Mojave Ghost Absolu

Mojave Ghost Absolu is definitely up there for the house of Byredo, creating a realistic, sweet melon scent that is unlike any other. I recently visited the Byredo store in search of the infamous Bal d'Afrique, but was shocked to find that Mojave Ghost Absolu resonated with me more. The opening lays out a strong, sweet floral/melon mix with a very faint spice in the background. It dries down to a bright and bubbly melon drink type scent, with the high concentration making it so it not only projects well in the air, but lasts forever on skin. It's light and very pleasant, a very unique fragrance to say the least. This is definitely a warmer weather star that leans a little more on the feminine side, with the sweet florals giving it that sense. However, Byredo tends to overdo their fragrances from time to time, with Mojave Ghost Absolu possibly being in the suspect line-up for this trend. Its overly-sweet scent profile could be headache-inducing for some but also extremely pleasing to others. The dry down neutralizes the sweetness to an extent, but is still the main component of this fragrance, and what makes it so good. Overall, the refreshing sweet melon scent combined with its airiness and strong DNA, Mojave Ghost Absolu keeps itself in the top three in my opinion for the Byredo house. It's unlike anything I have smelled before, topping the other melon and floral scents I have smelled by adding a pleasing, hyper-realistic sweet melon done to perfection. Over time, it begins to lean into the sweetness and melon that it is praised for, staying true to the hype and deserving a high rating. Edit: Mojave Ghost Absolu is my most recent pick-up and has probably taken first place in my fragrance collection. Mojave Ghost is a refreshing melon/floral scent that lasts for a decent amount of time, projecting at a decent length. An easy wear on spring or summer days but defiantly kept for warmer days. It's sweet but not overwhelming, something I admire in this fragrance, and gives off a natural scent. Mojave Ghost stays somewhat linear, not changing too much for me when applied on skin, only evolving more into a cedar(ish) base with its other primary notes. Of course, it is also very unisex, another thing that Byredo does well in all of their fragrances. Although it can been seen as a little more feminine due to its middle notes of florals and sweet leaning profile, I think it holds the line. Mojave Ghost is unique in itself, with melon scents not being heavily advertised or hyped up. However, Byredo does a great job formulating this one, taking a step up from the original. It's defiantly a fragrance you would want to sample before purchasing. Simply put into a few words, its a mix of Louis Vuitton Imagination and God of Fire with melon mixed in. The balance of sweet with not being overdone as well as being fresh with its florals makes Mojave Ghost a summer time go-to for me. I'm very excited to wear this and have already been noticed for this scent the first time wearing it after purchasing the 50ml bottle.

My colleague tested this in her lunch break and came back smelling like she had transformed into a goddess who just spent her day in a spa in Bali. From a distance, its a predominantly warm, woody and musky smell. Almost spicy, but too smooth and rounded for that. It smells like a more elegant version of Chanel Chance eau Tendre, but without the cloying quince in the headnote. I of course also had to sniff her wrist, it was slightly fruity and floral, but that does not reflect in the projection. Its warm, pleasant, just enough to keep the fragrance from being stale or boring, but to me, those notes don't take a prominent centre stage at all. I don't know anything about the staying power, but the projection is really interesting. I can clearly smell occasional whiffs across our office from her, but its not cloying or anything. I left the room for a meeting and when I came back, it was a really muted scent in our 25sqm office room, it didn't take up and occupy the entire room as you would imagine, it was a very elegant and restrained presence, yet with a surprising prominence on her. Whenever I can smell a fragrance on a colleague to this extent, the entire office stinks of just that. The balance they found in this is really interesting. The price tag is criminal, but then again it makes Chanel smell cheap with its exquisite sophistication. I bow to the perfumer who created this gem!

Compared to the original EDP, the fruity notes, especially the sapodilla, are much easier to detect, while the powdery aspect has been toned down and pushed further into the background. In my opinion, what made the original fragrance so captivating was the rich balance between the shampoo like freshness and the soft powdery texture. That dimension feels less prominent here, making the fragrance sweeter, fruitier and slightly more conventional. The difference between the two is not dramatic, but the performance is noticeably improved. The fruity sweetness feels richer and more saturated, while the longevity and projection are stronger. As much as I am in love with the scent of the original EDP, I always found its performance and projection a little underwhelming. This version performs better in both aspects and leaves a stronger presence. However, it does not feel quite as mysterious, atmospheric or melancholic as the original. The EDP has a certain quiet depth and emotional character that I find more captivating.

This is basically a repackage of Marc Jacobs Daisy. To be fair I've always felt that one was more unisex. It has the sour note that lots of male designer frags have. It's a beautiful scent but for some if you are reminded of MJ Daisy or Chanel Chance eau Tendre it might make it hard to shake the association. My biggest complaint though is the performance, longevity is 9hrs plus, just the projection is so light, where for many you are going to forget you are wearing it. Especially men, since we can't spray it on our hair and run it throught with our fingers down to the tips (excluding men with majestic manes ofc) This is such a soft projector for most people, (it's meant to be) but those fortunate enough to be more sensitive to the smell will get a nice scent bubble. The rest, will have to live with others complementing you on the scent you don't detect without sniffing your shirt.

I've never owned the OG Mojave ghost, only ever tried it at the store, but based off reviews I decided to buy the Absolu. Pear-like quality, warm and slightly dry. I almost find this fizzy or sparkly in a way almost like smelling champagne. Very unique! From what I can tell I'd say the Absolu is slightly more sweet and not as dry/crisp as the og. There's definitely longevity in this one stays on skin for 8-hours at least, yet it stays close to the skin and remains inoffensive. For me it's perfect for work or casual days. One thing about this one though it's super comforting and just wonderful to get whiffs of during the day. My boyfriend loves this and tried it on himself but he doesn't think it suits him, possibly because I'm the one wearing it and he associates it with me? I think it's slightly more female but it's definitely unisex.

If you like Blue Talisman you'll probably enjoy this. They smell entirely different, but I would say the style is the same (fruity fem leaning but still unisex clean scent). I tried this at a mall and at the time it was just okay, but when I saw a bottle going for a great price I pulled the trigger. When I received it I was somewhat disappointed. It was much more feminine than I remembered and it had this sort of sourness that I really couldn't stand. It sat on my shelf for a few days before I tried it again, and this time I fell in love. It still leans feminine with the florals, but the pear/sapodilla note came alive and changed my opinion completely. As for performance I think it's perfect, for longevity I get 6-8 hours with probably 3 hours of good projection. My only regret is not getting the 100ml bottle. 10/10

Smells super smooth and unique and leans slightly feminine. It's my favorite of the Byredo fragrances I have tested. It smells like sweet fruity flower jam, almost like the rose jam my mother used to make when I was a kid, but with other types of flowers. I would say it is versatile enough to be worn at any time, in spring, autumn, winter, and not-so-hot summer days. I would personally not wear it in the hot summer heat, as the sweet jam would be cloying. The absolu is essentially just a straight upgrade from the original Mojave Ghost, though still not where I would want it to be with longevity and projection for this price point. They might just have to come out with a super absolu for me to buy it. Or maybe a good clone of it will come out by that time, we'll see.

this smells like the scent of juicy, jammy strawberry-violet shampoo lingering on a pretty girl's hair after an everything shower. fruit scents on clean skin that's just a little teeny bit soapy. a beautifully playful and sexy sweet sapodilla fruitiness married with sensual ambrette, then a touch of creamy sandalwood & musk. i don't get a super floral feel of it, there's just enough violet. i think this could adapt to any occasion or season, it's fruity and light enough for daytime and summer, alluring and sexy enough for nighttime, warm + creamy/woody enough to keep you cozy in the winter. it is delightful when sprayed on clothes, i still find it doesn't last SUPER long on skin, it's light at first spray and ~3.5 hours later it's nearly gone.

I had a small bottle of the OG of this which I fell in love with but I heard rumour of an Absolu because despite smelling amazing the lasting power left something to be desired. The stuff was launched and it was love at first sniff. hand in wallet and card tapped without any question. I love the scent its definitely unisex and both comforting and cosy. I like the fact I can smell this on myself several hours later but without projecting across an entire room. I find it a relaxing fragrance and my go to when I want to snuggle on the sofa with a blanket and a good book. I personally prefer this in the colder months but that doesn't mean its not a summer fragrance (I just like a fruiter/coconut note in hot weather). One of my faves ever.

MG Absolu - sweet, airy, and fleeting - is a masterful scent from the Byredo house and evokes a sense of lightness, mimicking the resilient flower inhabiting the Mojave desert. While I found the original scent to be just ok, this one is a step up and adds those sweet notes on top of the scent that make it so addictive. It's perfect, both for daily wear and for going out and special occasions. Although a more concentrated version of the original MG, this one still isn't as loud or room-filling as I would expect it to be, but it still stays a good 6 hours on my skin and can be heard by a person sitting across from me, so I'm only happy with purchasing this perfume.

Stunning, beautiful, ethereal, better than the original. A fairy living in a meadow of wild flowers would wear this I think the general consensus is that the original scent is beautiful but has abysmal lasting power and sillage especially given its price point. The absolu is deeper and richer with a significantly better lasting power while still maintaining its light and airy spring time essence that the original scent is known for. In my opinion Byredo has smashed it with most of their absolu formulations but this one in particular stands out to me. 100% worth the hype of the original scent with the improved lasting power and sillage to back it up

I think I have found my signature scent. This is truly wonderful. Sweet opening, not too much, not floral, not even fruity, just very soft and comforting, develops into an optimistic, calm, skin scent with woody tones. But the opening note survives, it definitelly does not disappear. Its complex and just amazing, universally wearable, survives very long on my skin (easily till next day if i shower and dont soap up sprayed skin), even in the high heat of summer. Worth every penny to me. I also have bal d'afrique absolu and that is also genius. But very different, so you can easily get both. I insanely love this house.

My all time favourite scent. First smelled this a little over a year ago and I'd never had a reaction to a fragrance like that, and I knew I had to own it eventually. It reminds me a lot of a watermelon jollyrancher in the best way possible. Fruity and extremely light and uplifting. One of the most elegant fragrances I've experienced. Unfortunately the longevity isn't crazy on it, I get maybe like 5 to 6 hours on my skin. I've only worn it twice so maybe I just need to wear it a few more times and test more thoroughly? Either way, super glad I have it. This will definitely get a lot of play in my rotation

I was never a big Byredo fan... that is, until I tried their Absolu range. More specifically, Mojave Ghost Absolu and Bal d'Afrique Absolu. I don't even know what made me give Byredo another chance, but I did. Two days later, I'm a proud owner of Mojave Ghost Absolu and I'm seriously planning on picking up Bal d'Afrique Absolu too. To me, they both smell so much deeper and richer - exactly what I was missing from the originals. The originals were always a little too airy for me, but these Absolu versions almost feel more grounded, juicy, and rich... I love it :)

Finally, it appeared on the website! 😌 What can I say, the differences in sound between the Absolu and EDP versions are not that significant. The Absolu version is richer and deeper in its scent, with a bit more sweetness. Of course, the amber in the base makes the fragrance warmer. Overall, they’ve refined what was missing in the predecessor. The longevity of the Absolu version is impressive as well, lasting about 7-8 hours on the skin. And on clothes the scent stays for several days. I’m not a fan of the EDP version, but I found Absolu one quite lovely .

Definitely stronger and a bit "sexier" than the original. Still some staying power issues butttt I did spray a lot one night and could smell it the whole time, which was nice because I've always just wished for anyway for the MG stay longer. On me, it felt like luxurious happiness and gave me good confidence smelling "expensive" all night. Really gorgeous and a great all year anytime smell, but I'm really enjoying it as a transitional spring summer specifically. IMO if you don't have the original this is much better to buy.

This was one of my Christmas gifts! I love the OG, but obviously not very strong. The absolute is better in my opinion which is saying a lot because the OG is a masterpiece... The absolute has about 5x the projection and lasting power. Not only that but you get heavier sapodilla (pear) as well as an added amber note. This perfume is juicier and has more depth while still smelling basically identical to the OG. If you’re debating which one to buy, get this one. Mine was $40 off at Bloomingdale’s right now.

While I don't typically find myself reaching for this house, this particular fragrance is a stunning exception. It’s beautifully composed—feminine, flirty, and a truly playful floral. To my nose, it shares a striking resemblance to Zafferano by Profumo di Firenze; though the notes differ, they capture the exact same energy. The ambrette and sandalwood are the standout here, providing a clean, "second-skin" quality that is completely magnetic. It’s one of those rare scents that just draws you in.

Mojave ghost the OG is my all times favourite and when I tried this one I was shocked it is identical duh! but felt a bit more mature like going from being 17 to 27 yo ( I just turned 23 so idk it gave me this impression of growth). Let's be more realistic now, it is not as fresh as the og it is more syrupy sweet in none nauseating way. longevity is unreal I wore it on one of my sweatshirts 3 days later still can smell it as if I sprayed it few hours ago. I will deff buy it when I could.

I am in LOVE with this perfume !! It’s so pretty and feminine - almost sparkly in the opening. I think it’s the magnolia.. but mixed with the sandalwood it’s really warm at the same time. The dry down is beautifully musky and a bit ambery. I sprayed it on myself around 5pm and woke up the next morning and could still smell it on my skin. I could think to say this is a Byredo that is actually worth its price. Going to be scouring all duty free zones to find a good price on this!!!
