Pirates

Pirates was launched in 2018 and is classified by the manufacturer as an oriental-floral-musky perfume. It was created to convey the radiant glow of a bouquet of white flowers, which is illuminated by the touch of bergamot and tempered by the sensual vibration of the amber. The official composition lists head notes of pear and bergamot, paving the way for a floral body of jasmine, ylang-ylang, and tuberose, which evolves to a background of patchouli, white musks, and amber. On the skin, Pirates is much more complex than it may seem until now. This is because there is a very strong fruity and semi-gourmand nuance, which explodes as soon as the fragrance is sprayed. The pear is juicy and sweet, remembering the output of the fragrances from the YSL's Black Opium line. And this pear also has a much more feminine appeal, which may displease the most sensitive men with regard to sweet smells. But as I said before, Pirates is complex and evolves slowly and surprisingly. As if it wasn’t enough the fruity and pungent beginning, the body reveals what I usually call the royal triad of the florals: jasmine, ylang-ylang, and tuberose. It is impossible to be indifferent to a fragrance that carries this combo. Here, the tuberose is very evident, bringing its creamier and more mature nuances that merge with the indolic and sweetened smell of ylang-ylang and confer those glimpses that remind us of the smell of peaches and bananas. At this stage, the fragrance is silky, with an aspect of a milky body lotion. After a long time, the base appears, more virile and balanced, bringing amber woods, an earthy patchouli and the oriental touch that I was waiting for. And all this occurs in an exuberant manner, because Pirates is a perfume for those who like to attract attention, for those who miss the fragrances of yesteryear, away from this current moment defended by Millennials, who only seem to like perfumes that remain close to the skin, without color, without offense...and without fun. Pirates is a fearless, invasive and enduring perfume, in which few sprays are enough. It is not unique in its style or innovative to the extreme, but it is well built and shows that it is still possible to find quality in the hands of professionals with a more artistic, liberating and passionate look. That’s the perfumery that pleases me!

As the name suggests it is quite tropical scent, white floral with heavy dose of tuberose, fruity nuances and coconut vibe. It is sweet and warm, with lots of musk, amber and woodsy patchouli. Strong florals of jasmine and tuberose stays throughout and makes it fitting for the warm weather, but not for heat as it is sweet and quite potent. The dry-down can get a little harsh and dry when smelled up close, but in the air it is very creamy, smooth and pleasant with slight bitter edge. I get a lot of this tropical vacation floral, coconut vibe which I guess comes from tuberose, pear and amber mixed together and for that reason it leans more towards feminine side, but undoubtedly unisex if a man wears it casually, like vacation or just relaxing and enjoying, for women I feel it is more versatile. Pirates really reminds me of other different scents that I smelled before which would be J'adore L'or by Dior, but mostly Cocaine by Franck Boclet. The performance is superb, a few sprays on clothes lasts a whole day with a strong projection. I can easily say that it lasts 24h and projects heavily for about 4-6h and still continue to project until it lasts. As an example, after a day I still got the whiffs of my jacket from the distance. Pirates is really strong, rich and high quality perfume, but it is not my favorite from the whole Byron's collection, because of those feminine qualities, Mula Mula is also quite feminine, but it is no doubt my absolute favorite from the line, still I really enjoy Pirates and it just keeps growing on me. If someone bought it because it was said to be exotic, I would hardly recommend it. No coconuts, no vanilla, no Caribbean feeling at all. If you can put away your expectations towards these features, you'll get a nice perfume though. Beginning is freshly sweet, not gourmand, no overwhelming stuff. Middle part is almost boring, regular white flowerish, something you can get in many mainstream desingner fragrances. BUT! The drydown is extremely good! It gets sweeter than the middle, but not in that fruity way, more like an animalic-amberic way, blended greatly with tuberose. Innocently erotic, what makes this perfume very exciting. From the beginning, you won't expect an ending like this ;) According to the name, this creation is like a pirate ship. You have no idea who got near to you, until she gets close, and pulls up the pirate flag, you're done for. ;) UPDATE: Best drydown ever! Still on my wrist (+8 hours) and it's pure rich ambery-woody sweetness. (In my opinion much refined and more interesting than Mula Mula..) Beautiful!

Nuclear pear bomb with tuberose and ylang ylang gang fallout. Base I get patchouli, amber, tuberose but pear is still present into the mid drydown. Strong and long lasting. Great reference scent for the pear note. Leans really fem on my skin but would be nice on a woman. Unfortunately discontinued.

Not my cup of tea. It is not a bad fragrance, it's just not really my style at all. I don't mind florals usually, but there is an animalic, musky scent which I find to be quite harsh and off-putting - especially if you sniff it up close. Some people really seem to enjoy this one, I am just not one of those ppl. It lasts for ages on my skin. It remained on my arm even after several washes, including with soap. 12+ hours easily, so there is no performance issue at all. Mula Mula is still my absolute favorite out of the three offerings from this indy house.
