Byblos

Sometime in the '90, I complimented my favorite cousin, she smelled incredible, so she gave me the rest of the bottle. Best cousin EVER! She said she got over it and wore Dune that I still associate with her. A decade older, sophisticated with a wicked sense of humor, flawless taste and she always had my back. We keep promising to see each other more often and spend more time together, but somehow we never do. Life keeps getting in the way. Anyway, I wore this beauty all summer, despite beeing crazy in love with my Dolce Vita that I thought I would wear faithfully for the rest of my days. Things are so dramatic when you're a teen. Unconstant too. Summer over, bottle ended in the drawer to be sniffed from time to time but never worn again. It still might be there at my parents house. The color is turqoise. Decade later, I stumbled upon a dark blue bottle, Swarovski special edition or something, so ridiculously cheap on ebay that I had to buy it. Beautiful bottle, but the juice is not the same. It's thicker, sweeter and the top notes are shot. I can't wear it and I can't get rid of it, nostalgia still rides me and the bottle is lovely. It took me some time and reserch to understand why, that there are edt and edp concentrations and that dabble bottles don't age well. Today, I was frantically looking for a bottles of this disgracefully discontinued juice, Eau de Thé Bleu, sold out on yet another website, before the prices sky rock and there it was...Byblos edt, just like I remember. I could even hear Pearl Jam with a touch of Red Hot Chili Peppers in the background. It's summer and I wouldn't mind be reminded of just how stupid young I was. To understand the fascination, it has to be put in the context. The choc of the first fruity aquatics of the '90, they were so different from everything we smelled around us. Our mothers, aunts, sisters all wore the classic floral aldehydes or strict green chypres, they were all so adult and serious. In contrast, fruity aquatics were bright and playful. It was also the beginning of everything gourmand and vanilla was everywhere. My mother used to say that all young girls smell like cake. I don't think she enjoyed much public transportation these last decades. Even among fruity floral aquatics, Byblos stands out because of its decadence and complexity that is more '80, but the balance and the feeling when you're wearing it, it's the '90. The best of the '90. Like some CD compilation. So now, I'm expecting. The bottle. With my usual ultra-regenerative anti-wrinkle cream. In what shape will it be? Will I be able to wear it? Update: Oh, yeah. Same bottle and pretty much the same perfume. It might be slightly sweeter than I remember or the only difference is that I'm an adult now. Anyway, summer magic is the same. I love it as much as I did decades ago. Longevity and sillage are both impressive.

I have to admit I bought this for three reasons. The Fragrantica reviews,(thank you) the mimosa, and finally the price. I am not a fan of lily of the valley, but in this perfume all I can say is wow! Byblos is complimented by so many other wonderful notes, fruity and flowery, etc. I tested it on paper first and some of the white flowers seemed so dominant that I thought I might not care for it, but then tested it on skin and this is where the real magic began for me. All the notes together make this such an enjoyable fragrance. Sweet and fruity and flowery (a little heady a first) but wait until all the notes quiet a little and yes, lovely is the only word that fits. I am wearing it. edit: Came back to say how much I love this fragrance. It has a starch-like quality in the dry down, that makes me think of clean white sheets and sun. I don't get the fruits except maybe at first, but then they don't really seem overly sweet. Love this.

I have the EDT version - the taller, teal bottle. At first spray, I get a burst of bright juicy fruits. Then after it settles down, I get the fresh florals - but still with the fruits. Looking at the notes of this perfume, I am astounded as to how many notes are in here. I cannot really pinpoint what stands out, all I can say is it is a very fruity, juicy scent. No sweetness like many of the recent popular perfumes nowadays, which is a plus for me. It is definitely unique, and I have not smelled anything like it in a sea of seemingly endless fruity florals. I had this in my teens and I remember liking it. I bought a new bottle 2 weeks ago for nostalgia and I just sprayed it today and was surprised at how good it still smells. Not dated at all. It is a very happy scent and makes me want to have a skip in my step. Perfect for summer and spring. Go for it, you can find it at a very inexpensive price nowadays online. Best $20 I spent!

I just obtained this in a boxed lot of perfumes yesterday. After reading the notes in this fragrance and some of the reviews here, I had to go spray it again and then go back and check my bottle a third time to make sure I was looking at the right reviews for the perfume I have! This is a very soft fragrance, sits close to the skin. If I really try hard I suppose I can smell some of the fruit or the gardenia, but what it mostly smells like is the way your skin smells after a day in the pool. Really beautiful, soft summer fragrance. Edit: Just had to come back to say that I love this even more after wearing it all day yesterday. I loved that I could smell it on myself. Usually I just don't smell my own perfume unless I place my wrist to my nose. Also, it lasts for hours! I applied about 10 AM and it was still with me when I woke up the next morning!

a very unique white floral; yes, the mimosa dominates but there is also a bitter accord in the top that rings of oakmoss or galbanum; honeysuckle and gardenia are present, too; some fruits are strong in the top that may be a combo of peach and passionfruit but they mellow and blend in quickly; for me, the pepper was present in the top, it always makes me sneeze or cough as this one did; as this dries down and comes together, it is a unique and interesting white floral that is not like anything else; I am so glad that I bought it In the final drydown, the lily, heliotrope and musk are definitely there. The fruits have disappeared. Perfect. The only thing that threw me was that bitter note in the top. It was not vetiver.

Unless this has totally changed over the years, it was a great perfume. Luckily there is the internet, so I can have it back. But it is so strange reading that it is not memorable. I used to recognize this just by smelling back in the days. But maybe now with so many florals around it might be difficult. But for me the Mimosa, the honeysuckle and the rose still bring back memories. I had a miniature of this perfume and put little by little because I didn't want to spend it all. To think that this was such an expensive perfume back in the 90s. I totally like it. Its sillage was moderate but the longevity was something else. I remember that sometimes I could smell it in my clothes even after washing

Another perfume i used to use as my signature scent in my teens. It was such a loveable juicy but dark and mysterious powdery and slightly bitter violet and cassia blast in the opening, sweetend up with sweet creamy heliotrop and jasmin, yet it settled down to a warm honeydripped, slightly spiced up rain of sweet whispering berrish accords and earthy woody hints in the background along with soft fowers. Hmmmmm, it felt so modern, sexy and special at these times. i think it is still very wearable nowdays. Stunning bottle! I purchased an empty vintage bottle of the edp just to recall the lovely scent in my memory.❤️

I have my original bottle from the 90’s and a bottle of the dry oil spray, and I still get complimented when I wear this. It’s fresh and fruity, not not in a syrupy way, but more in a fresh aquatic way. I love that there is just enough sweetness in it to keep it interesting, and so well blended that the florals sing beautifully. I tend to love pineapple and raspberry notes. Did I mention it has exceptional longevity? Great quality. Since my bottle is almost empty, time to purchase another. This one must always be in my collection.

I had a bottle of this fragrance years ago. I still have a sample of Byblos from the good ol' days. I just tried it on my wrist a few minutes ago, and boy, was I thrown back in time. I never found another fragrance like this one, ever. My fellow contributors described it better, except that I don't sense anything plasticky and has good longevity on my skin. Sadly, this fragrance is not available in my country. I tried the fragranceX website but customers complained that it's not the same juice as the original one from the 90's.

To me this perfume smells very modern, it reminds me a bit of Erba pura without being cloying. It is fruity fruity fruity and has a smooth musk, it feels like what Eden should been and I love that fragance. I'm so lucky to have found this fragrance on the flea market, I just have a miniature but it doesn't bother me because this fragrance projects a lot and lasts all day. It is quite linear, it just gets smoother as time goes by and the raspberry gets to shine a bit more. Gorgeous fragrance, I wish they didn't discontinue it.

Oh joy of Junior High School in the 80s. I still love this scent to this day, even though I don't choose to wear it anymore. I recall the fruit punch scent, along with Nautica Woman, Elysium, Calyx, and the coveted (totally un-affordable now) New West. THESE are what fruity perfumes were designed to smell like. Byblos has just enough florals in it to keep it from smelling like you spilled Kool-Aid down the front of your shirt. The only other perfume I can think of that achieves this for me is Jimmy Choo Flash.

This perfume was the first that made a lasting impression- back in my teenage years. It actually was the starter of my "career" as a perfume-lover. It was love at first sniff. The juice is perfect for summer time- it smells aquatic, floral and not too sweet. The bottle does the scent justice- I like the expressive blue. Evoking a secluded bay in Greece, you and nature in harmony, merging with the elements... In this scent I find serenity and delight...it makes me happy.

This has been a favorite of mine for decades now. It evokes pleasant memories as soon as I spray it. I've repurchased it multiple times, and I believe I will always have it in my collection. It's a beautiful scent that reminds me of water lilies and water in general; its very aquatic. I know that it lists fruity notes, but I don't get those at all. Byblos is perfect for this time of year, and I'd say that it's a safe scent for work: not loud or intrusive.

Byblos is really nice. It's a very refreshing and fruity fragrance with tropical floral notes. I definitely detect a candied mandarin scent with maybe a hint of peach. My mother loves it because it reminds her of sampaguita, a variety of jasmine that grows in the Philippines. If you like orange blossom or neroli, this might be a more fresh, sweeter variation for you to try.

I remember being gifted this in the mid-90s and being captivated by its uniqueness at that time. Woody yet aquatic, floral, earthy, green and fruity-- it was a masterpiece, and I felt like a boho goddess when I wore it. I'm unfamiliar with the reformulation, but if you can get your hands on the original, don't hesitate. Recommend. 9/10

Vintage EDP. A perfume with a lot of depth and a very well-done fruity/woody/slightly aquatic. The vetiver in the base provides contrast and prevents it from becoming too sweet. Brings to mind ancient Greece, Poseidon and the ocean depths. Rather spicy in the dry down from the pepper. Recommended for summer nights.

I was not expecting to like this fragrance. So much so that I spent four days with it just to make sure my nose wasn't fooling me. This is a cheap scent, after all. But nope. I likes it. It is THE perfect scent for a hot summer day where you want to feel fresh and clean but not overwhelmed. I plan on buying this.

For your information: this gorgeous perfume is back: I have just bought the full bottle online for less than €60 and it's still beautiful, fruity, sweet, aquatic, very modern, super persistent without being cloying.. This is way better than Erba Pura. Fully unisex: a 10/10

Beautiful Spring, Summer, Fall scent. Light, floral with a distinct white floral dominance that stays well clear of "old lady" by interesting fruity, musky and woody notes. Like a daytime, flirty and less serious Fracas.

I bought this when it was introduced and LOVED it. It has become one of my favorite perfumes. It's not over powering, I feel surrounded by pleasant scents.

Fruity & floral. A classic & must have for those on the go girly days. A smart stocking stuffer for Xmas that will not brake the bank.

The lovely Kastehelmi gave me a mini of this and I LOOOOOOVE it! I HAVE MUST get a BIG bottle of this wonderful pleasure!!!!

It took me a while to identify the cobalt blue round bottle with the weird bronze plastic top, but the name Byblos rings a bell. It's familiar from somewhere, sometime ... hopefully, maybe it'll come to me. Anyway, the perfume is new to me, no way would I ever forget such a beauty! Sweetly floral, with a touch of fruit, B. is a cheerful, lighthearted fragrance designed to brighten one's day. Very feminine and not too girly, B. can be worn by women of all ages. Honestly, I'd wear this if I was 90 years old. Who cares about age when a perfume is this beautiful? Why deny oneself a lovely experience? Life is hard enough, let's enjoy beautiful things whenever possible. (OK, enough insights for now.) According to the pyramid there are a lot of fruit notes in B., even some black currant which I usually detest. TBH I can't single out a specific fruit note, and that's fine. B. is a well blended perfume and devoid of any nasty cheap notes. Sillage and lasting power are average. B. doesn't cast its beauty far and wide, it sticks close to the skin. So glad to have found this wonderful fragrance!

I wore this in 1992/93... I was in my early 20's and remember this being the first perfume that a total stranger complemented me on and wanted to know the name of. He was an older man (in his 40's which I thought was old at the time) who wanted to buy a bottle for his wife. I tried to tell him the name but wasn't pronouncing it right, so I ended up writing it down on a scrap of paper. I haven't smelled Byblos since then, and it's been so long that it's hard to remember much about it, only that it was light, fresh and so different than the big scents I wore in the 80's. Fruity florals were new and Byblos was my first. Even then this scent was somewhat under the radar with no big ad campaign. I've been contemplating buying a bottle now but is it the same formula? The bottle shape is now more "squat" and the color of the glass has changed from turquoise to cobalt. I'll probably take a chance though because it's fairly inexpensive online (haven't seen it in the stores for years) and maybe it'll bring back some memories. :)

I will start at the drydown. It is sharp in a plasticky way but that's not to say it's not good. As long as it's not initially over sprayed. It reminds me of Pageant women...Miss Usa contestants. Blondes, Brunettes & Red-heads all alike running around backstage fussing over their hair, their makeup and their swimsuits! it's fruity, zesty, flowery, and sweet but not as innocent as most floral-fruity fragrances readily available. Lively and has certain level of sophistocation but not truly glamorous. It's rich fruitpunch!! Deep red, and thick. The opening is bright, uplifting and fast!...mellows out in the middle. Nothing's missing in this 90's fragrance for today. it was before it's time! Byblos as a new release...would shake things up a bit!! I never understood why the name Byblos for this fragrance. Should be called punch and kick!! It's different. It's very clean in the drydown when it's not over sprayed. Sillage- moderate Projection- moderate Scale1 to 10... 10

This is quite a unique fragrance. It reminds me of Mugler’s Womanity, which has a berry salty aquatic tone whereas Byblos has a fruity salty aquatic tone, which I find a bit easier and more harmonious. Womanity goes for the jugular (or the crotch, in that instance - apologies!) but Byblos merely hints at it. I like it, Byblos is interesting and different. Really a summer scent, will revisit this properly in hot weather. Well blended, difficult to hone into individual ingredients - happy yellow fruits and florals and sea water. Very playful too - but in an intelligent, not teenage way. More South Sea than the Mediterranean. Exotic without trying to be exotic. If you are a perfume connoisseur its worth investigating! There seems to be a slight difference between edt (turquoise bottle) and edp (darker blue bottle) - edp being a bit smoother, edt, surprisingly, being a bit more interesting. Its more aquatic than powdery, definitely.

After a couple of weeks of nothing but testing niche perfumes, I had an urge to go back and wear something from my old mini bottle collection. My little cobalt blue bottle of Byblos EdP dates from the time when it first came out. As far as I can tell, it smells exactly the same as it did when I first opened it. To me, this is a typical 80s style perfume, even though it came at the end of that era. It’s strong, it’s big, it’s unapologetically synthetic-smelling, and it’s pushing the boundary of what I will wear. To me it starts out smelling like violets, lilacs, lilies, melon-like green notes, and pine needles. I find it more floral than fruity, but the pine note gives it a bitter edge that makes the artificial flowers take on a character all their own. This is a fairly linear scent with moderate sillage and longevity. Although not exactly my style, I’ve liked it enough to keep it all this time and wear it occasionally.

Yikes, this smells like the '90s. I wasn't aware of this when it was out, but I really wish I had been. This to me (and I have the EDT, I read some of the comments that say the EDP is different i.e better) embodies the best aquatic fruity florals of that time. Looking at the perfumers, Ilias Ermenidis, other scents you see why this one would be considered one of the more beautiful and complex floral fruit aquatics (which sometimes get a bad rap). Except for his Calvin Klein contributions his palette seems to lean towards the woodsy, musk, animalic, and oud scents. SO Byblos by Byblos is an interesting addition to his body of work. This reminds me of crystal blue water, white sand beaches, and sun-bleached stucco homes. While I don't think I will wear it alone regularly, I will use it as a layering fragrance and keep a stash of it when I am feeling nostalgic for my youth.

di questo gioiellino possiedo la versione pre-riformulazione: quella successiva non la conosco. interessantissimo accordo fruttato e floreale, assai lontano dagli attuali profumi-tutti-uguali, richiama alla mente sentori decisamente anni 90. è giocato sulle contrapposizioni: è verde e fresco ma anche dolce e confortevole, per nulla gourmand, si inaugura con una specie di macedonia di frutta, aspra di bergamotto e dolce di mandarino, con l'aggiunta del frutto della passione, lampone e pesca. questa bella fase lentamente procede su un solido cuore floreale, in cui spicca il mughetto ammorbidito dalla mimosa e dall'iris. quindi l'assestamento su un classico muschio e vetiver. complesso, caleidoscopico, un must-have per i collezionisti.

The miniature of this perfume was part of my miniature perfume collection back in the 90s and I clearly remember the scent and the intriguing peacock color of the bottle. I still recognize the scent but I feel it either changed formulation, or my nose changed, maybe both happened. It still has a somehow plastic scent, something I remember thinking in my teens but I do recognize the marigold, pineapple and grapefruit notes, followed by honeysuckle and ylang-ylang. This was a buy initiated by a memory and I am glad I added this perfume to my collection. The perfume is made in San Marino, by the way, a unique place for a perfume to be produced, between the French, Italian and US-made perfumes I own.

This must have been massively reformulated because the notes pyramid & most reviews below aren’t describing Byblos. I wore this as a teenager and it was a fruity, floral fragrance that was highly aquatic. I’d describe it as wet, dewy fruits - sort of tropical fruits over gardenia. It always made me think of the old TV show Fantasy Island. It’s actually really unique and lovely. Other similar scents are Calyx, Pleasures, Eternity and probably a few of the Guerlain Acqua Allegorias and the Hermès Un Jardin series. I don’t know what reformulation has done to it but it used to be a pretty 90’s fruity aquatic.

I think this is a very distinctive fragrance. I can pick it out in a crowd right away. I named it on a coworker the first time she wore it even though I hadn't smelled it in at least 10 years. It was my signature scent in the late 90's, reminds me of listening to Bjork, Alanis Morissette, and the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet. It's fresh and a bit sassy. Sweet and tart, but not sugary. I can smell the grapefruit opening, which is quickly joined with honeysuckle and rose. I think of it as a fresh and bright scent, it was always a little strong on me, and lasted a long while.

I left a miniature bottle of Byblos edp from the 1990s. The scent is so unique that I could not find any replacement in the current market. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is fruity, refreshing and reminds me of colour navy blue. Quiet, yet elegance. Have a sense of serene when i wear it. I am so happy to find it available at frangranceX and ordered a 50ml edp. Let's wait for it to arrive!

I DID buy a 100mL bottle of this at a perfume store for $9.99 USD and can't believe how good I feel about it! :) I was looking for a summer floral and found it in this...the combination of peach, grapefruit, and mimosa make it fresh and distinctive in a world of super sweet fruity florals. I can't detect lily of the valley or any musk in the base. Lasted 4 to 5 hours, not bad for $10!!!

This perfume is so nostalgic for me. My mommy wore this as I grew up. It's a little mature but still youthful and pretty. It kinda smells like makeup to me? I understand the soap comments but you can look past it. It's very 90s and boho. Sillage is great and lasts for a long time too.

Juicy fruity-floral cocktail, very nice. The fruits are sweet with a light aquatic tang, and the florals are very breezy. Shines with body heat, this wouldn't be as special in cold weather. Great sillage (arms length), lasts at least 6 hrs on me. Wonderful addition to a collection.

I love Byblos! Could only buy it at Holt Renfrew when it was still sold in stores in the 90's. Fantastic, very Italian feeling fruity fresh for me! I smell strawberries, sunshine, grapefruits, a bit of chocolate, oranges, and class. Have worn for 20 yrs. Will wear for another 20.

Byblos is a fantastic rich fruity floral. On me, I smell raspberries, grapefruit, roses, and chocolate! I always wore this in the 90's, and is a luscious, juicy & ripe scent! Is the epitome of lush fruity richness! So very tasty....expect to be picked!

I wore it when i was a teen-ager...and now i've found a little bottle of this perfume yet! (30 ml) I like it again, but not as "yesterday", so I can exchange it with one of the fragrances i'm searching for (see my wishlist) :-) (J.from Italy)

Just got my new bottle today. This perfume is for day wear , fruity with out being overpowering like some scents.I used this many years ago and loved it. I work in a hospital and this fragrance is not offensive at all.

Help! I want to buy this on Amazon. The turquoise bottle not the dark blue bottle. I'm worried it will be expired/off/sour/old as it's been over 20 yrs. Has anyone here bought it from amazon? Thanks

i like, but more floral by the way is diferent any other smell before!!

I like this but can't wear it often; it's pretty but also a hyper-girly-sweet concoction that I sometimes find annoying. I might like it very much on another person rather than myself. It reminds me a little bit of Elizabeth Arden's 5th Avenue, the same kind of innocent but slightly screechy sweetness, cute but sort of bland in character. I do appreciate the attempt at honeysuckle here, it seems to be done as well as many other fragrances that cost quite a bit more. Not a bad thing if you're looking for an ultra-feminine and inexpensive fruity floral. On the plus side, this lasts much longer than average on me than most fragrances of this type. 6-8 hours later I can still smell it loud and clear.

I came across a bottle of this scent in a box lot of fragrances that I bought at auction. I knew nothing about this fragrance and had never heard of the company. The bottle appears to be one of the original scent,it's the short bottle of EDP that looks like it's wearing a big hat. The fragrance smelled pretty in the bottle,but when I dabbed it onto my wrists,it took on a life of it's own. This is the fruitiest scent I've ever smelled. I kept thinking that the fruitiness would subside, but it kept intensifying. Then a very unnatural sharp note appeared and got stronger and stronger. It was very plastic like and the whole potion started smelling like a child's cheap bubble bath or perhaps one of those play bottles of perfume that come in little girl's fake makeup kits. Finally, I had to wash it off. For 3 days I tried over and over again to wash it off. With each scrubbing, the water seemed to invigorate the smell and bring it back to life. Normally I'll try a scent at least 3 times before discarding it, but I just can't bring myself to risk another similar experience. I'll leave this fragrance to those who who enjoy it.

It's a good scent but not all scents are for personal use. Some are better purchased in oils for oil burners. Perhaps this was unique when it was first released but now the frangrance notes are commonly found in detergents (particularly laundry sheets). You will smell like clean clothes or soap, which could be great for Summer or the gym. However, this fragrance is strong enough to make others feel as if they're holding laundry sheets up to their noses. If you enjoy clean light/almost soapy fragrances I suggest the CLEAN fragrance line found at Cleanperfume.com. Clean has more modern base notes. I think some of their fragrances are also sold here. Clean pefumes are awesome year round and some of their fragrances are great with Fall layers and Winter sweaters.

I first smelled this when I was 14, at a department store counter and never forgot about it. I finally bought a tiny dark blue dab-on bottle of Byblos online a few years ago. In the bottle, this smells so divine to me. Clean yet exotic. But then I put it on my skin and within 20 minutes I'm scrubbing it off. The lily overpowers everything else on me (and I can't stand the smell of lily). Also, it reminds me of some cheap shampoo my mom always bought in the 80's. Ick. Why does this go from dreamy to disgusting for me? My husband says it makes me smell like candy -- specifically the "blocks of jelly candy covered in powdered sugar -- the kind you buy on the boardwalk and cut into slices." Oddly specific, he is.

Lovely ! All I get is gardenia and jasmine and that's very much ok by me. Edit : Original blast : very powerful and yummy but the drydown starts immediately and after 1 hour all I have left on me is a faint weird smell of laundry detergent. I used it in the nineties and remember it was gorgeous. Has it been reformulated, like so many other "golden oldies" ?

Smells nice on other people, but I hate it on me. I find it overwhelmingly fruity - and strangely, I detect mostly strawberries! There is a pleasant peppery note that lingers throughout but that alone is not enough to take the edge off the fruit notes. Quite musky when it dries down.
