Sunday Cologne Eau de Cologne

I bought a sample of this to compare to the EdP version. For me, the opening of this one is more piney than the EdP, but other than that I find them expectedly similar. I also get similar performance on this as with the EdP. Byredos don't seem to last long at all, but i do genuinely enjoy Sunday Cologne. Both versions are great but I lean toward this one; it's a drier scent to me somehow which is nice.

A very weak scent, too bold, the worst of all Byredo's in my opinion

I love this. Byredo get so much derision on here and from the wider frag illuminati and I don't get the hate. I do understand what they are about: simple, not complicated fragrances with a defined theme, that are fresh and easy to wear but of high quality and extremely fine balance. They will all last you 4 hours plus but I've not found one that has the longevity or projection, beast mode performance of heavier, more complicated fragrances. There is nothing wrong with that, but they get absolutely hammered by so many for this. I don't get that, I really don't. If you want to top up, then top up. The bottles are not very big and fit nicely in your bag. If you don't, then enjoy the drydown. Most of them sit close to the skin after 4-5 hours and that is fine with me. I like skin fragrances. You don't need beast projection and eight weeks worth of performance from every fragrance you own. That isnt what you are paying for here, and it isnt what Byredo are about. It is niche and it is expensive, but you're paying for the fact that the scents are, almost without exception, lovely and clear, well-defined, sophisticated and finely curated using quality accords. Sunday Cologne reminds me a bit of Bergamotto di Calabria by AdP, but with a woodier, more cedary middle. A bit more grown up maybe. They arent the same but feel the same if that makes sense. The opening (as with so many Byredos) is a fairly intense affair and the beauty is in the drydown once it calms down. I have the vibe that the reason many complain about the performance of some of Byredo's fragrances is that that the opening is often so big and intense that it maybe doesn't manage expectations for some. They all calm down and chill after a while. Animalique takes only a few seconds and Sunday Cologne takes an hour or so, but the end result is the same. Sillage is impressive for a brand not known for this by virtue of the citrus bergamot and incense. You only get the mossy notes, the vetiver and cardamom after an hour or so on the skin and it gives this a delightfully non-linear progression that goes from so-bright-you-need-sunglasses opening citrus notes to a more sophisticated and classy centre and bottom but with the bergamot always there as the central theme. It is gloriously fresh and relaxed. There is no formality or drama here. It is the very definition of a chilled out Sunday morning in perfume form. Here in Dubai, the sunny notes and relaxed feel of it are in their natural habitat and once again, I feel that Byredo has made a gorgeous fragrance that I will wear a lot out here. It speaks to me in a way that Byredo doesnt speak to a lot of people, because I get what this is about and I get what they are about too. It's just super well done, super classy and super simple. The geranium dominates for me and the result is a boring dryer sheet smell. However it is damn smooth and evokes a feeling of sinking into plush clean bedding. Not sure if I would want to smell like this but it would work well to spray on your bedding before sleep. Longevity and projection are terrible. All in all, given the price this is a disappointment and I would never waste my money on a full bottle.
