Rose Of No Man's Land

At the moment, Rose of No Man's Land remains my favourite rose fragrance. It is a fascinating and unusual scent that feels very different from most rose compositions I have encountered. It is probably the coolest rose I have ever smelled. Interestingly, this coolness does not come from citrus notes, aquatic accords, or an impression of fresh air. Instead, the fragrance is entirely centered around the rose itself. The rose remains at the forefront from beginning to end and serves as the true heart of the composition. Yet this is not the classic sweet and lush rose often associated with traditional rose perfumes. Here, the rose feels slightly dried, gently desiccated, and remarkably restrained. At times, it reminds me of rose water made from dried petals. There is a subtle dryness running through the fragrance that is difficult to describe, but it is precisely this quality that makes it so memorable. The fragrance itself is not dry in the conventional sense. Rather, there is a sensation of dryness within the rose itself. I suspect the pink pepper plays a major role here. It softens the sweetness and introduces a delicate spicy edge that makes the composition more complex and intriguing. That peppery nuance may also be responsible for the simultaneous impression of coolness and dryness. This is not a fresh fragrance in the traditional sense. It does not evoke citrus fruits, ocean air, or a garden after rain. To me, it feels more like an evening scent. I can easily imagine wearing it on a cool summer evening, but it would feel equally at home during certain moments of autumn. The amber in the composition may contribute to this effect, adding depth and warmth as the fragrance develops. Rose of No Man's Land is not airy or weightless. Instead, it creates a distinct mood and character. That, to me, is where much of its beauty lies. If I were to place the rose fragrances I have tried on a spectrum, this one would sit somewhere in the middle. It is not a classical rose like Diptyque Eau Rose, yet it is also not one of the modern citrus-driven or aquatic interpretations where the rose acts merely as an accent. Here, the rose remains the center of attention, but it is presented from a completely different perspective. There is something remarkably unusual about experiencing this fragrance on skin. It feels both calming and slightly intriguing at the same time. That is exactly why I find myself returning to it again and again. I would highly recommend it to anyone who believes they already know what a rose fragrance smells like. Rose of No Man's Land reveals a completely different side of the flower, and it does so beautifully.

The short: Yes. I have spent years looking for a rose perfume that was as unique as Rose of No Man’s Land. Pure rose, the scent of a rose as a plant and not just as a flower; of a hand that has reached through thorns to pluck a dewy, freshly-budded flower off its stem. It’s long-lasting on clothes but I wouldn’t say its protection is strong. At least, it’s not in-your-face, the way many rose perfumes tend to be. In my head I like to have an out-of-ten rating for perfumes, but Rose of No Man’s Land eludes me. I always hate the initial spritz, but as the day goes on, I find myself inhaling deeper just to catch a whiff of that secretive rosy sweetness. Now, the long: I’ll preface with a quick trip to the past. ‘No man’s land’ used to mean a stretch of disputed ground between the front lines of two opposing armies. It was a place riddled with bloodied corpses, barbed wire, bullet shells; an upturned wasteland. I think the title, Rose of No Man’s Land, could imply two things: the idea that the rose is unclaimed, or has unfurled in a bloodied wasteland. I think in the former instance it would be logical to assume it would’ve then be named No Man’s Rose, so I presume the latter meaning is more fitting. If you inhale shallowly, especially at the initial spritz, you can almost smell that metallic tang on blood. But it’s more verdure; the scent of a snapped stem, of bleeding greenery. I don’t mind that. I like realism in my floral perfumes. Diptyque in Eau Rose almost had it, but it’s a tad too strong for me; not ‘green’ enough. Too happy, like a drawing of a rose. Rose Of No Man’s Land is not a happy rose scent. It’s melancholic. Byredo does melancholy well. Founded in Stockholm and named from the old English for "redolence," it focuses on artistic storytelling, on ‘concepts’. I think part of its charm is the fact that there is no perfume in this house that isn’t just a bit sad or nostalgic. I love Rose of No Man’s Land for the fact that the gentle bottom notes, oftenmost the sweetest, almost always stay the wearer’s secret. Like the underbelly of a predator, that soft warmth that you don’t reach unless the animal lets you close. When I wear Rose of No Man’s Land, I accept that the jammy scent of rose petals will not be felt by those around me. It will stay with me. As far as blind buys go, I’d say more yes than no. You’ll fall in love with Rose of No Man’s Land when the time comes.

RONML is the perfect medium-bodied rose. In fact, it is a bit of a Goldilocks rose. It is not light and crisp like Régime des Fleurs' Little Flower, nor is it dark and gothic like Frederic Malle's POAL. This perfume lies somewhere in the middle. It contains both modern and vintage elements. It's quite lovely for everyday wear as it is not too loud, but people close to you in proximity will notice it. It is undeniably rosy, so anyone who doesn't appreciate this flower will most likely not be a fan of RONML. To me, what sets this perfume aside from other run-of-the-mill rose fragrances is the papyrus note. I've never smelled this note in any other perfume. Here, it gives the impression of a fragrant, soft red rose recently pressed in between old pages of a book. I also love the pink pepper note, which adds a soft spiciness to the fragrance. This perfume is elegant and lady like but is ultimately genderless. It does not have any kind of potpourri vibe, which I am thankful for. When I first wore RONML, I thought the silage and longevity poor. I believe I was a) used to very loud, ostentatious rose perfumes and b) going nose blind. After having a full bottle for nearly two years and wearing it regularly, I can say that I'm very pleased with both the silage and longevity. It's fairly quiet, yes, but it seems to last on my skin much longer than most other Byredo perfumes. I spray two to three spritzes in the morning before going to work and can smell it faintly on my skin when I return home from work that evening. I also layer it with the lotion and perfume oil. It lasts a fair bit on clothes, and it is appropriate for year-round wear, although I think it is best suited for spring and fall. It's a love for me.

This might just be my favorite rose scent, but it’s not something I’d reach for every day. There’s a vintage quality to it, and I know it sounds odd, but it’s the kind of scent that feels like it carries a history—mature, with a dry, almost nostalgic finish, but still undeniably floral and fragrant. It's clean and inoffensive, with an opening that feels feminine-leaning but definitely unisex once those woody notes hit. They sharpen the whole thing, adding a modern edge that keeps it from feeling too traditional. I’ll admit, it’s a bit of a wild card spray too much and it can give me a headache, but despite that, I always find myself coming back to it. It’s perfect for night events or even just quick errands when I want something with a little more presence without being overpowering. The amber notes give it a warmth that grounds the floral notes, making it feel more layered and interesting. And then there's the name Rose of No Man's Land. It’s mysterious, intriguing, and oddly fitting. This rose doesn’t bloom in a lush garden; it grows in a cold, dry-earthy tundra, carrying a sense of melancholy and solitude with it. It’s a statement scent, one that lingers with a quiet, almost haunting presence. There’s something deeply evocative about it, and that’s what makes it truly unique. It’s a rose scent that tells a story, and I can’t help but love the complexity it offers. With moderate projection and longevity, it’s not a loud fragrance, but it certainly leaves an impression.

Well, there are two ways I can look at this scent. From one hand, it is definitely not particularly unique and is a bit redundant for some, I guess. From the other, though, it's a very nice and quality-made rose soliflore, and, for me, that is more than enough to like this thing. Now, I have no clue if there's a raspberry bloom note in there because I don't really know the smell of it, but even if it is present it must've been smothered to death by a potent, yet never overwhelming Turkish rose(I get the very same rose variety as in Paestum Rose, which is Turkish as well). There is some peppery spiciness in the beginning, but aside from that, this scent is all about a very pretty, slightly(but really slightly) powdery rose laying on a decent woody-amberish base. The way this rose is mannered is terribly unisex, even if without too much additions of any kind to modify it. Its projection is very tame after an hour or even less, but, as a skin scent, it lasts for a very long amount of time. I see this one as a fairly versatile scent, season-wise. In order to love this one, a person really needs to appreciate rose a lot. In my opinion, this one is better than the other Byredo rose, Rose Noir. Also, it doesn't really remind me of Voleur de Roses because it doesn't have even a drop of patchouli. I like this one very much, and I find it slightly different in a crowded territory, mostly because of a different rose variety. 8,75/10

If emotions have a smell, Rose of No Man’s Land would be a smell of sadness, melancholy and nostalgia. As Lana Del Rey fan, I consider it a plus ;) This perfume is different than many other roses I tested (and trust me, there was a lot of them, I adore that flower) in its own, really unique way. This rose is mysterious and enchanting. I fell in love with it immediately and consider it very original, even though it might be considered a “simple soliflore” by many. That’s how I see this beautiful fragrance: Imagine walking through a secret, beautiful garden at night, in the moonlight. It’s a summer night, but the air is still slightly humid, because it was raining not so long ago. There are small lanterns on the ground that emit a delicate warm light. Suddenly, you see a bush of dark deep red roses with a raindrops shining on their petals, like a tiny jewels. The roses are in full bloom, and they look and smell stunning and magical. The atmosphere of the place and time makes this impression even stronger... like they are out of this world, or from a vivid dream you want to dwell on. Mysterious, mesmerizing and incredibly beautiful - the Roses of No Man’s Land. 🌹✨🌌

I like to visit the local TJ Maxx and check out their fragrance selection. I noticed the 100 ml bottle of Byredo Rose of No Man's Land, and I was intrigued. I had seen that brand before, but not in person, and I had seen clones of their bottles. I ended up buying that bottle, and I used it at my wedding on the 24th last month. So far it's one of my favorite rose fragrances! I also love the bottle, because the bottom is engraved, and it's nice and deep and legible. I get annoyed when I buy an expensive fragrance, and the bottom is just a sticker. I love how the Louis Vuitton bottles are engraved on the bottom, but it's not very deep. My bottle of Chanel Le Lion is the only other one I have so far with comparable engraving to this Byredo bottle. I love the rose scent in LV Ombre Nomade, but I've noticed how it has kind of a green olive scent in Portrait of a Lady, and it kinda smells like an old lady in Oud Silk Mood Extrait. I love how the rose scent in Rose of No Man's Land is more subtle and has a nice, realistic rose scent. I've only had this fragrance for a few weeks, but it's probably tied with Ombre Nomade for my favorite rose scent.

Okay, okay listen, I’ve concocted a beautiful rose combo simply because of this fragrance. I’ll share it because I know if you like rose scents this may be a thing you try. This isn’t an old lady rose, it’s much more young and fresh? Flirty? Maybe both. It’s definitely complex. I’ve yet to smell a Byredo scent that’s simple. If you love a good rose, you’ll love this. So anyways, what you’re going to get for the first layer is Nest Turkish Rose Oil, it’s a beautiful rose scent as well, put it on however you wear your perfumes and oils, I won’t judge, next spray Byredo. This pairs SO nicely. Rose of No Man’s Land and Nest Turkish rose come together beautifully. However, like many people have mentioned it’s not groundbreaking. It’s a good rose scent, absolutely, and I do like it but the price point is just rough. If you have disposable income and can afford this great! Do the above stated combo! But I mentioned above another Rose scent that’s much more affordable and lovely on its own. I personally don’t think it’s worth almost $300. I’ve been using a sample.

This was gifted to me by my sister when she asked me what i wanted for my birthday but i got it as a surprise because I was set to buy it the week of my birthday when the package arrived. This started my search for niche fragrances I like. I feel like my full bottle has lasted me a long time. On my skin it lingers all throughout the day with four sprays. I can’t say that with most of my perfumes. For the sake of sentiment and memories I have made with this perfume.... I give it a 5/5. But overall from my honest opinion and thinking about what others experience with this perfume it is 4/5 I think when purchasing a perfume or anything, it’s not just your opinion that matters. I think this is true for life in general. Your opinion matters but it’s not the only true opinion. There are a LOT of rose perfumes out there, you can find one that matches your taste. I find that rose scents tend to calm me down so some of my rose perfumes, i wear at night before bed. Other rose perfumes i adore: diptyque eau rose, tom ford cafe rose, l’occitane figuer & rose 86

A coworker wore this to work, and it smells absolutely AMAZING on her! It made me so happy & content every time I was near her. A soft, sweet, lightly spiced yet very subtle rose, with a warm, velvety berry cushion...I smell ambery sandalwood too, although sandalwood isn't listed as a note...subtle, elegant, warm, sexy and beautiful...just like her! I respect the "Fragrance Code of Ethics" and would never steal a signature scent from a friend, but Man! I would sure like to! Add: My work friend gave me a sample of this, and it makes me so happy to put on when I get home from work and put on my snuggly clothes 💕 I really do love it! I pretend I don't cause it's so bloody expensive, but if I suddenly had a big bottle of it, I would wear it a LOT!

this is my first fragrance from the house of byredo and guess what? i am impressed! i normally wear fragrances that marketed towards men or unisex - masculine leaning scents, but this one is one of my exceptions. RoNML is an unisex frag but leans more towards feminine side for sure, but i don't mind if men also wear this! the amber and roses blend perfectly here, giving such a warm feeling. there's something magical in the drydown where musky scent starts to steal the show. can't stop smelling my own left hand, not only bcs it smells so damn good but it also reminds me of my gf. then i realized that it smells similar to her body wash. don't get me wrong, i love RoNML!! such a lovely scent and i'll absolutely wear this fragrance

One of my favorite rose fragrances, and I own a lot of them - clean, inoffensive, and perfectly sophisticated. i want my house to smell like this. unisex, office-safe, probably because it honestly kind of smells like when you walk into a best buy store (in the best way possible). it's not your typical feminine, youthful rose, but it's definitely not a mature, older rose either. it's something in between: RONML offers a new side to the rose: woody, modern, and sharp. my only problem with it the same problem I have with all byredos (except for the night veil extraits), which is poor longevity for the price. even with layering, I find myself going through bottles of this way too quickly.

On my trip with roses, lately, I'm searching and looking desperate to find the most interesting 🤔 roce center perfumes. This one is quite interesting. On my skin, it is very earthy, a little dark, serious and i believe it's probably the papyrus note that dancing secretly with the deep red roses. The only problem that i have is the longevity. I need this formula but more intensive. I order the body lotion to support the perfume. A month of trying this perfume and i insist this rose is for non rose 🌹 lovers. Antique roses, so much character, you can feel ghosts around you ❤️ dark and beauty ❤️

I agree with prior reviewers that this feels like an introvert scent. Something you put on for yourself in a cozy sweater and nice cup of tea or I love falling to sleep with it. It feels like rose after the rain. There’s a clarity to this perfume and no powdery-ness. Maybe like somewhere between a wet rose and only slightly sweetened rose jelly. It’s SO evocative for me. It just stirs this inner solace and slight melancholy (in a me-time solitary rainy day kind of way). I’m enjoying layering it with Zara Ebony Wood. Somehow, the combination is pure rapture.

I really adore this fragrance. It is a very pleasant rose without being too spicy or airy or feminine or even dirty like Rose 31. Wearing this through my work day makes me feel refined in a way. After initially testing the 6 in the Nomade set, I immediately singled out Bibliotheque because I think it's amazing, but after wearing this a few times I might just have to get this as well. Lasts me a full work shift and I get nice whiffs of it every so often, not overpowering or too faint. Just something that reminds me that I smell great every so often. 10/10.

The rose note is interpreted very differently in this perfume. If you ever smelled Turkish roses of Isparta you would know how soft and only a little sweet the rose smells. Rose note in this perfume is very realistic and it is accompanied by a pink pepper note which makes it way more beautiful. And in the deep, there is something almost creamy but I am not sure which note it is. This one was blind buy ended well for me. But I would highly recommend try before purchase. This is not everyone’s cup of tea. Can be worn anywhere / anytime.

This is a rose fragrance in a league of it's own. It's perfectly unisex in my opinion, perhaps even a tad masculine leaning on my skin. Bold yet delicate, airy spicy fresh. The rose is so perfectly balanced here, it has an almost jammy quality to it but the papyrus and pepper rounds it out to never really take it too much in one direction - and your nose never quite lands. It's always dancing with this one. It has a bit of a mystique to it and if it didn't have such sad performance, this would be my favorite from Byredo.

Ok - I REALLY like it. It feels soft and familiar. What I realized though is that it reminds me of some type of rose scented product (soap? oil?) that you might find in a random apothecary store. I'm thinking little plastic bottle with pink roses on it. Now this may mean that this specific scent is actually ubiquitous, OR that Byredo's perfume is an up-scaled version of what I am only imagining in my head. In either case I don't think it can excuse the price for what is just a simple, nice and rounded soliflore.

I have an oil version of this from Dubai, I read the name a reviews and thought it was interested. Never have I endorsed a floral fragrance like this before. It's quite a linear scent (OIL) but it opens warm, clean, and very rosy. as it dries down it becomes this airy, clean, pleasant rose scent. I find it to be a perfect unisex. It smells a little bit sweeter on my skin but muskier on my brother's. It really compliments the wearer's natural scent. Classic rose, unisex, pleasant. 10/10 recommend.

I am on my second decant of this and I think it is one of my favourite rose fragrances out there. I even prefer this over the absolu version. This lasts all day on me and I love catching a whiff of it on my clothes its a fun fresh rose rather than a powdery one and I am here for that. Its definitely one for the cooler sunny days its a scent that reminds you that summer is around the corner. I love wearing this and its full bottle worthy for me one of my favourite Byredo's.

Excuse me for beeing cynical.. But..; Serge Lutens made a rose scent as a tribute for the strong woman in Berlin after the second world war.., 2 years later Byredo launches a very similar rose scent as a tribute for the nurses in the first world war... A bit copy-past copywriter fairytale and sales pitch.. Do it without this stupid "worldwar one" idle talk and there you have just a very nice spicy rose scent. I' ve got a lot of compliments for this perfume.

I’m so glad I went with my gut on this one, it’s a banger... love the smell of it, love how it makes me feel. Soapy Rose and Raspberry on my skin there is almost a coldness which after reading reviews I can see how some people call it dark/damp. My impression is more of a metallic rose maybe that’s just my body chemistry but whatever it is works. I was looking for more of a Rose 31 by le labo but this actually works better!!

This is a blind buy purchase-I thought I'll give it a try as I love the story behind it. Didn't know what to expect to be honest, so many mixed reviews here. But from the first spray I'm in love with this. On my skin it's fresh, soapy rose with some spice...not mature rose in any way. I prefer this to Bal d'Afrique. I wear this on a cold February morning and it lasts 4h+ on my skin so far. I recommend this 👌 👏 👍

When I was in my teens and 20s, I didn't like rose scents, I prefered mostly vetiver or woody notes. But now I'm super addicted to roses. While Penhaligon's Elizabethan rose is realistic rose, this one is softer, more elegant, feel like a duchess. Not too classic, not too modern. It's just enough for a lady. Office friendly, all seasons. If village was stronger, it would be great.

This is a versatile spicy sweet soapy rose that feels modern with a slight nod to nostalgia. It’s clean but still romantic, not powdery or overly soft. Worn on skin it feels put together without trying to be seductive. I see this on someone young at heart but grounded. This is what I wear as a wedding guest scent when I want to feel intentional, polished, and quietly feminine.

This smells vintage. I've definitely smelled something just like this when I was a kid. What is it? It's aromatic, light, balanced, woody, clean, floral, delicate. This scent has old origins and is very likable. It reminds me of the light green bottle of Chloe, but this is less sharp and more-rounded with a touch of warmth and sweetness that is absent in the Chloe. 8.5/10

This is my dream rose. The beginning is a rounded out sweet red berry on a red red rose. It doesn't smell like rose water or powdery at all. It's when you have your face down in the rose and you breathe in DEEP. This smells red and velvety. Beautiful amber base. Reminds me a teeny bit of Rose Anonyme, but not as dry or spicy/textured. I need a full bottle ASAP.

The raspberry bloom really works here without going too sweet (Bulgari Fiori d’Amore, another rose and raspberry combo, leans a little too far that way in my opinion, for example, though I like that too). The pepper might be what keeps this from being too candied. Well balanced. Not groundbreaking or especially challenging, but are we sure we really want that?

Ever since buying Hanni Water Balm I have been on the search for a perfume that smells similar, I even emailed the brand hoping they would turn their signature scent into a EDP! This right here is about a 85% match, which is close enough for me to stop searching for herbal rose scent profiles. This perfume is so clean and calming. I adore it.

One of my favorite fragrances! It’s SO good, feminine and isn’t a one dimensional rose fragrance. It’s good for day or night time wear, you can wear this to work or to go out, it’s a very clean, universal rose fragrance. i don’t get any ‘dark’ notes in this fragrance, i think it’s one of those fragrances that smells differently on all people

Got this for my hubby, this is a very clean floral which I think can be unisex. A very nice mellow elegant fragrance for women, but some guys can definitely pull this off. This last for 7+ hours during winter, arms length projection, leaves a mild trail. Not your generic rose fragrance, it’s fresh yet slightly spicy, very nice on the nose.

It smells just like Hanni's splash salve...which I adore. In a world where all i want is a realistic rose petal scent, but all i get is "rose + everything else on earth," this is finally my chosen one. I'm not against rose as a note within a larger concept, but sometimes a soliflore is exactly what captures a particular memory.

If anyone knows of something like this that lasts longer, take my money It smells like the personification of 'wistfulness' to me sweet! a little sad! but so pretty! the smell is so faint / goes away so quickly that it's hard for me to justify the price. I would bathe in this scent if I could though lol

This is more a feminine scent rather than unisex. It’s a very beautiful perfume, the rose is not too chemically or sharp (for me). When I smell it on my wrist I imagine a rose wrapped in honey, which it sounds weird, because in the notes there is not honey but amber:). Unique perfume in my collection🤍✨

I never thought I'd ever like a rose perfume only because most of them smell too mature, but this is a totally different rose. It's slightly spicy but still really fresh. It lasts a really long time which I can't say for many other Byredo perfumes other than Bibloteque. A 9/10 for me.

every “i hate rose perfumes” type of person will have that one rose perfume that’ll change the game for them, this was mine, it’s such a pretty rose scent with a gorgeous dry down, it feels very princessy.. the only downside is the poor sillage and longevity :(

I hate rose fragrances but oh man this is BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish the first few minutes of this perfume lasts forever.... It’s smoky, woodsy & rosy for a few minutes and then dry down into a somewhat mainstream to my nose. But it’s still beautiful regardless!!

a sucker for pink pepper and florals. smells like a young rose--i initially thought i could smell the greenness. the rose ages as worn, the dry down ends up more earthy and woody, but not in a dead way. it's kind of magical and i like it a lot.

From a non rose perfume lover this is a keeper. It's so fresh and perfectly unisex. This would be great for someone that wants a modern smelling rose perfume. I get about 6 to 7 hours , moderate projection. I over spray my Perfumes just an FYI.

Bought this for a relative and could smell one spray from across the room! I'm not into rose scents but this is an exception - a clear, slightly sweet, very fresh smelling rose. I don't get incense or spicy old lady vibes. It's really nice.

I cannot afford the original, but I have tried an inspired scent called Lens, and if it's accurate, this is a really lovely warm cosy friendly slightly spicy rose. Very unique and high end, makes me smile whenever I smell it.

This is perfect for dark and gloomy autumn days like Today! It evokes a rose bouquet in a crypt. Deep, dark and earthy. Almost dead, like old stones in a church. A bit spicy and intriguing. Perfectly fits the name.

I really love this rose scent. It's not an artificial rose scent that you get with most mainstream rose perfumes, it's an actual warming-spicy comforting smell that can be used for both men and women.

Really beautiful rose scents. Very vintage, it reminds me of Spiky muse by Ex Nihilo. Very feminine but at the same time unisex. One of the better rose scents I smelled. It’s very timeless.

I am a huge fan of rose fragrances and this is done very very well. Just a nice year round scent, however not very unique for the price point. Just an overall pleasant fragrance though.

Sterile cotton ball soaked in sweet rose oil with a drop of disinfectant. I like smelling it on others more than on myself, as the scent becomes harsher the closer you smell it.

Tried this on at Saks yesterday and could not stop smelling myself. This is a fresh rose scent and lasted on my skin for more than 10 hours. Definetly will be my next purchase.

I absolutely adore Rose of No Man's Land. Sweet but refreshing rose, with a hint of lychee. Quite linear, but in a good way. A crowd pleaser, really, and my go to scent. 10/10.
