quality masculine fragrance that exudes elegance, high class, humbleness, genuine courtesy. Michel Almairac is insanely talented perfumer and genius humanbeing. Brioni owes him much.

As it is said "essential", which means the most versatile from the Brioni line. Very fresh, green and dress up scent. It's very easy to wear and easy to like, very tasty modern yet has traditional quality. Blind buy worthy if you like fresh herbal green and MA-TURE scents. Definitely higher quality than italian designers like Prada or Armani. Magnetic cap too ! Lalique cooked when they made those Brioni perfumes 9/10

Upscale spicy , masculine ,mature, and a head turner. I have almost 75 bottles and Im blown away it has taken this long for me to discover the beauty that is the entire Brioni line . I have smelled the entire line mulitple times at the same time and they truly are ALL amazing .

The green machine. Hyper masculine, classic aromatic feel with the mossy, earthy, woody accords forming a refined profile. There's a good amount of spice in the opening as well. Versatile for all seasons, but probably best in spring and fall.

Patchouli forward leaning. Modern take on a classic style of fragrance. Very alpha, masculine and mature. I’d be surprised if it appeals to anyone under the age of 50.

A really good masculine signature fresh scent. Great for all occasions type fragrance.

Blind buy, received earlier today. From the time I sprayed it I was certain I'd smelled it before. After an hour or so it hit me: This Is Not A Blue Bottle 1.1 Seems like a bizarre comparison based on the reviews and the notes listed, but I dug out the sample I have, sprayed them both on paper, and the similarity was there immediately. Essentiel is sweeter and greener, but as it dries down it becomes more and more like Not A Blue Bottle, perhaps 80% similar. At 30 min, IMO, it's closer to TINABB than Moustache is to YSL Tuxedo, and those are nearly indiscernible. Performance feels about the same, and I prefer Essentiel. (I never purchased Not A Blue Bottle because I always found something about it slightly off-putting, and Essentiel doesn't have that, plus it has the nicer, greener opening. I don't care for the opening of TINABB at all.) UPDATE: 11/9/25 After getting a decant of TINABB I've realized the similarity isn't as extreme as I'd thought. I would still put them around 60-70% alike, but there are differences, with Essentiel being more earthy and green, more *normal*, more reasonable. I've come to appreciate the avant garde, evolved and synthetic nature of TINABB more than I did. The tonka, patchouli, and ambroxan notes/phases are mostly identical between TINABB and Essentiel. The rest is different. Performance is about the same.

I disagree with the review below; the tomato leaf is only slightly noticeable in the opening. The overall profile of this scent is earthy/dusty(in a good way), and woody. I don't detect any olibanum; there's nothing smokey here. This scent is for patchouli lovers, as it's the biggest player here. It's a dusty, chocolate-y patchouli mixed with some sandalwood(not creamy or sweet.) I also detect cedar in the dry down, but maybe it's the combination of elements. The scent has minimal sweetness, just enough to contrast the earthy patchouli. I wore it both on skin and clothes, and I find the development much better on skin. On clothes, the cardamom is stronger, and hints into many designer offerings I smelled before. No ambergris detected. Performance wise, I will say it's a shy one; not much projection, and did not last that long neither on skin; better on clothes. I think it's OK; at least it's not yet another Ambroxan b*mb or sickening sweet.

Brioni Essentiel is yet another (3rd I've tested so far) that comes across as a classy and distinguished masculine fragrance. The OG has a really nice violet note, Intense is fruity with an underpinning of oud while Essentiel is more woody with a strong, musky patchouli and a smooth incense base. I did not detect any tomato note. To me, it's pretty versatile - working in formal occasions and also during leisure time. Performance of Essentiel is the best of the three I've tried. Sillage is about arms length for a good 2 to 3 hours while the longevity was about 9 hours for me, at which point is was a very mild skin scent. Overall though, Essentiel gives a moderate impression - not overpowering or dominating a room. Would work in close quarters and in the office. While it's nice, like it's two other brothers, it's a bit tame for me.

One of the most unique fragrances that I own, and is probably the least talked about in the line. The tomato leaf really gives it character, and no it doesn't smell like the tomato fruit, it's the green leaf part. Green profile in fact is what gives the fragrance it's profile, but it's not citrus green or woody green, it's like a mossy green. It's more of a intimate scent bubble rather than a projector, so if you are looking for a room filler this isn't the one. It reminds me of the type of fragrance you would see in the 90's but modernized. Very nice, the only reason it's not a love for me is I wish the projection and longevity were a little better. I get around 4-5 with moderate projection for the first hour, before it becomes more of a scent scent.

It’s the kind of fragrance you get to use in your office and it stays there collecting dust and gets used on rare occasions or urgent situations that require a good opening And in this it excels being the safe And kind scent never annoying anyone just helping to help when needed The opening is marvelous and the mid is very good as well but the fragrance is tame in its nature which is not very favorable to my taste I sprayed maybe 40 sprays and the performance was moderately I don’t think I need this fragrance which means I won’t be using it a lot in the future

Have it on my wrist right now, it's been about an hour since I left the department store. It smells very nice. Definitely bergamot forward with green patchouli undertones and a nice resinous base from the frankincense. Not the highest sillage or performance, but I could see myself wearing this. Not too powerful, not too sweet, nice and mellow and a gorgeous fragrance. I don't think I would pay full retail prices for it. Pick it up on a discount if possible.

If you like Vilhelm Morning Chess but want a cheaper alternative then give this one a try. It's got the same juicy citrus and green notes in the opening and a LOT of patchouli in the drydown, and the cardamom peeks in once in a while to give it a little bit of a kick. It's definitely more of a subtle fragrance but I could see it drawing compliments by those close enough to smell it. Does NOT smell like Aventus.

This is unique and I never tried anything like it. It's green, herbal, just a touch of sweet and spicy. This is best for the warmer weather and not a projection beast. This is a good choice for anyone that is sick and tired of these modern sweet or fresh scents and looking for something different.

This one's great. It smells like a sophisticated, aromatic fragrance that I like. This is great if you're looking for a classy fragrance that won't break the bank. this can also be an office scent. 7.1/10

So I've been interested in the brioni line for a few months and finally bought 3 bottles to test ( figured given the brand and lalique fabricating them they can't be bad ) but I ended up giving them away since in the end they didn't meet the expectations I had crafted, but to better aid others, here is this scent ( essentiel ) as best as I could describe it in simple terms. Its rosin, pine and a citrus oil mixed together. To me at least I immediately got reminded of the toolbox go to: wd40 , for at least the first 20 minutes, Then the gear oilish smell fades and rosin and pine comes forward maybe with a bit of a citrus orange oil smell as well . Projects for 30minutes then becomes a skin scent up to 2-3 hours , same goes for the rest of the Brioni line . I haven't tried their previous discontinued lemon citrus scent but I do feel like that may have been more suitable for a brioni attire than this lineup ( which I have and had hoped to compliment with these fragrances ) . This and Intense are the more heavier in the lineup, intense had a bit more projection, but only a tiny bit more. Intense and Essentiel ( Green bottle ) were the closest as far as similar scents go, intense ( black bottle ) was again heavy but even more sweet. The original violet fragrance ( blue bottle ) fades rapidly . It's fine , especially if compared to fragrances by Boss or Louis Vuitton , way better than those and definitely not copies of any other famous fragrances , bottles are really nice I must add with their magnetic tops and styling but I'm still on the lookout for classy scent that retains the charm of the famed works released pre IFRA silly bans .

In search of tomato leaf. Very pleasing but rather generic. Nice and depending upon cost could be an easy gift for a man who likes traditional fragrances. Nothing new. Moderate longevity and projection. Very safe.

This frag. for patchouli lovers, smelling fresh, green and earty. Opening excellent , very unique scent, I want to emphasize that it’s not smelling like other fragrance all naturel,longevity 4-6 hours, sillage arm length not so strong, Can wear spring summer who likes green and patchouli can buy it. Don’t blind buy

#1278 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Notewise this scent should bear no resemblance to two Brasilian scents in my collection, but the opening does remind me of Natura "Homen Elo" and O Boticario "Zaad Venture." But that is where it ends, because after the bergamot fades, which it does in mere minutes, the tomato note is like you left the bowl you had tomato bisque in last night sitting unwashed in the sink. It's not enough to scream "Papa John's", like Demeter's "Pizza" but it does ruin what started out as a nice bright freshie in less than ten minutes. Let's face it: tomato hasn't exactly been a feature of any popular scent, so I don't know why anyone would use it. The tomato fades out in a couple of hours, but what's left is not worth the wait. This was disappointing after Eclat. I should have gone for the Brioni EDP Intense instead.

Boring, poor sillage and longevity. Disappointing

This fragrance comes across simultaneously vegetal and fruity in the initial burst. I guess that is ironic considering tomatoes are biologically fruits but culturally vegetables, but this doesn’t smell like tomatoes at all to me. More like bell peppers, celery, kiwis, lemons, and apples all mashed into a sweet and sour bowl. The whole thing is juicy green but that doesn’t last longer than a few minutes. The middle drydown is more plant-like. To me this is not a very herbal fragrance because herbs feel pungent, culinary, fresh spicy, and more aromatic. I think Essentiel smells more like dewy grass which is light green, crisp, and just a little earthy. It is an easygoing green, yet still carries some maturity. The ultimate finish to the fragrance is like a smooth shower gel modern blue-ish fragrance. This surprised me but I am welcome to it, I thought it smelled pretty nice. I’m not going to say it is the most natural fragrance with nothing but french essential oils, but I think it is nicely evocative and at a great price. 8.2/10

Essentiel is unique and a good scent for cooler weather. It has a curiously busy opening with a smooth, much more appealing dry down. Off the sprayer, the bergamot seems to be battling everything - a tart clash of bergamot with other note in the top. Its in the dry down where I appreciate this scent most - the drydown reminds me of Secret Mission by Baldessarini. Note wise, I can see how these two fragrances resemble each other. Despite Brionjs being so great imo, this one is a bit Jeckyl&Hyde to me - id recommend trying this before you buy. Its a like, not a love though.

Oh damn, this is boring. After the nice original EDP and Intense, I expected this to be even nicer considering that some people really hyped this up. In the end, I expected more from it. It is nice and I think even more versatile than all of the Man EDP line. I just expected it to be more unique.

who loves ''ORAGE'' by Louis Vuitton but can't use it in Summer please buy this one it has the signature of ''ORAGE'' with a hint of ''Hacivat'' beautiful mix in a classic way, Regarding longevity, it's fair enough to get 4-5 hours and then you need to spray again to get a new energy. 8/10

This is a weird and unusual scent, I've been told that it suits me with its fresh but musky notes. Not a blind buy and sometimes the weedy (maybe tomato if we look at the notes based on this page) notes makes itself apparent a bit too much

This is one of those fragrances that enhances what ur already wearing. It’s not a statement scent, more like ur good smelling sidekick. The tomato kicks in later but it’s more in the background. What i get is light cardamom and tonka

This one is an acceptable fragrance with a pleasant, and office-safe scent. The top note is bergamot on a creamy sandalwood with powdery and spicy touches. I also get some sweet gourmand feeling in the base! 6.5/10

In between of hacivat and loewe 7 cobalt , but closer to hacivat, i have them both , btw the scent is perfectly blended , and worth buying 100% , it really distinguished. Love it and going to buy it .

A designer clone of Nishane Hacivat. The creamy citruses at opening, than pineapples and earthy, though mass appeal patchouli at the base. The longevity is worse than of Hacivat.

i got high hopes for this. patchouli, tomato, olibanum, ambergris - potential green bomb? finally a fragrance not causing diabetes? in 2023? it's mr. almairac, so it could be.

Facts guy missed on this one. It doesn’t smell like tomato at all smells beautiful. Reminds me of mind games blockade with that tomato leaf. Fresh and sophisticated

@Fragaddict123 Just a second - did you say you applied 40 sprays (4ml) in a single sitting? Or you mean in total before coming to write a review?

This is a bitter and quite tart freshie. Uplifting in a way, I'd be really curious to see how it translates in colder weather actually.
