Black Dragon

#998 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant. This is a very fine note combination for men that leans tropical. Is it $233 for 75 ml nice? Not for me. But if I got it for Christmas I would damn sure wear it. I would pick this over the somewhat similar Dior Sauvage Elixir as the tobacco in this really adds something the Sauvage lacks. So there's that. And this is less per ml than Stephane Humbert Lucas 777 "God of Fire", the gold standard in mango scents, which is close to this. I have Lattafa "Asad" EDP ($24) which is in this ballpark. I also have Maison Alhambra "Salvo Elixir" at $19, which is a pretty damn good copy of Sauvage Elixir. So much so I won't be buying the Sauvage again. And I have Alhambra's "Sceptre Malachite" at $23 which is also kind of in this vein. So there are several low cost alternatives. This is certainly a great scent with great performance, and it's business and romance appropriate. Nothing here you won't love. But it's not a great price and there are very good less expensive alternatives. It's nice but not unique enough to get me to spend that much coin. So probably won't be an acquisition for me.

This one took me me a little while to understand. I think I was expecting something fruity-sweet and a lot of tobacco, spicy, with underlying sweetness and layer from the vanilla and musk. A spin off of Tobacco Vanille, Red Tobacco, Vanille Havane, Chimaera.... What I learned is Black Dragon was inspired by a cigar. I had to step away from this for a couple of weeks. When I revisited, wow. Black Dragon is actually quite sophisticated. It begins with a fruitiness balanced by Bourbon Vanilla (that gives a slight booziness). When the fruitiness dissipates, there is a beautiful powdery tobacco, vanilla, musk, and a slightly honeyed sweetness, just a touch- so you know it’s there. Dry down is gorgeous. Amber, vanillic, powderiness, with a lingering touch of tobacco like the caress of your lover that whispers across your skin and you will always remember. Don’t expect a dragon that burns your senses. Rather, experience the Dragon that will seduce you in an a breathy kiss.

Byron Perfumes are loud, in your face and unisex fragrances. But for this one I will say this barely scratches the unisex part, this leans mostly on the feminine side. That being said i love this scent, this smells like the fruit you find in a hotel buffet, but someone took the honey jar and drench the entire fruit with it. I also get this makeupy powdery sensation when wearing this fragrance. Projection and Performance are off the charts 8+ hours. Only drawback is that this is a cold weather fragrance, do not try it in the summer or it will smother you. If you are a man that can pull feminine scents this is a piece you must try.

This is a beautiful soft, tropical and somewhat powdery scent. I ordered the 15ml as a blind buy, and after one spray immediately put the full size in my cart. I was afraid this might lean masculine but it’s a feminine leaning unisex. This is so well blended I don’t detect patchouly at all. I was also a little afraid this would be a fruity punch in the face like an Escada fragrance. I like those, but this is completely different. It smells expensive. The mango in vanilla are the most prominent notes for me with the slightest touch of tobacco flower.

Absolutely LOVE this fragrance. So good! It's a sweet, fruity, (almost) effervescent syrup scent. It's so interesting and really really lasts awhile. I get about 5-8hrs out of it and the projection is fantastic for the first 2hrs or so. But after that, kind of hard to detect unless you are fairly close. But overall I'd say this scent profile is a solid 9/10. Super happy I was able to grab this for 1/2 the price also.
