Patate Douce des Caraïbes et Carotte d'Afghanistan

I adore this perfume and its house, but they’re very unique: All the Les Jardins Français collection perfumes (LJF; green bottles) are matchable to your natural scent; they are earthy and heart-note heavy, seemingly comprised entirely of expertly macerated garden herbs and vegetables. Most LJF are milky white liquids (I transferred a few to pocket atomisers), but won’t stain fabric at all. The Designer Buly 1803 collection (white bottles) is where you’ll find amber, floral, fresh and woody perfumes. Every LJF will smell nice (to your preference) on paper. On skin, one will blend into your natural scent perfectly, making you smell delicious rather than perfumed. This is mine. The Afghan carrot extracts are the star here. Their scent is fresh, exactly like a washed carrot; strong, effectively the top note, but stays prominent for ages. The Caribbean sweet potato extracts blend the carrot scent with my natural scent. Their scent gives the perfume its earthiness. A savoury sweetness emerges in the dry down; mild, basically the heart note, and hard to single out. The vetiver extract creates natural accords with both vegetable scents, subduing what would other wise be a sharp carrot scent, sweetening and adding freshness to what would otherwise be a food-like tuber scent; subtle, the classic grassy/hay base note, but from a more earthy extract variant rather than a smoky one. This perfume works like a dream on me, especially on hot days, because my natural scent (strong in underarms, subtle on skin overall) evokes ginger, soy and a slight, warm nuttiness. A hayish blend of carrot and sweet potato changes that into a really desirable scent, as if I’m not wearing a perfume at all. Out of dozens of perfumes, this is the first I’ve ever worn day-to-day that gets constant complements and sniffers lingering for ages! I’ll probably make this my signature. However, this the only perfume in this house’s catalogue I find remotely wearable, despite liking nearly all of them. For reference, I love “Groseille de Scandinavie et Tomate du Pérou Buly 1803” more than this for its gorgeous tomato scent on paper, but it smells too food-like and out of place on me. (If you think your natural scent complements a rich tomato, please give that a try!) Definitely not a blind buy, unless my natural scent is a close match to yours (twin!). I recommend getting a tester set from Buly or trying every single LJF on your skin in-store if you have a place that stocks testers, viz. Mecca, local perfume shops, etc.

A lovely, soft, vegetal scent that reads more as a natural musk than anything else. Kind of like steamed carrot and sweet potato steam... Yes, soft and steam-like, warm, slightly sweet, humid. This scent makes me think of Miss Honey's gentle voice in Matilda, her quiet and kind self wrapped up in her cozy cottage-home by the woods. The lasting power is terrible for the price, though, so regretfully I did not purchase a bottle of it at the counter, though I would have loved to and may request it as a gift from my partner in the future (if he loved me he would, lol!).

I FINALLY got my hands on this fragrance and wow! On my skin, its extremely powdery and naturally sweet, with soft spices and slightly woody vetiver in the background. It's as if you opened a bag of Terra sweet potato chips and just took a huge huff. From the bottle, it smells just a little bit more aromatic, green (carrot-y?) and earthy. Patate Douce et Carotte is definitely not gourmand, its perfectly unisex and soooo cozy. Cottage core vibes lol. (I'm describing the perfume oil btw, idk how the spray perfume performs)

To me, this smells exactly like Thanksgiving yams. Slightly sweet and undeniably green and earthy. A very approachable, nostalgic, autumnal scent.

The brand really achieved something unique here - starchy, sweet, rooty vegetables. Very wearable though I prefer the oil.

Oh wow, root vegetables but make it perfume~ Surprisingly more wearable than I expected, like straight out of Peter Rabbit but without the dirt.

From first spray, this is 100% photorealistic root vegetable. It smells like cooked carrots and raw sweet potato + the skin of a squash + soil. There's a dichotomy between a steamed, cooked, mushy, slightly lactonic, starchy vegetable smell and a crisp, watery, green, earthy, fresh vegetable smell. There is a nutty vetiver backbone that is apparent from pretty much the start. It smells very much like food but this is the furthest you can get from a gourmand. It's more like a... vegetable musk. It seems like it shouldn't work as a perfume but it really does! It smells of a cozy, warm, rustic dinner cooked for you by someone who knows you need a good square meal. It's very comforting. Patate Douce des Caraïbes et Carotte d'Afghanistan - fantastic name. This one was a limited edition and is to be discontinued "by the end of 2026."

Put this on whenever I'm near places that stock it. My absolute favourite. Unfortunately, I can't justify the price when it's water based!
