Super Cedar

As usual, I speak too soon when it comes to Byredo compositions. Does it lend itself vertically? If that means providing a moment, temporary moment in time, where you can experience something on a different level than where your mind usually is stationed, I'll say yes. It is a modern fragrance reduced to its essentials. That I can agree with. It is very minimal-and within the concept, yes it can be considered modern. Pencil shavings in relation to nostalgia. It depends on who you ask. I would say over half of the population think pencil shavings, the smell thereof, leave a trail of stressful memories more so than a yearning nostalgia for the good old days. And the individuals who have fond memories of high school do not have those memories because of how well they did on their midterms. In fact, they probably have never even smelled fresh pencil shavings! Maybe pig skin. Maybe rubber. Maybe the smell of a brand new car interior junior year of high school. For me, it’s the smell of fresh lined paper right out of the plastic wrapper. Stacked perfectly in my brand new binder ready for the first stroke of my writing. As always, write the date and my name as perfectly as I can. It's all downhill from there. Unless I am writing a note to that guy a couple tables over. Now that is nostalgia. Super Cedar was able to put me in my mindset where I could write and imagine everything above with one vial. I think that speaks volumes.

Byredo Super Cedar is short and to the point. It opens with a light, airy rose that’s fresh and slightly green. There’s nothing sweet or jammy about it — just a soft floral lift that quickly gives way to a warm, dry cedarwood note that smells unmistakably like pencil shavings. There’s a dryness to this scent that builds over time, almost to the point where it makes my throat feel dry or slightly itchy. It’s warm, dry, and minimal. I would describe it as a delicate rose lightly dancing over a pile of wood shavings, while warmth settles in and fully dries out the cedar. At first, I thought this leaned very masculine — the rose seemed to vanish early on, and I was left with nothing but straight wood, like I’d just finished cutting down cedar trees. But over time, the rose started to come back and lingered more than I expected. I’d say this is a pretty unisex scent, leaning slightly masculine. Projection is on the moderate to low end, and for that reason, I see this working best in spring, summer, and fall — it just doesn’t have enough strength to push through the winter cold. This was also another bedtime scent for me, so I can’t fully speak on longevity yet. This is a subtle, stripped-back fragrance — not meant to shout. Definitely one for lovers of dry cedar, minimalist compositions, or those who appreciate rose in its most delicate, transparent form.

Fantastic fragrance. It's comfortingly woody and warm, but at the same it feels (re)fresh(ing) just due to how simple it is. It's such an isolated cedar scent — smelling it reminds me of the feeling of smelling the scent of a wooden facade on a new building, the scent of a new wooden countertop that hasn't been oiled yet, or a classic Swedish/Finnish wooden sauna. It feels very clean in the way breathing forest air feels, it's ”just” cedar with some vetiver and a hint of rose and musk. Most probably heavy on Iso E Super, which the name itself seems to imply. It might not be the fragrance one would choose to wear on a date night, but it really doesn't need to be. It's perfect as an everyday/office scent. Leans masculine. The sillage is intimate/moderate, it's not undetectable, but I'd be surprised if it managed to offend anyone. The longevity is, at least on my skin, surprisingly good; I got a little nose blind to it pretty quickly, thinking it had vanished, but whenever I smelled my wrist it was still there going strong for the entire day.

Today it was the second time I tried my sample and I loved it. The first time I considered it to be a masculine woody sharp perfume that could never suit me. Now I consider it to be my next signature scent! It is truly weak, but I was surprised by how beautiful, creamy and powdery, sweet woody, rosy this is. It reminds me of Delina Exclusif, which is too heavy for me, while this is more ethereal, more woody and not cloyingly sweet. I really believe scent is the most subjective thing, chemistry and memories, body and mind are all involved to interpret a smell, so try everything and don't limit yourself. Love! Edit: I am happy to add it turned out to be decent in longevity and I could smell myself for the first 3 hours, maybe more, with just two sprays ! (because I cherish my sample) One of my next full bottle purchase!

My husband fell in love with this scent at the Byredo Boutique in Stockholm. He ultimately purchased Tobacco Mandarin but this was the close second. The sales associate threw in a sample for him. I can recognize this every time he wears it from the projection and smell it on him all day. It’s one of those molecular scents. It’s fresh yet cozy and airy. There’s a slight rose in the opening but other than that, it’s a clean musky wood scent. One that makes me want to nuzzle up right where it was sprayed while cuddling. Byredo’s site says this should smell of pencil shavings... idk what they’re on. No pencil shavings here. I see how people compare to Cedre Atlas. However, Cedre Atlas is more spiced and citrus. It’s also stronger and has a scratchy texture compared to the airy cloud of Super Cedar.

This fragrance did nothing for me at first, but now I love it. Its a super casual almost sporty woody fragrance. Very chic. The projection and sillage is good to heavy. I dont believe this is weak on anybody, but it seems like the kind of fragrance that some people might have a hard time noticing. Especially if you have been out sniffing an testing other fragrances all day long. It almost works as Eccentric Molecules. Only with a big dose of cedar! It's warm, but also almost metallic. I dont get any rose, but if the rose is what gives it magic, keep it in there. A couple of people i know wear this fragrance. It allways gets noticed and complimented. Great job Byredo! 8 out of 10

I don't know if they changed anything in it. But I just bought a new bottle (batch from winter 2025) and I don't think the new one and my old bottle smell anywhere near the same (unfortunately as this is my no. 1 all time favorite) my old bottle is from 2019 (bought new in 2023 though) I think the new one opens up with a scent of hand sanitizer for a minute before the rose starts to come through. I also feel that the shelf life is crap. I get about 4 hours on my skin from my new bottle and 15-17 hours from the old one. I hope it's just something to do with the maturation and that my new bottle will smell the same as the old one in a while. But I'm actually disappointed.

This is such a soft, sexy scent. It is super sweet on my skin - maybe from the rose and the musk? I honestly thought there may have been vanilla in here and was surprised not to see it in the notes listed. I don’t get much vetiver but do get cedar which I love. Definitely a rose and musk scent for me. Gives Delina Exclusif vibes. I’m not usually a fan of rose at all but this is divine. More of a skin scent to me which suits my preference for subtlety. I can see that the votes say this is a very unisex fragrance which I tend to prefer but this, on me, leans quite feminine. Onto my third bottle - I will never not buy this.

I got a sample of this back in december. By then I thought it was lame and nothing special. Now some weeks ago I was in Vietnam for business and found this small sample in my toiletbag. With the heat and humidity in june in Hanoi this scent was like an explosion. BAAAM!! It ̊s woody and a touch of vetiver but yet sweet cedar and lasts forever. It actually feels rather sporty. I can not detect any rose which for me is a good thing. It`s trully fantastic in hot climates. I want a bottle of this right now for the summer. Update 2024; this has now been my signature scent since 5 years ❤️

This is amazing! I am in love with this fragrance right now. It is a perfect blend of unisex using cedar and musk as the dominant players with a underline of a non cloying rose. I love it when a fragrance like this comes out. Now to the reference to molecule 01. That fragrance didn't work on me..I smelt straight wood on someone it did though and this is wayyyy better than that. This is a first impression as I just got 10 samples in from Luckyscent .com . I hope it lasts long as I will be getting a full bottle of this asap

Very clean white rose scent, rounded out with with a simple pencil shaving-esq cedar. No real evolution or change as it wears, and though the scent is strong, it is light. I personally don’t get the overwhelming synthetic scent from this. I grew up in cedar forests and the smell is very evocative of my home, but with a certain minimalist scandi edge that I would expect from Byredo. Not nearly as fake or chemically as other reviewers might have you believe, I would give it a shot if you have the chance.

This review is based on how it smells on my girlfriend. It is a warm but dry rose/cedar perfume with a sweet musk in the dry down. The silage and longevity is insane, I can smell it the minute she walks through the door after a whole day at work. It’s casual chic but can honestly be worn to any occasion and year round. I think it’s sexy and always compliment her when she wears it. A true 10/10 (both the scent and my gf)!

Wait a minute for the rose. One of those fragrances that lets you wait for a while before it develops its first round. It is a unique mixture of floral and woody accords, reminding me of garden work in rose fields. Cedar here is not presented as extra, but it connects with the rose. If you collect rose perfumes, explore this one for sure.

the name SuperCedar is absolutely a troll. From the top to dry down, all you get is a smooth, inoffensive, clean and unisex floral smell with a hint of musk; my nose picked NO woods in this. This is a nice scent, but definitely not what you would expect from "SuperCedar". Don't go blind buy.

i love this fragrance! perfect for hot summer days but i can also envision it for cold weather wear. it smells like i wished molecule 01 smelled on me - which is already a good hot weather fragrance but this one is perfect. i don't get any rose at all and i am quite glad about that.

This is hands down one of the best fragrances I’ve ever had under my nose. Incredibly crisp and effervescent, it jumps off your skin. It’s masculine and a true work of art. The longevity is non existent, and this is coming from someone who prefers subtlety in fragrances.

Such a comforting scent , perfect for my after shower fragrance. This smells light and airy, there’s a certain sweetness to the fragrance coming from the rose; further paired with such a beautiful cedar and musk... it’s just so addictive. Really don’t get the hate

I really vibe with the Byredo DNA so this might be a bit biased. I love this scent! Super easy to wear, I especially enjoy it in the spring. Cedar with light citrus and musky undertones. Totally unisex. I personally get very good performance from my Byredos.

A blind buy, and not what I expected. I mistakenly thought this would be a seven foot stack of freshly sawn cedar planks, it isn’t. It is however a light, fresh sweet and extremely well blended fragrance. It will probably become a Spring and Fall favorite.

Sweeter than I expected, such an interesting combination of dewy rose petals and dry cedar wood. The cedad really shines through in lower temperatures, otherwise it's like a muted version of Rose of No Man's Land. Still fantastic though

what a scent ! this fragrance has a good mix of vetiver and cedarwood I did not catch rose note in Ingredients of super cedar The only disadvantage of super cedar is low sillage but that good scent covers the weakness.

I agree that this fragrance is excellent and is unisex. It's very woody, slightly spicy, sexy, direct, stunning, and dry. Its dry-down is also excellent. It does last a while, and its perfectly safe for office.

It would be perfect... if it didn’t only last half an hour. Please give us an Absolu version of it! (So that besides Bal d'Afrique, there’s at least one proper Absolu version)

I love the Rose and cedar in this fragrance. I think it’s perfect on a hot summer day. And it last very long. This is one of my all time favorite fragrances i have Tried.

A musk fragrance with a skin-like quality and a subtly sweet, woody scent—it’s the sort of fragrance you’ll want to wear every day. 10/10. I don’t mind the rose note.

Super Cedar is loaded with aromachemcicals. The most prominent note to my nose is that highly synthetic, ethereal rose, the same one that was so confusing for me in Le Labo's Rose 31. I couldn't understand Rose 31 for the longest time. Nothing about it smelled natural. Don't get me wrong, it smelled damn good, but I am still hard-pressed to believe there could be any real rose in it. Now Super Cedar seems to contain that same synthetic, sweet, magenta rose, and it is amped up by the cedar-like scent of Iso E Super plus ambroxan and a musk cocktail similar to that which is found in their own Mojave Ghost, so for me this perfume might be more aptly called Super Rose. I like it a lot! It smells sweet and clean, Super Simple and Super Modern (hahaa!). Compared with Rose 31 it doesn't have any spice, where I a get a tiny dose of some distinct chemical spices like cinnamon and pepper. But I like both perfumes very much. I think anybody walking into this with expectations that it should smell like real cedar on steroids is going to be sorely disappointed. But if you realize that Iso E Super smells like cedar to a lot of people, and maybe that is where the name is coming from, then the name makes a lot more sense and your expectations are more likely to be met.

This is such an interesting scent. On paper, I was really drawn to it - it was a strongly musky, almost buttery woody scent. Very interesting, comforting, and kind of delicious. Zero rose at all on paper, and was playing hide-and-seek with me on the paper. It alternately smelled like alcohol, then nothing at all, and then back to that musky-woody scent. On my skin, it turns into a sweet, tart, musky rose instead, and almost reminds me of Delina! From the notes I'd never have predicted this, but it's HEAVY sweet tart rose to me. About 1 hour or so into the scent, the vetiver comes through, and it comes through in a sweet, tart, almost juicy-citrus vetiver and reminded me strongly of Bal d'Afrique here. So - smells like a lot of things, morphs rapidly. All the different phases included, this had weak longevity (<2h?) and poor sillage. Not bad, but hard to convince myself to buy this.

A quiet, work environment-friendly scent for all seasons. I have a similar experience with the reviewer below me. The cedar is most prominent on my skin, but it's NOT smoky or dusty/metallic, but rather soft, fluffy. I can't really determine the other notes, but there are background players that keep this scent from being sharp and punchy. However the cedar is always the star. The projection is SO low, this is a skin scent through and through. This was most likely formulated for people who have sensitive work environments, it's the most inoffensive scent I've ever tried. I can easily see this being a daily fragrance for men/women where most perfumes are usually frowned-upon, like in professional healthcare, government or schools. It's comforting and doesn't lean too masculine or feminine.

If you don't consider the price, this is a great scent! It's light in nature, but provides a solid 7-8 hours of wear. The smell is simple, but very pleasant and balanced. It could be worn almost anywhere and all almost all year. I'm not a huge fan of cedar, but I think this one is great! However, I doubt I'll ever buy it. First of all I'm not a huge fan of cedar, so I wouldn't wear this all the time. Secondly, the price really merits better performance, I would expect designer EDPs to perform this well (and many of them do). Also, as pleasant as it smells, to me, it's only a "nice" scent, not something I really feel like I need to have. If it was priced like a designer scent I'd probably buy it and be happy, but it costs twice as much and is only slightly better.

One of my favorites in the YSBB category. Gentle rose, cedar (I suspect it’s a big molecule, but I can pick it out very easily), and earthy vetiver. I’d call it hidden nobility. Clean, lightly floral, and woody. A part of me thinks this could be polarizing, because I checked the comments and people’s perceptions vary a lot. Anyway, projection is very low and it sits close to the skin. It performs like the same brand’s GW in terms of sillage and longevity, basically the same situation. Sweetness is minimal here. Ideal if you want something light, not to bother anyone, to wear at the office, and to give a "clean and chic" impression in closer encounters. It fits the white-shirt vibe perfectly. I get a masculine rose from this more than anything. Honestly, the scent is pretty decent, i don’t get a whole lot of cedar considering the name. 90% of it is a clean rose, then a bit of woodsy cedar. Barely anything else. Performance is good, maybe a little worse than other Byredo scents I’ve tried but it may be that this scent is just a lighter tone and therefore isn’t quite as heavy and noticeable. I personally would not buy this one, though it’s definitely not awful. It’s definitely underwhelming considering the price tag, but not so much so that I would be completely shocked if someone told me they bought a bottle. Its just not interesting enough, missing something that gives it interesting qualities. It’s nice but it’s just kind of boring.

First blast of sharp resinous green leaves, fading pretty fast from my skin despite going heavy on the trigger. I get a mild and sweet pink pepper and rose that only deepens in sweetness over time. Roses and wood that truly is wood and not oud; the scent stays in the forest and isn't medicinal or animalic. It's sweet and feels like you're deep inside Sleeping Beauty's rose and briar hedges. After about a half hour though, it turns strongly ambroxan on my skin. I can get that with JHAG Not a Perfume for a tenth of the price of this one. Oh well. Feminine and best for cooler weather. 6+ hours later: The sweet ambroxan note stayed linear on my skin and is still faintly there.

I have been sampling this several times and might end up purchasing it. Yes, it is an ultra synthetic, minimalist scent, but very balanced and easy to use. When in doubt, just grab this and spritz it lightly. I love how the gentle notes of rose and acidity from the vetiver lace with the iso-E-Super and probably ambroxan. This lasts for ages, especially on textiles. I agree that this is the "expensive retail shop scent" – or the closest equivalent of the new MacBook smell – but targeted to hoomans fiddling with those shiny machines... And yep, I totally get the resemblance to DG Light Blue. This jus just drier and more minimal. Love LB, too, can I still justify this?

I'd say this is closer to molecule 01 than another 13. I like it more than molecule 01 but not as much as Le Labo Another 13. A13 has a chlorine/fresh water vibe and this is woody/musky. Wore it today in the heat and it did well and smelled good. The late drydown is musky cedar, almost like an antique cedar chest on my skin. Longevity is average and it projects around 2 feet so it's more of a reserved scent radius. Overall it's pretty good and I like the cedar, vetiver and musk combo. The rose dies off pretty quickly and it's not a strong rose. I'd pick this up for the right price as it's easy to wear and can be worn in any setting. 7/10 Performance 5/10

I agree with some of the comments here: this perfume does not last at all. My bottle is a 2022 batch, and I put 4 sprays around my neck, 3 sprays on each arm, and 2 sprays on my shirt 1 hour ago, and the smell is already gone. I absolutely love this perfume, very creamy, woody, slightly sweet, with a hint of cedar (even the name is Super Cedar, ironic). But the performance is extremely weak. I know this is supposed to be a skin scent, but even as a skin scent it fails, as I don’t smell anything anymore. For the price, honestly, it’s not worth it. I hope they either reformulate it to make it stronger or release an Absolu version.

a very nice, unisex fragrance. I wouldn't call it "super" cedar, but it is still very cedary and woody. I think this fragrance is perfect for an outdoorsy kind of person. This isn't your typical fragrance, it's not exactly a skin scent but I'm not sure how else to desribe it. If you like the PNW and that kind of vibe, (and you're a bit of a granola person) then this is the scent for you. Beware however, although I do enjoy this fragrance on paper, it turned a little pickly on my skin which kind of deterred me from it. Try this on your skin before you commit to a full bottle!

One of the few fragrances I discovered after asking a stranger on the train what he was wearing. It was a super hot summer day and he smelled just amazingly fresh and clean. Light and woody, a bit musky. Like a freshly sharpened pencil, combined with a balmy summer breeze. Didn't buy it then because byredo fragrances are kind of expensive for what they are, but was lucky that I got it as a gift a few months after.

Opens with fresh airy notes and rose in background. Then after a while you start to remember your pencil shavings from your school days. It gives you a beautiful vibe from your childhood however if you are only looking for pencil shavings there are better options out there. In dry down Cedar note is bolder than the rest. Its nice and gentle.however projection may disappoints you a little. 3.75/5 Age:+25

Not any rose in this fragrance. I really think it’s minimal and simple especially good for the lake woods trip. I mixed it with Diptyques Philosykos EDT and it really adds complexity to both of the fragrances. Don’t get crazy longevity on its own though, I think it’s because of the brands aesthetic and how molecular it is.

It may be good for a hot summer day if you are in the northern latitude of the globe, otherwise I would suggest super cedar for less hot weather such as cool summer nights or early fall 18-25 C degrees. Gives a little Light Blue by DG on cold skin, but again in a hot weather condition it makes you hard to breathe
