Mumbai Noise

Once upon a time, even before my strong passion for perfumery, I bought two bottles of Byredo brand unknown to me: Bal D'Afrique and Pulp. I poured them as if I wasn't myself, I couldn't breathe enough. Later I found out that it is from this brand that it is often advised to get acquainted with the niche. I use Byredo even now, nothing has changed over the years, and this brand is still beautiful for me, and I still go to try their new products. Everything Byredo does, from perfumes and candles to decorative cosmetics, turns out to be stylish and beautiful. My favorite Byredo fragrance over the past year is Mumbai Noise. The creator of the brand, Ben Gorham, is half Swedish and half Indian, and this is the third fragrance that he dedicates to India. The new perfume turned out to be wearable and soft, like a bright Indian carpet, even the dustiness of the fragrance does not frighten at all. Mumbai Noise is really very "crumbly", you literally feel this street dust in the bottle, this sand lifted into the air. And a variety of spices make their way through the sand, and what is most pleasant, the aroma of tart black coffee.

This was my 1st introduction to byredo . Got a little tester splash bottle included in something . Let me say ,as soon as I opened it ,nope thats horrible . Put it in the donate drawer . Fast forward a couple of months and having a revisit of those ,I thought ,I hated i decide to try this again on my wrist . It had changed ,like really by quite alot or have I? Hmm . Anyway looking at the notes and reviews on here i would never have ever considered wearing this but god sake .its so nice on me now . Its sweeter but still dark and smokey but smoother and so wearable to the point I'm considering a full bottle. The only reason ive put the brakes on is because although I do really appreciate it more now ,it does lean masculine and I'm, at least I didnt think I was ,into masculine scents on me . If a FB ends up smelling like the sample I have ,I just may have changed my whole scent profile likes lol . May I add it lasted for a good 7 hours on my clothes that had brushed my arm and I could still smell it at bedtime . Now I may have to try the other byredo offerings

Sampling Mumbai Noise by Byredo, a 2021 release, a blend of oud, coffee, labdanum, sandalwood, davana, and tonka. It has almost a “chocolate with spice” vibe, something perhaps that I’m imagining from the coffee, and has a good bit of coziness mixed with provocation, an ever-so-slightly funkiness of oud and spiciness of davana mixed in with otherwise familiar and centered, yet robust, coffee/sandalwood/labdanum trio. It feels like an evocation of a coffee house or log cabin, with touches of smoke and fire, but overall, a semi-gourmand experience that’s dense and quite fitting Its concentration is EDP and retail pricing is $330/235 for 100/50ml, in line with most of the house’s catalogue, though it’s also available via discounters. Currently the only Byredo bottle that I have is Eleventh Hour (though I once owned Sunday Cologne), and Mumbai Noise is pleasant and striking enough that I might look into it. 8 out of 10

I bought this blindly (please don't do it!) and I damn love it! It is absolutely gorgeous! It reminds me very much of Nassomatto's Black Afgano - something like its little sis - not as heavy but rich and potent. After this perfume I'm going to quit the designers' scents! There are absolutely amazing perfumes and I know that the beauty of a perfume is not in who created, but each time I get a niche fragrance, all the designer fragrances I have start to smell cheap. There is something missing in them, or there is something addictive in the niche. It reminds me when the first time I saw a coat - it was just a coat, black, like the ones you see every day, but there was something in the fabric, something in the design, the stitching that made it stand up (it was a Gucci coat)... just a black coat but not exactly. Just another oud fragrance, but not exactly. Absolutely beautiful scent with the absolutely right name!

I see someone is shopping in Lidl and discusses the niche. Oddities and peculiarities of life... Mumbai noise is strong, very potent and projecting scent. It is very atypical for what they release but does have a great kink to it. I get the same feeling from it as from black afgano by nasomatto. Not the hash vibe percee but close. If you love fruity vanillas and smelling like candy, I can tell you right now it is not for you. For foll admiring black afgano and le lion, worth every second of your time. Empowering and dark, almost rooty and somehow gourmand with spicy kick of oud and freshly roasted coffe beans. It is really tough to explain. Fall winter and night time only. Ladies may want to skip this one, guys go for it.

I want to start out by saying that I am usually not a fan of anything from Byredo. However this is very pleasant to my nose and definitely different. This is smokey and incense like. 30 minutes into it reminiscent of marijuana smoke and freshly dried cannabis leaves. Some sweetness at the end, almost tobacco-like. There are some nutty and earthy tones but not dirty. Oud peaks through but it’s mild and not stinky. Overall I like my sample so far. There’s something exotic and mysterious about it. Unisex.

Mumbai Noise reminds me a bit of Gypsy Water but on steroids. Gypsy Water doesn’t have the longevity of Mumbai Noise. Fragrances in general are quite ethereal on my skin, but when I spray Mumbai Noise in the morning the fragrance lingers into the night. It starts out spicy and peppery, but soon settles down to a smoldering incense reminiscent of incense burned during the Catholic Mass of my youth...a fragrance that has always appealed to me! Mumbai Noise is definitely a keeper!

The absolute beast of a fragrance from Byredo. Surprisingly, the oud in here is stronger than Oud immortel & Oud Accord. This frag is for Loud Unabashed Oud lovers. Period !! Most definitely not a blind buy & not for people with timid personalities. If you wear this, expect people to turn heads. They will either love you or hate you. There is nothing in between 😎. Great for special occasions, Colder climate & evening wear. ❄️🍾🌃

Very hot perfume. I think it's the sexiest perfume I tried (with Superstitious by Frédéric Malle). If sex scene was a perfume, it would be this ! I love it but I can't wear everyday. I wear it only when I stay home... Too provocative ! I think it also smells something vintage, it's like a travel in 40-50's and I can easily imagine Hollywood black and white movies's actresses wore something like this.

Starting is medicinal and strange. But when settle it became very addictive. Not a clone of black afgano. 100 times better than that. Also not for amature olfactory. Unique and different. Only for experience noses. Which identify its beauty and uniqueness. Worth every penny but you have to be patient and wait for the magic. The dry down.

For me, this perfume is like walking in to a spiritual shop (think tarot cards, crystals, smokey athmosphere)! It feels mysterius, very spicy and very smokey! A kind of dark perfume. I absolutley love it! If you like the smell and atmosphere in such stores you'll love this! Highly reccomend!

This reminds me a lot of Fan Your Flames, but I think this is more wearable. They don’t smell similar, but they kind of have the same vibes. I prefer this to FYF, but FYF lasts longer. I don't really get the hate. This is good. Scent: 8/10 Projection: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10

Davana plays well with the oud in the back. I get citrus advocat liquor vibes although nor citrus nor advocat are in the notes. This is a really well blended and pleasing fragrance. It's a refreshing take on oud which is typically accompanied with rather heavy notes.

I enjoy this very much, but it's exactly like perfumes that came before it, such as Noctem Arabs by Gritti and Sept.21.1966 by Rundholz. Warm, slightly oudy, slightly ambery. Not sure why they want to recreate something, but nevertheless it is well done.

Love a good oud! I have “stinky” ouds, fresh ouds.... This is a much “rounder” oud. The coffee and slight sweetness makes it much more wearable. I think some people just don’t like oud... and then obviously you won’t like it. But it’s a great scent!

This should not have the low ratings and bad reviews that it has. Easily one of the best Byredo’s out there. This is sultry, warm, spicy and just plain beautiful. Very reminiscent of black afghano, terroni and also halfeti leather.

It's great. Unique, deep and rich amber intertwines with oud, coffee, sandalwood and tonka. Long lasting, powerful and realistic. I'm surprised by the low rating, perhaps people using it in summer. Def a winter frag.

I really like the oud+coffee here! It smells like I'm smoking shisha with a cup of black coffee in hand. Very wearable, leans masculine. Very unique scent as well I'm surprised it isn't more popular.

Well another masterpiece by byredo it’s an extremely pleasant and unique smell at least on me I can’t wait to get a full bottle I think this is a forever scent for me and lasts forever.

This smells absolutely divine. I can imagine myself walking the streets if Mumbai in a sultry maxi dress and wearing red lipstick. The oud was done perfectly. So in love with it.

This is criminally underrated. It smells divine, if you like oud. It's such a unique smell. It was love at first sniff to me! I receive tons of compliments when I wear it.

Revisiting the comments here again because THIS. DOES. NOT. DESERVE. TO. HAVE. THE. LOW. RATINGS. THIS. HAS. ITS BEAUTIFUL. It’s like a gourmand black afghano. Amazing!

The immediate smell was super similar to my fav Nasomatto Black Afgano. They dry down is also very pleasant. I think this is a all year, all occasion perfume.

My second Byredo perfume. And I really love this. The scent has longevity and smells delicious. Woody and spicy. My favourite perfume at the moment.

Definitely inspired by Black Afgano but better in that it is more wearable without loosing its strength. I like it better than Black Afgano.

This fragrance its the one of my love forever

An abrupt, in-your-face explosion that startles, typical of Byredo scents, where the initial impact swiftly gives way to a rapid dry-down. Despite this, it's a pleasant experience! After 10 minutes, the exquisite dry-down strikes a perfect harmony among its various notes, maintaining a pleasantly faint quality. It feels ideal for winter nights or special intimate occasions, though its price gives pause for consideration. Moments later, the incense emerges, revealing a well-blended Indian-oud composition. It's an intriguing mix of potent notes that demands an affection for its uniqueness, certainly not for everyone. To achieve a subtle, non-overpowering dry-down, a few sprays suffice. Overall, it's a fragrance that demands attention, transitioning swiftly from a bold opening to a delicately balanced dry-down. Its unique character and subtle allure make it a compelling choice.

On initial spray Mumbai Noise almost reminded me of Mojave Ghost having that same clean sort of base but it only takes a couple minutes and then holy smokes you’re hit with what I think thought was a burnt cannabis but may be davana(?) with a bitter coffee and smooth oud. I think they all complement each other well making a dirty smoky feel, the oud in this isn’t really animalic or barnyard nor is it clean like the more popular oud fragrances in the market kind of in the middle of the road and light woody. Like other Byredos I feel performance is pretty mediocre it has a maybe medium projection for the first hour and settles to a more “aromatic” skin scent for a couple more not really as heavy as it would seem to be off of the notes.

i have tested this perfume, and all i can say this is the closest scent i have smelt comparing to indian oud. as someone who owns pure all natural oud from india, i can say the sweetness and freshness of this oud is unique, and the only type of oud i can stand, without being too heavy on the nose. its got a light sparkling feel, rather then heavy and smokiness, i think they might have used fresh oud to make this scent. truely unlocks a core memory for me. this doesn't feel masculine to more, i wouldn't say its chaotic, rather it is well rounded and exotic, i wouldn't say this is a safe blind buy, although it is light and airy compared to other oud frags, oud is still a overpowering note, may be nauseating to some.

I felt in love with this fragrance when I tried out at store and then I’ve decided to purchase the 50ml, so glad I didn’t go for the full size bottle, because this in the air smells similar to Wardasina by Xerjoff without the powder, rose and tobacco, it is not a problem for me because Wardasina is one of my favorite perfumes. So the reason I felt in love with this fragrance is for its opening with this beautiful chocolate aroma that it transforms into this green, oud, woody blend. I wish the opening. Cloud stay more because i enjoy it a lot, after that it goes straight to this aroma similar to Black Afgano/Wardasina.

This is not a good scent for someone who doesn’t like oud or woody notes because those two pretty much dominate when you wear it. The oud here is somewhat gentle, much like the oud in Banana Republic’s 17 Oud Mosaic. It works pretty well with the tonka beans and coffee. Whatever you do, don’t wear this over anything fruity; it will smell like like sweetened wood chips. Overall, I like this scent, but not enough to buy it for myself. It did encourage me to try more of Byredo’s scents in the future.

I really like this fragrance. It’s a bit on harsher side, which I like, and it also feels so aromatic. It is a pleasure to wear it... Unfortunately, every time I did wear it, people around me told me I smell sweaty, so I guess I am a bit unlucky that this scent doesn’t work with my skin, I guess. And I tried it in the winter, I feel that in the summer it will open more. Regardless, I really like it and I feel embraced by its exotic scent when I spray it on me.

I loved this fragrance the first time I smelled it. Months later, I went and bought it. It's definitely a strong scent and it lasts a very long time...which is refreshing because most scents fade quickly these days. One spritz is plenty. It's totally unique so you don't have to worry about smelling like everyone else! Though some might disagree, I think this is a colder weather fragrance....definitely not something I'd wear in the Spring.

It is really strange for me to see such a low rating for this intriguing and maybe gorgeous oud creation! I tested it with a bunch of other perfumes ( on my arm) and this one was the only one which made me sniffing my hand again and again... Decent projection and longevity! (I'm on a 6 hour mark and still can enjoy it with no issues whatsoever) The most important condition here is to really like and 'understand' oud (I suppose)!

I did not at all expect to like this fragrance based on the reviews, but I do. Not a clone of Black Afghano. Most people seem to be overwhelmed by oud. For me, quite woody, yes, but a mild and comfortable strength and I say this as a person who despises oud in general. Slightly sweet. A good dose of tonka but also I sense floral with just the tiniest sliver of fruit that comprise the 'noise'. No green though.

A very strange but slightly addictive concoction.. definitely a little noisy. Rich and woody-resinous, with little stabs of something sharper peeking through. A little sweet, a little smoky.. Weirdly I get a sort of savoury note all the way through, almost like starchy crackers: poppadoms or dry ramen noodles being crushed up. I like it but really not sure what to make of it at all

Judging from reviews this is not a very unique scent profile. I haven't personally smelled other references. To me this is one of the smells that I'm intrigued by, because I don't think I would wear it myself, rather, for me - it is associated with "other". It smells like something from the 90s, what adults wore when I was a child in the post-soviet land.

This is definitely a tropical/hot weather fragrance. It smells awful, like expired perfume in cold rainy Scotland but when I went to the Caribbean and wore it, I loved it, it matched not only the weather but the vibes: different but simple yet rich. It changed my perception of it completely. I’m still glad I only got a sample though.

I love this. It is surprisingly delicious. Coffee is sweet and smells like sticky maple syrup, but in a rich, ambery way: nothing artificial or juvenile. This is the only coffee frag I wear bc usually coffee notes either feel too realistic or too artificial and although nice, not something I want to smell like.

This is strong. It's not possible to spray this and smell nothing. Yes, it's deep, dark but the oud here is very mild; it isn't dirty or offensive at all. I mostly get coffee, cacao, davana. Smells like a Byredo candle in perfume form. I think it's pleasant, modern, easy to wear. I like it.

A softer creamier more wearable version of Nasomatto Black Afgano. I prefer BA over this. Davana in this has Cannabis like smell for sure. Coffee and tonka gives a sweet smokey vibe to it. Overall, it's a nice fragrance but if you already own BA, you can pass on this.

I don’t smell the Oud in this but I get a chocolate coffee patchouli on dry down. It’s nicely spicy. It’s very warm and the name fits it perfectly because this to me is a scent for night time. I think it would be best on a crisp evening. I really like this.

Spicy, aromatic oud. Not quite for me, but not as gross as some people purport it to be. Performance is decent, price is quite high. I can imagine this might be nice in a warmer climate.

First blast to me was surprisingly powdery & sweet, and it quickly settles down into something that reminds me a bit of the feeling I get when I smell TF Ombre Leather. It's interesting!

this is the most pleasant, wearable oud scent i've ever smelled. this does smell like BR540. byredo has this lightness while having what should be very dark, woody notes

Sweet vanilla-tonka and beeswaxy wood. It is lightly latte-ish but quite light on the coffee, more warm foamed milk with honey. Nice enough.

very warm and welcoming. my mom wears this and it reminds me of her (in a good way)
