Antique Oak

Smelling ATO from the atomizer was a jarring experience for me. It smelled of dry, bitter, slightly rotten wood and old leather car seats. However, on skin it blossomed into a gorgeous masculine dark woody fragrance. A smooth dark wood and leather accentuated with a subtle almost muted syrupy sappy sweetness. It’s not sexy or alluring nor is it overly aggressive or mature. It’s a scent of pure class and masculine sophistication. For a stylish gentleman who doesn’t look for or need any attention but gets it everywhere he goes. He’s not trying to impress anyone but is still quite impressive. For the guy who won’t sweep you off you feet with grand gestures of romance and passion but the guy who remembers little things about you and tends to his woman in practical consistent ways. This fragrance smells like a great husband and father figure. Women of a certain pedigree will love and appreciate this fragrance. Definitely not blind buy worthy but if you’re a guy the fits the bill of the aforementioned, you’re going to need this in your collection. This is a fragrance of true personal expression, not the mass appeal mass produced copy and paste fragrances they’re pushing on us these days.

#1023 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I really don't get Jomashop selling this as a "ladies" scent. As a woody leather it's definitely more masculine than unisex. Just yesterday I reviewed Armani Cuir Noir, which is quite similar to this but about $100 more, and I'd choose this over the Armani even the prices were equal. What sets this apart from the Tom Ford "Ebene Fume" others are smelling are the papyrus and cade oil notes which hold on all day. What sets apart Tom Ford "Ebene Fume" from this are the palo santo and incense notes. I shower every morning with Cremo Palo Santo shower gel. I think it's the god of all notes in a man's fragrance and I'm addicted to a churchy incense note, so I slightly prefer the Ebene Fume to this, but not by much, as everything about this scent works for me, and it's different enough from what I already own that I'm in for a bottle. For me this is more date wear than business wear, but used modestly you can get away with this in a business environment. Strong sillage. All day longevity. And it's not a crazy price for this quality.

What does this smell like? Depends on who you are. For me this smells like a nice dense hard wood, it's deep rich, mysterious but the distinctive smell of hardwoods is the driver for me. If you've been in a wood shop where hard woods are being worked on, this could be very familiar for you. What does my wife smell? Maple Syrup. Yep, that's it until hours in and she picks up some leather too. So what you smell depends totally on who you are and there may be other profiles that people smell as well.. Currently there is a reliable source for this on Ebay, but outside of that I've struggled to find it and pricing is high. This skyrocketed to my top five fragrances because I love smelling like hardwood and my wife loves me smelling like Maple Syrup. For some this may seem like a cool weather or nighttime scent, I think it works year round, personally. Don't blind buy this, but definitely try it if you get a chance, just be prepared for high price tags to get bottles of it. The oud in this is very pleasant and not fecal or rotten to our noses.

It smells like smoky woods with a touch of leather and oud, I guess. I blindly bought a 150ml bottle (10%) and realized that it was too serious, dark, mysterious and formal for my taste and unfortunately it can only be worn during the colder weather. It is nowhere close to vanilla-dominating Raghba, which I had a bottle of back in the days. I cannot compare it to anything in my collection that is how unique it smells. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 8/10

Magical, mystical, unique (although I think the DNA is similar to Baccarat Rouge 540) However, I am not surprised, as the designer is the same. A wonderful fragrance! 10/10

I almost had an olfacto-gasm when I smelled it for the first time lol This is exactly what I've been looking for for a really long time! It makes me proud of Burberry and happy for them somehow; now they finally have a scent that speaks for men who wears Burberry, a masculine British sophistication. I really wanted to drop the money on the spot but realized the size is really unnecessary—I'm hoping in the near future they'll have 100ml (for 2/3 the price) or 75ml (for at least 40% cheaper). Also, I feel like my initials would mess up the bottle and resale value (just in case)...They told me if I don't want any letter, it'd just be a giant space above the logo (Have they thought this through?? Why can't they just print the cute Equestrian Knight company symbol?), so I'll just wait for them to come to their senses. *The 10% concentration is boozier & smokier while the 35% is denser woodier with detectable "oud"

The opening is very thick, heavy, boozy, and syrupy. It's dark and nutty, and there's a bit of the odd, sickly bitterness of oud, which is not unpleasant. This would work best in fall or winter. Once it settles down, there's a dark, woody sweetness, but not in a gourmand way. It also remain syrupy, probably from the amberwood. It's not exactly the antique shop smell I was expecting, but it is nice, and it's not like anything else I've ever tried. I'd prefer if it leaned more into the wood as it comes across more like dark maple syrup than oak, but it's good and enjoyable nonetheless. The projection is not great, at least on me, but that's not necessarily bad since I think this could easily be overwhelming if it were too powerful.

A medicinal pine, papyrus and perhaps oak (I'm not sure what oak smells like) woody frag that's cold, metallic and smoky. Well blended. Good for days when you need some confidence. 2024.9.25 --- Have been using this one a few times but it is quite masculine as JusttheFactsMan put it. I am female and I do find it a bit strong and smoky to my liking. Nonetheless it's still a good example of woody artwork. Once the top is over, it enters the sweet spot. It's still dark, melancholic and bitter, but much mellower. Gives you the mature aura. It will be winter soon in Australia and I'll try spraying it on the trousers or inside the coat to control the projection a bit but still let it wrap around. 2025.5.6

The 10% version is a very robust dry woody leather fragrance; the woodiness is more cedar-like than pure oak or oud. After comparison with Krigler's Established Cognac 66, I find this to be too one-dimensional and heavy, where Cognac 66 has zestiness in the opening, consistent booziness throughout the middle, and pleasant oak in the drydown.

Dry, herbal, slightly smoked wood doused in syrup. Intriguing blend but unsure if it is something I want to smell of. Reminds me a bit SL’s Chene, a prominent boozy oak that I never found myself reaching for it due to the woody overload

Let me start off by saying that this has quite a beautiful opening: I'd say nine out of 10. However, the problem shortly comes after the initial opening. After a minute or so it smells nearly identical to a very cheap Middle Eastern fragrance, called Raghba Wood (not wood intense). It even has that sort of pancake maple woody smell, which I think turns some people off because they think it smells like saliva. To my nose it just smells like it's sweetened with some kind of maple syrup on top of wood, and I am not saying that it is a bad smell. Actually not bad at all. However, to pay that price for something that smells nearly identical to a middle eastern fragrance that costs $30 is unthinkable.

Fascinating opening on this one, highly reminiscent of gula melaka. Warm and rich, with caramelised toasted notes and thick, dark sugary syrup. Boozy nuances play peekaboo, like a coconut-spiked rum. There's an interplay of liquid and dry textures as the smooth syrupy amber melds into the dry, peppery smoky woods. As the scent progresses it feels like the profile dries out more and the oak character with sweet-dry winelike facets pushes through more. Smoky throughout its lifespan, but in a quiet, steady manner, never shouting.

First of all, this line is very hard to find in the main stores and it's only exclusive for the boutiques of Burberry, I was in Italy-Milano for sopping two years ago and I visited the Burberry shop and I found them in front of me, let me tell you about the story of this line : this line has 3 types of concentration (5%, 10% and 15% of oil ) and when you smell each one of them you will feel EDT , EDP AND PARFUM, fantastic idea and totally new so if you want to buy the fragrance you like you will try all of the concentration then decide which one is suitable for you, saying that I bought this perfume with a 10% concentration oh my god, this is very new in the niche market it's not that type of perfumes which thinking is familiar to you at all, dark leather , smoked oakmoss, intense oud, a lot of saffron, and finally they add papyrus to make it smooth and elegant once you spray it you will feel this is not an easy perfume to wear and at the same time you will love it by the days and this what happened to me I bought because of uniqueness and the high quality of it and believe or not it's very niche not frequent at all, longevity:14 hours easily on fabric and 20 hours on the skin. projection: beast. Rate: 9/10.

I have a bottle of the 10% concentration version. It's a dark woody, smoked oakmoss, and slight leathery & oudy scent. A fragrance suitable for formal occasions and cooler weather. Performance is above average, projecting beastly for 2-3 hours and lasting on the skin for another 5-6 hours. This is my favourite within the bespoke line, better than Amber Heath.

Usually not a big fan or Burberry fragrances, but this one may be right up my alley. I'll test this one when I come across it for sure.
