Aqva Pour Homme Marine

Today I'm heading over to the house of Bvlgari to take a look at a discontinued fragrance: Aqva Marine. Previously, I had the pleasure of reviewing another fragrance from the same line, Aqva Amara, and I was genuinely surprised by how much I appreciated its scent profile. Like Aqva Amara, Aqva Marine proved to be quite a challenge to procure. While it is currently available on platforms like eBay, it typically commands an exorbitant premium. I was not prepared to pay such a high price for it, but as luck would have it, I serendipitously came across a bottle on sale at a Perfumania that was a bit out of my way. Now let's get into it and see if Aqva Marine can pick up where Aqva Amara left off. Opening: The opening is a harmonious blend of aquatic freshness, lively citrus, and clean freshness. The primary notes I discern are water notes, grapefruit, seaweed, and neroli, with the water notes and grapefruit being the most prominent. True to its name, the fragrance commences with a powerful and refreshing blast of a fresh, oceanic accord. It is very reminiscent of the type of marine notes used in D&G's Light Blue Eau Intense, but somehow even more realistic, lending it a fresher and more invigorating sensation. Behind the aquatic accord comes the grapefruit, balancing out the briny tones with a substantial dose of juicy and slightly bitter citrus. Along with the water notes, grapefruit is also a dominant accord in Light Blue Eau Intense, so the two fragrances are easily comparable in this regard. Next is the seaweed and neroli. The seaweed helps to distinguish Aqva Marine from Light Blue Eau Intense by imparting a saltier, greener, and subtly ozonic quality, akin to the seaweed found in Bond No. 9's Wall Street, but without the metallic, screechy harshness. Lastly, the neroli gives the opening a soft, floral aspect while lending a gentle sweetness; similar in tone to the neroli found in Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino, but far less bold and abrasive. Dry Down: The dry down settles into a composition that is still predominantly aquatic and citrusy, but with a new, ambery depth. The primary notes I perceive are water notes, mandarin orange, cedar, and amber, with the water notes and mandarin orange being the most compelling. Maintaining the close connection to its namesake, the water notes continue to be the highlight of the fragrance in the dry down with the same aquatic and oceanic tone, but in a more subdued and rounded manner compared to the initial potent blast. Trailing closely behind is the mandarin orange, which has swapped places with the grapefruit to provide an analogous citrus accord, but one that is noticeably juicier, fruitier, and sweeter. This is followed by the cedar and amber. The cedar emerges in the dry down to provide a dry, masculine woodiness, which serves as a sturdy backdrop for the marine and orange notes. Lastly, the amber manifests in the background as a subtle yet rich balsamic accord, adding depth to an otherwise bright and fresh fragrance. Performance: The initial projection is robust, reaching out approximately six feet. Sillage mirrors that potency with an easily discernible scent trail. After a few hours, the projection and sillage remained largely unchanged. At the seven-hour mark, the projection had diminished considerably to about three feet, and the scent trail was lighter, but still noticeable without much effort. The fragrance became a skin scent shortly thereafter. When to Wear: As the name implies, Aqva Marine is unequivocally a spring/summer fragrance best suited for daytime wear. This is a casual fragrance at its core, and it works perfectly for outdoor activities, informal gatherings, or as a gym scent. However, I would not select it for special/formal occasions or for the office. Blind Buy: If you appreciate a heavy-handed aquatic fragrance like Light Blue Eau Intense, Aqva Marine would be a safe blind buy for you. Final Verdict: From the moment I sprayed this on, I knew it was going to be something that resonated with me. While I typically gravitate toward more substantial, rich, fall/winter fragrances, I have a deep appreciation for highly aquatic and fresh scents, and Aqva Marine certainly fits that description. From opening to dry down, the water notes remain the highlight, giving the fragrance that cherished oceanic quality. There is also a notable evolution to the fragrance, with grapefruit and neroli leading the way in the opening, then transitioning into rich and woody nuances with cedar and amber in the dry down. The performance was also very respectable for such a fresh fragrance, and it lasted just long enough to get through a full workday. All things considered, I believe Aqva Marine is an excellent spring/summer fragrance that stands out in its category and can easily compete with heavy hitters like Light Blue Eau Intense. Needless to say, I am very glad to have this in my collection. I would not recommend spending the extortionate amount that people are asking for it on eBay, but if you can manage to find it for a reasonable price, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Alright people, today we’re talking about a scent that basically smells like someone bottled the ocean and put a luxury brand label on it. This fragrance is one of those classic aquatic summer scents that tries very hard to make you feel like you’re on vacation.  But does it actually smell like the ocean... or like someone dropped citrus into a fish tank? Let’s find out. First Spray (aka “Did someone just splash seawater on me?”) Right off the top you get a blast of grapefruit, mandarin orange, neroli and petitgrain.  It’s bright, fresh, slightly bitter citrus. But very quickly the real star shows up: seaweed. Yes. Actual salty marine seaweed vibes. Imagine standing on a beach where: waves are crashing salty air is blowing and someone nearby just cut open a grapefruit That’s basically the opening. It’s refreshing... but also very ocean-realistic, which means some people love it and others go: “Why do I smell like I wrestled a sea turtle?” After about 15–20 minutes the fragrance settles into the heart: rosemary marine water notes seaweed accord  This is where the scent really earns its name. The marine note here feels salty, watery, and slightly green, almost like standing on a pier with ocean spray in the air.  Some fragrance fans describe it as: “ocean, sunscreen and slight seaweed.”  It’s very atmospheric. Not tropical beach cocktail vibes. More like European seaside vacation. Think: linen shirt, sunglasses, overpriced espresso. A few hours later things calm down into the base: amber cedarwood  This part is clean, slightly woody, and mineral-like. The salty marine note sticks around while the woods give it structure, kind of like sun-warmed driftwood on a beach.  It’s simple, but pleasant. Nothing overly complex — just a clean aquatic vibe. Performance (fresh fragrance physics) Let’s be real. Fresh aquatic fragrances almost never perform like monsters. Typical performance for this one: Longevity: about 4–6 hours  Projection: moderate for about 1–2 hours  Sillage: light refreshing trail  One Reddit user described it perfectly: “Projects for an hour or two, lasts about five hours.”  So yeah... it’s not a beast. But honestly fresh marine fragrances aren’t supposed to be nuclear. You want ocean breeze, not chemical warfare. When to Wear It This fragrance shines in situations like: beach days hot summer weather casual daytime gym or sports It’s especially good in high heat, where heavier fragrances would feel suffocating.  Wearing this in winter feels a bit like bringing flip-flops to a snowstorm. Technically possible... but questionable. Compliment Factor This scent usually gets positive reactions because it smells clean and refreshing.  But it’s not a loud compliment magnet. It’s more like: “Hey, you smell fresh.” Not: “WHAT IS THAT AMAZING SCENT???” Still, for summer it works perfectly. Final Thoughts Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine is basically the fragrance version of a beach vacation. Fresh citrus. Salty ocean air. Driftwood drying in the sun. It’s not the loudest or most complex fragrance out there. But on a hot summer day? It smells like someone bottled the Mediterranean. Rating: ⭐ 8 / 10

My first bottle of Aqva Marine, purchased around 2010 or so, met an untimely end after falling on the floor - but I liked it so much that I recently repurchased it. If you like salty marine scents, you can't go wrong with this one - there's a heavy dose of both marine and salty notes here; the sparkling, slightly sour grapefruit opening links so nicely with the calone, rounding its edges (below talkaboutscents rightly mentioned what calone in heavy concentration does to a formulation) and rendering it more like a watermelon/cucumber accord rather than the dreadful white egg note. Aqva Marine is refreshing like splashing your body with sea water during a hot day before going to the beach club and get some icy sour yet fruity drink to cool off, while spreading some sunscreen on your body which mixes with the sea salt on your skin; it offers an underlying playful tone compared to its darker, greener sibling Aqva pour Homme that started the line. In that sense, it is to me pretty much unisex and suitable for more informal situation (although I've worn it multiple time to the office and no one really got offended :D). Compared to my old bottle, this juice is less potent and lasts (and projects) somewhat less, although the scent profile is basically unchanged, though maybe this has a tad less cocumber feeling to it and is more citrus-forward. The powderiness that I remember from the original remains, again less pronounced, in the current formulation. The base, same for both, is a bit a monodimensional fuzzy wood drydown very much common in modern perfumery, and that is the least appealing part of this fragrance, but once you reach that point it is already time to reapply or take a shower before bed time. The pebble/drop bottle design to me is a masterpiece, batch code is 30I70H1 from July 2018. Longevity of the current batches is not great (5 hours give it or take it), projection is intimate, so overspraying a bit is suggested. Love was, love remains!

One of the best summer scents I have ever sampled. It really nails the light citrus seaweed notes of the original,but it turns up the sweetness and the seaweed note is a little subtle. To my nose it smells closer to Versace Pour Homme than Aqva Pour Homme,but its still fantastic. What really disappointed me with Versace Pour Homme (and any other Versace Frag for that matter) is that performance was terrible. In about 3 hours it was all gone,not even a skin scent. So In my opinion if you liked Versace Pour Homme,but have an issue with the performance give this a try Out of all the Flankers I think I like this and Atlantique the best with Amara being third. Atlantique performs way better (About 12 hours plus),but this one is very good as well (9-10 hours). I think that Atlantique really amps up the sea notes and the touch of amber. I love it,but it can be a little off putting to some people. This one has a more mass appealing scent so keep that in mind. With Atlantique I would recommend you get a sample or decant first,but this one is an ok blind buy since the notes are a little more balanced. Also I find that Amara is a slightly less sweeter version of Aqva Marine with a similar performance to Atlantique as I also got about 12 hours plus out of that one. The performance on the whole Bvlgari Aqua line has been fantastic and considering they are alll fresh aquatics the 8 hour plus performance in each fragrance is shocking. Word of caution don't overpay for any of them. 40-50 bucks for a 1.7ml is the tops you should pay for any of the Bvlgari Aqva line Now that my bottle of Atlantique has ran out Ill get a bottle of Marine or even Amara (if I can find it and at a reasonable price). As with every fragrance, this is a subjective review. This is by far the best aquatic fragrance I've tried. It is a true aquatic that actually smells like the ocean in a bottle, so it may not be for everyone. 9.5/10 The seaweed note adds that authenticity with a slight bit of saltiness, but nothing too overpowering (again, for me), the neroli and grapefruit add to the overall juiciness and freshness and are blended smoothly into the mix, and the woody amber base is there but not that prominent, which I think is what makes this so much more appealing as an aquatic/marine scent. It's slightly sweet, slightly salty, and very watery (in a good way), while also being cool, fresh, and juicy. Basically smells like what you'd imagine jumping into a pool or a deep body of water on a hot day would feel like, simultaneously. Longevity is good, around 6-8 hrs, with a moderate-to-personal sillage with around 3-4 sprays at the neck. Maintains the opening oceanic note throughout, though it gets a bit saltier on the drydown. Perfect for spring to warmer weather, and suited to a day out in the sun. Works well at night too, if the setting and vibe are appropriate. Office safe too. Not blind-buy safe, would suggest trying on skin to be sure. I started with a 1ml tester, loved it, and bought the 100ml bottle. Acqua Di Gio lines are not similar at all to this, this is much deeper and oceanic than them. Recommended for someone who truly loves that oceanic smell.

I've used this since 2009 and always have one on hand despite slowly getting more and more colognes as "collection". This my absolutely go to. In a way, it definitely smells fresh and "younger" and might've fitted better back when I was in high school / college, but even today I still get compliments on this cologne once in a while. It has a relatively simple but smooth aquatic / marine profile which doesn't get "old" or weird over time. Compared to something like CK Eternity Marine which I found to be quite close (and a great value), the Bvlgari Aqva Marine just has something simpler and smoother than the other ones in this profile I've seen. There may be ideal settings for this (summer, water, etc) but I think this works well as a daily driver or all-purpose cologne too. It works well with most skins (I've had friends who also used it), most sweats (not for people with strong BO as it is not strong enough to cover much up), and back then I noticed it combined well with cigarette smoke (not to "masks" it, but in conjunction). I've long since quit smoking but I do have fond memories of picking my own jacket the next day and thinking "dayummm this smells good". It does suffer a tiny bit in lasting power, if you can't bring it with you and need to last through a day (say work and then going out), it will be very faint at the end. Works well for ~3hrs.

This fragrance is basically the Mediterranean Sea bottled up. Wearing it feels like standing at the edge of deep water where the horizon blurs and everything turns quiet except the rhythm of waves breaking against stone. It doesn’t just smell “marine” in a generic way, it captures the mood of the sea itself, that cold mineral breath, the salt in the air, the distant depth that feels dangerous. If I had to translate the scent into color, it wouldn’t be bright blue or turquoise. It would be closer to the OG bottle’s tone, something deeper, almost shadowed. It brings to mind dark waters, places where waves crash hard against cliffs and the sea feels both calm and powerful at the same time. My only regret is not buying it earlier, back when I could have gotten the 100 ml for the price I paid now for the 50 ml. Still, I managed to catch the very last bottle, and honestly it would have been a mistake to miss out on something like this. I tried finding cheaper alternatives that carry a similar oceanic feeling, but nothing even comes close. Most ‘marine’ fragrances feel artificial, but this one doesn’t. It’s fascinating how naturally it unfolds, as if the sea itself had been captured rather than recreated. I just hope something this good will ever be produced again, because 50ml feels far too little for the kind of state it can put you in.

What's up, folks! This will be a little different. I'm definitely going to portrait a guy wearing this fragrance but I feel it's quite interesting how does it smells like... It smells like "freshly pulled good-smelling seaweed right out of the ocean!" So it has a nice mild seaweedish smell with some salty aquatic ocean like the transparent smell in it! I never talk materialistic stuff related to fragrances but guys, believe me, this is my favourite bottle in terms of looks. This guy is charming tbh. Now, let's portrait a guy... basically, anybody can justify this fragrance but still let's have some fun: Portrait: "The Real Aquaman will smell like this. Period. A man for whom the ocean is very near to his heart. He loves the ocean and related lifestyle. Loves seafood, surfing is his cup of tea, rides a powerboat and never gets tired to go fishing. Tough body, 6 pack abs, rough beard and tanned." I would highly recommend putting this fragrance in the refrigerator or just do like me... put it in the ice bucket with your beers 15 mins before using it. It works fantastically gorgeous!

Back in 2014, when I didn't know much about scents at all, this was the one of the few fragrances that surprised me the most, straight from the cap. I started wearing it all the time because I loved its uniqueness, its bright opening and the dryness of that Cedarwood/Posidonia combo. It didn't just smell remarkable, it was also vessel for an idea, a portrait of sea-waves, memories from long ago. In my childhood I used to watch them all the time, the sea-waves. Standing on rocks, watching them crash and surge. I couldn't get around the fact that this fragrance was capable of bringing me back to that feeling in an instant. Alone, once again, contemplating the sea. To be able to carry a bit of that salty breeze with you throughout the day was truly special, slightly nostalgic. I was sad to hear they no longer make this, but I was recently able to get a pre-owned 100ml bottle from 2010 that feels like the real deal and I am going to cherish it for special days to come.

#1 in my top 3 Summer/Hot Weather scents(2. Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger 3. Versace Eau Fraiche) since my first whiff. Took my #1 Summer spot from Tommy the 1st time I wore it in 2008. Mom Dukes(My Mother) gave it to me after it was gifted to her as a "Comps. Reward" from Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City. I was skeptical at 1st(wasn't really a fan of salty marine notes), but as the day progressed (mid to late August day) I realized, this is great/excels in hot weather. It's marine without being nauseating from an excess of seaweed and salty notes(to me); just the right amount to blend with the citrus and neroli. It's blended damn near perfectly to me. And it works wonders in humid/hazy days too(doesn't really have to be hot weather). Personally, I wear Aqva Marine almost year-round, minus the dead of winter. Not a monster, longevity and sillage wise. But it definitely last and leaves a trail. No need to over-spray

Uniqueness/Memorability: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10 (I personally experience around 8 hours on skin, while on clothing, it can extend to nearly 16 hours. Some users report variations in longevity, which may be due to batch differences.) Sillage: 8/10 Overall: 8.5/10

This is such an interesting fresh, aquatic, marine perfume. The opening starts off with an aquatic, almost like woody esque. In the dry down, it kind of smells like a freshly cut watermelon, even though it's not listed in the note breakdown. Longevity and projection aren't really the best with this fragrance. Since it's an aquatic, freshie scent, it has bad longevity and projection. I get around 4-6 hours on my skin with a soft projection. In my opinion, this fragrance leads more masculine than unisex. I also think that this fragrance could work in an office environment. Recommend this fragrance for the summer mainly. Lastly, is it a safe blind buy? Yes, 100%. If you love fresh aquatic's, this is for you. But sadly Aqva Marine is discontinued so it might be hard to find. 8/10 a good fragrance by Bvlgari.

Good for d Summer's, especially in Tropical weather like India. Bvlgari aqua opens up wid d fresh notes of Seawater & Orange, which is not synthetic or chocking & neither it smells like eggs. Donno why d others felt like that but its d olfactory fatigue, can't help with that it depends on d body chemistry. I really enjoy d drydown of this scent which is full of oceanic thrill by the help of seaweed note & also I can detect some musky note in d drydown which I really love. For me its one of d favorite Summer Scent which also garner me a good amount of compliments. Highly recommended for those who lives in an high heat/temp areas. Plz give it sometime, it really deserve its place in one of d best Summer Fragrance. Lots of love from INDIA 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

I remember rooftop bars would be wafting Bulgari Aqua Marine in the summers of the early 2010s. Back then there wasn’t yet the explosion in new releases and the excellent releases had enough space to take over the nightlife of cities. Perhaps Aqua Marine was one of the last fragrances to enjoy this level presence...Sauvage and Aventus being rare examples more recently. Aqua Marine remains an excellent fragrance, a great aquatic note is augmented by that contained seaweed note, both of which remain to the end. And it all lands on a bed of sensual amber and woods. Longevity and projection are excellent. An important note is that the molecules in Aqua Marine are designed to lift gradually in the high heat. It doesn’t smell the same in the cold.

Definitely my favorite of the Bvlgari Aqva line next to the discontinued Amara, which I personally thought was the most realistic aquatic fragrance of all time. Marine is similar to Amara but not as powerful of bitter. It is a bit more youthful and crowd pleasing and sits right there with heavy hitter aquatics like D&G Light Blue Intense and Versace Man Eau Fraiche . Also bears an ever so slight resemblance to Versace Pour Homme. It's a great fragrance but prices on discounters on unusually high at the moment so definitely tey to get it for cheap. Performance on me was great. Not as powerful as Aqva Amara was, but not to far behind it. Will easily perform 8-10 minimum.

White linens at a beachside resort. Very oceanic, crisp and clean with a bright opening. Not really unisex imo, leans more masculine. I would say that it's pretty versatile, young and old can wear it. Best suited for mild to high heat occasions. I don't get any of the foul smells others have complained about. I even bought a backup as it's my understanding that the whole line has been discontinued. Scent: 8/10 Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Versatility: 7.5/10 Uniqueness: 7/10 Value: 9/10 Where to wear: summer days, at the gym, on the boat, around the house. Faux pas: not for the fall or winter, not for an evening out(unless it's to the beach)

Talk about a fragrance that has never left my Top 10 of all time. I have purchased each of the Aqva line when they come out, and have enjoyed them all. 4th Place Amara 3rd Atlantiqve, 2nd Original Aqva Pour Homme 1st Marine. It just works perfectly in my climate and on my skin. I don't care if sillage doesn't cover the entire state of Texas, or lasts 2 weeks on skin.. come on, this is just a glorious fresh fragrance with a hint of that Seaweed beachy vibe. In general, 5 hours is what I get ever since 2008, so I doubt there have been reformulations. Still to this day, I haven't found an aquatic I love more than this, but your mileage may vary.

This one is EASILY my favourite aquatic fragrance. I like a lot of them, but this puts me next to the ocean on a clear sunny day better than any other. The projection, sillage and longevity are all better than the standard performance of an aquatic fragrance, too. The One thing I will say, this seems like it might not be universally liked. I mean... It REALLY smells like the ocean. If you like that, great! But think of it as something you're wearing for yourself. Compliments are a bonus, and try not to overdo it. Edit/Update: It's getting hot here in Canada. This stuff keeps me cool just by smell alone. Miracle in a bottle right here

This fragrance is a unique and solid freshie for the price point. It opens sharp with a lot of citrus, the rosemary and neroli giving it a green spicy kick, which then dies down to a very oceanic and fresh, spicy skin scent. The seaweed note is definitely there and might not be for everyone, but it's a lot more herbal than you might imagine and gives a satisfying edge to the fragrance. While it could qualify as an everyday/casual scent, this scent shines best on days spent out in the sun, at the beach, or exercising. Longevity isn't groundbreaking but you can get away with over-spraying it, especially for the price.
