Eau Triple Makassar

Powdery iris and amber, tempered with lots of cedar and dashes of resins, incense, and sweet tobacco combine to conjure for me not the grand jungles of Indonesia or visions of historic Makassar port bazaars and merchant ships as the name may suggest, but rather something more composed and pared down. If being poetic, it is not the bazaar itself but instead a wooden treasure chest brought from it, full of beautiful light-colored silks wafting gently of perfume or spices. You just want to dive in, or drape it all across your arm and press it into your cheek. Neither too smokey, nor heady with white florals or vanilla, which often veers ambers into sticky territory, this is a rather dry, balanced amber overall, and an opalescent oriental blend. The effect is rather plush, sweet and surprisingly genteel, and entirely approachable. One note - the current English description of Massakar on their website Buly paints Massakar as featuring - if not being lovingly based around iris, a note not technically noted here at all. If this is a new approach to the scent, restructuring or reformulation otherwise I'm not sure, but regardless, if noted or not I do agree: iris, even if it's an impressionistic one via other notes, is suggestable here from the scent's cushy, earthy, and woody powderines. If you enjoy such types of iris versus a super rooty or cold, carrot-y metallic and lipstick-y one, this is a refreshing take to seek out and one very fun and comforting to apply. Since Buly has also released two additional separate "Amber" and "Iris" scents since Massakar, I am curious as to the approaches for each in relation to Massakar, which handles both note genres rather deftly in one.

Eau Triple Makassar. The notes from the brand are rather poetic (sailing anyone?) but this is actually an exceptionally well delivered amber perfume with beautiful resins, a hint of tobacco absolute and some really nice aromatics which dry the amber so that it doesn’t become a vanilla-fest. This is sweet but restrained. Elegant. Suitable for anyone who likes oriental compositions. Would totally buy!! Also a great performer.

Whenever there's sand as a note, all I can think is hectorite or something similar. That's an ingredient in dry shampoos & foot sprays. Why anyone would pay a premium for that is beyond me. Here's a trick: spray clear foot spray on your clothes if you live in a humid geosmin environment and let hang overnight or a few hours, follow with your usual perfume in the morning. Trust me your perfume won't be gulped up by the heat & dust as easily. Also saves you the premium.

This is a nice soapy amber fragrance.. This amber though I am not sure about if I will like it or not. It smells like amber I have smelt before but not the type I usually like. I probably need to spend some time with it to know if it’s my cuppa tea
