Open Sky

Love this release. It starts off with strong grapefruit accord which I can't call pomelo. This is straight on sweet/bitter red grapefruit to my nose. Accompanied by palo santo and carrying sharp greenness of cannabis it is solid release from their house. Cannabis note present in the beginning only supports vetiver in the base. You won't be smelling like drug lord or cannabis fields. I personally don't spot much pepper in here which is a good thing in this case. Overall idea is that it is grapefruit/vetiver with decent longevity and good performance in current weather. I'm wearing mine now and I can tell you it takes time to get used to it. Still if I count back all of the latest releases this is the next best thing after Tobacco Mandarin. Whatever is in-between was disappointing. Open Sky is controversial but you quickly learn to love it. Those who love their fruitchoulis will be horrified by this, anyone else appreciating aromatic and woody scents will be surprised by this new release.

First blast on this fragrance I'll do a detailed review later. Now I understand everyone has an opinion, but I get a feeling that byredo as a fragrance house is getting bashed due to the price of their products and the longevity of some frags, I can tell you I don't just buy frags for the longevity but it is a factor, I sprayed this on yesterday it lasted a solid 6 hours, I've just sprayed on today at 11.17am and I love it! Every fragrance I buy takes a little getting used to but I can pick out the notes described and find the sharpness of the bergamot is amazing with the added accent of cannabis, ( which I didn't think I would enjoy) the other notes are there and I'll wear this for a week before updating but as far as I'm concerned either people are going nose blind or they just don't like byredo, this is amazing !! I'm definitely buying a back up bottle and I think I can thoroughly enjoy this any time of the year 😊

I really only get some citrusy scent (does have pomelo vibe) for a short time then it’s more or less just vetiver. Cannabis? Never smelled that before and was not told by the PA that this perfume has such note. Anyway I smelled nothing beyond those two notes. The silage leaves a lot to be desired, as most Byredos. Edit: considering that cannabis is also called grass, there is a green scent that I attributed to pomelo/citrus peel. Maybe that’s the cannabis that’s supposed to be in this mix. Overall is okay. Nothing fancy for me that’s worth the hefty price tag. Edit: surprisingly, its been over 9 hrs now but the scent’s still on my pajama.

I sampled this last week and immediately ordered the 100 mL bottle as it’s now my most loved fragrance. I can’t explain it. I can drink it in all day. I love grapefruit, so the pomelo is a nice cousin and is perfection. The cannabis/hemp note in the middle is so beautiful, especially when it dances so harmoniously with top citrus and spice notes and bottom woody notes. It’s genius. I am just getting into fragrance and up until now I put Aesop’s Karst at the top of my list. This is as close to perfection as I’ve come in my sampling and wearing. (I like nature scents that lean more traditionally masculine.)

I blind bought a bottle of this based on the notes as I was after a heady summer scent. First couple tests only gave huge hits of pomelo (reads as red grapefruit) off the top, followed by vetiver. After a few more wearings the palo santo came across more noticeably, providing a smoky nuance to the vetiver and the cannabis adding an herbal/green tinge to the pomelo. The pomelo sticks around for most of the ride, which keeps things crisp. All in all I wasn't expecting so much pomelo, but it's grown on me for the summer heat and is perfect for the beach. I love this. This is on my wishlist but isn't easy to find. I have gone through a decant of this, and ordered two more. I feel like you need to like offbeat perfumes to truly appreciate this. To me, it's the alternative hippie cousin to Pulp. It has a fruit note that smells so so ripe, but not almost too ripe like in Pulp (which I own a FB of and adore). This is in the realms/ family of Vertus Narcosis (half brothers?) and Initio Oud for Happiness (cousin). You have to love the dank note, as it is done so right here, to appreciate this underrated gem.

okay this might be a ganja forward perfume, but no smoke no resins no stupidity involved in this beautiful creation. Open Sky smells like a mix of sunshine and thick history book. Bright grapefruit and rustic background from pepper and vetiver put a depth to aromatic fresh-cut ganja from the field. Opening reminds me so much to L'Occitane Herbae but with a lot of characters. Unique and fit for the heat.

Starts very citrusy and refreshing, but I would say cannabis is still quite prominent. Dry down is quite smokey. Very beautiful spring/summer fragrance, but it's not suitable for every occasion. This perfume was discontinued, so I would recommend looking at Mugler's Fly Away where the focus shifts on bitter grapefruit intertwining with delicate hints of cannabis.

Beautifiul fragrance. But not everyone will understand it. Relaxed and open-minded spirit... for those who go for dialogue with themselves and meditation. Unbuttoned version of Hermès H24, free and effortlessly sensual. P.S. Another good news - comparing to many latest releases of Byredo this one is very long lasting, so only few drops needed.

Sampled this today. There is indeed a cannabis scent in it but it's the smell of it before it's burned. I am a fan of that smell so I don't mind it. Then the rest of the scent is citrusy from the pomelo. If you think you'd like the smell of weed flower mixed with citrus, then you will like this! I enjoyed it.

This is beautiful wearable cannabis perfume. This is the one for me. Don’t need another cannabis. Very fresh and uplifting vibe. My husband said it smells like fresh green leaves. Surprised long longevity. Especially on hair and clothes. Definitely a keeper!

Lovely, lovely, lovely pomelo/vetiver offering from Byredo. It does remind a bit of Kilian Smoke for the sould (which is also a cannabis/citrus scent), but the cannabis is very toned down. If you like pomelo/grapefruit scents - a MUST try.

I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. I feel like I’m not getting the pomelo and I’m only getting cannabis. It’s good if I layer with something else but by alone is just straight up weed.

This one was a bit of a journey. When I sprayed it on my wrist, first I immediately got super strong, overpowering kush, which made me run to the toilet to scrub it off. Tried it few times, and was still clinging to me. It smell pure cannabis and I couldn't stand it. I decided to forget about it for a few weeks and give it a go at some point. BUT Today I gave it next chance. This is the juciest, most realistic grapefruit opening. It's mouthwatering. I really wish it would stay for a bit longer, it goes away to fast on my skin. It then transforms into kush, yet is not as overpowering as it was initially, and didn't want to scrub it off. After an hour it turned into a bitter grapefruit skin and quite potent rubber smell. Overall, it smells like an extremely hot day when the fresh asphalt road is layed down on. It's very sweaty, there's lots of people around you, everyone wearing barely any clothing, cos it's so hot the air is dancing on the horizon. Someone's playing music from their boombox, you're sipping on refreshing juice with ice, a group of teenagers smokes weed behind the corner. A really interesting and storytelling composition. Truly unisex, unique, has a good projection and sillage. Like most of Byredo's, in my opinion, a bit overpriced. Overall I actually like it, but on my skin it's just ok. I don't think I'm a target for this one though. I'll keep my decant for special occasions, but if you like citrus and the picture I painted, you're probably gonna love it 💛 though I don't think it's suitable for blind buying!

My favorite scent with a cannabis note so far. I've tried both CDG's Ganja and 19-69's Higher Peace. This blows both out of the water for me. I want a perfume that captures the scent of fresh bud, not the stink of burning cannabis (CDG's Ganja...) and Open Sky is the closest I've found yet. The fresh citrus opening is bright, in your face, perfect for warm weather, and not sweet at all. I like how much it makes my nose tingle, especially combined with the black pepper notes. I find I have a somewhat similar reaction when I open a new jar of weed. Harsh and a little intense, but enjoyable. The cannabis note seems to weave in and out here, at times noticeable, but not immediately identifiable on my skin. After a nice long dry down (for a citrus top note that is!) the vetiver comes front and center. I find my skin pulls certain types of vetiver hard, and this is definitely one of them. It's a cool and almost metallic? smelling vetiver on me, but the hint of palo santo seems to nicely balance it. I don't end up put off the way I can with other vetiver heavy fragrances. Overall, I enjoy this fragrance and it's almost exactly what I'm looking for in a summer scent. I wish the cannabis note was a little more present and a little more realistic but you can’t always have everything.

This feels very different than Byredo's usual fare. This smells a lot more like a Zoologist formula: taking some big swings and using unexpected notes together. Let's call it Drug Mule. The pomelo and cannabis together are a really nice balance of crisp and dank. It has a fennel or celery quality to it. The spice and woodsiness come through in the dry down. The cannabis note is fleeting, just a quick hit. Overall really beautiful, and I think it lives up to its name. The notes swirl up in your sinuses, like a rush of fresh air. It feels like you're looking out onto a landscape with no eyelids to limit your periphery.

Opening I get the strong Pomelo (smells like grapefruit) and a whiff of cannabis. The Pomelo dominates most of the journey. Then it dries down to a very nice Vetiver and Palo Santo woodiness. Good for outdoors and summer, but really quite versatile. You can feel the high quality of the ingredients (especially the woods) and they work so well together once it all settles down. Projection/sillage is moderate so a lot can be used. This is a light, subtle fragrance and not incredibly long-lasting. Like its name suggests, this is simple, calm, wistful, and uplifting.

It's very hard to describe the Cannabis in this. It's a certain strain or variety of it (indica sativa or something like that) I'd have to find an enthusiastic stoner to try identify it but it's the type of weed that smells Earthy, "spicy" ugh! I can't word it accurately. but if you've been around the Marijuana scene you'll know what I'm talking about, certain strains produce smoke that smells almost identical to Byredo Open Sky. In my view they've done an excellent job on the realistic Cannabis note

Have only worn this once so far but wow, this really does smell strongly of weed I was actually a little self conscience about it haha I really love the way this smells once this settles and the pepper comes through, it smells expensive in an alternative way. But there are some rough periods in the beginning with the marijuana and the citrus note that is too harsh. I wish there was less of that and more of the rest

It starts with a citrusy pomelo note and immediately black pepper enters. One might expect an incense-like scent due to the cannabis and pepper but it actually has a sweet and green aroma without any smoky harshness. While it is a unisex fragrance, I’d most like to experience this perfume on men. Overall, it's a realistic cannabis note with a fruity and peppery twist.

very cannabis forward in the opening -- green and not smokey the vetiver note is quite similar to Cowboy Grass by DS&Durga I would say that the two perfumes are actually nearly identical except for the distinct weed funk that pushes through Open Sky

Fresh opening, with a strong vetiver undertone. The cannabis note which appears in the drydown is not too overpowering - no need to worry, you won’t be taken for a stoner 😉 Great frag for the summer!

Tangy pomelo(which smells like grapefruit) and vetiver. After 10 minutes, it is almost ALL vetiver. Nice but there are a boat load of vetiver scents in the market.

To me, this smells identical to just-exhaled marijuana. Very bright and airy, yet very potent, weed. I feel like the pomelo note only serves to intensify the weed vibe. I’m not against the smell of the Devil’s Lettuce by any means, it’s a very unique and potent scent that can be lovely, but when I sprayed this on my partner asked me why I’d smoked in the house. I’m just not sure if that’s the scent trail I want following me into every occasion.

Mostly bitter and tart pomelo rind, with a little skunky cannabis and scratchy palo santo. The opening is harsh and sour and makes me wonder why I think I like this every single time. Somehow, this mellows into something sweeter and softer, like a honeydew melon. I like what this is trying to do but I wish there were some earthiness in here, maybe oakmoss or sandalwood, to tone down the mega-skunkiness.

The fresh spicy opening lasts a couple of minutes and once the cannabis note has left as well all you are left with is a vetiver drydown that to my nose is very similar to Etat Libre D'orange's Fat Electrician. Not the opening or main notes, but just the drydown. It sure isn't a bad smell, but it also isn't something new or exciting.

DESCRIPTION: "Top notes are Pomelo and Black Pepper; middle note is cannabis; base notes are Vetiver and Palo Santo." MY EXPERIENCE: There wasn't really an opening of pomelo and black pepper, I could immediately smell cannabis with a sharp zing to it (probably from the listed top notes). It felt almost alcoholic, but that quickly died down to the stinky grass smell in about a minute. The cannabis smell lingers in the air for about 45mins. It was the most noticeable note in the air for the first 20mins, and on the skin for the first 10. After that it's very subtle and mostly right on the skin. The pomelo was definitely present but far less noticeable than the cannabis, or other notes IMO. It picked up after a few minutes, then faded after 10mins. I couldn't really discern any pepper until about 20mins in when I had my nose pressed to my skin. After an hour, with my nose to my skin, the main smell was pepper and vetiver. After 30mins, all I could smell in the air was pepperiness, vetiver, and very slight cannabis. This smell is fairly consistent for 2-3hrs. I started to smell the palo santo after about 15mins but only right on my skin, and it lasted as long as the pepper and vetiver but definitely faded after 30mins. Was never really noticeable in the air. I got a sample without actually knowing anything about it, so as someone who (as it turns out) doesn't like cannabis fragrances, I just thought it smelt like stinky grass. And it's not vetiver grassiness, it's definitely the cannabis. When trying it, I wasn't wearing any layers, it was warm, and I was indoors. So nothing to hinder its performance really. IMO OVERALL (keep in mind I may be more sensitive to it since I don't like it): SCENT: 3/10 Because as even someone who dislikes cannabis, it's not offensively bad, and after a while it's not really a scent I dislike, just definitely nothing not one I DO like. STRENGTH: 4/10 For the first 30mins I'd say it's a 7/10, but afterwards it's a 2/10. Right on the skin it's a 3-4/10 overall. PROJECTION: 5/10 While the strength is weak, you can get small hints of it at an arms distance for about 2hrs. Initial 10mins you can definitely smell it from more than an arms distance. LONGEVITY: 3.5/10 Lasts for 3hrs on the skin. But I could BARELY smell it on myself without sniffing my skin after about 45mins. There were traces in the air for another 2hrs as well. SILLAGE: 7/10 There is a VERY subtle smell that lingers in a room you've been in within the first 30mins, and this smell lingers for a while afterwards (I could still smell it near a couch I'd been sitting on even after I showered). It's very weak but there is definitely a scent footprint left behind.

When I first smelled this I had mixed feelings, after smelling this multiple times in a span of 2 days. I don't like this at all. Maybe it's because my nose is sensitive, but I smell the cannabis and it's overpowering and muffling the other notes. It's complex and intriguing, but in the wrong ways. Someone that is free spirited and likes to spend a lot of time outdoors in a forest and potentially enjoys walking around barefoot would wear this. An upper class hippie girl that enjoys smoking weed and spending time in a small city would probably wear this.

Grassy (green), sharp even a bit smoky (not in a good way!) but overall, very veryyy unpleasant. I rarely pull faces when I sample fragrances. I also believe that most perfumes have a unique appeal and are never THAT bad even if it's just not for me. This one though? I really hated it on my skin. Usually I want to wait and see if it turns into something more pleasant...but this one. It's a no from me. Maybe it's an underlying trauma that OPEN SKY triggers from that one celery juice cleanse I did for a week when I was younger.

I so much want to like Byredo - the brand, and the descriptions seem so interesting, unfortunately most of the fragrances smell harsh and vulgar on me. This one is no exception. I get strong, extremely dry, and artificial grapefruit. It lacks any sort of sweetness, fruitiness or lightness I associate with citrus note. It is like a punch in the face, and it is strong 1.5h after use. Not other notes, and it feels artificial, like many other Byredo scents on my skin.

Oh dear. You know when you pass people smoking marijuana? This is just that in a bottle plus add lemon, pepper, vetiver and Palo Santo. Tah dah! Really, what mentioned on the ingredients list is what Open Sky smells like. Altogether however, smelly armpit springs to mind, and therefore obviously, not my cup of tea. Certainly creative.

Open skies? Bitter pomelo accord with green notes in heart...can’t say this smells like weed, definitely not the smell of Amsterdam streets, possibly the fresh herb. It might not have a wide base of fans, but those who like to explore frontiers of perfumery try it out.

Upon first smelling this scent, it's horrible. But the more I sniff it, the more I find it interesting and more approachable. Still wouldn't want to smell like it, but it's an artistic scent. Smells like weed with a hint of pomelo and hemp.

It's thick maryjane all the way. It spoilt all the fresh potential of this perfume - instead of being cool summer scent it turned to be a herbal nightmare for me. Somehow the cannabis here reminds me of tahini or sunflower seeds - nutsy, thick and salty. The citruses and vetiver in the behind are nice but they are really in the far background.

Absolutely vile. I've never said that for a Perfume, and mind you, I do smoke weed. It's way cheaper to buy a bag of weed and put it in your jacket and walk around. You'll probably smell nicer too.

Not cannabisy at all. Too sweet and muddy, more plain like Tobacco vanille Tom Ford. Somewhat sickening, not Smoky not citrusy Not even herbal which you would expect. No. Not good.

Another awful new release from a rapidly declining niche brand. Unfortunately it's been downhill since the truly hideous Velvet Haze. :(

The most bitter scent I've smelled so far To me it's rather associated with artemisia True potion

I wanted to smell this only because the notes in this seem to be pretty clearly trying to dupe Aedes de Venustas Signature — a fragrance I never expected to adore, but truly do. The Aedes also was what sparked my curiosity about cannabis flower in fragrance, hence my interest in a sample of Open Sky. The bitter citrus and the sharp peppery vetiver instantly recalled Hermes Terre d’Hermes! I can appreciate the Hermes on a paper test strip and as an idea, but I hate it as a personal fragrance. I almost scrubbed straight away, but the sweet, green cannabis note here is (who knew) the perfect way to ground the other notes. I actually love that the cannabis in this is even a bit more pronounced than it is in the Aedes; it’s very much stinky, crystal-studded green buds vs smoke. For Byredo, a brand that usually bores me to tears, I found this to be somewhat interesting. Unfortunately, it really draws so heavily from two more remarkable fragrances that honestly, if you like this, you would probably like one of those (the Hermes or the Aedes) better.

At the first spray I get grapefruit- sharp like I just cut into one with a knife and the zest is in the air, sour sweet and mellow. To me it's a very realistic pomelo/grapefruit smell. After a little while it dries down to the cannabis scent. Blind smelling it I didn't know what it was, I just really enjoyed this earthy green smell, warm like old wooden cupboards, fresh like a crushed leaf. Now I know what it is I can smell it. I don't know how others would read it on me. I'm don't partake and it seems an odd choice for me if the smell of cannabis is that strong. But I love it. I only have a sample and I keep reaching for it. I'm going to be out soon. The only thing holding me back is how I'm perceived to smell! I'll have to get some friends to do sniff tests after it dries down, because we all react differently with our skin too. Fascinating scent. Definitely getting a full bottle, even if it's just for me to enjoy around the house on my own.

First impression- Reminds me of enjoying KB (so cal gen x will understand this reference) with my friends at the park, mountains, alleys, parties, when I was young.Very strong initially, but calms down nicely to a wearable scent where the other notes can come forward. I don't normally wear anything with cannabis but this is one of the better ones, perhaps the best. I like the pomelo and especially the the vetiver and paolo santo base notes. If you want an absolute beast of a cannabis, look for the discontinued Kilian Smoke For The Soul. This scent requires a little bit of patience and might make many recoil initially, but it's good once you get through the skunk bud. 🚭 --------‐------‐----------------------- Scent 75/100 Performance TBD

such a unique scent an extremely ozonic, fresh, energetic herbal aura with a subtle sour-sweet citrusy heart. the cannabis is recognisable, but here it smells rather tart and herbal, adding a sticky-smokey resinous profile to the composition, but nothing outrageous. I also usually dislike the Palo Santo smell, but its pairing with green notes turned out to be very harmonious and pleasant. over time, quiets down a little, smelling smokey dark-green and less sweet, but without overpowering. the overall smell is close to the one you get inside a hammam or a Finnish sauna: steamy, woody, and herbal.

It’s like eating an unripe fruity citrus peel when open sky fills your mouth in the opening. It is pomelo that actually feels like grapefruit, sour, bitter and astringent. Then cannabis brings a special bitter, herbal, green and aromatic smell in the middle, and finally it all settle down on a smoky vetiver and black pepper combo. Open sky is not unique to me but it’s special enough for anyone who might prefer a challenging fragrance. . Open sky is a woody spicy fragrance for women and men, but it’s more masculine IMO. It seems more suitable for spring and fall.

I have never had a reaction to a fragrance the way I had to Open Sky. Omg this may be the worst most nauseating smell I HAVE EVER PUT MY NOSE ON. I can respect any fragrance, just because it isn’t my cup of tea doesn’t mean it’s bad or unpleasant just not for my nose...usually...but this fragrance....I ALMOST THREW UP. Omg I never want to smell this on anyone or anything. Burn it. Ban the ingredients, the perfumer. If you’re considering buying this get a sample so you can save yourself some money

I did not expect something new after read the notes pyramid, got a chance to try this scent and yes, my expectation is true. OPEN SKY opens with strong pomelo and pepper, 1hr later I could smell grapefruit + mint and pomelo is gone, it's not that new or special scent, just another citrusy frag IMO. Anyway it's great for summer and beach.

I just got my 100ml yesterday. The notes breakdown are pretty accurate. Opens up with bergamot (not grapefruit imo but who cares it's almost the same). Then Cannabis takes place quite swiftly. Contrary to the post below the cannabis is strong and very soothing. Finally Vetiver comes in the dry down

Without knowing the notes, this really did remind me of being in a prairie somewhere under an open sky, with the airiness of the outdoors as well as earthy vegetation and sweetness, along with a hint of leather. It would make a perfect scent for a rugged cowboy type, or a Western hippie chick.

this is legitimately an “open sky”: it smells like the heavens have split open and the gods are weeping, it feels forlorn but in an expansive and divine way, the kind of profound sadness only someone who has created oceans and stars would feel.
