Rodeo

My first full bottle purchase of a Byredo scent and I'm not disappointed. Tried this on in the store in NYC when I was traveling. It constantly smells like a warm, worn, smoky leather jacket that clings nicely to my skin without being too overpowering. The violet comes and goes softly, giving an alluring, fresh take on what could be too harsh a scent for some. As it dies down, it warms up a bit more - the sales rep likened it to the violet and leather fusing together in a way, and I can definitely see that. I wish the violet was a TOUCH stronger, as violet is really one of the reasons I love this scent (as well as Mojave Ghost and a few others of the Byredo vein), but I absolutely adore this scent. It's sophisticated, sexy, and refined without being too hyper-masculine.

Dirty, Dry Leather. Dusty Violets. Resinous Amber. Combining these was a beautiful idea and I am in love with this fragrance. Byredo has completely won me over in recent years and Rodeo is the ultimate blind buy for me. Not available in typical stores - and to my knowledge only on Byredo's website - I decided to go at it blind. I am so glad I did. I get whiffs of Hay and Leather - sweet and aromatic violets mixed in with suede and dried down with Amber. Gorgeous scent.

Smells like a posh Country Club in the Big Bend area framed with majestic mountains, clean equestrian stables near by and a golf hole on the other side of the Rio Grande in Mexico. Reminds me of a melange between Byredo Unnamed and Black Saffron, I love both. Unnamed is crisp, clean and sporty whilst Black Saffron smells like opulent rich leather.

A very unique fragrance that not everybody will like but when it's suits you you'll be opssessed, it dont smell leather when i wear it, i smell powder, fresh plant scent. For me I don't like a lot of byredo fragrances but this one I find interesting. It's unfortunate it's discontinued.

Smelled this in Selfridges - glorious. Violet leather and suede. Really reminds me of Suede Pony, which I had and loved, but got a bit tired of in the end. I’d consider buying a bottle of this...when I’m not at perfume capacity.

Soft, smoky, floral leather, quietly gorgeous. Wears differently and beautifully in warm and cool weather. My favorite leather fragrance.

This is a very special scent. It is leathery for sure. But it is not as strong as other leathery fragrances that are only suitable and acceptable to a small group of people. I personally love leather smell but sometimes a few perfumes have a very very strong leather smell that even I cannot accept that and it only ends up urging you to throw away the test paper at an instant because of the irritation to your nose. However this is in no way similar to other leathery fragrances as it is very soft. So soft that I cannot recognize that it is leather at the first sniff (part of the reason is that I have smelt a lot of perfumes already so my nose was not so sensitive at that moment). But this does not mean that the leather scent is neglectable and unrecognizable because when I went back home and checked up for the ingredients I could smell the leather scent at once. It is just so soft and well blended and not as sharp as normal leather scents that confuses us. Anyway it is a very special and successful scent in terms of its link between the scent and the image/message which the perfumer wants to deliver. Although it is not the normal scent that would make us think of the uninhibited cowboys, ceaseless wind and lonely desert, it does create an image of cowboys beside a bonfire, exactly what a rodeo should be(umm...is it held in the day or at night actually? I know nothing about this--but it seems wilder and more mysterious at night). I love this scent so much and I would definitely get a bottle of it. Byredo perfumes are all so nice. My favourite one in the collection is black saffron.

Iso E Super with cedar and leather. An aromatic saddle fragrance that others around you smell more than you can smell it, it dries down to a semi sweet powdery violet leathery scent. Super Cedar has the same composition without the leather. Overall I like it and can see myself reaching for it more often than not. It's totally unisex and safe. It's an in the middle fragrance that some will absolutely love and some will just not get,I love it.

A bit boring by it self, but great for layering. On me the leather is prominent and almost leans towards ashtray. Violets are there to and that’s it. Dry down is weak. I love leather, the more the better and this fills my need. I am one of those who cannot scent Iso-e super, but that is fine. If you prefer more flowers, try TF Ombre Leather, and for raspberry go to Tuscan leather. Also Black Saffron from Byredo is a member of the family.

Hmm...if this were named something else I might have had a better impression of it. However, the name Rodeo does not fit this fragrance. The advertising copy : "Rodeo the fragrance captures the scent of the rodeo itself. It’s the art and poetry of the rodeo, the violence, the fascination with and, the extremity of it" most definitely does NOT fit the smell of this. I've been to a few rodeos, and they are dirty affairs with both human and animal sweat and leather. This fragrance is basically a light version of TF Ombre Leather with some lavender and a bit of vetiver to make it slightly green. Not things that one smells at a rodeo. Its a decent fragrance, but IMHO leans on the feminine side. Since this is light, both sillage and longevity are lacking compared to many other leather fragrances I have smelled.It reminds me of Cuir Rustique by Paul Emilien....but Cuir Rustique is much more interesting. It's pleasant, don't get me wrong. But this is more like a perfumed ladies glove at the Kentucky Downs. This fragrance ain't a rodeo.

Like being winked at by a cowboy. A cowboy with a bag of parma violet sweets stuffed in the pocket of his brand new leather jacket. It’s cute, but no rodeo. It promises animalic, but comes nowhere near - it just doesn’t have the sweat and grime. But hold your horses. Maybe you’re just seeing this cowboy on his way into work, and all the roping of bulls and riding of stallions will be on the way later? Nope. The leather is too new, the violet too sweet, and it never really gets beyond those first few notes. You begin to suspect he wasn’t a real cowboy at all but an actor on his way to a Marlborough photoshoot. As the hours go by it gets sweeter still. It becomes fluffier, more friendly. This cowboy never broke a sweat in his life. Later on it hits you. You knew you’d seen that face before. This dude runs the mechanical bull at your local sports bar. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a lot of fun. But what starts out promising bucking broncos ends up all fairground ride. It’s pretty, but too tame for me. And if you’re drawn to a perfume named Rodeo, it may be too tame for you, too.

At first, it smells unique and impressive and reminds me of walking into a posh leather boot store in Austin (Leather standing out). Quickly dries down from that though and becomes a quite faint generic clean, slightly sweet, slightly musky scent. EDIT: I went into the boutique with the intent to buy it but I had them spray on my skin and walked the mall before I got cold feet. I found this less appealing on my skin - very dry with a note that didnt appeal to me. After about an hour it mellowed out but the scent also wasnt as softly sweet and musky as I remember Gypsy Water or Unnamed being. I passed on the buy but if anyone IS interested, you need to visit a boutique and they are selling this as a limited release. The Byredo boutiques in Texas had stock (May 2023).

My first foray into Byredo annd I love it. The violet and vetiver are really homogenized into one note (at least I have trouble picking them apart and I'm a big vetiver head) and comes off as kind of a wild sour fruit which tames but doesn't disappear (thankfully) and a kinda smoky suede note that is soo genuine, I'm also really happy this one wasn't powdery (at least not in the sense of a talc, maybe more of a textural thing if fragrances can have textures) it's a linear fragrance but I never grow tired of it.. full bottle worthy imo.

I wasn't expecting this, a beautiful sweet aromatic woody fragrance, the voilet note comes out on top on my skin when I was hoping it would be either vetiver or leather but I really do like this. A very pleasant lovely smell. 7/10

I combine this with Mojave ghost and it goes pretty hard. Makes you feel like a cowboy

to me it smells like b-vitmains :( but it lasts for ages if you dig a green soap.

Seems like this is back as a Selfridges exclusive.
