Le Gemme Empyr

Okay, let’s get the price out of the way first off. Is it overpriced - hell yes. Is it worth the money - no. These Bvlgari’s are very expensive but I guess that also makes them exclusive too. So what about the scent itself? I’d describe this as high-end designer. It reminds me of Tygar in a way. Not that they smell the same, as they really don’t, but they are both fairly simple, mainstream type fragrances but with more quality than your usual designer fragrance. I don’t think the fragrance accords listed above at the time of me writing this review are that accurate. Firstly, I get a blast of orange and ginger, making for a zingy and energising opening. The woody notes are there although there’s not an overdose of sandalwood in the usual way, as the spicy and zesty notes temper this aspect of the fragrance and thus stop it becoming too warm. Benzoin gives a little vanilla warmth and sweetness to the fragrance. There’s a slight powdery hint in the background that makes it feel clean although, fortunately, this element is low key and subtle. The late drydown becomes dryer and woody with a mineralic edge. Think orange, ginger and wood with a mineral sheen, and this is what you predominantly get. One thing to note, there is a slightly weird accord that runs through the fragrance that some have likened to seaweed, meat or even blood. Although that sounds gross, I get why people would say this. It’s more apparent when smelt from the skin than from the sillage or when sprayed on clothes (perhaps it’s a skin chemistry thing and not everyone will smell this) and, to be honest, it is a little unsettling at first. I don’t dislike this aspect but I can’t say I particularly enjoy it either. However, were it not there then it would be a completely different type of scent that we’ve all smelt before, so it does add something new and different. I think this accord will grate on some, whereas others will really enjoy this aspect. I suspect it might be a synthetic that reacts differently depending on the wearer as some people don’t seem to get this at all. I’ve found this fragrance quite hard to describe because it could be seen as a little generic - it has a simplicity about it but not so simple that it’s a one note fragrance, rather the few dominant notes used blend together as one. The best I can compare it to, and this is from memory as I’ve never owned a bottle, is it has similarities to Dior Homme Sport 2017, although they aren’t identical. It also reminds me of MFK Amyris, again not identical but it has similarities from memory. So you’d think after all said and done, I’d give this a miss; overpriced, a bit generic, nothing groundbreaking etc. Except, I really like this. It’s hard not to like this to be honest. Price aside, it’s better than your usual designer fragrance, it smells classy, it’s extremely versatile (all seasons and occasions), it’s not heavy or overpowering but it lasts for ages and has moderate projection. A good quality fragrance that can be used at anytime. This will be a fragrance I wear when I don’t know what to wear, an office friendly scent and a fragrance that will get me compliments, I’m sure. Cost aside, see this for what it is, rather than what it isn’t, and you might just like it too. Although, if cost is a primary factor then there are other, cheaper quality alternatives that do a similar job. I love the Bvlgari bottles though with the gemstone magnetic cap. Overall, it’s a hit for me.

got this baby for half the retail price in discounters ! fck those youtubers influencers that said this scent smells like eggs and fish, i knew bvlgari didnt pay to those influencers for their reviews this is the best fresh ginger scent i smelled. its sexy , astrigent, sparkling ginger ale soda, i fking like it, made my vibrato bottle obsolete that i would sell it ... i tested on my skin in the airport duty store, took an 8 hour flight, 2 hours bus to the hotel, the hotel staff told me i smell amazing, wow 10 hours and they caught some whiffs.... i find it versatile for daily wear, for all seasons and occasions i probably end my search for the best ginger scent here. goodbye tygar and vibrato!

Probably the most slept on and prematurely dismissed fragrance in this line up. Fantastic release. Definitely has that very lightly gingery and citrusy sea mist quality to it when smelled in the air (ie. how its supposed to be smelled, not your nostril stuffed against a tester strip or your skin). As for @Slowpainhauer below who apparently is a world renowned ginger specialist... I am also from the same region and yes ginger does smell like this. What type of ginger are you using? The ginger note in this is accurate, but as if it was splashed with water - which is likely the imagery the perfumer intended (it's literally an ode to the Mediterranean Basin...)

I love this one, it's my favorite one. A fresh and pleasant fragrances that lasts so long on clothes, too! It's just an awesome- long-lasting fresh ginger type of scent. Easy to like, easy to wear. It's a very realistic ginger scent, like this all of the facets of actual ginger, from the whole root to the juiciness of being cut-up. With a base of creamy sandalwood for sure, but the ginger never fades. If you don't like it, I suggest that you might be trying to smell it too closely. Try to catch how it smells in the sillage - like spray it on your jacket and hang it somewhere you often pass by. I think you'll find it near impossible not to like.

Amazing fresh scent and super long lasting. I love everything Jacques Cavallier does. This is up there with Tygar if not better. Orange and ginger is what i get here and it doesn't change. Really appealing and well done. This will easily work all year round but i would definitely wear this in spring/summer mostly. 10/10

I just bought it, its one of the most amazing scents after Bvlgari Malakeos, sexyest and coolest scent. But it is true, sometimes in some days and on some fabrics it smells like a wet dog but it happens sometimes, its 2d best parfume ive ever experienced

Masterpiece, Period!!!!!!. Long lasting, high quality, enormous silage, pleasant smell, a bit common fresh smell maybe, but at same time with a hint of uniqueness and definitely very Luxurious at same time. For me this is a summer 10/10 certainly a MUST.

It’s sea salty and minerally—best experience from afar as the sillage is huge yet soft. It really smells like the sea breeze from the Mediterranean basin in the most luxury hotel way

This goes to show you can’t trust Fragrantica. This is a banger. One of the nicest ginger scents I’ve smelled. Good performance too. Cavallier is a master perfumer. 9/10 for me.

Empyr is fantastic, one of my favorites. Like it much better than Tygar or L'Immensite. It's more refined than both, highly recommended

I find this to be remarkably average - in the sense that, for the cost, you aren’t getting something drastically different from what you’ve smelled before. With that said, it is pleasing and easy to wear - which is not a bad thing, but so are many of the $85 scents you find at the Macy’s counter. With that said, I’m surprised at how much attention it grabs. My wife feels this is far superior to anything else I own. It’s kind of like when you get your kid an expensive toy but they like to play with the box instead. To summarize - this is a nice, fresh scent with some bite. It’s not likely to make a huge impact if you’re an enthusiast - but it does seem to get noticed by the peasants.

Tried it on skin today but I'm not a fan. It is quite piercing, lineair and synthetical. Reminds me a lot of Opalon (of which I'm not a fan either), where Opalon is a lot greener. 6/10 edit 1 As with all opinions, one can change. I have tried a few more times and actually like it now. Still not enough to buy. 7,5/10 edit 2 LOL, sometimes a fragance can grow upon you. After getting a nice compliment I rediscovered the scent again. Actually I find it very invigorating en refreshing. Sillage and performance are very good. 8/10

An energizing and unique woody aromatic scent. The perfume opens with notes of orange and ginger. As it moves towards its heart we get hints of benzoin, vetiver and slight spice. The perfume settles on a base of sandalwood, styrax and balsamic resin. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Not the best of this superb line of ‘La Gemme’ scents but very nice and complimentary. Enjoy!

A simple, refreshing warm-spicy with a designer vibe. Good but nothing to write home about for this price range

I get marine and strong citrus notes with Ginger struggling to peek through.

I’ve accumulated hundreds of fragrances and out of all of them.. this is the softest most subtle scent I’ve ever owned. Yes it was a blind buy- and my most regretted one at that. I first thought that I had bought a fake, so I went to the Neiman Marcus where I know they had the Le Gemme line and tested it there... nope, that’s just how it is. If you’re in the market to smell like a super subtle ginger scent, this is for you. I also have Orom, Gyan, Kobraa, and Sahare, those are actual bangers- I like em in that order PS I did pick up on that wet dog after 30 minutes.. it’s crazy how exact it smells like it

As an Indian who uses ginger in everything—from daily cooking, to morning tea, to even remedies, this is NOT what ginger smells like, at all. The scent I get from this is what rotten ginger smells like mixed with a metallic, mineral vibe. More accurately, this is how ginger kept in the refrigerator for weeks smells like if we grate it in hot water for our tea. Yuck. The dry down is somewhat bearable.

Not the biggest fan of this. it's similar to Wet Stone from Amouroud, and has that sea salt stone vibe which is weird because notes are ginger and sandalwood you would not expect such a marine vibe. If you like perfumes like Megamare by Orto Parisi I think you gonna love this one.

This is challenging to appreciate and even more so to wear, it carries an aroma distinctly reminiscent of human flesh—a scent akin to that of a person who has been marooned at sea, far removed from the comforts of a fresh shower.

What did I just blind buy ? Gave me CKone nauseating vibes . Not the fresh out of production CKone, no no no this is CKone that’s been stewing in warehouse purgatory for a decade . It’s witnessed extreme heat and extreme cold and smells nauseating . For a minute it reminded me of Porfumum Roma Arso , a fleeting minute that could’ve been redeeming .If this was a Lattafa release I wouldn’t be this harsh . Edit: Has that Mosquito By Comporta stench , you know that ozonic unsexy stench . Sorry an addendum for the edit above : Got a ghastly whiff of a salty rancid egg smell , so strange .

I'll begin by echoing what fellow reviewer 'usas' has said below -- there's definitely a resemblance between Empyr and Opalon (another creation of Le Gemme line); the marine/light ambery/cucumber notes play an important role in both. I'll also agree that Empyr does rely on a hefty dose of synthetic materials, but so has every entry in Le Gemme line, including hits such as Onkeh, Falkar, Kobraa, Tygar, etc. I'll take things a notch further by saying that Empyr tries to combines many of the best elements of Le Gemme line: the slightly syrupy citrus opening of Tygar, the sharp 'wood shavings' note of Kobraa, & a hint of the rosy freshness of Garanat. The whole thing is backed up by a surprising loud and long-lasting base with fresh ambery elements, one that's similar to Opalon but has more interesting nuances (with hints of sandalwood, rose, etc.). The notes in the mid are tied together by a sparkling ginger note that takes things in a very fresh & faintly spicy (as opposed to sweet) direction. The overall effect is definitely pleasing and certainly has garnered me compliments on the few times I've worn this. I think one of the greatest achievements a perfumer should strive for is creating a scent that is greater than the sum of its parts. While I overall enjoy Empyr very much, I am not sure if Jacques Cavallier's creation does a great job combining its different ideas into a cohesive & original whole. I'd also say this definitely veers into the safe/designer-like spectrum of fragrances; don't go in expecting something as original or as daring as Falkar. Final rating: Scent 8/10 Performance 9/10 Originality 6/10

I have now sampled the entire men’s Le Gemme line, I own three, a few observations before discussing Empyr : the line has a thread of ‘designer’ dna running through it, a sharp freshness that’s hard to put your finger on appears in them all. After the first few I sampled I learned the line is not “niche” per se, but more ‘high quality’ and concentrated designer fragrances, which is stating the obvious being from Bvlgari. Empyr was an instant ‘no’ for me unfortunately, but as with all of them I can appreciate the quality and intensity you get for the money. Initially I smell a slightly ‘pickle-y’ edge to the sandalwood, this reads on the fresh side to me yet pretty voluminous, maybe a white floral/narcotic note of some sort mixed with the woody notes giving it somewhat of an aquatic ‘blue’ feel? I’m surprised this wasn’t released in the spring or summer, it feels like the scent wafting from a luxurious hotel by the ocean at peak summertime activity, even a subtle hint of sunscreen perhaps 🤷🏻♂️ The comparison to Amyris I get too, it’s a loud fresh synthetic aquatic sandalwood that seems to have some type of beach floral accord...DEFINITELY sample before buying! After the recent release of the incredible Azaran, this one takes its place pretty low in the line IMO, but still is a high quality creation and interesting aquatic addition to the line 🤔

Imagine candied ginger. A ginger that lost its sharpness, but still contains a beautiful freshness and spiciness. Coded in sugar crystals. On top you have freshly squeezed juice of a tart orange and some orange zest sprinkled over it. The wind picks the scent up and the smell of soft, fresh wood enriches the composition. It’s soft and absolutely beautiful! That is what you basically get when you wear Bvlgari Le Gemme Empyr. Furthermore, it smells like nothing out there. It is extremely versatile and can be worn for almost any occasion. Dressed up or down, in winter as well as in summer. It is probably not for a macho kind of persona, but for someone who is confident of who they are. This is a kind of scent, that if I could choose only one perfume, it would be the one for me. It's perfect for winter! Sample it if you have a chance. 10 out of 10!

Banger.. I smelled this DNA before many years ago and my previous review is accurate but this is really beautifully composed. L'immensite and Tygar deconstructed with calone, salt, extra patchouli and ginger, no sweetness with some citrus tanginess. Edit: I finally remembered where I smelled this before and I have it at my other place. Azzaro Wild Mint, it’s a mix of calypsone (which is similar to calone but sweeter) and patchouli with mint. Empyr has citruses and ginger instead but the base is the same calone + patchouli.

It’s a blueish ginger woody fragrance.. very heavy on the ginger, LOTS of patchouli and quite salty. Think a minimalist L’immensite without the cascalone but stronger, in the same family as that one and Tygar. I can also smell a grapefruit here. It is heavy and has an eggy smell also... maybe it’s got calone instead of cascalone. Edit, doing the lord's work, adding the official notes: Top: grapefruit essence - Middle: ginger, ambrette seeds - Base: ambrox, musks, patchouli, vetiver

Pyrite is a stone whose name derives from the Greek Pyr, meaning fire. A stone which, if chipped, produces sparks and which represents a very important step for civilization: the invention of fire. This fragrance initially appears cold, reminding us of a stone, but the notes of sandalwood and labdanum mean that it gradually warms up and reveals its "warm" heart. Worth trying, not my type but certainly pleasant.

Everyone's nose is different but this is just disgusting. I fail to see any element of this that is appealing. This smells like your kitchen if you fried eggs in a pan and left the pan in the sink for a whole day . Its very minerally, and unbearable for me. I have smelled challenging scents before, and this doesn't feel challenging. This feels like something that is easy to understand but its just off putting.

First impression: This is sharp and piercing, mineralic. The underlying sandalwood base is really good, but i can't get over the harshness. felt the same way about Tygar unfortunately.
