Eau Triple Iris de Malte

The Officine Universelle Buly's Iris de Malte has a scent reminiscent of steam, and replaced the Lichen d'Ecosse as their signature fragrance. This is undeniably a Korean favorite, inspired by and previously named, 'The Valpinçon Bather'. Although the Louvre collection in which this fragrance was part of was discontinued after the brand and the museum's contract ended, they brought back a few of the popular scents under different names, with Iris de Malte being one of them. Buly seems to focus on East Asian markets, particularly Korea and Japan as their shops are concentrated in those two countries. Its fragrances are known (or rather, infamous) for their ephemerality and subtle projection, which I guess is something that resonates with their target audience. I am personally satisfied with both the longevity and the projection of their fragrances. Also try out their new French Garden Collection (Les Jardins Français) if you can, which features scents derived from fruits and vegetables. Interestingly, the flora used to create the individual fragrances seems to have come from various countries outside of France. I guess the French collected a lot more than the artifacts in the Louvre and planted them in their gardens.

i have the body oil version of this and it's delightful. the iris note stands out but is well-supported by slightly muted citrus notes i later found out were lemongrass and orange. if i had to represent this scent visually i would depict a sprawling iris field with a small wooden bridge over a stream. it's not a particularly aquatic scent but theres a sense of aquatic tranquility rather than something vegetal in the blend of the iris with the other notes. otherwise i would say the scent reminds me of a monet painting, specifically it reminds me of the colour schemes of his water lilies paintings.

This perfume is the most perfect thing I've ever smelled in my life but that joy lasts only a few seconds. But then again, I'd say the best emotions in life last only a few seconds, so I bought it. An absolute triumph of clean, powder-soft textures, though its water-based, alcohol-free formulation means it evaporates almost immediately on bare skin. While its fleeting nature is a pity, it becomes a great ritual when layered over a clean white musk layer. This combination grounds the delicate iris, keeping the fragrance alive much longer.

I'm a sucker for iris but don't have AND have never smelled anything like this. Visually it smells like being cuddly and wrapped up in gauze baby swaddle indoors, and outside a downpour has just ended and you can smell a glimpse of the moist earth. It's the moist earth part that grounds the florals from being too sweet or one-dimensional, but it's never dirty. For this reason i love to wear this on rainy days or to sleep.

Iris de Malte is a very pleasant iris fragrance. It's definitely got features of iris perfumes I've smelled before: creamy, powdery, clean, floral, soapy, calming, a little makeup-y. But it has lovely nuances. It's softly citrus-y in the opening. It's a little bit green. It's not aquatic per se, but I think a lot of these Buly fragrances have a soft, watercolor effect to them. In the base it's iris and earthy patchouli. It's also not very sweet at all - which I like! Very nice!
