I'm surprised there are no berry notes listed in the opening. For me, this scent is about rich, dark berries over a base of moss and musk. I loved it when I first smelled it, in the 90s when my late father gave it as a gift to my mother, and I love it still. Look for the original Burberry version, not the later reformulation by another company. The original version will say "By Burberrys" on the box and on the bottom bottle label, under the perfume name. There's also an image of a white knight on horseback on the original's red, rounded bottle cap. For a special treat, layer the original version under a quick spritz of Hanae Mori!

Society is one of the best Osmanthus perfumes I have smelled to date. It smells like natural osmanthus. I love this perfume, this is the Osmanthus scent I've been searching for. A super stunning yellow floral/floral perfume. Why do they discontinue these older gems? This smells like class, elegance, and like old money. Gorgeous. I will be buying more mini's of this beautiful scent. If you love osmanthus you need to find a bottle or a mini. Edit: 6/13/22 This has an osmanthus/orange blossom darkly seeped smell. Like all of the notes have been steeped to make a darkly brewed tea. Really lovely.

Bought this out of curiosity... because its compared to my belove scent tribu. I personally cant detect the resemblance of these two. Maybe distant cousins.. Burberry society is classy, feminine and truly burberry english. Society is for the mature and sophisticated bosslady. Flowery, strong and potent...definetely not for the faint of heart. Longevity is eternal and silage is more than an armslenght. If you like me like vintage perfumes this is for sure a must try. I love it, a sparkling diamond in my collection

I'm not crazy, after all. Every time I've worn Society (vintage) I thought I smelled blackcurrant leaf, and apparently others do, too. Cassis and similar smelling notes can be a challenge at times, but I like this. I'm a fan of Chypres, so the other notes are familiar to me. I occasionally get a waft of air that reminds me of Dana Tabu. Something about it makes me think of middle school, (I attended '95-98) so I'm wondering if a teacher wore it. 90s.

Society is class and sophistication bottled. At first the scent intimidates almost smells dirty. Stong and bold, after settling into it you realize it is dirty...sexy dirty. A well blended Burberry classic that may not be suitable for younger women. Definely not a beginner scent. Projects well and lasts 6-8 hours. A masterpiece that can't be compared to anything I've ever smelled.

I love the old version of this perfume. The current bottle I have is not too bad but I can tell there's a difference between it and the bottle I purchased in the 90's. I really wish they'd leave the original scents alone.

The name says it all... . Classy, feminine, sparkling and fresh, not too young. Suitable for every woman who wants a classy and easy to wear perfume.

Still on the fence if this is 'love', or just 'like', but leaning towards love, at the first spritz. It was nice, well behaved, proper fragrance, certainly flowery but very well blended. Gardenia seemed prominent, and African orange flower poked through, not so much of the hyacinth or rose though, a hint of vanilla, all ever so lightly but nicely "smoked". And then there was this monster something that was sweet nearly to the point of cloying... is that osmanthus? I have never came face to face with the real osmanthus, so I do not know how it smells. I was thinking how could anyone put so much of "it" into the fragrance but, at the same time, I was strangely drawn to it. It reminded me of something from the distant past, perhaps a place, or a flower I smelled in passing, but I could not recall what that was, only that I actually liked that smell. Apparently, still do. Overall, I get this feeling that Society is very aptly named as I keep imagining it worn at a fancy dinner in a fancy garden, by a well dressed, well versed woman who could very possibly bear a title of Lady. After all, this is Burberry. I get this feeling that pairing Society with jeans and tee shirt might be a sacrilege, nevertheless, I will most likely do it as I'm a rebel. I'd say Society is a nice fall fragrance, not so much for dead of winter, but ideal for the Indian Summer. Sillage: rather soft, no tail. Longevity: amazing! I took a long shower with one of those Dove Cashmere Oil soaps and, several more hours afterwards, Society is still here. And the drydown is heavenly; I can't stop sniffing my wrist...

Translating this fragrance is like deciphering the code to a great many youthfully vintage perfumes - one stammers with anything more than monosyllabic noise and big facial expressions. Society fits well into the same, leaving breathless mouths agape, and "wow", "well", and "whoa" descriptors. Although I feel this site portrays, in large part, an approachable catalogue of perfumes and their identifiers, I feel missing the cassia top note just plain negligent. Supported by research on other sites I feel confident when I say, that despite very strong character support provided by Osmanthus, Tuberose, and Gardenia, Cassia dominates from the start through to final gasps of dry down. It is for this very reason some may find such strong uric notes to challenge them out of wear or welcome. In fact, I would share that inkling if not for the vast play underfoot. Torpedoes of light, sweet and musky, entwine with the woody and smoky tones encasing a heart of amber. On the surface, placid waters remain still, confidently smothering the passionate torrent below. Dubious floral chords arise sporadically, and convincingly summon a gentle floral presence before, again placing the wearer in the heart if a traditionally pungent chypre. As for this chyprephile, and bonafide perfume enthusiast, I can only say my affections remain fickle. Whose to know which days something unusual becomes a fine caviar, and which days it is plainly fish eggs.

Oh, do I feel privileged to have a wee sample of this beauty! For some little while I have been extremely fond of vintage floral bouquets. Some are soapy. Some are challenging. Most are Big and Gorgeous, others sensitive and delicate. Burberry Society strides right down the middle - neither massive nor shy. The name is utterly appropriate. More like an elegant woman wearing a linen dress with corsage than a young girl wearing a vintage Laura Ashley dress, but either image is appropriate. The first whiff was quite reminiscent of DVF's charming Tatiana. Indeed, the orange blossom is to blame! As the fragrance develops it leans another direction altogether and even slightly resembles EA's Splendor. Splendor has too much Freesia by far for my skin, whereas the lilies here give a similar effect without being overwhelming or shrill. I will not lie. If I found an inexpensive bottle I would buy Society, but at the current prices I will hold fast to my other delightful floral bouquets without a backward glance. This is not as distinctive as Sung (greens and narcissus!) or Estee Lauder Beautiful (roses AND so much more!), both of which are fast favorites of mine. Distinctive or not, Society is Stunning, however, and you will not be sorry to have met her. :D Spring in a bottle.

Review of vintage edp: OSMANTHUS. Plummy, suedey osmanthus. I love this note- it is always much darker than I expect it to be, and for me that alone makes this an evening scent. If you want to like leather, but find you can't wear it, try osmanthis- it's a very similar effect, without the harshness or tang you get with leather notes. In the heart, I get mimosa and a light orchid note, warming BS and softening the scent. The dry down is greener, with a touch of green hyacinth, bergamot, and incense added to the now soft osmanthus. Over all, I find Society to be warm, a little dark, plummy, with light floral and citrus notes. Very elegant, with an almost voluptuous vibe, but restrained. Think of a full skirted dress with a cinched in waist- controlled, but very, very feminine, and you can't help noticing the shape of the body underneath. Not in an obvious way, but you are very aware of curves ;)

Burberry scents are usually so well blended, it's kinda hard for a newbie like me to recognize the notes. but i'm working on it. i have one of those humble, tiny bottles. upon first "splash" it was just so-so. but after the drydown i got a really nice, exotic medley of flowers. i do get the tuberose. i do get the hyacinth. and there's a hint of something cool and fresh. almost minty. its really nice. distinguished and respectable. this strikes me as a unique, pleasant, and professional "boss scent". something an established entrepreneur would wear. don't always need expertise to know what's good, right?

For me this is a classical indolic scent in the vein of Joy or Kate Moss Vintage Muse - not at all what I expected from reading the other reviews. Society is quite smooth and rich, evoking an elegant 80's vibe. It's definitely NOT a cold or sparkling scent on me. The top notes from my bottle are musty, which could be because my bottle is a little old, but the heart and base notes are still good. Sillage is moderate and longevity is quite good on me.

I had this scent as a kid, and I only vaguely remember it. I do, however, remember the ad campaign... Society - You were born to it. And the Kardashians wept.

The opening is very strong and pungent and it causes me headache, but when it drys down after two hours its heavenly, and it leaves the most intoxicating trail I have ever smelled in my entire life.

I bought this from a "bargin bin",an untested impulse buy. It is inoffensive. I spritz it on my way out the door to no where special. I do not mean to damn this frag with faint praise as it is pleasant. If the bottle was a bit groovier I would suggest it was for a young girl. The staid presentation of bottle and box is at odds with carefree ,casual fragrance. As the notes suggest it is a bit fruity, a bit floral with a musty, powery ondertone. It lasts for a couple of hours. Definitely won't offend or frighten so okay for work.

It's like having a mouth full of 5 flavour lifesavers. Only better. Truly one of the unique fragrances of yesteryear. Therefore in the hoard category. I must add an enveloping aroma. best of Burberry's scents ever. Not available here any more either.

I so loved it! Sweet but not over sweet, rich smell, deep and earthy, and the same time very very elegant and sic. Peach and cinnamon and something mysterious like liqueur! The bottle, excellent, classy! Please, please, please, bring it back!!!!

I love this my son says it smells like christmas.. Very enjoyable a bit muskier than I usually wear but love the tones. Wish I could buy some in Australia

I'm surprised there is not a berry or cherry note listed in this. All I get is a strong heavy sweet cherry syrup note.

Burberry Society EDP is my favorite and wonder where I could buy it again in Singapore
