Seven Veils

I'm so happy that I finally got a sample of this in a swap, it's so rare and nowhere to be found. I asked a Byredo representative about it a couple of years ago and she had no idea it even existed. And now that I have smelled it, I agree that it's a crying shame that this was discontinued. The notes on fragrantica are not quite correct. The true notes are carrot and allspice in the top, wisteria and oleander in the heart, vanilla and sandalwood in the base. No rose, pink pepper or orchid are listed and I don't smell anything like that either. But the accords on the top of this page describe the scent well: Powdery, soft spicy, vanillic and floral. In the opening the carrot note shines. It's earthy, herbal and truly a little weird, but fun, and it doesn't stay for long. The allspice does though. In my native language (German) allspice is called "Piment", but I think the English word describes this spice much better, as it unites facets of different spices like cinnamon and cloves. Together with the light, almost-but-not-quite creamy vanilla and the soft florals it gives me an impression of carnations in the drydown. Just a little more vanillic. What a lovely surprise this is! I buy small, light pink carnation plants for my balcony every spring and love their scent. But carnation as a perfume-note rarely smells like the real thing. I wouldn't have expected it here, but it makes sense, as carnations have a powdery floral scent with hints of vanilla and cloves. I'm not sure how wisteria and oleander smell like in real life, but this blend is beautiful. This is a relatively dry scent, but has an airiness to it that keeps it from going dusty. It's slightly sweet without sugary or syrupy notes. It really feels like a semi-transparent veil around me, a bit mysterious, but not dark. Unique and gorgeous.

ENG / An unexpected discovery forgotten for a decade in my mother's toilet drawer, there's little more than a finger's worth left, and it's a real shame. The opening is dry and spicy, the overlapping floral notes, along with pink pepper and sandalwood, create the illusion of a sharp clove note that immediately fades, giving way to vanilla, and that's where the beauty begins. The fragrance evolves like a unique vanilla that I would almost hesitate to define as gourmand, with a complexity that reminds me of a blended whiskey. The sweetness lingers but is accompanied by a uniquely powdery touch. The effect is warm and cozy, a perfect interplay of spices, flowers, and vanilla that softly settles on the creaminess of sandalwood. It's truly a pity that Seven Veils was destined to remain just a beautiful memory in the history of the house. Un vero peccato Seven Veils sia stato destinato a rimanere solo un bel ricordo nella storia della casa.

Strangely addictive ! ,,,,the carrot note gives it an unusal twist from most vanilla perfumes out there and the orchid gives it this lightly synthetic plastic / vanilla ( thinking doll heads) powdery , vanilla smell that orchids have, the vanilla note is sweet and comforting and the wisteria has a slight spicy clove smell that makes a harmonious combination with the carrots. I agree it smells a little bit like a carrot cake , which is a favourite treat of mine. It's quite an addictive fragrance, and it's tempting to buy , almost SAVORY What I really like about this perfume is that it's a light fluffy vanilla gourmand that is not heavy and cloying nor sticky and not too sweet like some other vanilla gourmands ,it's more airy and fluffy . In fact more SAVORY than gourmand. Not thick, Not sticky, Not overy sweet. My favourite Byredos are Black Saffron and 1996. I like Tiwaliis review below, I forgot to mention about the yummy sandalwood that makes for a nice vanilla woody drydown. The review above me is right on. This is exactly what seven veils smells like ! A spiced up vanilla with an oddly attractive vegetal note. .... And whatever else she said is absolutley right on ! Now I smell this fragrance different and like it even better , it smelles very natural now after reading her review. ,,, ok well from plastic vanilla to natural, big jump I know ,,, I supose our head can play tricks with us and we smell what we associate oders and fragrance with. The mind, a powerful thing ! Cheers ! Update , husband associates this to a smoky spicy vanilla candle. He doesn't like it :( again ,,,,

So happy to have found a bottle of this for a decent price. I've been searching for it ever since my sister wore a sample and I was blown away by how incredible she smelled-- it smelled like an airy vanilla on her, but on me it smells like a mix between carrot cake and gingerbread. If the perfume was called "Spice Cake" it would have been spot on. I don't see spices listed in the notes, maybe it's the pink pepper & sandalwood? My husband said I smelled "christmasy" up close, but from across the room he smelled less spice and more vanilla. I prefer skin scents, and you can't normally smell my perfume from across the room, but this one is the exception. I only need one spray. Only for fall-winter for sure. It's a warm, spicy, fluffy vanilla that's not too sweet. I smell orris even though it's not listed, it might be part of the carrot accord which I love. This is absolutely stunning wafting around me and smells way better in the air than up close against the skin. If I stick my nose against my wrist I smell clove-- which I hate-- but since I'm not sniffing my wrist all day I still love the perfume. It moves with me so beautifully. This is really something unique and special.

YES! Carrot cake! I totally get that. The carrot note is so strong and evident, but there's also this creamy vanilla smell that smells like cake frosting. I get the sandalwood heavily as well, it lends a milky wood smell that barely shines through the sweetness, but it's there. Pink pepper gives a hint of spice, I would've guessed cinnamon or nutmeg, but pepper it is. It's only a hint of spiciness that breaks up the sugar overkill. As Seven Veils dries down, the vanilla becomes more lactonic, it sort of reminds me of the old school L'Artisan Vanilla fragrance (although that one turned a little too milky on me and turned into baby vomit). This is just so well done. I can't believe I had the opportunity to snag a 100ml bottle of this off someone for a steal and jumped on it. The prices I could resell this for are tempting, but I am so in love I could not sell this and let it go. I feel like gollum and this is my precious. I will hoard this and sneak sprays on those days I'm craving a gourmand vanilla that is interesting and exciting to the senses.

Without having seen the notes ahead of time, this smelled like an exotic and potentially seductive blend of spice, sandalwood, and amber. Now that I see carrot seed, it makes perfect sense. I think carrot seed is the note that stands out most on my skin. While it is a spicy scent, it is not spicy in the way that Opium or Cinnabar are. The spice is thinner and much more subdued, not over-the-top. There is an utterly enchanting swirl of fresh flowers in the heart. Seven Veils reminds me of the scene in The Ten Commandments when Moses stays with the Shiek of Midian. The Shiek encourages Moses to choose one of his daughters for a bride, so the ladies entertain them and dance about in their gossamer dresses. I imagine they might wear this perfume. And if I remember correctly, there were seven daughters. I love Seven Veils. It's fairly unique and has the sweet & spicy thing going for it, and those kinds of perfumes are my weakness.

It’s a shame that this scent is discontinued.... This i a truly unique fragrance and you sure will feel that you’re wearing it, and others will too cause it’s a strong projector! To me this smells like rum and coke spiced with cinnamon and vanilla, but I wouldn’t say it’s a true gourmand cause it still has some floral notes to it. It isn’t your typical vanilla scent, it has much more depth and spice than that. I can imagine not everyone liking this because of it’s uniqueness, but so far I’ve gotten compliments almost everytime I’ve worn it. My boyfriend loves it too and uses it sometimes. For a Byredo fragrance this sure has great longevity but mainly a strong sillage cause it fills a room easily. I love Bal D’afrique for an example but on my skin I can barely smell it after an hour. With Seven Veils I enjoy it a good 6-8 hours on the skin and it stays on the clothes for days.

I went to the Byredo counter today. Gypsy was the first to catch my nose, but in the end, Seven Veils was the only one that moved me enough to try on my skin. Intrigued by its boozy/watery vanilla, I sprayed two generous spritzs on my wrist. I went on with my day entranced with this scent. The florals come out soon enough—I would have guessed tuberose, but apprently it's orchid? Hmm. I also can't make out the carrot, rose or pink pepper. Usually pink pepper turns to pencil shavings on me, but not here. The drydown is the icing on the cake—literally. My skin is left smelling creamy and sweet, like a perfect white icing. Not sure if I'd buy a bottle because of the price, but I will definitely test it again with an “all-over” spray to make sure whether I need to start saving my nickels.

A very special and unique spiced-up vanilla. The red pepper and carrot notes give it a naughty piquant feel with an oddly attractive touch of vegetal pungency. Like the seductive Salome, who served as inspiration for this perfume, Seven Veils conveys a certain self-confident playfulness which is loaded with sex-appeal. It's not your typical sweet creamy vanilla. It's peppery, it's mischievous and quite lively. In fact to my nose there's more orchid in there than plain vanilla - it's more floral than dessert. Seven Veils wears nicely in all seasons but the super hot summer days and it's a fabulous companion for everyday wear. It will perk you up and make your eyes sparkle. Longevity is great - 12h+ on me - with pleasant, noticeable sillage all throughout.

I bought this fragrance in Sydney for the first time in 2014. I was so taken by it, and the story. I love perfumes that transport you. This is one of those fragrances. Its the only bottle I've ever bought two of, its just that unique. I imported it from Sweden for a very hefty price tag just to get my paws on it and I'm down to my last few mls. I then bought Bal D'afrique but couldn't finish the bottle because I just end up always wanting to wear the warm spicy accords. This is delicious but not gourmand, the smell borders on ambery. I love the red pepper for the extra kick this has. Its just beautiful. They should bring it back as an extrait or something instead of all those tobaccos..

Aaaah, this is so yummy. One of Byredos absolute best compositions, I think. Seven Veils opens with a surprising and rather funny carrot note. It is followed by a sting of pimento/allspice, which gives the scent a spicy yet fresh feel. Then the real magic begins. Vanilla flower and vanilla bean teams up and creates a wonderful soft cloud of sensual goodness to fall into. Pleasant floral notes and smooth sandalwood brings the scent to a creamy and delicious finish. Seven Veils is safe and intriguing at the same time. Alluring, yet playful and innocent. And it has a lot of fascinating layers - the name is fitting. Plus it lasts really long on my skin. A new favourite of mine!

My all time favourite. All I have to say are the words of praise. I have always disliked classic, heavy, powdery vanilla scents and Seven Veils made me fall in love with vanilla by giving it such lightness. When I first came across it I fell in love and two years later it's still going strong. As I said before, the vanilla is prominent, but very light. I do love the fact that when it's just applied, unlike most of the perfume, it doesn't smell alcohol-like, but it has a strong pepper opening. It lasts for days and I could smell it in my hair, even 2 days after not applying it. Seven Veils just keeps on seducing me.

This was gifted to me by a dear friend. I didn't look up notes and this is what I wrote down: Boozy Vanilla Bread/cake gourmand accord Peppery This smells like those liquer filled candies. As you bite in you are also surrounded by the aroma of a carrot cake nearby. It has the same aromachemical that is utilized in Baraonda, and Single Malt. It shares neighborhoods with them, but it's on its own street and in a very distinct address/house. Uniqueness 9/10 Longevity 8/10 (gourmands should have longevity of over 9 hours, this is just 6-7). Affordability: 6/10 Overall: 8.5/10

Finally found this rare gem, can't express my joy now. It is everything I remember it to be. Carroty, edible but not cloying nor sweet. Iris done right. This right here is the best job Byredo ever had laid on the table for others to enjoy. They discontinued it too quickly and replaced it with bunch of mediocre releases. Ones who know this priceless aroma, never forget. There is nothing out there that came even remotely close. I see comparisons to ELDO. I own both, they are nothing alike. There is only one seven veils.

I only have an old sample plus a small decant that I’m enjoying very much lately. This is one of these perfumes that should not have been discontinued. To me it reminds me of my grandma making her famous carrot cake, spices and all. I’m not sure if I’m imagining the cream cheese frosting or there really is a hint of it in here. I really enjoy the spices in here! Not a full on gourmand but a beautiful perfume to wear. Would be perfect for the Fall and Winter because while it’s not too heavy, it leans that way.

Beautiful, unconventional, spicy, sweet, skin-but-better scent. Not quite edible gourmand which is a favorite I am finding. I get the "carrot cake" vibe but it's not too sweet once it dries down. Very unique. Absolutely love. Too bad it's discontinued as it's a new signature scent for me. Alas! A pretty good dupe I found is called Seven Secrets on Etsy; not as dark as this one but definitely scratches my nose and brain in a similar way. Also a little less headache inducing which is def an overall plus.

Absolutely loving this one! For me this is perhaps the most unique of the line. The vanilla base is lovely, warm, powdery and sweet without cloying. The carrot and pepper makes for an interesting spicy punch that is nicely juxtaposed with the rich cashmere-esque vanilla base. The exotic flowers are just enough to giving that "je ne sais quoi" factor. Weird and wonderful with a touch of familiarity. Great early autumn contender (or late winter if you will). Big thums up! 9/10

If I could put fall in a bottle this would be it. Notes aside,this is such a comforting beautiful fall fragrance. I wore it out yesterday to an art gallery opening and got 3 compliments right off the bat, that very rarely happens at these events because everyone has a perfume on and it gets a little cloying, but not with this one. My advice is to go and smell it yourself because I'm telling you this is stunning.

Seven Veils perfume is absolutely amazing..... I love it from the initial spray right down to the warm, sensual dry down. I sprayed it on my neck and some in my hair to make the fragrance linger.....I could still smell it the next morning. It's so Gorgeous and glam. I love the tiger orchid, sandalwood and creamy vanilla. Fantastic and so very original!

The way I envision this in my head is if a doll’s head were to be scented with vanilla, carrots, and a tiny spice. That’s the best way I can describe it. Definitely not a bad thing. I don’t feel as though this has almost any sillage though. I sprayed on the back of my hand maybe 4 times, and I have to put it up to my nose.

i am tirelessly on the hunt for the perfect carrot cake scent. most others have some sort of frosting accord, which is totally fine, but this is special because it doesn’t pull too gourmand. the florals add the sweet, and balance out an otherwise very dry fragrance. byredo, if you’re listening, bring this beauty back

Stargazer Lily, through and through. I am so disappointed this has been discontinued, I cannot even get a sample anywhere. Amazingly, I have just discovered KayAli Lovefest Burning Cherry, and to my absolute delight- it reminds me so much of Seven Veils, albeit a bit powderier.

Testing my sample; artisanal carrot cake infused with a boozy vanilla accord, powdery spices, and covered with flowers. Perfectly autumnal, cool/cold weather only. I would consider a full bottle for this but it's sadly discontinued.

Deliciously spiced sweet carrot cake topped with a delicate dusting of whimsical florals. It's addictive and warming, and I'm so happy to own it.

i remember when i first smelt this i found it to be really strong and really boozy i remember asking myself why would anyone wanna smell like they just spilt whisky or something on themselves but back then my nose wasn’t as sophisticated as it is now and after finally coming around to this scent after so long i now understand its appeal seven veils opens with a strong blast of carrots and some sort of boozy accord which to the untrained or not so adventures soul would be very off-putting but if your able to look past the opening you’ll slowly start to find other notes which tie it all together the vanilla that underlines the carrot is really pleasant but at the heart of the scent when the sprinkles of the pink pepper and sandalwood start to show there face it all slowly starts to make scene as to why this scent is loved by many of the byredo patrons id say even those this is classified as a unisex i wouldn’t want to see my significant other wearing this since i find it more on the masculine side of the spectrum longevity and projection is another one of its characteristics that i believe drives people to love for this scent since its on the same level as pulp in that regard this is nothing short of being called beast mode if you ask me but even with all its positives I’m still going to have to pass on this one since its just to heady for me and i can’t see myself wearing this often but if your into boozy scents like i am still dive right in and try this one out on to the next

« Salome dances the dance of the seven veils » What a performance ! This is so many things yet things that have a similar DNA. Red velvet cake, Tictacs, even makeup to some extent. It’s still not naive or young though, it’s got a certain aura of a calm maturity. Seven Veils is dominated by a carroty/oaty vanilla, supported by a quiet pepper (doesn’t actually smell like pepper but you can sense a soft spice to it). I personally don’t get the sandalwood. Florals however have a very powdery "iris" rooty vybe to them ! It’s quite addictive, at first I was repulsed by the overly evident vanilla, but it’s a comforting one ! Within Byredo’s house, this is one of the best performance I’ve experienced. It projects powerfully and clings to your skin for a whole 7-8 hours. Never encountered a Byredo with that power lol. Although it has a proud sillage, Seven Veils remains closer to a caress than a tornado. Definitely a feminine perfume but a man could easily wear it.

I don't want to leave a proper review for this one, because I don't think there's a way to actually describe the scent! It definitely holds it's own, and is 100% NOT comparable to any other fragrance out there. I wouldn't wear it, but I appreciate it's far-out-there unique beauty. I was looking back at the 'notes' I wrote on this when I first tested Seven Veils & I had a good laugh: "Unbearably pepper-based, and so much spice present! Not much vanilla here, not very sweet at all... except earthy sweetness, almost like a pheromonal sweat, carrot cake, and woodsy Big Red chewing gum. Really interesting, but I don't think I care to smell like the inside of an old dresser." So hopefully that gives somebody an interesting depiction of this fragrance!

I heard this was discontinued, and that's a real shame, but I do understand why it wouldn't be a bestseller - I was surprised by how much I like it, but it definitely smells weird. And although I've come around to admiring this weirdness, I'm still not entirely comfortable with the idea of smelling like carrots, sugar and incense (which is what it comes down to in the early parts of the development), however well that combination works in practice. Too bad, because this is probably one of the best Byredos I've tried, in many other regards as well. For one thing, it lasts easily all day, which is exceptional for this line, and the drydown is a gorgeous vanilla with some traces of incense. And I also love the name Seven Veils...

This is a strange one which is nice coming from the otherwise plain house of byredo. It’s a smooth scent starting with a hit of boozy whiskey (Japanese highball vibes) and that lingers with a faintly sweet powdery vanilla. Then it turns almost vegetal with some carrot notes and subtle spices. I almost want to say it’s a gourmand. It’s something you want to keep smelling though maybe not in a “I love it!” way but more in a “I don’t know what I’m smelling and I don’t know if I like it but I wanna keep smelling it kinda way. Longevity is not bad and floats around in the air quite a bit. An interesting scent to bring out on a day where you feel perhaps slightly uninspired and needs a bit of spicing up.

Ok...this is very far off my scent profile BUT I love it! Very fall fragrance for sure. It literally makes me picture sitting in front of the fire with cinnamon hot cocoa! This fragrance opens up with a brilliant very soft wisteria and pink pepper tango! Then the middle note of sandalwood and soft vanilla reminds me of nutmeg! This is an explosion of fall into winter fragrance for me to be worn at night. This fragrance is attention grabbing at the right non-expected moment. I love the fragrance you can smell yourself that brings a sense of "the day is over." Byredo, to me, is very "off the wall" and not like any other house! I have to say you hit a home run with this one!

After a cheeky carrot opening, Seven Veils is a light Gajar Halva scent (a sweet indian carrot pudding with spices). The carrot note here is carroty but not earthy/rooty/dirty, more of a sweet but quirky vegetal note. It's paired with vanilla and some indistinct floral powdery soft notes (doesn't smell specifically like rose or wisteria to me). There must be spice notes (cinnamon, clove?) that aren't listed, but they're mild. It projects strongly at first but fades fairly quickly. I expected something sensual or lustful because of the name, but this scent is vague, innocent, dreamy and quirky - a perfume for Luna Lovegood. Like.

Something in the opening of this reminds me of an apple crumble. The carrot pulls a bit sweet, and the combination of pink pepper and sandalwood reads as cinnamon initially. As it dries down it morphs into a soft, spicy carrot cake scent. This is like nothing else I've ever smelled, which is unfortunate because it's all but impossible to acquire these days. It has this vintage elegance to it. It's gourmand without being *too* gourmand. It's unexpected. It's intriguing. Sadly my little decant is all I'll ever have, so I only wear it every once in a while.

The opening is vegetal carrot/orris with vanilla and pepper. It is pretty unique, but strange. In 5 minutes I begin to pick up a whiskey note and lots of powdery vanilla in the background. I like that the vanilla here is not very sweet, it's a smoked vanilla. After the whiskey accord is gone, I am left with what I can describe as a carrot and vanilla desert. So I could categorize this as a gourmand. Scent: 6/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection: 6/10

an okayish perfume from otherwise overrated byredo, this one actually has excellent longevity and heavy sillage (do not spray it on garments) compared to other byredo perfumes (gypsy water, i am looking at you). carrot is there, but my perception of carrot would be more earthy and green, here it is sort of candied carrot. vanilla is cloying and overpowering other notes, but somehow it does not bother me, it is quite creamy and wearable.

So good!! This smells like carrot cake with a vanilla glaze. Not with frosting on it, just a little vanilla glaze. It doesn't sound like it would smell good as a perfume but it really does!!! It is very pretty and unique! I love this best in the fall or winter. This is the only carrot type scent that I will wear! Bravo, Byredo! Please bring this back so we won't have to sale our first born son or harvest a kidney just to buy it on Ebay!

top notes of carrot and pimento berries are ok but berries turn quickly into something else; middle notes are a little vanilla, overshadowed by the floral notes, with an odd, almost bitter/sharp/plasticky note—not awful, but not really pleasant to me. Base is a very nice, pleasant sandalwood/vanilla bean combo but not that unique or special. 3-3.5 stars (Out of 5)

To me it smelled like sweet honeysuckle, a very realistic one besides that. So you can imagine my surprise after checking here the notes! There's no honeysuckle in 7 veils, or nothing even remotely similar to honeysuckle... Sad. To my nose it smelled beautiful - regardless of the actual notes, and despite the negative reviews. I'll definitely revisit.

Overwhelming pepper and wisteria opening. Get past this and the sandalwood/vanilla/orchid dry-down is rather yummy. I would rather sniff it on a cuddly bloke than smell like it myself though:) L: Moderate/High S: Moderate

I just got my hands on a 100 ml Byredo Seven Veils. I like it, it’s nice but I don’t get the hype so I’m thinking of letting it go.

Byredo SEVEN VEILS offers a unique take on the oriental gourmand. In this case the composition opens very culinarily but rather than sweet, it is savory. I have no idea what causes the effect, but it looks to be the combination of the carrot and the pimento. The vanilla is very, very, low key--if detectable at all. I smell either clove or allspice in this mix, but it is not the usual sweet christmas cake presentation. Closer to the use of nutmeg to season spinach, it seems to me. I do believe that SEVEN VEILS is original, but it smells like something that a creative vegan chef might whip up in her kitchen. Perhaps a carrot-tofu loaf? Bon appetit! I don't know, but this one is not for me. It's just too foody to wear as a perfume. Some good news for those who like this creation: the longevity is excellent. This stuff is strong! In the far drydown, SEVEN VEILS evokes vague memories of Calvin Klein ETERNITY, so I'm guessing that it, too, packs a mighty punch of eugenol.

I'm not sure Bugs Bunny would wear this - even with the carrot note. SV begins with a heavy, syrupy mix of carrot & pimento, giving it a smooth, but darker overall feel. The heart notes join in with a mish-mash of florals. The pimento and carrot are now surrounded by a lighter feel, but still remain strong overall. Overall, my experience with this fragrance was just not good. On the one hand, it didn't necessarily smell bad up front, but I kept noticing that every time I wore SV, I kept wondering if I was wearing an old undershirt that I had forgotten to wash. I literally get whiffs of body odor whenever I wear this. Finally after a couple of wears of SV, I realized it was the fragrance and not me. I personally think SV smells like a carrot that has just done a robust workout with P90-x and is just sweating all over the place.

To me, the most pronounced note was "Monster High Doll". That sort of soft powdery chemical odor that you can whiff off-gassing from plastic children's toys. (edit: I should add that this is a type of note that I tend to be sensitive to and really pick up on. Needless to say, other people might not notice as much or be so averse). The other major hit I got was pumpkin spice, in a candle sort of way ie kind of fake/cheap smelling. I can't believe I'm saying this about anything Byredo, but yes, Seven Veils smells kind of cheap to me. I did also get a subtle but distinct hit of fresh carrots, which was interesting! But not necessarily desirable. Seven Veils doesn't last, on me. I bought a small decant. Don't feel bad if you can't find this lol. Didn't get any sandalwood or pepper. Did get vanilla, and it was a fine vanilla.

I sprayed this on and had to scrub after an hour. The vanilla registered as too sweet and cloyingly synthetic and overwhelmed the rest of the fragrance on me.. I've sampled a bunch of Byredos over the years and occasionally will come back for another try, but the one's I've tried all have this same cloying quality, no matter the notes. And(except for the names and bottle) find them no more inspiring than your ubiquitous dept store flankers of flankers. And the price is a bit steep for what they are.I think I've given up for now.

I wanted to love this based on its name alone and bought a decant after trying Rose of No Man's Land, which I absolutely adore. I put this on 10 mins ago and have just had to scrub it off, I have a headache already and I can still smell it. I wish my favorite frags would last like this! The opening blasted me with some kind of spice that I immediately didn't like. I tried to wait for it to subside and show me something nice but it didn't happen. I got no vanilla at all from this. It's a big NO from me. Back to scrubbing I go
