Vanille Antique 2025

I can’t honestly say that I don’t notice much of a difference between this and the past formulation. I bought the reformulation by accident, unaware that the website i’d ordered from no longer had the old version in stock like they had lead me to believe. I’ve tested the past version on a number of occasions and absolutely loved it every time, so naturally I was a bit frustrated when I received the new version and not the one I had already tested and thought I was buying. To my surprise though I noticed little to no differences between the two. Performance, projection and scent profile are nearly indistinguishable in my opinion. On top of that, the new bottle is larger, so you’re getting more bang for your bang buck. All that aside though, both are undeniably gorgeous fragrances, so either way you can’t really go wrong when picking between the two if you really feel the near nonexistent differences call for the need to put much thought into deciding between them. Either way 10/10 work, one of my favorite vanilla/ambers in my collection.

I've never imagined I'd fall in love with a vanilla fragrance in my 30s. It opens with juicy plum against a beautifully smoky backdrop, but unlike most smoky fragrances, this one feels surprisingly clean. It's somehow a clean yet dirty vanilla—a contrast that makes it incredibly addictive. To me, it smells like a high-quality vanilla bean, split lengthwise with the seeds scraped out, steeped in a bottle of premium plum vodka. It's rich, boozy, slightly smoky, and effortlessly elegant. The scent lasts much longer on fabrics than on my skin, where it really comes alive over time. This has become one of my personal favorites lately. Perfect for crisp fall days and cold winter nights.

Simply put....this is divine! I dont smell any oud or tuberose and in actual fact when compared to the original, I can find very little difference. Perhaps a little more woody on the dry drown?? But I am actively trying to find a difference. I am delighted with the "new" version and will enjoy spraying liberally when the colder months arrive.

Personally, I love the oud addition into this reformulation. Makes it that much more long lasting and impressive.

I can’t say for sure if I ever tried the OG VA, but as I’m on the hunt for the perfect vanilla perfume or two, I was happy to see this at my local Bloomingdales. It was one of the few I felt was worthy to spray on my wrist and my shoulder and neck, as I saved the other shoulder for vanilla sex, and another wrist/hand for the Gucci orchard vanilla. I did over spray them all, mainly because of the body parts, the long sleeve shirt and medium weight coat over, and half hour walk back and forth to my home plus additional outdoor time for getting lost. Reading reviews of the older version makes me wish they had it. They had the newer Casablanca Lily one too, as a Casablanca Lily lover in general, I had always thought that would be my favorite scent but still have an og sample of it laying around somewhere as it wasn’t the Lily I had hoped for, it’s nice but not Lilycentric, which is hard to find. I do think the newer bottle is pretty, I like the gold cap, but I only saw the larger size with it, the smaller ones had black caps like the OGs, with lighter juice. I put this on a like a lot maybe list, but feel there’s other vanillas I’m yet to try Ill prefer more, and have already sampled one from a recent order (vanilla powder) which doesn’t have that boozy vibe, but really fell in love with it, but didn’t order the newer extrait version so won’t buy until I can compare which one is a must, as well as sample a few others on my vanilla list. If going the boozy route, I think Id rather get a bottle of SV by GUERLAIN. I didn’t spray it on my skin today but sprayed in the air and card, remembering how much I fancied that before they turned the bottles in the unattractive boxy form. How I wish I had gotten one from the prettier older bottles, but was happy that the scent I still remembered hadn’t seemed reformulated (I have an OG vial of it I’m pretty sure i found while organizing months ago). I don’t think this smells like SV, but do think they are in the boozy category of vanillas. This isn’t as sweet and has more amber in it, giving it fall winter vibes. It’s cozy, seductive, and as I continue smelling it on my bony shoulder, the more I dig it. I think a decant might be the deciding factor, but I appreciate the staying power and how feminine it plays on to my skin. Its a sophisticated vanilla that would pair well with a LBD and little else. I know its not inexpensive, if it was offered in a travel size Id buy it, just not sure its FB worthy...yet. Side note, not sure why the heck so many perfumers are doing this, but wish it would stop; releasing a popular frag and only allowing it to exist for a short period of time before unveiling a “better, newer, enhanced version” which in most cases means cheaper ingredients, watered down, and not nearly as good as the original, but more expensive no doubt. It’s one thing if they want to release limited editions like Chanel and Dior etc do with makeup palettes and so on. It’s another if they entice you and before you get a chance to try it, it’s been reformulated, discontinued, or brought back 10+ years later smelling 85% close to the OG. This isn’t directed at Byredo, just the various perfume houses in general. Warning would be nice before it magically vanishes into something else you didn’t ask for, especially when prices are at an all time high in this economy. Rant over. Lovely vanilla, but will need to think about it...

I’ve really wanted to get my hands on this for a while, and now that I finally have I’m disappointed. My first thought was honestly that it smells wildly similar to side effects by Initio, but it lacks the distinct rum note. I really don’t get a lot of vanilla but there is warmth. I definitely get the plum and freesia, and the tuberose is there faintly as well. These three make it feel intentionally dated, like the inside of a cupboard where flowers died in some vases. It reverberated in my personal space for probably 5 or so hours and then became this jammy, floral skin scent. This isn’t for anybody who really wants a vanilla scent, because I found that it felt more like a warm mix than vanilla. I don’t dislike it, but it’s definitely not what I was expecting.

Vanille Antique is darker and moodier than I usually reach for - dark vanilla with resinous warmth and subtle smokiness - but something about it keeps pulling me back in. The plum and resinous warmth in the drydown opens into a creamy vanilla amber that's genuinely beautiful. It's brooding in the best possible way and absolutely worth another full wear before making a final decision.

Damn, i smell just amber and toned down oud. I don't dislike it but it's not my vibe. That said I don't think there is anything that stands out from this perfume

I was looking for a vanilla perfume and remember Byredo this dark deep cognac looking line has a vanilla perfume. Went to try it on my body, omg, they should change the name to "Rose Antique", the first 20 mins was fine, smelling a bit sweet and woody, then it turn into a straight up ROSE in all capital letters. And the rose smell so old and intense, not an elegant rose, no where to find vanille. And I saw Tuberose is only added to the 2025 version, what a shame! Least to say the price is ridiculous...

smells like olives. basically mod vanilla by ariana grande with a leathery oud note... hence the olives.

Smells like the air when you enter a zara store, not very nice.

Smelled it at a niche shop. One of the worst scents ive smelled. The Oud, vanilla, amber combo is just too much.Im surprised to see the reviews putting this more female leaning, as a guy if I smelled this on a girl is almost an instant turnoff.

Might be one of that nastiest perfumes i've smelled. Vomit inducing sweet, powdery vanilla with plenty of amber

I bought it and I'm sorry I did. I also just bought a $13 fragrance that smells just as good and outlasted this by several hours. This sucks. It's basically a watered down version of the OG, which smells somewhat like the OG, but so do a lot of other rando vanillas. I'm so mad Byredo did this. Who asked for this? I hope it macerates well, because I won't be reaching for this again for a long time. Grrrr. Why can't perfume companies leave a good thing alone?

This has definitely been reformulated, it's smells vaguely similar to the original but definitely not the same. The added oud and tuberose have definitely changed the fragrance and definitely not for the better. Also, how and why would any fragrance company add an extra 20ml to the bottle and sell it for roughly the same price if they weren't using cheaper and inferior ingredients??

First impression on paper. I never smelled the old version. This is extremely oud and amber forward, vanilla here is simple and seems to play a background role. Linear, potent, boring. Similar to all other oud-amber-vanilla scents that you come across smelling off people on the street during a day out shopping at the weekend.

Is this new bottle design a symptom of Loreal's acquisition of Byredo? Why, oh why would you change something so iconic as the original Byredo bottle and repackage the gorgeous OG Vanille Antique scent in a non-byredo dna bottle?? This new bottle design screams designer priced dupe. Mind boggling and heartbreaking💔

I know so many people love the original. I liked the original but it leaned slightly dirty or masculine for me. I am obsessed with the new formulation and cannot wait to add it to my collection. It's a little creamier and more feminine leaning. It is absolutely addictive to me.

This smells identical to Donna Karan Cashmere Palo Santo, which is a lighter version of the OG. Basically just buy that - it's half the price for 100mls and has the same performance. It's a real pity that they reformed, as the OG was the deepest, darkest, most divine vanilla.

Haven’t tried it yet. Hopefully they didn't change it too much!? but these new bottles are so ugly! Update, it’s really the same fragrance as the olde bottles, I’m sure they changed something but it smells the same to me, I paid a lot for the older smaller bottle 😅🤦🏻♂️

very little vanilla with a screechy amber dry down...emphasis on the antique, though! it's ancient in the sense that no person in the 21st century should go about smelling like this. the oud absolutely sullies this fragrance. regrettably, it's a scrubber.

Looks like it's been reformulated. The perfume pyramid is different compared to the pyramid for the original fragrance. The ingredients list on my 50ml bottle is also different from the ingredients list on the official Byredo website ☹️☹️☹️

Initially I thought this had been reformulated because of the notes on this page however if you look at the notes on Byredos site there is no tuberose listed and when I smelled the new version I don’t smell any tuberose

This is just awful. Nothing like it’s used to be. Drydown smells like some cheap Zara fragrances, and it makes me nauseous :/ I don’t know what made them reformulate amazing fragrance into this..

Really disappointed in the re-formulation. I loved the original and have repurchased several times. Now they’ve added tuberose, my arch nemesis. WHY?! So frustrating.

Who asked for this? Vanille Antique was already one of their longer lasting fragrances. No modifications needed. I will continue pray for a Gypsy Water Absolu.

Smells like every other cheap amber vanilla oud! Like shaghaf oud turned down a little. Hate it, which I guess is good for my wallet!

1st impression for 2025 reformulation: Grand Soir's sister. The amber here is similar to grand soir, but more subtle and fine.

THEY HAVE EXTRAIT LEVEL STUFF NOW? WHAT TIMELINE ARE WE IN AM I SEEING NOT ONE BUT 5 NEW BYREDOS???????

It is sadly watered down and somewhat chemical echo of an original VA. It is a shame.

why do they have to ruin everything with oud
