Royal Leather

Mature, Imposing, Intimidating, Rich Leather. At first thought, I wouldn't have considered this as a "Royal" leather, but when I began to consider all the other great leather fragrances of this genre, I suppose this is actually quite Royal by comparison. So, the name "Royal Leather" is aptly suited. It is not too smokey, it is not too cowboy, it is certainly not barnyard, and it is certainly not associated with a brick. No, this is classy and elegant, but bold and robust. Royal Leather is -similar- to Tuscan Leather and Ombre Leather, but it is not the same. I would fit this in between both of those. It is a strong but beautifully crafted, smooth leather with just a touch of dusty ash, and tiny bit of floral. The other notes in the background round out any rough edges to make it less abrasive. Unlike ADP Colonia Leather, there is nothing fresh about this one. At first sniff, I didn't like Royal Leather because it was too strong, but even then, I couldn't stop sniffing it. I didn't like it, but I had to sniff it some more. By the end of the night I had realized, if I can't stop sniffing it, then I actually do like this. When the scent was finally gone off the paper, days later, I missed it. I wanted to smell it some more. It was then that I realized, I -love- this fragrance, and I have to have it. The performance is very long lasting and the projection is heavy to enormous. It -will- get you noticed. If the leather is too strong for you at first spray, give it a couple of hours. It will settle down to a beautiful, smooth, slightly floral, slightly ashy, leather fragrance. It is mature and it is linear. Like other strong leather fragrances, it can be headache inducing if you smell it too much, too close. I feel it is more appreciated at a safe distance. Royal Leather is the scent of a BDSM leather chair, with Michael Corleone sitting in it.

In contrary opinion to the below review saying Kilian does fresh scents best I’ll completely disagree and say this, Black/Incense Oud, Gold Knight and Back to Black are my favorites :) Although Lemon in Zest and other notable ones are very nice too of course. Anyway on this one, this is a very unique leather to me. It takes the familiar leather note of the famous Tom Ford one, dials that down and adds a real “nutty” like aspect, which I think is the hawthorn and heliotrope mixing. Imagine mild leather, walnuts (mildly almondy too), tannic/woody black tea and a light earthiness coming together and this is what this fragrance comes across as. Oud is in the notes but its not obviously oud-y to my nose. It is fairly linear with that nutty leather from the start to the drydown, and I think leans on the masculine side of unisex with that dry tannic aspect, although the heliotrope bringing a touch of sweetness too could soften it into unisex depending on your style and opinion of course. Lasts well into the next day, so bonus points there on top of the excellent and unique scent profile in the crowded leather genre. I wouldn’t consider it “Royal” exactly, Roja Great Britain might be more along that line but perhaps the Roja is the Monarch and this is a slightly roguish Prince.

Smoky smooth leather with pristine well blended florals. This is a fully fledged grail leather fragrance. The craftsmanship on this one is astounding! I honestly can't even compare it to the usual kilian "bangers" (which I also enjoy), this is mature and very well crafted. For me fully worth the high ebay price tag. On the performance side, it outperformes most kilian fragrances, you will not need many sprays which helps with preserving it. For me it goes on a solid 10 hours and projects well for 4. What I will say is that this is a fragrance that takes itself seriously, I would not call it versatile or an easy reach. You wear what you want and like, but as far as my perception goes, this is not something I would summon often but when I do I enjoy it allot. As for the interlude man comparisons they are correct in the sense that they share a similar feel, but not a similar scent profile. Imagine that the smoky leather replaces the incense/opponax and the florals replace the oregano and you would have a sort of ideea of how it comes across. Great perfume, a love for me.

It's extremely difficult to find anything that beats By Kilian's Royal Leather in the performance category...This is MFK's Oud Satin Mood level of beast. Unreal projection and longevity on my skin. I still feel it is a bit overpriced but this is a high quality juice indeed. The leather is sophisticated and well-blended...smooth and unique. Even for the leather accord alone, to my nose, it is NOT the overly popular TF's leather. Not gonna break down all the notes but the simplest way to describe this is... ... a smooth leather-based fragrance with a prominent gourmand-ish vibe you find in By Kilian's Black Phantom. It does give you a slight, distant hint of Interlude Man as well for its nutty scent profile. It has the powdery element (in which I am a fan of) in a good way. But overall this is a dark, deep and delicious leather fragrance. It's definitely masculine but I could picture some strong females rocking this as well. Not for everyone but if it's for you, you would LOVE it. Just my humble opinion. Definitely a LOVE for me.

I am speechless! A co-worker brought a sample of this to work today and I smelled it. I was right away blown away. This amazing fragrance has an amazing opening and is definitely very different than anything that has been done by Kilian. It actually reminds me a bit on Tom Ford's style. It kind of reminds me of Tom Ford's Anthracite but a lighter and sweeter version of it. I can definitely smell the leather in there but something amazing happens when it is mixed with black tea, it turns the leather and patchouli into a damp earthy smell like anthracite but the black tea, heliotrope and hawthorn makes the fragrance a little sweet not too sweet, a perfect balance. I truly fell in love with this fragrance. It is a sophisticated and a classy smell. Must have in your collection. An update on this germ ----> So as I said this opens up as a very earthy/dirty and sweet kind of scent and after 3 hours the dry down becomes very sweet and flowery (heliotrope).

I just got the sample pack of the kilian exclusives. I have a whole new found respect for this house after already having mad respect for them and owning a couple of his gems. This is what Tuscan leather could have been. Tom take notes...

I absolutely loved it on my husband. It's masculine, gorgeous, intense! It's a beautiful combination of oud and leather with some spicy background notes. It opens up beautifully too!

The final boutique exclusive (so far) that I needed to try, the relatively new Royal Leather By Kilian is a much-needed leather-dominant fragrance to add to their otherwise diverse collection, and it does not disappoint. Slightly refined, slightly dirty, and slightly chocolatey (I get that from the lavender/oud combination, I believe), Royal Leather is pretty pleasant to my nose while still being provocative, an expected combination for the standard retail price of $295 for 50ml. Again, the lavender is mainly what I get that plays alongside the dominant leather, and the oud is in the mix too to further dirty up the leather aspect. Overall an interesting mix. Performance is pretty solid, not a powerhouse like Pearl Oud but not fleeting like Vodka on the Rocks. And given the notes breakdown, this is unsurprisingly a cold-weather-leaning fragrance, though of course the bold could try it in the summer if they so choose. It's masculine enough that I'd probably rule it out for women, but the lavender brings it sufficiently into the unisex area that I believe some women may like wearing it. Likable but not lovable to my nose, Royal Leather is an interesting option for By Kilian fans to explore, and I've not smelled a leather quite like it, so leather fans might enjoy it too. A recommended try, if nothing else. 7 out of 10

Just got a sample of this and not what I expected at all. I own Tom Ford Ombré Leather and this is nothing like it at all on first impressions. In fact I’m not getting much leather at all. I don’t see incense listed as a note but that’s what I get. I immediately thought of Amouage Interlude Man when I smelled it. It’s like a dialled down, smoother version of it. Anyone else get the similarity? I’ve only been wearing this an hour so very early impressions. I love Interlude Man so I’m really enjoying this so far but it’s too close to it for me to buy a full bottle.

Bush leather. A touch of greenery, floral umph and animal skin. Smells badass and unique, if not a bit off-kelter and over powering. Needs vetiver. Interesting stuff, tough to wear. Could be the finishing touch on a Village People cover band Leatherman/Biker outfit.

The opening reminded me of Liberty the Merchant of Venice and Clive Christian's leather, raw, honeyed and floral, with that aroma of smoked and extinguished cigar tobacco in a wet ashtray. The next few minutes I have hints of tonka and vanilla mixed with hawthorn and heliotrope that soften the skin with a frosted but fresh sweetness like anise. This has a Sambuca liqueur ,cigars, cozy, vanilla-like vibe right down to the drydown where patchouli and agar oud are most distinguishable. It is still an mono, simple smell, easy to wear in the cold seasons and formal evenings. And away from meals. Too sweet but, cute. Royal price.

I'm glad I didn't get a full bottle of this, I'll explain why. As someone who loves Kilian's Back to Black & Straight To Heaven, you can see why I'm not a fan of this one. It's soft, "pretty" and nice but this baby powdery smell that lingers just turns me away. As with other Kilian ones, its best in the colder times and if you love those baby powder type of fragrances, you will enjoy this one, even if i don't. Again, it's not bad, I just can't stand this baby powder stuff... would be better fit for a girl/woman in my opinion.

It's is dark, mysterious, a beating. For night and cold wheather. That is it. I wouldn't recommend for dates or club. For hangouts with friends too IMO. The opening is absolutely disgusting! It has the sickening scent of Play-Doh. And I do mean it smells exactly like Play-Doh. Once it dries down, you can pull out a wonderful, woody leather fragrance; it's also got a bit of spice and a strong, comforting warmth. Unfortunately, the stomach-churning Play-Doh smell continues to persist in the dry down and dominates the sillage, though not as ferociously as in the opening. For the spicy warmth and woody notes, you have to get your nose close to your skin as they don't project at all. This fragrance would be awesome if they could isolate and remove the gross Play-Doh accord.

It’s a strong perfume opens up in a leather note similar to Tuscan leather but not as screechy. It dries down into a leather smoky scent along the lines of interlude. Overall a very well blended strong scent.

Royal Leather is a soft leather aromatic. The leather note here can be likened to Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, but replaces the sweet presence of raspberry with...Boston Baked Beans...the candies? I kid you not—that is exactly what it smells like! When sprayed on, the hawthorn and heliotrope initially become very dominant over the leather. These are hazy florals, that add more of a bushy, powdery essence to the fragrance than they do anything floral. There is also a noticeably nutty quality to it underneath, which is what can be likened to the impression of Boston Baked Bean candies. I'm not traditionally one to make such outrageous relations to fragrances, I personally find it to be bad style. But I don't believe in holding back if it's explicitly true either, and this one is so unique and comical, I can't help but elaborate on it. Royal Leather is a very intriguing fragrance. Chiefly feminine for its qualities, but you'd probably have to be an indie or uptown girl to enjoy this one. Someone who intentionally looks for the class in a fragrance based on its unique qualities. I certainty don't see anyone else having the tastes to appreciate the vintage touch here, with Royal Leather's slightly sweet, powdery composure.

Not an office or super safe scent. After a couple hours, the oud wears off a lot and makes it more wearable. It’s then a lot more leather, but with some sort of boozy note. The leather isn’t a fresh, clean leather. This is more like old, high-quality leather. A little dirty, but still fairly enjoyable. It’s quite a dark scent, and it smells like the leather-centric brother to Kilian’s Black Phantom. Fall/winter nights, 25+ man. Pretty mature. May offend some and is potent. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan. I think Kilian does fresh scents better. Then again, for this type of fragrance, I much prefer Tom Ford’s take with Tuscan Leather. Not full bottle worthy to me. It’s so strong a 0.25 oz would last you a long time. I’m fine with my 3 mL sample. Em t wear this often. 4/10 scent, 9/10 longevity, 9.5/10 sillage. 5/10 average overall. Don’t blind buy; the reviews here hyped it, but the actual scent ended up disappointing.

Inspired by British heritage, Royal Leather is a dark, seductive beast of a scent that catapults one into a world of class and tradition. Rich, comforting black tea stirs the soul at the outset with hawthorn adding a floral, ever so slightly indolic, patina. This amuse bouche segues into an impossibly refined leather, all supple, smoky and sizzling. Heliotrope lends a powdery, nutty dimension that reminds me of bitter almonds and gives one a passing resemblance to scents like Pegasus and Italica. As it dries down, patchouli and oud cast a silken cloak over the olfactory experience, giving things a dark, earthy heft. It's a fragrance that sounds like it might just be a little too much but everything is blended with absolute sophistication and it does not feel animalic or overwhelming at all. Also one of the best performing Kilians I've experienced; two or three sprays lasts all day and creates a divine scent cloud.

Royal leather is a promising name. let's start with my impressions. the opening is leather. not like Fahrenheit Dior, not like tom ford Tuscan leather, not like montales leather oud. the leather note is mixed with pepper and smoke. after half an hour turns to more pepper, somekind of sweet pepper. longevity is more than 8 hours. sillage is great also. it reminds me of interlude Amouage. less harsh and less oriental. it's not a typical kilian creation. I got plenty of compliments. mostly from women. they say i smell classy and masculine. I can hardly imagine a woman wear Royal Leather. so I guess this is the second parfume of kilian for men only, after white cristal. definitely for winter. In my opinion kilian is a very classy company, LV is top quality anyway, but top creations are back to black, love and Amber oud. Royal leather comes second to them.

Just got my bottle today and I absolutely LOVE it. I sprayed it on the card that comes inside of the Kilian box about two hours ago. It’s now closed and in my bathroom with the card inside. I can still smell it. I ran into Tom Ford Ombré Leather a few weeks ago and I wanted to get it. But it wasn’t available. This smells better. Much more masculine. And ALOT stronger. I’m unsure as to why I can still smell it. I’ve taken a shower and I can STILL smell it on my finger tips. Amazing fragrance. If you sport a beard; u should have at least one leather fragrance. And this is a BEAST

The best leather I have ever smelled and I’m not really a fan of leather as I find most too synthetic smelling but this is out of this world. The patchouli and oud come through in the drydown but the leather is the note that stars within the duration of the fragrance life. This is a monster of a fragrance so this is definitely a full bottle worthy purchase.

Yes! I was thinking the same! Amouage Interlude Man! Why do people keep down-voting the similarity if they haven't tried it :/ Anyway, I do not dislike the fragrance although I was quite disappointed; I guess I was hoping for something "fancier" since it's called "Royal" Leather and floral supposedly dominates the Main Accords

Got a compliment in the first 30 minutes of wearing it. Its like a slightly darker/more masculine tuscan leather. Very strong stuff, people will notice it for sure. Its not bad or weird but might not be my style. Id go 7.5/10 overall.

Scent - patchouli, herbaceous tea & leather. Season/Time of Day - I prefer to use this in the colder months, day or night. Projection - I did get noticed, it garners compliments. Longevity - I get 24hrs consistently.
