Classic Cologne

RL's Safari shares, imho, too many notes in common with Classic Cologne. And these two share some points with Chanel Egöiste Platinum, Paco Rabanne XS and Burberries. After smelling these I wonder there was a template dating from the 1990s - zesty opening with aromatic and woody notes and some ozonic whiffs. All these smell quite formal when compared to present day ones in which gourmand notes abound. Some identify the formality described with barbershop scents, I assume because they "smell manly", i.e. identified with manly activities, namely going to a barbershop. However, these classics from the 1990s differ from scents like Pinaud's Clubman, Canoe or Old Spice. So I am left wondering why these are described as "barbershoppy": I believe it is a synonim for "formaly manly". In that sense, yes, they are all quite formal scents that I cannot imagine being worn by teenagers in suitpants.

Brooks Brothers classic is a lighter version of Ralph Lauren Safari. The fragrances have many similarities, but I find BB Classic Cologne to be less spicy and overall, an easier wearing experience during the warmer months. Safari, as I recall it, was spicier, with the cinnamon and pepper being more pronounced. Fun fact this Brooks Brothers Cologne is actually an EDT concentration. Performance is acceptable but not great 5/6 hours max of projection then it sits closer to skin after that. Overall, It's a love for me.

Super Classy scent... This could easily be a signature sent for the right person. I love it! Just wish it lasted a bit longer...

Completely agree with the user below me. Very classic, classy, masculine fragrance. Makes you feel like a man. Love it.

Someone gave me a couple of bottles of Brooks Brothers fragrances, and looks like this one is discontinued too. I should’ve probably checked before I used almost all of it. The opening of this one is a bright, citrus mix that is paired with a certain warmness of the more herbal notes. This sort of reminded me of Detaille’s Aeroplane, something that seems a bit aged, mature and classic. A slightly, gradual ‘greening’ of this citrus blend occurs shortly after applying. A bit drier, herbaceous center seals the heart of the this fragrance, touched by some sweetness from the note of jasmine. This will prepare the way for the warmer vetiver and patchouli base notes and this really rounds off the fragrance well. Not something I would probably buy, but I do like this one. I personally always associated this with someone much older than myself just due to life experience, but I’d still recommend giving this a try.

A classy easily wearable scent. There is a certain formality to it that makes most appropriate for the office, but easily dressed up...if not down. I agree with Matux that BB Classic has similarities with Egoiste Platinum and Safari, but it is more that they share the same vibe rather than they smell similar. Does not smell dated however. good sillage and longevity for me. A solid scent all around.

Found a bottle of this at TJ Maxx for $16 and blind bought based on reviews. I can attest that the similarities to Safari are there, especially in the opening. The main difference I note is in the dry down. Where Safari has notes of cinnamon and leather, Classic stays more in the floralcitrus fougere realm, relying on Sandalwood to ground the scent. If you enjoy Safari, this is a very safe blind buy.
