Mula Mula

This works well on my skin. The strawberry hard candy scent in this is artificial, but not obnoxiously so. Caramelized and candied strawberry, not the buttery caramel kind. Like Buberry Her Elixir with caramel instead. Bright touches from the help of the raspberry and a nice fresh but also sweet kick from the ginger. I thankfully don’t get peach. The oud is present and smoky at times, adding depth and strength, but not offensive compared to the extreme’s opening. Mula Mula Rouge Extreme has the slightly harsh leather, incense vibe like La Capitale. It was really between The Chronic, Rouge Extreme, and Mula Mula (this), all pretty good strawberry fragrances. I chose this because it’s just less smoky, with a cleaner leather note, and lasts fairly long on me. The whole line does really, even if the projection isn’t loud anymore some 4-5 hours in for this. It’s a great night out, dressed up or hot girl in general type of scent. Heels on with a long sillage. Too much and it may be offensive. I also prefer this when it’s cooler. Please keep in mind most people have no issues with La Capitale, and I like it as well. It has more of an amber base and performs better. I just pick up a harsh leather, on my skin, with my nose. The Mula Mulas, Xerjoff La Capitale and SHL Venom Incarnate are similar and all upwards $200, so no choice is really a bad one. They’re all worth the price and it’s just rare to find a sweet caramel, strawberry fragrance that smells refined for adults. Anything else claimed to smell similar is a lie lol it disappoints me when I try a more affordable niche brand and it doesn’t smell anywhere close. Worse, when it’s just an animalic, sharp, amber musk with fruity undertones. So I’ve accepted I will have to pay more for the scent I want and I have no problem with that.

EDIT TO ADD (1/28/23): I did find a dupe that is surprisingly close from Andromeda's Moon. DUA's was not it for me. They did not get the addictive oudy-note right and made it too vinegary almost. But AM has a lovely dupe. Really impressed with their Tihota too (which is definitely better than Dapper's dupe btw). In case anyone is wondering... ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is phenomenal. I have fallen in love with Byron fragrances. Mula Mula is great. I need to get (blind buy) Mula Mula Extreme. And I just ordered Mula Mula Double Caramel after loving the sample I bought... also Black Dragon is really good too if you like tobacco/vanilla types... So, from what I can tell is the more fruity/sweet/gourmand Byrons are very fun and yea a little synthetic but they are done well. The added oud note makes them very addictive too. They are well-blended and not easily duped from what I have tried. That addictive quality is not easily duped... I have heard people say that these perfumes smell "cheap" and I kinda agree but then also disagree. Because I have tried a lot of good cheapies and dupe/indie houses that have similar sweet fruity vibe - but they are just not as well-done as these. That is why they're worth it. The packaging is pretty, but the blend doesn't smell cheap. It's kinda like they are a more expensive/quality niche house trying to smell (cheap) sweet & fun. But it still smells like quality lol... does that make any sense at all?? I dunno. I adore it! And Double Caramel is even better and stronger than this one. Full bottle worthy for sure. One of the best fragrances I've discovered this year.

I really love this. It's fruity but not exactly sweet and the patchouli gives it a certain richness. At first spray, I pick up on the strawberry and raspberry—juicy, fresh and a little tart. And, though it's part of the base notes, I also get a bit of the patchouli. It's not taking center stage away from the fruits but it's definitely present. Over the next hour, a slight sweetness comes out that I assume is the caramel, which bolsters the fruit without making it cloying. After about two hours, the fruits start to fade a bit but never completely disappear, and the patchouli starts to intensify. It remains like this for me for most of the remainder of the wear, with the vanilla and musk emerging about six hours in. This lasted over ten hours on me and the sillage is strong. Overall, this is a wonderful extrait. I love that the fruitiness never entirely vanishes and that the patchouli adds some body and herbaceousness to it. I don't think I picked up on the spices or oud much at all, but I very much enjoyed it nevertheless.

Caramel, berries, peaches and cream grounded by the oud which pulls off slightly leathery rather than oud-like so don’t be deterred if you don’t get on with oud, this is linear, crowd pleasing & not especially complex, harsh or polarising. I’ve been trying to find a fruity scent that smells unique, expensive and “grown up” and this has finally ticked that box. This is a sexy, grown woman on a summer night she’s got long wavy brown hair and wearing a satin red dress. I got samples of this and The Chronic and was so sure this was my favourite but I think I’ve switched to the Chronic. Liquidamn seemingly literally created a fragrantica account to tell everyone as many times as possible that Byron is a dupe house...weird flex but ok. I’ll politely disagree as I’ve found the scents I’ve tried to be pretty unique and have great performance.

I know Mula Mula isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It does lean a bit feminine and can obliterate your senses if you spray too much. My best friend told me it smells like stripper paint! Jokes aside, I’ve received the most visceral reactions from women when wearing this. If you want a woman’s attention, this will definitely do it! I get burnt caramel, strawberry, and a hint of oud. It’s 100% linear and am glad it doesn’t morph into anything else. Easily 10+ hours on my skin and just about an entire day on my clothes. Every summer I bust this out for a date night with my wife. 2 sprays is enough. Fall and winter is more appropriate but can be pulled off all year long in the right situations. Cheers!!!

This is really great! To me, this is suuuper similar to La Capitale, but in a more linear, simplistic way. I agree with another review below that Mula Mula is the more youthful, daytime version of the deeper, richer La Capitale. This doesn’t evolve much throughout wearing, but stays consistent and wears for a long time. Sweet strawberry, juicy peach, rich caramel and patchouli for me, with something that smells a little salty also (maybe the ginger?). I really like this, but already own LC so I’m not sure that I’ll invest in a bottle as I’m not sure a good collection would require both.

Beautiful scent. Especially after that first initial blast. Might purchase a full bottle, but I have to test the performance a bit more. I sprayed it on my hand right after I received my sample and it became a skin scent after about 4 hours, which is decent. So far so good. Update: loved it so much that I bought a full bottle. Only problem is that I seem to experience strong olfactory fatigue with this one. My nose tunes it out within minutes, which sucks big time :(

I've now owned this baby for over two years now and it's gotten even better and more well-rounded with time. It's less sharp and "messy" in the opening. I even detect a warmer note, smells like coffee. I still love it. Still performs well, I get about 4 hours of decent projection, but then it becomes a skin sent. It easily lasts 8+ hours for me. It clings much longer to clothes obviously. I'm not sure how recent batches perform mine is from 2018.

I bought some niche parfum and I get a sample Mula Mula becouse I asked something peachy. I never heard about it before. I sprayed to my wrist and gone to do my job. After ten minutes I started sniffing some ethereal indian insence smell- what the hell could it be??? I figured out this is my Mula Mula sample on my wrist- it's an adorable and unique scent for me, I think I will buy a FB! One spray is enough- it is strong and long lasting.

A fruity gourmand, caramelized peach. Reading the review i thought that this was gonna be a saccharine sweet perfume, but I don't think it's overly sweet. The opening however is a bit challenging for me, it smells nice, but i detect a dusty smell, like when we just return from a long trip, and the dusty aspect makes me close to sneeze... When it's over the smell becomes happier. Solid performance and longevity.

Fair warning to those who are sensitive to the musk used in Erba Pura, Tiziana Terenzi perfumes, Jasmine Wisp, Jardin Exclusif, and so on: this perfume contains some of that same sharp musk component. With that said, I'm surprisingly enjoying this perfume, despite it containing the sharp musk. The longevity on this perfume is insane, I can even smell the fruity peach top note hours after having sprayed.

Very fruity, and very sweet. I hesitated on this one because I assumed it would be too flat and boring. It is linear, but the sharper notes in here are doing a good job at giving the fragrance some zest. It helps it stand out a bit from the fruity perfumes you may have smelled at a Macy's. Very feminine to me in the opening, dry down is unisex.

I second Katheryn's post. I've owned this for a few years now and although I love the scent, I've always found it too feminine to wear. However, recently I've went back to it and it's become noticably more masculine, especially as it dries down. It's gotten spicier and I can even detect a bit of coffee in there.

I love this so much! Gourmand lovers dream! Super sweet caramel goodness and very strong too! It leaves an oily sheen on your body where you’ve sprayed so you know it’s full of perfume oil! Definitely feminine, I couldn’t see a man wearing this tbh! Scent 9/10 Longevity 9/10

Stop calling it a "brand of dupes," Byron is as much of dupe house as Xerjoff, Creed, Chanel, Dior, Armani. Everyone takes from eachother Byron has multiple UNIQUE creations. And guy, you don't smell no scratchy oud in this, you don't smell ANY oud in this.

Very sexy fruity addictive scent! Pretty good projection and lasting power. Definitely can see this as a spring summer scent for gourmand lovers. Fruity but has some nice oud. I think it can be loved by all ages ! Well blended

Hold on to your seat boys and gals. Definitely not for the faint hearted. When whoever gets a whiff of this it's over. I love the vanilla mixed with the fruity notes. This is amazing 10 out of 10. Get your nose on this one.

This really does smell like if you had lots of mula. Love at first sniff! That peach pops! And the oud adds REAL depth. Since it has oud, I would say get a decant or sample but it was blind buy worthy for me!!

Caramel, peach, vanilla, oud blended beautifully! This one is unisex all the way. Leaves such an invigorating and sexy scent trail. Sweet but not too sweet where it gets annoying. 9/10

If you can do your best to get ahold of an older non reformulated clear bottle. Beautiful fruits blended with caramel on a bed of oud. Smells fantastic with great performance!

Swear I got a note of gramcracker in this potion. Wish it was stronger perhaps only thnk this cause I love this fragrance sooo much. Rated it year around appropriate.

Mula Mula was launched in 2018 and is classified, by the manufacturer, as an oriental-spicy. Its name sounds strange in Portuguese (Mula means Mule, in English), but it means a North American slang that characterizes cash money. The official composition lists head notes of peach, red fruits, caramel, saffron and leather, paving the way for a warm body with notes of labdanum, cypriol, pink berries and ginger, which evolves to a base composed of benzoin, musk, oud, Peruvian balm, patchouli and vanilla. Mula Mula is one of those fragrances capable of conquering immediately and this explains the immense hype created by international influencers. I do not remember feeling a perfume with a similar output smell to it, in which the peach is caramelized and smoky, as if there was a note of incense at the top of the olfactory pyramid. Unlike my experience with the fragrance of 0.9, in which the saffron note does not seem to exist, in here it is present and well balanced along with the leather, which has soft and elegant aspect. As it evolves, Mula Mula develops resinous and balsamic nuances, sometimes bringing a fruity-gourmand scent, thanks to the presence of the benzoin and the balm of Peru, sometimes with a woody-smoky smell, because of the notes of labdanum, oud, patchouli and, above all, cypriol (also known as Nagarmotha). But do not expect that the note of oud to be very obvious, because it is not. Besides being enjoyable, Mula Mula is a mutant perfume. Sometimes it enhances the gourmand aspect and gives prominence to the caramel and the vanilla, meeting the feminine taste; other times it behaves drier and with almost alcoholic nuances (reminiscent of a cherry liqueur), drawing the attention of the male audience. Comparing with Pirates and 0.9, Mula Mula is the fragrance that I like the most. However, I do not think it is possible to wear it in those Brazilian summer days when the heat is at its peak and the temperatures arrive in the house of 40oC without effort. If you've ever had (or has) a flirt with those sweetest fragrances on the market, which always generate countless variations (flankers) and do not disappoint in regards to projection or longevity, then Mula Mula is another scent to your wish list.

The amount of hype for this fragrance was nuts! Glad to see it's hardly got any reviews from the more discerning crowd here on Fragrantica and the like. Instagram 'Influencers' (pffft!) have been going mental, likely because the brand has been handing out bottles like there's no tomorrow. They became SO ubiquitous last year but I guess it's worked because despite not wanting to conform, inevitably my curiosity gets the better of me and to be fair to Byron they sent me samples of Pirates and 0.9 too. Mula Mula was the big one though and I wanted to hate it pretty badly because it was getting disingenuous, well at best hyperbolas reviews almost universally so from every bedroom reviewer out there. Hats off to Byron because it's likely worked and made them money but I suspect long term there will be a backlash against the support from Youtube and IG sef proclaimed 'influencers'. So what's it smell like? A big dense, boarderline sickly gourmand but it does have some interesting elements and despite a slightly muddled composition, I have to reluctantly say...I quite liked it. Syrupy , liqueur booze and caramel, with a definite berry and peach notes. The base is heavy woody and long lasting and although not clearly defined I wouldn't doubt there's oud as listed, there's definitely vanilla anyway. It's long lasting but as I said a bit cloying and cumbersome to wear for me. I like a gourmand like Frapin 1270, which style wise isn't a million miles away but in terms of pure finesse it makes Mula Mula look crude in comparison. Not bad then and if you love it, fine.

Mula Mula is my first try from Byron Parfums and it coincides with the release having seemingly been well-received by the online community, celebrated as one of the better sweet releases of 2018 to date. Upon first spray, its heady sweetness is palpable, a mix of caramel, fruits, and a vague booziness, with something distinctly sharper (perhaps the cypriol) fading into creamy resins of benzoin and peru balsam, toward a base of oud and patchouli. Even after some hours, the patchouli and oud do not emerge strong, so the early experience of this fragrance is mainly the sharp, sweet experience that it's generally been billed to be. Its performance is nice but for how overtly sharp it is for its opening/heart phase, its pricing of $140 for 100ml is a tough sell. It feels less niche than I'd like it to be. Consider, by comparison, that Kerosene and Hilde Soliani bottles are comparably priced. Still, it's a nice entry, and certainly won't be a letdown for fans of sweets like myself. I'm glad to have tried and would recommend others give it a shot, as many do seem to love it. 7 out of 10

Whoa mama. I'm having a love-hate relationship with this one. I absolutely LOVE the immense sweetness and fruitiness of this. It got a bit cloying as the day went on but that could possibly be because it's still really hot where I live. I'll save the rest of my sample for December/January when it's truly cold. I have a LOT of sugary sweet frags - but this is the first one that ever nauseated me and gave me a headache. Still...I love it so much. So I'm hoping to have better luck in cold weather. I will mention that there's a sharpness to it - perhaps from the oud or maybe the cypriol oil - that reminds me of Erba Pura - but not nearly as pronounced. I'm not able to tolerate Erba Pura for that reason. (I don't think the smell alike in general - just that sharp note reminds me a bit of EP.) It lightens up after a while but never really goes away. Again, perhaps I'll prefer it in colder weather. That said, if you want a syrupy, sticky-sweet, fruity fragrance with a little punch of sharpness, this is your go-to. Definitely worth a sample.

Good...but not great. Opens fruity candy sweet. Certainly pleasant to those around you. Some guys might find the opening leans feminine. As it dries down, and the vanilla comes to the forefront...it certainly becomes more unisex. Smooth vanilla with a candied tinge is what I get for most of this DNAs longevity. Projection and longevity are certainly above average. Three seasons excluding Summer. For more fun casual events or possibly date night. I would love to have gotten more of the oud from this...it certainly would have been more to my liking to dirty this up a bit. This should be mass appealing...certainly for women of any age and men confidant enough to pull this off. For me, not bottle worthy...I believe you can find many other fragrances that do this for ALOT less.

At first I got a cherry bubble gum accord and I imagined an original vintage comic book picture of Veronica Lodge with blue black hair; her vain sleepy eyes over her shoulder. It warmed up to a light cherry almíbar syrup on freshly scrubbed skin. Although the first two nuances remained, they melanged into an eccentric visual of red Twizzlers that were left on the dash board of a 1985 380SL on a hot July afternoon. Gummy yet sophisticated and wonderful. I applied it before bed and it lingered all night; never turned cheap or synthetic. I'd say it's my most favorite cherry, stepping over TF Lost Cherry, even though cherry is not a listed note here. I do wish it had a different name.

I disagree with @Marm101 in that this smells cheap and that there is no caramel. Though I agree it is lacking depth. Smells like Polo Red Extreme though I can’t find my bottle to confirm lol... better in silage... and a distant Guerlain Homme Ideal L’Intense (because the caramel is there but it is soft enough to pass for almond). There are some distant reasonable comparisons to Erba Pura but this one is linear and lacks for the price the same morphing and performance. I also have a sample of extreme red which is cooler and fresher.

I’ve started wearing my perfume samples without letting myself look at the notes on fragrantica first. Smelling Mula Mula on my arm, I thought it smelled like dark sweet caramel with a hint of either spices or pine. (Now that I see the notes, I guess that was ginger and pepper leaving me confused). The fragrance definitely gets a ‘like’ from me. I probably won’t wear it again though, just because dark caramel scents don’t grab my attention the way other scents do.

I actually remember liking this perfume quite a lot! However, I am trying it again and I find it more masculine than I remember it, and spicier (not too spicy though). This is still a very beautiful perfume but I think I will prefer it on a man. Bear in mind that I don't like most of the perfumes that have some masculine notes in it. I am sure many women will like this perfume, but this is not for me.

I do like this. It’s not special enough (IMO) to justify the price tag. It’s sweet and I wish I got more of the woods and patchouli to give it some depth. I didn’t do a side by side comparison but I feel like if you like MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold or Juicy Couture you’d like this. It’s an easy like. Compliment getting but a tad immature for me.

Has a very deep fruity note, and it's very sweet. I could see this becoming overwhelming if over sprayed. It also lasts quite a bit on skin. Usually the fruity fragrances I own are "bright" and citrussy. This is deep, dark, and boozy. I enjoy it. When I finish off some of my bottles, I'll be adding this to my collection or the Rouge Extreme.

Smells similar to La capitale, minus the sophistication, minus leather (suede) note and also sweeter with more pronounced caramel. It smells like a mixture of caramel, butterscotch and toffee coating on a strawberry+peach hard candy. I wouldn't wear it often, but would wear it to somewhere fun!

Reminds me of Oud Bouquet and BDK Tabac Rouge but with prominent peach. I can definitely smell something bitter and smoky that contrasts with the sweet fruitiness. It almost smells like burnt peach caramel, it’s a very fun scent but I’m not a peach lover so it’s not for me.

My favorite from Byron Parfums line. Incredible creation and huge performance, honestly loud and beastly. Burnt caramel with fruity nuances and gingery top, leans more towards feminine side, but still very unisex.

Sweet and fruity accords are maximised in this fragrance. Very potent and polarising, 2 sprays and you’re good to go. Personally I would wear this for a date night.

This is very thick. Super sweet. Strawberry/peach dipped in caramel mixed with vanilla. This could definitely choke someone out lol.

I couldn’t put my finger on where I’ve smelled this for the longest time! This smells like a refined version of Pink Sugar Sensual.

The opening smells extremely delicious with the caramel note. This is absolutely irresistible. This is a beautiful composition of multiple difficult notes and that is something I appreciate. Sadly the beautiful opening disappears and I cannot detect the sweet fruity notes, it's just a vanillin musky oud on the dry-down. This is still worth the price, I just might buy this some day. Now I am not looking for a gourmand oud perfume so I will not purchase, but when autumn begins, I just might order this. EDIT 6.7.2024 Today I decided to wear my sample because I wanted to inspect if I need to buy this. I decided no, not even the 15ml bottle that costs 59€. This is just slightly messy, it just doesn't feel like something that I could wear easily. It's an extremely strong like, but not love.

So I got a sample from Lucky Scent...unless I was given the wrong sample this leans more masculine to me. I am not experiencing the sweet olfactory journey that others are musing over. The ginger, pepper and oud really come through, and the final dry down is pretty much just oud. There is a sweetness about it, but this def (to me) leans more masculine than feminine. It smells good...but for a guy. I 100% agree with the review from @Dumbplings below who also is not smelling what everyone else is smelling as far as the sweet and fruity notes. It's sort of giving me Satin Oud vibes from MFK but with a spicy kick.

The hype that this sent has garnered almost had me buying a full bottle but wiser heads prevailed and I bought a sample thank God. Although this scent is nice ,its just nice, nothing mind-blowing or massively unique . It opens up with a powerful blast, slightly burnt caramel however to me it lacks depth . It reminds me of several scents that I have smelled over the last few years, however this really reminds me of lancome s " Oud bouquet" with the latter there is much more of a deep rich depth that imo is far more satisfying. Sadly underwhelmed 6.5 - 10

It's the peach, the peach in this sticks in my craw. I don't like it with the caramel, it kinda 'curdles in the back of my throat; but when that goes away I do like this scent but its a very sweet scent, a sweet smoky scent that if I could manage the level of saccharine sweetness I would definitely wear this. The issue is It was cloying a smoky sweet fug that resided around my neck and it just was everywhere around me. This is something others would enjoy on me rather than I would enjoy it on me. 7/10

very sweet on my skin. The sweetness in this fragrance reminds me alot of the sweetness within London by Widian but without the suede leather note. With that being said, this one is definitely the sweeter out of the two. Caramel and and fruits are mostly what I get out of this. Personally not for me, as there was no backbone to the fragrance. If you like really sweet scents, you may enjoy this.

I received sample of this perfume; on me, it has similar vibe as La Capitale from Xerjoff. I can detect synthetic strawberry scent supported by something, perhaps oud? I believe the synthetic sweet note is caramel. I do not find it gourmand, its more of niche perfume. You will not smell like caramel strawberry dessert. Its nice but I am more into gourmand scents.

Mula Mula is nice, but to me, it smells like any other typical fruit-tchouli out there. There's nothing super interesting or unique about it. It's very "perfumey" and could easily choke out a room if you spray too much of it. When it dries, it becomes a little more woody than fruity which I enjoy. Overall, not very interested in this one. 6.5/10
