#80 of My Fragrance Journey - Byredo Mojave Ghost: I Keep Thinking It’s Gone It doesn’t smell like a desert. That puzzled me immediately. I was ready for the heat. Dry wind. Dust. Something sunburnt and distant. Instead, I get florals. Soft ones. Slightly sweet. Magnolia, I think. Cool and smooth, almost watery but not fresh in a citrus way. It feels clean without being soapy. There’s sweetness, but it’s been drained of juice somehow. Like the outline of sweetness. The idea of it. And underneath, right from the start, there’s this skin-warm hum. Musk. Ambrette maybe. That soft, almost salty warmth that reads as body before it reads as perfume. It doesn’t try to be masculine. It doesn’t try to be feminine. It genuinely doesn’t seem interested in the category. It just... sits there. Existing. At some point violet shows up. Powdery, slightly cool. Or maybe it was there all along, and I just noticed it late. Cedar too. Dry wood. But the balance keeps shifting. Every time I smell my wrist, it’s slightly different. Sometimes it’s more floral. Sometimes more woody. Sometimes it smells like the air in a room after someone’s left - that faint warmth that lingers in space. And then there’s the disappearing act. This is the frustrating part. You’ll swear it’s gone. Twenty minutes in, you think your skin swallowed it whole. You question whether you imagined how good it was. And then you move your arm and - there it is. A soft trail. A quiet warmth. Not loud enough to call attention to itself. Just enough to remind you. It’s a ghost. The name isn’t subtle. The drydown gets warmer. Simpler. Musk and sandalwood mostly. A faint powder still hanging around. Less abstract than the opening, more grounded. It becomes comforting. Not in a cosy winter blanket way - more like clean skin after a shower, sun on wood, that sort of calm. It sits close. Very close. This is not a projector. If you want a fragrance that enters the room before you do, this isn’t your bottle. But if you like the idea of someone catching your scent only when they’re already near you - this does that beautifully. What surprised me most is how versatile it is. In cold air, it feels dry and almost crisp. In heat, something slightly mineral comes out. It doesn’t collapse. It adjusts. Quietly. Is it worth the price? That depends. If you’re paying for volume, no. If you’re paying for texture and subtlety and that strange feeling of something barely there but impossible to forget... maybe yes. I keep thinking it’s gone. And I keep finding it again. That’s either the magic or the problem. I’m still deciding. My signature scent. My emotional connection to this perfume is so random and so unexpected, which makes me love this perfume even more. The first time I visited a Byredo store, I recognized a “paper” or “wood” smell in the store that instantly reminded me of my high school library. The library was air-conditioned, clean, quiet, and smelled like paper—not the white A4 papers, but the brown ones of well-kept novels. This paper smell was never something I kept in my memory or even cherished. It was just how the library smelled like and it was lost somewhere in my memory. But at the Byredo store, when I first detected this paper smell, the imagery that this scent brought of my high school library was so accurate, so vivid that my memory with that particular place suddenly felt so special. It was like the involuntary memory Gustave Flaubert wrote about in one of his novels (can’t remember which one), where a bite of a Madeleine instantly transported him to a forgotten piece of his past. I asked the store manager at Byredo what this paper smell was and she was not able to understand what I was talking about. That’s obvious because if it weren’t for my memory, I wouldn’t say that this smells like paper. So I tested out several perfumes at the store, thinking that maybe the paper smell is not from a particular perfume but from a combination of numerous ones by Byredo. Then I sniffed at Mojave Ghost and there it was! Mojave Ghost is so unique. It’s a fragrance you will never find somewhere else. In my opinion, it transcends the floral/woody classification, or even the specific notes it is made out of. I usually like perfumes for their notes, but this one breaks all those labels. To me, it is truly about the memory. Not even a memory that I’m particularly fond of. It’s just a random piece of my past experience, but being able to connect to it through a scent is simply fascinating.

I feel like this fragrance gets unnecessary negative reviews because it isn't overbearing and in your face like so many mainstream fragrances. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think a fragrance should be personal and more of an accessory that I wear instead of it wearing me. I tested Mojave Ghost last year and it haunted me until I caved and bought a bottle for myself. I find it alluring, mysterious, subtle and seductive, but you are going to have to be near me to enjoy its beauty. I walked by a coworker this week and she said, Wow, you smell good! I always get compliments when I wear it and I wear it the ENTIRE day and still get compliments at night, so obviously something is still lingering. I also purchased the matching lotion and this is just as beautiful. I am able to pick up on a slightly fruity note in the beginning, but mainly this is a woody floral on me, which is my favorite type of fragrance. I'm considering the hair mist now, just because I am head over heels in love with this scent. It seems that the people that can't smell it may become nose blind shortly after applying? Like I said, I'm complimented 10 hours after the initial spray, so I have no problem with the lasting power. I tried the Absolu version, but it just isn't the same. I'll stick to the original and all of the beauty that it beholds.

Byredo Mojave Ghost has honestly become my new obsession. I’m pretty sure this is going to be one of those perfumes I’ll never stop reaching for. If you love smelling clean but don’t want to smell basic or ordinary, you absolutely need to try this. The floral, musky and slightly fruity vibe is so sheer, fresh and elegant that it pulls you in instantly. It reminds me of those first warm days of summer, when you’ve just showered and your hair is still slightly damp while drying under the sun. A flowy dress, warm golden light before sunset, a plate full of juicy fruits, huge blooming flowers on the table and that peaceful feeling of genuinely enjoying how beautiful life can be... this perfume smells exactly like that mood. It also has that feeling of washing your hair with your favorite shampoo and having that soft clean scent trapped in your hair all day long. What amazes me is how clean and polished it smells without ever turning into a detergent-like or overly soapy scent. There’s also a soft dry and slightly powdery side underneath everything that gives it such a feminine, delicate and innocent touch. It smells like a woman who is kind, natural, effortlessly beautiful and full of refined taste. To me, this is the most magical and modern version of a clean scent.

This was not what I was expecting based off the name— it's surprisingly fruity— but I really like it. Sapodilla is one of my favorite fruits and is very underrated especially in the United States. I know prickly pear/cactus fruit doesn't have much of a scent, so I almost wonder if the perfumers were trying to use sapodilla to imagine a world where cactus plants have delicious and aromatic fruit. Mojave Ghost is quite unique but also generally crowd pleasing. As the name suggests I think this is best on a dry summer day. It would be great somewhere like Arizona or Nevada. I live in Florida and the summer is probably too humid for this, as the humidity really seems to compound the ripeness of the fruit notes in a way that might become too heady for some. However on a dry summer day with a slight breeze, this performs really well. It's very "ghostlike" in the sense that your ability to smell this on yourself seems to come and go throughout the day. However, even if it's not always apparent to you, it will be for others as it seems to trail behind you (not in a room-clearing/beast mode way though, more like a slight essence carried on the wind). 9/10.

This one surprised me. I genuinely think this is one of the best floral sweet unisex fragrances I’ve smelled. The standout for me is the melon-like sweetness. It’s smooth, airy, and radiates incredibly well without ever feeling overwhelming. The projection is excellent too. Multiple coworkers noticed it throughout the day, including some of the guys, which says a lot for a scent that leans floral. What I love most is how wearable it is. I actually find myself reaching for this more than the Absolu version. The Absolu can be a little too strong and dense for my taste at times, while this feels effortless. It has a luxurious quality to it that never feels forced. Longevity is around 6 hours on my skin, which is perfectly fine considering how enjoyable the scent is. It’s one of the few fragrances I own that doesn’t just smell good. It feels like an experience every time I wear it. Elegant, refined, and easy to fall in love with. Overall, this gets a 9.5/10 from me. I’m going to rinse through this bottle during the summer. It’s that good.

I have to politely disagree with others who claim this is a "light floral" akin to Marc Jacobs Daisy. Mojave Ghost seems to change based on skin chemistry. While this perfume smelled like insipid flower water on paper, on me - once the perfume starts to dry down - I get a HUGE dose of sandalwood with a very deep magnolia accord paired with fruitiness from the sapodilla fruit, and musk from ambrette seeds. My boyfriend called it out before me, "... now this is a sexy perfume!" and he never said that about anything else (e.g. Dior Addict). I even pulled him to the counter once to smell the tester bottle, and he confirmed that the bottle "smells nothing like how it is on your skin". I personally find the heart and base quite heavy, and would only use this during colder months. Longevity is superb - I get 8 hours if not more. Again, judging based on my and some other reviewers' experience, the outcome of Mojave Ghost is highly skin-dependent. Try it on skin and see how you feel about it before dismissing it as a whole. You never know!

This was another love at first sight. Very few perfumes do that for me. The smell of sapodilla is similar to a more tart pear, and the fruity facet of the perfume isn't in your face. It's more of a natural, sweet, nuanced fruity smell, and it smells unique. The freshness of the sapodilla, combined with the ambrette is like a light fruity, yet slightly musky, spicy opening. The floral notes in the perfume are light, and can't be instantly discerned as being from a particular flower (or maybe I say this because I don't know what magnolias or violets smell like). This smells like other Byredo perfumes in that I can see this being worn by a woman who has her life together. Neatly pressed clothes, clear skin, likes to drink kombucha, and keeps her nails always done. This also has a reputation for not lasting long or for being "weak", but I can say after wearing this in 35 degree heat that it depends on the occasion? I can still smell it after a few hours, and it does project very well.

i have wanted to try Byredo fragrances for the past year, but wasn’t sure which i would like. i was at target smelling Finery fragrances and i fell in love with the Mojave Ghost dupe (Desert Spirit), so i decided to order a 5mL of Mojave Ghost to test more. i’ve only worn it twice so far but i already can tell this will be one of my signature scents. it is beautifully fresh and very floral, with a bit of pear like fruitiness from the sapodilla and ambrette. this is 100% my type of fragrance. i think it smells chic, expensive, and mysterious. i also have already gotten compliments wearing this, my coworker told me i smelled amazing and that i was making the whole room smell good, so the projection actually surprised me. it definitely is overpriced, but so are most niche fragrances; you’re paying for not just the fragrance, but for the brand itself. overall, i love this so much and will be ordering a full size bottle in the next few weeks!

Agh you guys this is unreal Doesn’t smell like chance eau tendre btw maybe only in the first minutes Its exactly. EXACTLY like a mix of Idole Lancome+Forever and ever Dior Compared to the notes im only getting pear magnolia musk freesia spiciness which i die for hints of jasmine and sandalwood Not soo unique but heavenly i think i have a lot of fragrance with the same dna but that doesn’t make it bad in any way this is such an incredibly well blended floral musky fragrance perfectly balanced between being sooo airy and floral fruity soooo well blended I just discovered today that sapodilla smells like a more refreshing less sweet Pear 🍐 I do think that its a bit overpriced i mean it does smell incredible tho but doesn’t worth that price tag as a scent with a dna similar to 6544656 different another scent If the performance was a bit stronger it will be totally totally worth it Scent 10/10 Bottle 10/4 Performance 10/6 Overall 10/8

I started with the sample since the full size felt like a splurge, but the moment I sprayed it I was captivated. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a scent this beautiful. I usually gravitate toward warm, gourmand fragrances, but I’d been searching for something fresh and clean without leaning too floral. This perfume is exactly that: soft, pure, and ethereal. Though the main notes are listed as floral, they’re perfectly balanced, gentle and refined rather than overpowering. I sprayed it after a shower before bed, and it felt as if I were drifting into clouds. It’s an intimate, delicate scent that feels quietly luxurious, the kind that makes you feel elegant without even trying. It lingered on my skin through the night about eight hours. For the price, I wish it lasted a bit longer, but it’s so enchanting that I’d reapply just to experience it again. Truly worth the hype, a fragrance that feels like pure sophistication.

Let me start with the good: I don't think a name has ever fit a scent so well. You smell this perfume, you'll understand how it's name fits it to perfection. It is truly one of the best scents that I have ever smelled. Well I can't distinguish any of the individual floral notes that it claims to have, the best way I can describe it is it smells like a powdery cactus. It is very light and soft and smells like prickly pear cactus. It's very beautifully unassuming. That being said, I do wish it was a little bit stronger and lasted a little bit longer. Such a unique smell that I want it to last all day! But it is perfect if you want to smell good for yourself and don't want to be too loud because maybe you have co-workers or other people with allergies. Even though it doesn't last as long as I would hope, I still have to give it five stars for the uniqueness of it alone. It smells amazing!

How have I not written a review on this fragrance? It was one of the first Byredo's I owned and one of my favourites. It is probably one of my most worn s well. This is a compliment magnet for me. I wore it today and 2 people mentioned it which I do find slightly odd as it isn't the biggest projector in my fragrance wardrobe and I do find I need to top it up half way through the day (probably more for my benefit.) This is such an easy unisex fragrance that I love wearing. I find it suits any occasion and I love it especially when I go for a hike because the fragrance reacts well with my skin even when it warms up due to exertion. Nothing worse than being dine dirty by a fragrance when you're on a hike! The mix of notes - wood, florals and musks - are blended just right for me and I feel cool and crisp and put together when wearing this. I think I will always have this in my stash

Alright.... maybe I'm lucky, but this one actually performs really well for me. The best way to describe it is clean and wealthy. I'm a masculine guy and I absolutely love to wear this. It's so clean and fresh. The florals are the biggest player in this for me, but the woods keep it clean and unisex in my opinion. There is also a sweetness I can't quite pin down that floats around throughout the wear. It is seemingly linear to me. The opening has a little bit more of a citrusy blast to it, but it settles quickly into the clean dryer sheet scent that I can't get enough of and stays there until the end. It pushes hard for the first hour and pulls back but hangs around for a solid 6 hours and a skin scent for 8. For quick reference, I've been wearing Meteor the last week and it doesn't perform nearly as well on me.

This is a fragrance that if you get it, you get it, if you don't, you don't, if you know, you know; and if you don't know, I honestly feel bad for you lol. On a real note, she is not a beast mode fragrance. If that is a need for you, then don't even try her; you won't like her. This is a woody floral white musk fragrance. I've been wearing this for years, and in my experience, the DNA works best in the heat. When I waitressed on the patio in the summer, I got so many compliments. I once had two guys compliment me back-to-back. It's giving fresh sheets, matching set, the morning sun flowing through the curtains, everything shower, effortlessly polished. She is that girl, but the thing about being that girl is that some people don't get the hype, but who cares cause she is that girllll!

Such a beautiful, clean fruity musk! It’s sweet but very soft so it screams elegant instead of juvenile. While I usually lean towards gourmands, this is so pleasant and so inoffensive I find it could be my daily wear. It’s literally the definition of quiet luxury. So pretty, so classy, but it doesn’t scream look at me. While I surprisingly get really long staying power, the scent wears close to the skin. It’s not a ‘what perfume is she wearing’ vibe, but ‘wow she naturally smells sooo beautiful’ vibe. You can easily wear this in small spaces like on a roadtrip or dr appts, but also wear it out to brunch or to the office. Love!!

I love this scent so much. It is truly one of the most unique fragrances I've ever had; nothing else smells like it. It's so evocative...it reminds me of an experience I had once on a family vacation to the desert. It had been hot during the day, but the sun had set and it was dark. I went outside of our camper, barefoot, walking across the desert scrub, and was shocked by how cold it was at night. I still remember looking at the stars and feeling the breeze. This smell is that feeling. I know the lead notes say floral, but this is powdery, almost cacti-ish. The only downside is that I wish it were stronger!

This is my second review after I purchased this now. Before I compared this to Chance eau Vive. But after trying both of them side by side.... WOW. This is an absolute masterpiece of a perfume. I will put this in the category of clean sexy. Incredibly seductive in a fresh musky way. Just got out of the shower. Addictive and mouth watering sapodilla. Very well balanced and something you can wear for any occasion! Dress it up or dress it down. Wear it to bed. This smells like a Sade song sounds... Worth the hype and worth the price. Surprising that this isn’t rated 4+ on here. 1111/10

I tested Byredo’s Nomade discovery set, then ordered a full bottle of Mojave Ghost. There is something so unique yet familiar about this scent. Floral and sweet without being too much of either. I wasn’t sure how I felt when I first sprayed my wrists, but it smelled so lovely as I caught whiffs throughout the day. The woody richness comes out more on skin. It really doesn’t last long enough for the price, but I’ll decant a travel size to bring along. I like it now in winter, but I’m most excited to wear it come spring and summer!

My favorite perfume... So mysterious and interesting... Everybody seems to smell something different when they smell Mohave Ghost which makes it so unique. People who don't like it (like my mom) say it smells like cucumber, pickles, funky water etc. For me, it's very hard to pick which is the most distinctive smell since it's perfectly in between of powder, fruit, wood, musk. Which is really good personally because I hate perfumes that smell exactly like something, I feel like those types of perfumes grow old too quickly.

I completely used up one sample then bought two more and when I finished those I got a full bottle. I don’t know if it’s just me but I don’t get a vast desert from this. Infact on my skin I’d describe it as a green, aromatic with a bit of a fresh morning dew on cut grass almost. Or standing in a thick forest with the floor covered in moss and it’s just finished raining. To my nose it’s pretty fresh, it projects well on my skin and lasts a good 5-6 hours. This is my second favourite of all time, only beaten by Valaya.

I love the pear; it's strong on me for about 10 minutes. I am not sure it's worth the price for a full bottle; I can barely smell it half an hour later. Gypsy Water is nice, but not unique, and Bal D' Afrique is nice at first, but it dries down to baby powder on me. Sandara was my favorite, discontinued. I found Sandalwood Temple, and I am tired of waiting for them to let us know if they are closing for good. I have the worst luck!

I've never smelled anything like this, and honestly it is one of the very few perfumes I fell in love with at initial smell. It shocked me, and I couldn't stop spraying it on myself. It is so sexy yet chill, like a cool girl with a unique and distinctive clean + elevated scent. It's office friendly too because it's inoffensive and a crowd pleaser. This is 100% signature scent worthy, only issue is the longevity isn't the best.

Right away my husband and I both really loved this one. It's fresh, fruity, a little citrusy, and a unique kind of floral. It has a bit of an intoxicating aroma that I can't stop smelling. The dry down actually gets more citrusy which is unusual as citrus is usually one of the first scents to fade. It's a very unique fragrance. I don't have any perfumes that are similar to this. It's a little pricey, but I think it's worth it.

Elegance and class is what i get since the first spray. A bit feminine for the typical masculine scent. You will need to do full wear to either love it or not. Give it time. Apply it at night to sleep, and there you will see like i did and apriciated. I like it but for the price and unfortunately poor performance for me is not worth it. Still, i will use it mostly for more formal events. Try it on a 2 ml decant.

Very crowd-pleasing, clean, safe perfume. Not great longevity. The type of fragrance that you put on when you simply don't know what you want to wear that day, or you want a comforting, all-year-round smell that's simply yours. I know everyone has it and it's been all over TikTok and Instagram, but it's the one bottle that I have almost finished in one year, and I am definitely repurchasing the 100ml. Love it.

The first sniff left me wanting...not sure if it is just me but macerating Byredo scents is key, an absolute Must - THEN I am obsessed!! On the rare day I don’t automatically reach for Byredo, I will have another scent in mind for the day (floral, citrus, it doesnt matter)... then I just can’t help a spritz of Mojave Ghost on the neck! Totally completes it!

Mojave Ghost is my sanctuary in a bottle. It’s an incredibly soft, velvety scent that feels like a calm, angelic embrace. This fragrance is special to me because it evokes memories of a very peaceful time in my life. It has a soothing, transparent luxury that doesn't need to shout, it just flows. It’s clean, serene, and deeply sophisticated.

"ohh This smells like nothing hurts " . Those were the exact words when my nephew smelled it. This is a love for the first sniff ,very comforting , very unique, relaxing smell . I smelled about 7 from byredo and they there's some similarity with other fragrances , but this one is just form a different planet. I'd give it a 10 out of 10.

the first time i sprayed it, it felt like a very different, sophisticated, and grounded perfume. definitely elegant, confident, and the kind of scent a self-assured woman would wear. it has a beautiful magnolia note. HOWEVER, i read a review saying it smells similar to baby wipes, and now i can’t smell anything other than baby wipes.

The scent is perfection in a bottle, but with the staying power of a fart in a stiff breeze. Like....what is going on? Why would you EVER spend more than $20 on anything that lasts 15 seconds? And I'm not doing nose blind. I sought out others to see if they could detect anything, and they couldn't tell I had applied anything.

This smells exactly like garnier fructis shampoo.. I'm not mad at it though. It's very fresh & clean but not the linen/cotton type of clean. More like freshly shampooed hair, freshly lotioned skin. I love it personally. I got a sample to try and I will absolutely be adding it to my collection.

Oh this is heavenly, something a teacher would wear (in a good way). I have the oil version of this, it’s pretty nice. After wearing it for the whole day I still pick up ambergris (specifically just like “Not a perfume” by Juliette has a gun) on the pulse points I applied it to. Love it.

I am biased as this has been my signature scent for a few years but just a lovely everyday scent that's main drawback in my opinion (longevity) doesn't pose too much of an issue in lighter weather and crisp to warm days. overpriced but it's a beautiful unique scent

So I caught this scent on someone and wow... that scent was super unusual and kinda unique. It immediately caught my attention. I felt like “this is totally different from what I usually wear”. Had me curious, so I tried it... and yeh, I’m not letting this one go.

Lovely smell. I adore violet-powdery fragrances and it has just become one of them. Nothing new or groundbreaking, but still it’s my favourite Byredo fragrance so far. The price tag is out of my reach, but the smell itself is absolutely great.

the sopadilla smells like asian pear to me, a crisp delicate yet distinctive flavor, the sandalwood wraps itself around the magnolia and the breeze is sweetened by violets carmelized in amber. It is lovely, an aura surrounding me with beauty.

I disagree the negative reviews. I tried it on my skin, and this worked great with my skin's chemistry. Very sensual, strange and mystic scent with a very good sillage and long lasting. Ideal for autumn and winter and I want it so badly!

This one feels like Quiet Luxury. A scent that simply says “ I take good care of myself ”. It doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing perfume, you just effortlessly smell good. It’s not doing too much or trying to be noticed.

Its unique sweet note is unforgetable. Recommend it if you are looking for sweet fruity but not candy note. It doesnt suit on me (as a mature man), but I love to spray 1-2 on my pillow before a good sleep.

I’ve been told I smell amazing and so huggable then I’ve been told I smell like a grandma in a fancy blouse at church...I mean neither are bad! Tbh I think its all true and I dig that. Yes, just get it.

Absolutely love this one. So smooth and exotic fruity, byredo does the best fruity perfumes (I love pulp too.) Anyone in the UK want to swap a decant or a partial bottle for something I own?

"Project," I want to yell. "Projeeeeect!" But it's beautiful. Sundazed may be gone (RIP my beloved) but this and Bibliotheque will keep me interested in Byredo for a while.

Gotta give props to the og playful seduction of mojave ghost. True to its name a 8ish hour ghost trail scent that is begged to be discovered by the world around you.

It's beautiful. The perfume suits me perfectly. It's fresh and slightly fruity to me. I want to wear it all the time, it's just a masterpiece.

Clean avant garde musky floral scent, dries down woody. Unisex but leans fem, I go nose blind to it pretty quickly so unsure about longevity.

Mojave Ghost feels like a soft breeze caressing your skin. It is clean without feeling soapy, and elegant without being loud. Perfection.

Had to try it because my old pal Benito put me on, and it became one of my all-time favorites. Fresh, soft, and stays close to the skin.

I can finally mark this as “I have it” HAHAHA, got this as a gift and I love it. It’s woody powdery and perfect for winter vibes.
