Bullion

The opening is plum so immediately I love it. I'm biased (usually) when plum is a main note. Although sincere, being biased towards a note means that I'm probably going to be overly positive for this review, so take it with a grain of salt. This is a sweet, beautiful, grown up, sexy plum fragrance with a little leather and a little bit of spice. Later on you smell some musk and wood as well, but it's not cloying. Well blended, very yummy, and perfectly unisex. There is really nothing left to say except that I want a full bottle now! longevity is moderate on me, as is the sillage. Normally this would bother me, but not when something smells this good. Attention: I will swap my MOTHER for a bottle of Bullion! lol. She's short, doesn't take up much space, and vacuums a lot....not so good at cooking but we're talkin' you will have the cleanest house on the block! ok, just kidding....I think

Overall: 8/10 Here's Why: SO promising and it nearly delivers! This starts out surprisingly similar to Creed Royal Oud, albeit more fresh and outdoorsy. Consider this a daytime Oud fragrance with a soft peppery background. The Leather is non-pronounced to my palate and is hardly there, The fruit smell that is present is more dense and jammy as opposed to citrusy. The drydown is ALL musk - linear and un-relenting. Leaving a soft veil. Easy to wear and hardly unlikable, this little gem could use a lesson in proper leather - but what remains is still easy to wear and wonderfully niche. Priced a little too steep for the quality of this, however, as sillage tends to be on the lesser side.

This fragrance is a masterpiece and It's addictive! When my tiny sample went out i felt really empty, like a big, important part of my life was missing. I bought two new decants as fast as i could and next time i'm aming for the full bottle because i cant live without this one. The name "Bullion" is such a genious, wellsuited name. It's like a brew of some kind; hot and sweet, well blended. It's mysterious but yet safe and soothing. It's very fruity with the obvious plum but for me; who usually dosent really like sweet, fruity notes, this is pure heaven sent gold in a bottle.

Plum and pepper opening. It tilts towards feminine, sort of like opium or playing with the devil. Slowly it morphed to a more subdued scent, woody with a floral undertone. Sandalwood is prominent but not loud or obnoxious. And surprisingly the osmanthus makes its apparition, joining the woods with the juicy, tender, slightly sweet scent of this flower. My biggest fear with this perfume is longevity. Silage seems to be medium. If you haven't tried yet or are thinking about buying it, I recommend and encourage you to get a sample and don't jump on the first impression.

Been searching for Byredo as it isn't sold in Bahrain. Had a sniff at Abudhabi airport and it smelled fruity and smooth. Even though I'm not very much into fruity scents, I was still drawn to it because I got a sense of the complexity of the blend and got a sense of the leather in there so i bought it instantly. Although, I must admit, I was close to buying the accord oud or oud immortel before convincing my self that this will be a nice addition to the family. In any case, this is a unique and a masterfully blended scent and I give it an 8/10

Why oh why has this been discontinued? Obviously, I have caught the last chance to buy some samples of it, but when I wanted to purchase the whole bottle, I couldn't anymore :( This could be my signature scent, I cannot even describe it in details why (and maybe this is unnecessary now, you cannot buy it anyway), but I love it so much. It is perfect plum scent with a character that suits my skin perfectly. I own Bibliotheque, which is also great, but this one was the original champion. So alive, so special. Saving my 0.5ml sample obsessively.

Bullion is a very well blend I just love it. The plum and the leather are the dominant accords and together with the woods, musk and the flowers I get a feeling of a verry expensive cognac. For me it feels more masculine than unisex but most of the ppl who smelled it on me says that they feel it's unisex. I just did the mistake and bought the oil, the longevety is bad, very bad (1-2hrs on my skinn) and the sillage are even more bad. The spray is a lot better.

“It’s a combination of places, food and, most, importantly people.” His spicy aroma finds its roots in a mixture of pink pepper, magnolia sandalwood, leather accord and sensual musks. Like all the other Byredo fragrances, Bullion is a unisex and I must confess this is one of the best ever made by Byredo, it is very well done. If you have not liked Byredo so far, give it another chance, try on Bullion, maybe you can change your mind.

Oh I’m in love. What a seductive, delicious, enchanting juice. Gorgeous soft plum and peach tea osmanthus with a naughty animalic, metallic underbelly. You can really imagine a gold bullion. I wonder why it was discontinued? The Osmanthus abs was too expensive? I just snagged a travel roller and the oil is heaven. Animalic in the best possible way. I can’t stop sniffing my arm! Help!

An excellent Byredo, one of the top five of this house. It balances fruit and wood in such a delicate way, using leather as a kind of glue between the two, quite a remarkable thing. It lasts a long while, turning quite deliciously sweet but not sticky or like candy. An easy wear for men who want a gourmand that is not over the top but still very elegant and refined.

Gorgeous leathery plum-skin osmanthus and musk. It is so close to Narciso Musc Noir, which is not discontinued or hard to find like Bullion. Both lightly animalistic, and perfect for fall, second skin scents.

I love it,creamy oud,not listed...That said, it smells exactly the same as Fredric Malle, Promise with less longevity and projection, it honestly is the same thing, of course this came first.

I really love this one and the oil made me so disappointed that I decided to buy the spray. Much much better sillage and longevety. I think that Bullion is Byredo's best one.

Plum, leather, cognac - just wonderful!

One of the weirdest things I've tried in while. The first opening was syrupy sweet combo of plum and osmanthus, soon leather appeared making this a weird mix indeed. I find leather in Bullion to be very dirty and smoky. Unfortunately I do not get any spices, but nevertheless this a very unique combination. Even though plum makes this very sweet and feminine, the leather and woody background makes this more suitable for a man, so I am very tempted to see how this works on a male skin. In overall - could be easily worn by both sexes and should be a "must try" for every lover of leather note in perfumery as this, in my opinion, is a completely new take on this note. And a good offering from Byredo.

Byredo Bullion is an odd one, no doubt. It involves the intersection of several different genres but doesn't seem to take on one in particular. It's fruity with plum, floral with magnolia and osmanthus, and woody with sandalwood, not to mention the leather. To my nose, the plum stands out the most, as it's fruity first, and the rest of the other attributes are featured in relative harmony with one another. Performance is decent, wearability is year-round and versatile, though I don't regard it in very serious terms, and it's surely quite unisex. I just find myself mostly puzzled by it and while slightly drawn to it, not inclined remotely to buy it. 7 out of 10

This one was a blind buy for me. First when I applied it on my wrist, I was confused cuz my nose was so familiar with this smell and I decided to figure out which scent smells like this. After 15 minutes of hard thinking I found it, Costume National Scent Intense. TRY IT YOURSELF!! If I didn't have Costume National, I would have liked Bullion but now that I have CN this one is so unnecessary and not worth the money I paid for it.

I'm pretty fond of this one, especially in the oil concentration, which allows it to act as more of a skin scent. Plums and leather have been paired before, but this one has real brio. Buttery leather and billows of incense smoke, all simmering beneath an ultra juicy, dusky, purple plum note. A bit funky, but elegant. I get around four to six hours of wear from the oil, but apparently I'm in the minority. That's a shame.

Testing my sample; this is a plum tincture infused with peachy osmanthus spread over leather. Gets noticeably woodier and muskier on my skin as it dries down. Reminds me a bit of Plum Japonais' opening. Autumn and winter, it's very strong off my skin but my little 5ml decant is quite old so that may be a factor. I'd consider a full bottle for this, but it's discontinued, a shame.

Starts off with smooth, milky plum that goes strong for a while. After about 3 hours, a peppery sandalwood took over. Bullion is very nice: distinctive, complex, deep, but not too deep. Longevity for me is about 6-7 hours, and fairly close to the skin. It smells a lot like Lubin Korrigan. Great perfume!

This beauty has been discontinued by Byredo, which makes finding a twin of this osmanthus, leather, plummy treat at Generic Perfumes all the more special. Fruity but not sweet; dark, moody and luscious.

It's nice to spot a well done fruity opening, and the plum note is magnificent in this one - it's very juicy and lush, moderately sweet. A floral accord of, I suppose, magnolia, joins it, along with, to me, the star of this fragrance - a dirty, animalic leather note with a solid amount of, well, not really clean musk alters the scent to a whole new direction. Now this fragrance has two different tones that would be equally strong if not for the dirtiness of leather, whose animalic vibe makes it more dominant because of its nature. That being said, my experience with Bullion is somewhat strange to me. It's like plum-flower accord strikes me once, then I get slapped with a pungent leather-musk with double the duration and strength. I'd say it feels like I have two different perfumes at the same time, on the same spot. Later, the base of the fragrance is woody and musky, but the heart of it lasts the longest and actually defines the scent. This perfume has solid longevity, about six or seven hours maybe. It is close to the skin, but with occasional whiffs that are perceptible to others in a fair range. It is an unusual scent, sure, but can be worn in various occasions and places. To be honest, I expected a lot from this one. It had a fair share of reviews augmenting its originality - something that usually lacks when it's about Byredo. And while I really found a rather unique scent, I cannot say I love it. The thing is, I'm really not in love with too much leather of this type - almost raw and savage. There are times when I like it, sure, but sometimes it seems too much for me. Considering it's a chalenging composition, it maybe should be that way. Still, it gets a high mark from me because of all the good sides, while putting aside my not-so-defined taste, and because it's arguably the best Byredo perfume. 8.75/10

I must be hearing things, or rather, smelling things. Other things if other reviews here are anything to go by. Because unfortunately, Bullion fell flat on it's glassy face for me. It started off with that hyper-annoying 'watery, non-sweet' fruit accord. Yes plums but,,, weird. Then came the bombshell; something hideous akin to a rubbered, pungent hid of an animal. Really? Is this your Genius 'leather-fruit' take on the Tuscan leather bandwagon Byredo?? It was terrible. Powdery, unsettling and after 3 minutes, downright nauseating. A dilute fruit punch spill in a tanning factory, with some grease leakage too. I simply grew sick, very fast. It's loud too, well of course, why not right? I was hoping a more streamline take featuring a pleasant, apricotty-plum with a gentle and delicious suede appearing later in the fragrance. Puhh! Fat chance of that, you'll have more chance of finding a good Lacoste perfume than hoping for goodness with this one(!) Seriously disappointing from Byredo, sorry folks! My rating: 4/10. Quality: 6/10.

Weird sweet-and-savory gourmand. To those who can't smell the leather... I think I've found it. It's being stewed with the plums. I get a strong butter note, which does nothing to help the situation. A couple of reviewers have mentioned indolic notes, for which I have a low tolerance. If you're a fan of a particularly vegetal funk, you might have better luck with this.

I remember this now - I tried it. I was excited because I like Byredo a lot and was super interested in the idea of a plum fragrance - I remember being really disappointed. Skin chemistry perhaps... I'd like to try again but... they discontinued it. Maybe they agreed with my first assessment.

Man, I was thrilled that i managed to get a decant since Bullion is discontinued, and it was just disappointing. I'm usually neutral towards leather notes, but in this one... it's just a big no. It fully ruins the perfume for me unfortunately.

So far this is the best Byredo fragrance that I've tried. I'm not too impressed with this brand, I think that it's overhyped and, for a niche house, many of its offerings are simply insufficiently interesting to me. Yet Bullion is a cool one. :) Its main ingredients are plum, pink pepper and leather, with some apricot-y osmanthus and a very faint white musk in the drydown. Fortunately, the fact that plum is the star protagonist here doesn't mean that the scent is overly sweet. Unlike some very sweet plums out there (ranging from Indult Isvaraya and TF Plum Japonais to Jimmy Choo Fever and Marc Jacobs Decadence etc.), this plum here is more boozy than sweet. It smells like - schnapps, or any other similar fruity-alcoholic beverage. The leather note is quite dusty and severe, yet the addition of pepper lightens things up and makes this fragrance sparkle. The scent is perfectly unisex and projects very strongly for the first 3-4 hours; after that it turns into a soft skin scent. I still think that it is too expensive for what it offers, but at least I can detect some creativity in it.

To me Bullion smells like spicy vegetable broth with sweet dried fruits. It's very strange and unique. It's a kind of scent I like to sniff now and then, but I could never wear it. The dinner-ish note makes me smell like I've been cooking all day and forgot to shower afterwards. Another reason why I don't wanna buy a full size bottle of this is the lack of longevity. On my skin this scent lasts only 1 1/2 - 2 hours, max. I did expect to smell the leather in this one. Everyone speaks so highly of the leather note, but I don't smell leather at all in Bullion. Must be my skin chemistry, I guess. But it's weird because my skin usually brings out leather in other leather scents. Ah well... It's a fascinating scent, it does smell good in a weird way, so I'm glad I have a sample of it. I will keep it in my sample collection, to enjoy when I wanna smell something truly strange and weirdly gourmand-ish.

I am not someone who thinks people should smell like fruit. So I was surprised to find this one quite lovely and very special. It reminded me of Amouage Interlude, especially in the middle. It's interesting how our perception of chemicals is influenced by the notes the perfumer lists. Because of the connection I'm making with Interlude I smell Immortelle strongly which is a listed note in Interlude but not here. What I enjoy about this one is how pleasant, persistent and restrained this is. I put it on in the morning, got whiffs all day and woke up still smelling it, so that I was reluctant to shower. The thing was though, it was never overbearing or intrusive. A nice trick. I decided to do a side-by-side with Interlude but wound up scrubbing the Interlude because it was just too much. I'm definitely going to try more of this line.

I'm not sure how Byredo have managed to recreate the hedonistic atmosphere of an exotic bazarr, but that's exactly where I'm transported to when wearing this scent. Talk about taking a trip to an Eastern paradise in a bottle. Bullion opens up as a sweet, spicy and heady mix of plum, pink pepper and leather, although it's the sandalwood and musk that gives the whole fragrance a unique kick. The fragrance seems to alternate over time on my skin between sweet spice and woodsy notes. Reasonable sillage (it will get you noticed but won't knock people over) and longevity is about 5-6 hours. I think a man or a woman could easily wear this scent. I understand that Bullion is only available to purchase in the Middle East, so I shall cherish my sample from the Perfumed Court!

Such an interesting bullion of fruit wood and leather. I find the leather quite strong, whereas others have a hear time finding it. So I’m guessing this is a subjective thing. When I got on to thread the reviews I was like they are all right on. I love to smell this but don’t know if I’d buy it for me, a woman who loves masculine fragrance. I can’t stop smelling my wrist thoug so I’m not decided yet. I hat fruit but this plum is sooooo intriguing. Maybe less leather would be good for a woman but I’m gonna try it on my man and see how things pan out. I love this house and their unique fragrances. Really I’ve smelled my wrist probably 50 times since I put it on. The fistful of money review is totally spot on although this is way better than that sounds.

Bullion by Byredo is possibly the most atypical Byredo so far. It still shows a remarkably synthetic edge but it's so nicely blended to result perfectly balanced and "in tune". My reading is: Part Daim Blond (the apricot-osmanthus-suedey facets), part Chambre Noir (the leathery-plummy-sandalwood), part Boxeuses (the plummy-woody notes), part Cuir Amethyste (the sweetish fruity leather). Add to this the good side of Tuscan Leather (the saffrony-leathery aspect) and lay it down on a thick, dark and deep woody base. Potentially overwhelming yet so incredibly balanced. Good sillage, great lasting power. Probably not my type of fragrance but etremely well done and accomplished. Thumbs up! Rating: 8/10

This is an extremely well-done scent in the Woody-Spicy family. It takes about half an hour before it settles on my skin but the scent in that stage smells very polished, warm, and nice. I think the main players are a refined leather note and a fruity-floral nectar, supported by a team of woody-spicy notes. The scent in dry down is very well balanced and smells very pleasant and sensuous to some extent. I have several perfumes in this genre so I won't add this one to my wardrobe. But I would suggest trying it to anyone who is interested in a refined composition around above notes.

The drydown on this is identical to Stéphane Humbert Lucas' 777 Generation Homme. How uncanny, why spend the couple hundred on the 50 mL Extrait haute concentrée of Generation Homme when Bullion can be had for a fraction of the cost and you get to double the mL. Performance is very good, and I'm working from a sample. I already own most of the 777 collection, full bottles. I am slowly working my.way through the Byredo stuff. Thus fsr, I own full bottles of Mojave Ghost, Green, and want 1996 + M/Mink. Looks like I am buying Bullion sooner or later, too. ciao

ah da boullion!.....this stuff is great......never have smelled somethin like this concoction before.....i would also use the word strange to start to describe this......overall its mossy musk that stays especially on your skin but i detect much more to this....if ya can get a sample try it ...its darn near impossible to come across in da states n mucho dinero!but im blown away......reminds me of this old headshop oil called black magic i use to burn in the 90s...special stuff for sure 9/10

I have a bottle of this with full presentation for sale. For me this is a rich blend of fruit and leather. The quality of the leather is what sets this fragrance apart. It's dry, it has this ever slight sweetness to it and it smells authentic. The musk and pepper just add a little bit of dimension to the composition. The smell is rich without being overly loud or cloying.

@scorpiosheep: No, it's not called Buillion. What makes you think that? It's called Bullion, as it says in the picture. This used to be a limited edition and exclusive to the middle east so I am happy to announce that this little jem is now available in Byredo stores and counters world wide. Yay!

Try layering Bullion with Flowerhead. The latter's white-floral notes take the edge off of Bullion's animalic and leather accords. At least on me, the whole thing dries down to a subtly green suede and leather mix, making your fall or spring night out all the more intoxicating.

This reminds me of that time I was walking through the woods and a troll, herbivore troll, jumped out and took a deep breath and blew all over me. Strange breath of something that just snacked on twigs and maybe a berry. Small hint of his leather wear.

I almost love this sweet leather and fruit concoction, but it has an indolic undercurrent I can't work with. If you don't mind indoles, do give it a try, it's quite lovely.

This one is discontinued, but luckily Perris Monte Carlo has a carbon copy of Bullion - Absolue d'Osmanthe (the EdP version!)
