Animalique

Just absolutely, staggeringly beautiful. This is a real olfactory treat. It is playful in that the first hit is almost uncontrollably heavy and your head spins in wonder, trying to make sense of the headlong citrus rush. We are used to smells that change over the course of an hour, a couple of hours, even a day and the beautiful playfulness of Animalique is that it seems to smile at your confusion and calms down almost immediately to something astonishingly serene and beautiful. Of the top notes, the bergamot is much more in evidence than the lemon after the first ten seconds and the mimosa mids are reassuringly right there. The suede is curious and the amber calms the whole thing down. There is a sweetness to it, but isn't sweet if that can make smelling sense. This was the first Byredo Ive ever tried (Doha airport last night, where you can pay with Avios which I love!) and right away you get what the brand is all about. It's not complicated, there arent heavy layers on layers and olfactory tricks and stunts here, this is just a blistering opening hit calming down to a simple and unbelievably refined scent. It’s just fine, fine, fine perfumery done exceptionally well, Animalique does lean more heavily male to my nose and is not one for an overspray marathon as I indulged in last night with the almost-too-subtle Elysium by Roja as my traveling fragrance. This is a one spray on the chest and one on the wrists, and then maybe a quick misting on the head (I have a shaved head so I can get away with this!). Go easy with it. Ten hours after putting it on I am still getting suede and some slightly bitter vanilla notes. It has serious performance, that’s for sure. The suede and the amber and the bergamot here are what makes this a compliment monster to be reckoned with. It has decent but not brash projection and sillage is above-average but as I say, not garish. If you are looking for an Ombre Leather statement to a room full of people you don't know, this is not it. But if you are looking to make a more personal statement it is a stunning, stunning thing. As anyone who has followed any of my posts on here knows, I am a newbie to high end and niche perfumery. But I see and experience very clearly Animalique as a whisper into a loving ear that raises goosebumps flocking over the skin of someone you know well. It is a peon to fragrant beauty in a delicate way that is only underlined by the fact that it is rare and intentional. There’s a preciousness to it. Animalique is a precious thing. As an office wearer this is an absolute barnstorming powerhouse of a frag I think. I cannot recommend this enough... just.... bravo. Magnifique Animalique. I am not a fragrance nerd by any means whatsoever, nor do I really know how to articulate myself properly in this field, but I like to smell nice, and I feel too strongly about this scent not to word-vomit a bit, so I made an account lol. First things first — I barely get even a *hint* of citrus in this, if any at all. So if you're looking for a fresh, citrus-y type of scent, I would steer clear from Animalique, because all *I* get from this is pure warmth. It's so *ridiculously* sexy and mesmerizing to me. Although at first I was a bit iffy about trying it due to the powderiness, it's done so tastefully (aka no grandma perfume), and it pairs wonderfully with the tobacco notes. UGH. I do agree with another reviewer about the name being a tad misleading, as it isn't exactly super “animalistic” (though the definition of the word differs based on personal perception lol), but more so elegant and controlled with a generous pinch of spice. I've been searching for a fragrance that not only matches my taste in scent but also matches my physical aesthetic, and this is the one. (I am in a long-term, fully committed monogamous relationship with the color black, and decently pierced.) It screams elegant goth to me. I wear this shit every single day, and you'd have to hold a gun to my dearly beloved cat's head to make me stop using it, because not only is it perfect to me, BUT I DON'T SMELL IT!! Walk with me here: I'm one of those folks who gets weirdly icky when smelling their own scent 24/7, and I *do* smell it for the first 20-ish minutes, but then it just fades. WALK WITH ME STILL THOUGH, I'M NOT FINISHED — because everyone *else* smells it perfectly fine. The projection is so good, and it lasts so well (on my skin), so much so that my best friend said, and I quote, “It's like your ghost is hunting our apartment for days after you've visited.” Every time I get compliments on my fragrance, I get a burst of confidence because, at this point, Animalique smells like *me* and not the other way around. I've had folks say my scent lingers on their furniture, and I'm weirdly into it. It also gets bonus points since my situationship likes it so much that he buries his face in my neck and practically inhales it so fucking hard that his head vibrates. I am also weirdly into that. It's at a sucky price point, but we must all bear the consequences of what comes hand in hand with goodness. Or whatever. All in all, if you've got a slight goth aesthetic, like smelling really fucking good, and enjoy getting complimented on it, give it a try. Shit's good.

ive been trying to get into byredo for a while now, but none of their perfumes have wowed me. This one however, oh wow... Its simplistic and straightforward but by no means boring. Theres this constant conflict between a soft sweet smooth silky waxy powder and a dry heavy asphalt-like note. Honestly thats all there is to it. thats the best way i could describe this perfume. its very comforting and very familiar but also just interesting enough to get me out this comfort zone. its warm and kind of feels like an combination of an old fashioned womens perfume layered on top of an old fashioned men's cologned without either of them overpowering eachother. Still not impressive enough to buy a full bottle even though i love the violet in this. But definitely an interesting scent EDIT: this is actually so good. Probably the first violet i dont go noseblind to easily. It keeps projecting on my skin and it does so beautifully. I might have to buy a bottle anyway... Its in the same vein as fleur de peau for me. Fdp is my all time favorite but i find it less straightforward than animalique. Thats a good thing, but i do go noseblind to it easily. Animalique is like fleur de peau’s warmer sweeter and drier sibling. Fdp has some warmth too, but it clashes more with the coldness and waxiness/fatinesd of the iris and aldehydes. Animalique is way more ‘comfortable’ and inviting in a way. Less beautiful, aloof and mysterious, more dignified, bold and inviting. Wonderful indeed, a solid 9/10 The tobacco, violet and leather play major roles. I dont pick up on the citruses, even during the first second of it touching my skin. The mimosa is handled perfectly as it can go play dough/almondy on me. Here, it adds more dewiness and a solar quality.

Ok this is definitely a standout in the byredo catalogue. I like slow dance, but the rest is too shampoo like to me. Idk why. They all smell uninspired. Animalique isnt revolutionary. But its so good. A perfume doesnt have to be revolutionary at all in my opinion, but when i see a house get lots of hype i want to understand why. And i never got it with byredo. Bal d’afrique is pleasant but doesnt offer you anything other than pleasant. Casablanca lily doesnt smell like lilies whatsoever, just a simple sweet white floral. I could go on but im not here to hate Im here to love on this. Wow. Perfectly warm without any heft. Warm like a hug. This scent is ghostly. Anything violet dominant smells ghostly to me and this is very violet forward. Then the leather... wow. Not hard and heavy at all. A very smooth soft suede that feels so good to wear. Definitely recommend for realistic violet lovers The mimosa sometimes goes aquatic and dewy, in a fresh way. As ive stated in a previous review i believe mimosa isnhard to do well and its done exceptionally here. Smells like the diptyque mimosa candle. No overdose of it at all. And it isnt always present either. It only pops out during certain moments This lasts quite long too. Or at least, i dont go noseblind to it ever. Doesnt project too much but im fine w that. Intimate seductive and dark yet smooth and soft. Not animalic tho but i dont care. Lasts about 8 hours

This starts out with a strong leather note; but it's a soft, feminine, fawn colored suede. It's not my favorite phase of Animalique, it's very pungent (as most scents are right after spraying), but it evolves quite a bit over the course of the day. It probably lasts about 9+ hours on me, which is good for Byredo. After about fifteen minutes the leather starts to quiet down and the citrus and florals start coming in, sweetening and lightening the scent. On me, this transforms the overall impression in an airy, leathery vanilla. It's sexy, classy, and confident, but very put-together and not primal or animalic. Definitely a misnomer. At the end of several hours I'm left with one of my favorite vanillas of my whole collection, but it takes a while to get there. I have to agree with another reviewer - it is a very lovely scent but wanting to smell like a fancy handbag is just not very "me". The leather overwhelms at first, and lingers a little too long to pretend it's really anything other than that. That being said, it's probably my second favorite of the whole discovery set and I may still get a full bottle.

On reviewer says one spray is nuclear and another says it doesn’t last at all. I love the subjectivity of fragrance and how each persons experience can be so different. That said, I love Animalique. It’s an ethereal Suede and Mimosa combo with a soft tobacco lingering in the background. The Mimosa is done so beautifully here, lending sweetness alongside the suede, and of course Byredo’s signature violet. While not the star it smoothes out the suede and tobacco making it feel more elevated. There’s an airiness to it as well, so it doesn’t feel heavy like some other leather forward fragrances. 100% my favorite from the house, and my first bottle purchase from the brand. While I didn’t like Bal D’Afrique or Mojave Ghost, some of the most hyped from their line, I’m excited to sample some of their other offerings. Gypsy water is one of the ones deserving of the attention, but Animalique is truly a sleeper gem in the community. It’s unique but still very wearable, non offensive but not a typical mass appealing formula, and that makes me appreciate it even more.

The first impression was “oh it’s smells like a lighter version of black phantom by Killian”. Genuinely getting some nutty-earthy-sweet scent. It’s definitely a stand out type of fragrance, on a long lasting side. Edit: It has similarly with Lancôme La nuit tresor A LOT, SERIOUSLY A LOT! I own both and by smelling from cap it’s hard to tell the difference I get mimosa, but surely don’t get bergamot (unless it’s what makes it lighter, less smokey than black phantom). But not complaining for that at all, as I wasn’t expecting bergamot by reading the name of fragrance. It’s sexy, moody in a way it will set you up for being bold, seductive, playful and confident. Good for night time. P.S. when I just unboxed the fragrance it was already purple-ish (liquid) , while at the store it was on a yellowish side and the first second after spraying it gave disgusting wasabi sent. Not sure what that was or if it’s the batch issue, but the one I got is amazing and already looking well macerated.

When I purchased this fragrance, I immediately got a call from the mercedes-benz dealership about my 3 maybachs ready to pick up.I didnt even have to buy them! So that was nice of them, I picked all 3 up with my friends.Then I randomly found a set of chanel tennis rackets on the passenger seat of one of my new cars. We then decided to go have a few games on the private court. Afterwards I had to stop by the store to pick up a brand new pair of air force ones because I just had creased the ones I had on from playing a few rather aggressive games of tennis. Anyway, as soon as I got back home I washed my face and then rolled a honey bourbon blunt. I grabbed some nerds clusters as well as some welches fruit snacks (They need to give me a deal I just promoted this sh*t) and made my way down to the studio where I lit some candles with one of the most expensive lighters in the world then proceeded to make a few bangers. Sensational.

A musky, leathery amber with a dusting of vintage floral powder and a punchy gasoline edge that takes it from "nice and wearable" to "really, extremely cool." The structure suggests a traditionally masculine amber scent, if that traditionally masculine amber scent were being worn by somebody who's sweating slightly as they pump their gas at a neon-lit small-town gas station on a warm summer night. As it dries, it sweetens up without getting heavy or sticky. There's a lot of contrast between the top and base notes executed well here, so it's exciting to smell, but it doesn't come across as excitable or muddled. Instead, it's very sure of itself, a little mysterious, and just complex enough while staying quite versatile. I'd call it completely unisex and could see it rocking as a transitional-weather scent. I just got my sample a week ago and am already plotting for a decant if not a full bottle.

Animalique is an alluring neutral scent, a complex plain. It encompasses you in a soft, warm, comforting embrace. It's clean but not in the laundry or cleaning product way. It is clean in a pure human way, where you feel like even your insides are clean. It instantly calms me, makes me feel minimalistic, light, and ridded of any impurities. First smelling it I get a slightly rubbery scent, not in the tire way more so polly pocket clothing rubbery. Then I smell clean suede mixed with the sweet powdery smell of a cats fur. Then hit with a crisp leather car seat, reminding me of the smell of getting in someones new car, where they pride themselves in keeping it spotless. Based of the notes I wouldn't naturally pick this fragrance, but after smelling it and having the pleasure of wearing it, i've discovered the absolute beauty that is Animalique.

I sprayed some while I was in the mall before coming to work and as soon as I passed by a coworker's desk he asked me what perfume I had on because it smelled fantastic. Animalique is a white powdery floral with leather, warm and clean at the same time, a soothing and comforting fragrance that I can't get enough of. Longevity is average, 6-8 hours on me and even more on clothes, sillage strong for the first hour and decent afterwards; I keep getting wiffs of it throughout my day. PS: I eventually added this to my collection because I needed a 'clean' -yet not cold or citrusy- every day fragrance, since most of my perfumes are heavy, spicy ones :) I get used to it and can't smell it after the first hour, but I have people at work complimenting me on it several hours later.

I fucking love this. I hated it at first, HATED it. It smelled like new car to me, which evoked memories of getting headaches in cars, so I avoided it. But then I tried it on, and I loved it. Synthetic suede in the best way - it smells like freshly treated leather. Not clean nor unclean, somehow. Something salty about it also, like a fresh oceanic essence. It doesn't smell very sweet to me at first, just like fresh leather, though I can see the violet/mimosa. When it dries down, though, and I sniff it on my wrist at the end of the day, there's a kind of clean, pure sweetness. A light refreshing vanilla. Not at all gourmand. I don't know how to describe it, but I literally find it addicting. Clean, synthetic, almost clinical leather, the perfect juxtaposition.

I thought we are faced once again with a misleading name and concept, because Animalique didn't call out my animalistic, wild side, but my rich, tasteful Scandinavian alter-ego (if only there was such a thing.) At first seemed completely at odds with its name, especially with that concept, and the lovely musky sweetness it turned into on my skin. ( At least in the north wind and snowy mountains.) But now, in the Central European spring, it's starting to work on me! I can feel the suede notes much better, the florals are sharper, it's a much less innocent than I used to smell it. All it took was a bit of sunshine and 15 degrees and, if not a Sauvage, but an exciting, long-lasting perfume with good sillage and proportions. LOVE

As other reviews mention, I don't pick out a lot of citrus in here, but I'm sure bergamot balances out other notes and blends well to brighten up the composition a bit. It's my favourite from Byredo. I've been thinking a lot about getting it, and I finally pulled the trigger. It's like a younger sister of Babycat, which is my signature. It's less sweet and pronounced, more closer to skin, but also within a similar realm of suede forward fragrances. Absolute banger! Musky, leathery, warm, classy and with a slight touch of powdery florals. I want to bury my nose in my own skin when I have it on. I do smell it on myself throughout the day but I don't think it projects all that much

ooh its so good. first time i sprayed it i wasnt a fan. its quite pungent when you first spray it but settles down quickly into this powdery, suede mix. i dont get much citrus or florals. it really is kind of primal. it literally smells like i wanna roar and rip my clothes off in a sexy way. the projection is surprisingly really good, and i almost prefer the smell from far away when i get whiffs of it as i move. its more masculine but after a while all the suede dulls down and it smells mostly like amber and vanilla which is really my only woe. lasts insanely long (whole day with good projection), considering its byredo. this is white suede’s more mature cousin.

Wow. A flawlessly self-contained, industrial-chic leather-suede with a smoky cigarette penumbra that (on me) only reveals its soft floral sweetness as it dries down. Very cool sillage. Agree the name is a misfit - no animalics here for me either - but I like this a lot nonetheless. Great for layering, too, to tone down overly diva-esque florals/spices. Could become an everyday wear for me. Similarities: in the Byredo style but for me most like the leather note in Arquiste's Almond Suede. I'm not familiar with many Tom Fords, so can't comment on similarities to White Suede, Ombre Leather etc. EDIT: also smells of new office carpet, in a good way

This is what I put on before I go to a concert or somewhere else I want feel like the coolest lady in the room. It smells like a cool girl's room, with a bunch of funky art on the wall and a leather jacket she thrifted sitting on her bed. I have worn it out to the bar and the girls always give me compliments. It is more feminine but has a masculine pull with the leather and suede. I thought it had great longevity. I see it as a great alternative to a simple floral in the spring time as a night scent, it has more edge. I adore this and want a full bottle so badly.

I went to Byredo a week ago to test Bibliothèque, but I didn’t like it, it smelled too fruity to me. However, I sprayed Animalique on my other wrist and was instantly enchanted, or more accurately, caught off guard, because I never thought I’d fall this hard for a fragrance. I feel like I’ve finally found my signature scent. It’s incredibly cozy and inviting, this is probably what hugging a lover smells like. Yesterday, I purchased a 50 ml bottle; my only issue is that the sillage is very intimate.

There is something magical in this one. I smelled it for the first time and was immediately intrigued. Something in that scent card just clicked for me. I sprayed it on and went about my business. Later that night, I was going to bed and caught a whiff of it on my skin. It was warm and cozy, but not too sweet. There is a that touch of gourmand, and it is balanced so well with the leather and mimosa. I purchased the big bottle soon thereafter. I haven’t worn another perfume since.

My best friend wears this and it smells SO GOOD! It’s rich, suede-y, and delicious. I’m glad the projection and longevity is so incredible cause it’s like the ghost of my best friend haunts our apartment for days after she’s been visiting. HOWEVER! The greatest mystery of our lives is where the hell are the bergamot/lemon top notes???? I cannot for the life of me smell them. Not that it matters cause it still smells amazing but yeah don’t go expecting citrus with this one.

Really beautiful and wearable. 10 minutes in -after the initial spray, and as the top notes faded a bit - it very much reminds me of Jo Malone's Mimosa and Cardamom , but with some more warmth and depth - more of a suede-like feel. I don't find it particularly "animal," but soft and warm. Could be a skin scent, and/or signature. I think it leans a little more traditionally feminine, but if I smelled it on a more masculine-leaning person, it would still smell great.

This is SUCH a sexy fragrance. It’s somewhat dark? Maybe from the suede & tobacco. But also a playful element to it which comes from the lemon and mimosa. Not a loud or overwhelming scent at all, but a confident presence to it. Also has moderate wear time on me. It’s not a challenging fragrance but I’m always smelling it figuring out what I love about it so much. Always toying around with when to wear it and with what; but I’m always coming back for more.

Bought a 1ml sample and immediately knew it was bottle worthy upon first spray. The accords listed at the top are spot on: Powdery, violet, tobacco, and suede! I hate a hardcore leather fragrance and this has the perfect dose of it. You’ll definitely standout wearing this, and performance is amazing especially for a Byredo fragrance. I can’t put my exact finger on it but in the air, it smells so good following me around. Can’t wait to get a bottle soon!

To me, this smells like lipstick and stockings. The kind of woman who walks into a room with confidence and never has to announce herself—sexy, self-assured, and a little mysterious. Despite the name, I kept waiting for more of an animalic, untamed edge. It’s seductive, but polished rather than feral. However after trying the sample it’s stayed on my mind and I’m considering making it the staple in my collection for alluring winter nights.

My favorite Byredo! It's musky, powdery with a light leathery accord. Extremely versatile. When you put it on, you expect it to sit closer to your skin. But I actually get compliments on Animalique all the time from people entering the room, and i'm by no means a heavy sprayer. so it does project. Like the other reviewers mentioned, this is not animalic at all. So don't let the name steer you away from trying this phenomenal fragrance.

The opening feels somewhat crude, but after a while it improves a lot, turning creamy, rich and slightly naughty. Very soft suede and amber dominate, warming up and staying persistent, with faint florals in the background that perhaps create the creamy note, which feels a tiny bit cheap. It starts off rough, but the drydown is much better, soft suede, plenty of amber, and a creamy undertone. Very strong and very long lasting.

I loved this scent—the bright intense opening, the suede-y floral middle— until the drydown, when something harsh hijacks the whole dreamy experience. It eventually gives up the siege, but all that remains is a whispery, generic amber. Will try again but may have lost hope. Addendum: after several hours drydown is very soft, but pretty; the tobacco arrives. UPDATE: Reader, I bought a bottle. Will wrestle further.

It’s powdery, creamy, warm, with leather in the background. Makes me feel like I’m stroking smooth animal fur. Beautiful for colder months. I’ve had my bottle for about 4 months. The liquid has turned from clear to light purple, but it smells the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if it contains small amount of molecules that cause colour change common in vanilla fragrances.

Okay so this scent is my personal crack. It smells insanely good. Like so good it would concern me to use as my daily wear because it's almost distractingly good. It's honestly pretty hard to pick out any of the specific notes in this fragrance- I'm mostly getting like a really complex suede. It smells a bit sweet to me but not in a candy way. It's real hot girl shit.

I am so obsessed with this one. I resonate so much with it, that I would gladly call it my signature. I love that it is also a leather perfume, but so much more, so sexy and easy to wear. It seems a disco perfume from the 90’s, so carefree and a little funky and naughty, without actually smelling retro, just a mix of hairspray, leathers, sweet perfumes and fun.

Sweet tobacco and suede, perfectly balanced with florals, amber, and maybe a touch of vanilla in the drydown. Intriguing and sexy - I was mesmerized from the first moment, and I don't think I've ever gotten this many compliments on a perfume (women in particular seem to love it). My husband wears it as well, it's beautiful on him too. Currently my favourite.

Genuinely one of the most interesting, beautiful, "I have my life together" scents I've ever smelled. This smells mature, yet youthful. Hits you with that suede, which is lighter than harsh leather, but brings you in with that gentle, damp, sweet musky marigold. The bergamot smells luxurious, bitter, and sweet. It just makes you smell clean. F*cking 9.9/10.

I’ve only sampled this in-store so far, but it left a lasting impression. Honestly, it’s the one fragrance I can’t stop thinking about, it’s just so beautiful and unique. My wife wasn’t a huge fan, but that’s ok. This could easily be someone's signature scent. I need to grab a decant for further testing, it's my favourite from the brand so far.

Testing my sample; smells like a powdery skin cream, warm and musky violet with a hint of sweet, dries down to a musky, your-skin-but-better suede, keeps warm. Definitely in the realm of TF's White Suede. Sits at arms' length, I think spring or autumn is best because it needs the right amount of heat to shine. Definitely full bottle worthy.

forgive my brag but i scored a full 100ml of this on ebay for $150. this scent is so alluring and sensual and the dry down is absolutely glorious. im not usually a leather/suede girl but the suede here is creamy and addictive. my friend wears it and i cannot stop myself from telling her how good she smells every time.

Like the name says, this perfume is ANIMALIC!!! I think I've never smelled something like this before in my life. It can be worn day and night, But I prefer it on spring time. This has become my signature perfume, and it is a big compliment getter. Out of all Byredo perfumes, this one is ahead of all the others.

Such a comforting scent. Very floral and clean like fresh bed sheets almost. Light and airy suede that doesn't offend. Sure, the name doesn't really fit, but the scent is intriguing nevertheless. It leans a little more feminine but I've come to terms with that and I can't imagine getting rid of this bottle.

I have never smelled a creamier and smoother suede. I tested it on my skin and clothes and the sweater was smelling for the next 3-4 days, I couldn’t take my nose away from it. It makes me think of a cloudy afternoon walk wearing a suede jacket and a hot cocoa in my hands. Cozy perfume and lasts so long!

The scent of this perfume brings back memories of an old fragrance that eludes my grasp. It's reminiscent of the era when Ghost perfume was popular, harkening back to the classic perfumes of the 1990s. I'm trying to pinpoint the specific fragrance it resembles from that time, but it's just out of reach.

Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet but, Animalique CLOSELY resembles the discontinued Bvlgari Black in the drydown. The opening is more heated plastic, but during the mid and dry down it's uncanny. If you loved that frag and want something in the same strata, this is worthy of a try.

i adore this. it is truly so very far out of my budget but i love her so bad. its so sultry!! even the powder dry-down isnt boring or one note, it still carries out the sultry vibe just way more toned down. everytime i walk past a mecca i spray the sample and pretend shes mine at last

Another stunning Byredo tale, this one is about the jungle: beginning with fresh leafy greens at the top of the tallest trees, shifting down through the sweet floral boughs and then at the third hour softening into the gentle suede leather of the animals at ground level. Stunning ❤️

i love this perfume so much, one day i was in harvey nichols meeting a friend and then he was telling me to check animalique from byredo and how much it will blow your mind, and from the first sniff indeed i was like WOW!! after couple of weeks i finally bought it im so happy

I generally don’t like leathery fragrances, but suede is much softer. In this perfume, the suede is in beautiful harmony with the violet and the mimosa. We get a lovely, feminine scent with good longevity. Despite its name, fortunately there’s nothing animalic in it.

almost aldehydic in how intense the sillage is on the opening. the suede/violet combination cuts through immediately, smelling like leather cleaner or poppers for those who are familiar... reminds me of stercus by orto parisi in that respect

So different reviews and impressions. Somebody is right - at the beginning, it does smell like gasoline :D but in the end, I am completely in love this this fragrance because for me it gives the feeling of warmth, cozy, and sunny.

I was very surprised by this. I didn’t have high hopes for this one as the scent profile didn’t sound appealing to me, but wow. The leather is done in such a clean and soft way. I need this for my autumn trays.
