Black Fleece

This was one of two blind buys following suggestions in response to my request for unisex cheapie recommendations - What a lovely surprise! I really like this one, definitely niche quality! When I reread the comments after I placed my order all I saw was ‘Tea’ which made me a bit nervous as it’s just an okay note for me. Luckily it doesn’t smell of tea. It just gives it a green touch without being grassy, it makes it fresh without being cold if that makes sense. BF smells classy and unique, at the same time it’s really easy to wear. How come I’ve never heard of it when it was launched 10 years ago!?! An overdue addition to my collection, thank you joliecat for the recommendation!!

I think this is one of the most overlooked fragrances. The box is a guide to niche perfumes how to make the great packages. The bottle floats on the layers of the fleece and covered with the sewn piece of fleece of different colour with the logo of the brand. The white porcelain bottle is of unusual shape, still very classic. The fragrance, OMG, 100% unisex, very wearable Timubktu by LAP. Can not believe that very few people are aware of this perfume.

Brooks Brothers you have done well with your perfumes. The bottle is lovely and strong and stout. The juice within is nice and has a pleasant aroma but it's somewhat of a fader. Not a power perfume however it still is beautiful and worth owning. I get a spice note here not overly floral. I think it's a safe blind buy. I do prefer and love Madison by BB.. you cannot beat that one.

I just received a free sample of this, with a bottle of Theo Fennell. Threw the Theo Fennell out of the window, had my wrist surgically removed to get rid of the stench, and immediately bought a bottle of this instead. Black Fleece is a thing of absolute beauty.

It's gorgeous!!! It's divine!!! I love it!! Beautiful florals, with wonderful patchouli, incense and amber! Lasts for ages, is lovely and strong.......and the bottle is fantastic!!!

I’ve blasted myself with this cheap ‘n’ cheerful fragrance as it was recommended to me as having niche quality. The heavy white bottle is pleasing (although I’m not sure about the dead sheep logo). Immediately I realise that this is going to be a very wearable, unisex and herbaceous scent. It’s green and spicy and reminds me of Amouage ‘Sunshine Man’ which makes me think this should have clary sage, cedar, immortalle and juniper berries but apparently there are none. This is a sparkling, cool, gin ‘n’ tonic type of scent that screams juniper and lots of spicy woods. Another similarity I found took me a moment to pinpoint - the notes were somehow reminding me of Isabey’s ‘L'ambre de Carthage’ since both share the same bergamot, jasmine, amber, patchouli and sandalwood combo. It shares the same enveloping, comforting calmness. Don’t be scared by the oud, incense nor tobacco, as none of these are obvious - this fragrance certainly doesn’t shout nor smoke, the oud just gives a slight medicinal freshness. On me, it’s a unisex, spicy, fresh, juniper, sparkling gin ‘n’ tonic, woody, herbaceous and aromatic beauty that I keep spraying (I’m sure I’ve overdone it) but I can’t get enough. To describe it roughly, it’s herbaceous and perky ‘Sunshine Man’ in the top, layered with the comforting base of ‘L’ambre de Carthage’. Now if those two blended together aren’t winners then I don’t know what you’re expecting for the affordable cost. Maybe this is a more refined, peppery and Mediterranean herb version of ‘Encre Noire’? This is going to grow and grow on me. Can’t wait to test it out on my boyfriend as it’s the type of wearable, fresh and breezy scent we could both share on a holiday. The herbs are very Mediterranean countryside. Love it. Edit: it sadly doesn’t last. I had thought I’d doused myself in way too much, but after half an hour my mum came to visit and didn’t notice any scent. What a shame. Poor longevity is my deal-breaker.

I picked this up for $20 for a 4.2 oz bottle at TJ Maxx thinking it was a men's cologne (it was in the men's section) I wore this a few times before I found out it is marketed to women. Maybe this influenced my opinion, but this is completely unisex. First off, its soft without being soapy, powdery or too flowery. Its def has a sweeter slightly floral vibe, but there is a bitter note that contrasts everything else. This is mostly oud, wood, tobacco and patchouli. Not sure what Holly is, but maybe that is what gives this that distinctive bitter counter note. Flowers are more in the background but can always be detected even in the dry down. Again this very soft and well blended, with mild projection and longevity. Smells expensive and sophisticated and very versatile. More day than night and more dressy than informal (think Jil Sander Bath and Beauty EDT or Clinique Aromatics in White). Wasn't too surprised this retails for over $150. Overall a really nice one.

Signing in to join the choir of praise for this beauty!! This was a blind buy that was in no way a safe one for me, as it differs a bit from what I usually go for. But I am so glad I took the plunge, it is BEAUTIFUL! What I love the most is how incredibly easy it is to wear. The notes are blended so well, nothing annoying or cloying, it is so perfectly balanced that it seems like it will suit any occasion or temperature. The opening blast is a bit sharp and perfumy, but that only lasts a minute or two. I don't get any sourness. There is quite a lot of Holly (mate/green tea) that could potentially make this a bitter scent, but that is not my experience. I only find the holly (which is new to me) to create something very unique and lovely. I wish it could be a bit more potent, but the moderate sillage is probably the most aopropriate for this type of scent. And it is nice how it is never overpowering for the wearer A 10 out of 10 from me!

The reaction to this scent is very mixed. It is an interesting scent and I like it. The overall impression is of green tea on me. The citrus note was brief and I can't really pick out the incense, tobacco, poppy or amber. For some curious reason it makes me think of Japan and the tea ceremony. A dry, slightly sweet, slightly astringent green tea. Maybe it's the Holly that I can smell. Who knows! I think it's an easy to wear, casual wear scent and almost unisex.

I blind bought this based on the positive reviews and I have to disagree with much of what has been said. All I get is the most awful sour smell . It is impossible to distinguish a lot of the notes listed and at no stage does the sourness burn off to be replaced by a less unpleasant note. Something appears to be dominating everything else to my nose but not in a good way. I am usually a fan of more spicy or masculine scents so I found my reaction to this surprising. I wondered if maybe the perfume was compromised in some way as my bottle had leaked slightly on arrival? On the plus side if you intended to gift this one the packaging is gorgeous and the bottle is a very heavy white ceramic type so sadly while I appreciate the asethic the juice inside is not for me. ☹️

After acquiring this I instantly got rid of it. On me, a chemical nightmare. I think maybe full of ambroxan, this amped up to high sheep-heaven and it’s all I could smell. I really had high hopes but it’s not great. It’s in the vein of White Soul by Lapidus, but eclipsed by a bucket of ambroxan (at least what I’m assuming is).

Was at Marshalls this morning, and stumbled across this scent. $19.99 4.2 oz...hmmmm....I had read reviews on it here...and was interested for sure. First of all...nice packaging...minimalistic...going into niche territory on the packaging...Nice. Secondly, the bottle weighs a TON! You can put a window out if thrown at it...lol. It has a nice box-within-a box...and a weird grey flannel like fabric piece that is on top...the bottle is nestled in under that fabric. Simple, chaukly/pearly whitebottle and box...the that heavy grey fabric...yin and yang. The bottle/packaging does not portray what your going to be smelling....maybe the grey wooly masculine fabric is the hint here...??? Cut to the chase....I am LOVING this concoction !!! Yes, it is masculine/unisex...niche vibe for sure. One of the top notes is holly....not sure what that is supposed to smell like..??... but I DO get the saffron/guaic wood/sandalwood, with the insense laying under it...and LIGHT OUD...not barnyardy/skanky...at all... I think the neroli/jasmin/mandarin "brightens" things up a little..without being pronounced flora/fruity on top. and the woods add depth and balance.BTW..the beginning was surely "smokey-ish" but that died down a little.As for the holly and red poppy...who knows??...where they fit in to my nose...amber/patchouli are there to...but..not the usual effect of amber/patch, again, to my nose, IMO. This is one of my best blind buys recently. Also, I might add, to my nose, this is not an over-powerful scent that one would expect based on the notes. WOW !! I am liking this alot, but may not be for everyone.I find it "different" from most of the scents I have tried lately. I am tempted to find a back-up bottle...it is discontinued...(surprise !)....and I see the prices on eBay going UP !! I am so curious to try the men's version too !!! EDIT: Final thoughts....AHHHH.....MAZING !!!! I will gladly pay the higher price on-line, if I cannot find a back-up or 2 at Marshalls/Tj Maxx !!!! 10/10 IMHO

Agree with Emma on the creepiness of the dead sheep logo! Not sure this is quite niche mark to me, but it's pleasant. Very freshie / herbie masculine. Big bergamot, but not the niche kind more the cheapie kind. I'll be honest, this smells quite cheap to me, but in a good way. Like a nice freshie cheapie you can wear to the gym if you are a man below a certain age. Much herbalness in the neroli, other notes quite blended. Up for swap if anyone is interested! UK only.

Just got it today and tried it after bath. This is absolutely divine! I can smell the citrus in it, but the main notes are definitely incense, amber, and patchouli, which are my favorite notes ever. This is so elegant and it smells expensive, rich, and sophisticated; very warm and seductive. It's not suitable for my age yet, but I'll treasure it until I get into my mid 20s. btw, as a Chinese I am very impressed by the bottle. It's just Gorgeous!
