The Chronic

Probably one of the sexiest fragrances I’ve ever smelled. And I have Love Don’t Be Shy (both pre and post reformulations) and the notes are completely different, it smells nothing like it. However, what I DO get in the dry down is very similar to Alien Essence Absolu. It must be the Amber note, which is rich, creamy, and like thick caramel. The bottle is beautiful. I’m totally in love. EDIT: Okay, I understand now why people make comparisons with Love Don't Be Shy, (and that I personally get Alien Essence Absolu). There is something cola-like about all of these scents, almost root beer-type cola, although their individual notes are all different. If you don't like that facet, you aren't going to like any of these scents, but if you DO...wow. Also, and this might sound weird, but I get a kind of hickory bacon smell from The Chronic. Now, before you turn your nose up and decide this is gross, take note of the fact that the (supposed) number one smell that supposedly attracts men is the smell of bacon. Delicious Delights did a video on this recently. Now, in The Chronic, I am guessing that it's the combination of leather (which, hello, is basically skin...cooked skin), caramel and black pepper, which is sweet and savory at the same time...then combined with sandalwood and cinnamon, which is woody and sweet spicy and HELLO! = hickory bacon. It is divine.

The Chronic is absolutely addicting for me. Opens up very very sweet with almost a tuberose feel (which I love). Then it moves into a gorgeous golden Amber that shines and mixes very well with a creamy sandalwood. Some say it’s feminine but I think this is perfectly unisex along the lines of something like Ultra Male by JPG or a less warm Tonka Imperial by Guerlain. This fragrance also evokes great memories for me. For reference, I’m a college student in the Longhorn Marching Band at The University of Texas. I tested this out at a rehearsal in the fall of 2022 and it was so amazing off my skin. I will never be without this one in my collection. I think this is the closest a fragrance can come to gourmand without being gourmand. It makes me think of Ultra Male by JPG in that way. (It does not smell like Ultra Male but gives off a similar feel; sweet but not edible). The Chronic is a 10/10 in my book and I’m happy to have it in my collection!

The Chronic instantly reminded me of Diesel's Fuel For Life Spirit and to a much lesser degree, YSL L'Homme Parfum Intense. It's perhaps not too surprising that it smells a lot like Fuel For Life Spirit given that they're both amber and cinnamon-heavy sugar bombs. Both fragrances have that bubblegum sweetness, though The Chronic is definitely smoother and not quite as piercing as the Diesel. Really and truly though, The Chronic is a higher quality take on a designer fragrance. It's certainly not challenging, it's not complex, it stays pretty linear throughout. Personally, I don't feel this is worth the retail price. This apparently used to be available for around £90 for 50ml in the UK, but it's currently retailing for £165 (albeit for 75ml) which I find to be way too steep for what it is.

The Chronic is unique to me, there’s no distinguishable notes to my nose, this makes it difficult to describe. In the opening I get something like a slightly menthol, Juicy Fruit gum with suede. Then develops into a root beer vibe with a slight smokiness. This scent is a perfect example of why you shouldn’t pick scents based on notes It’s very sweet, genderless & comforting. An all year round fragrance but I’d want to wear it on summer nights. If it was a sweet it would be blue raspberry colour so the bottle matches for sure, even if I prefer the old packaging. I bought samples of this & Mula Mula which I’ve used up & am just revisiting to write my reviews, I was sure MM was my favourite but now I’m not so sure!

Youthfully sweet, warm spicy creation. The composition is very gourmand'ish, sweet caramelish like amber with kind of minty, zesty vibe on top, beautiful cinnamon and bubblegum nuance. Also it is a lot like brother to a Mula Mula sharing a quite a lot of similarities, specially in this sweet gourmand aspect, but I find it a bit more masculine. As with all Byron Parfums it is more on a linear side. The fragrance packs some performance, it is quite loud and projects a lot. I think The Chronic could become my favorite from the house, truly sublime.

This fragrance... I mean. WOW! Soft, warm, sensual and yet refreshing as someone has mentioned in the comments below. Sweet but not to sweet, powdery without being to cloying. Its complex as its for sure niche but mass appealing at the same time, very pleasent everyday wear. To break it down. If the most beautiful fairy in the world had a scent, THIS IS IT!

Uh uh somebody is lying about these notes lol the only thing I even THINK I smell is cinnamon.. everything else no. But this has easily become one of my fav’s out of my entire collection. I wasn’t wowed by it at first but I let it sit for two weeks and now I’m just mesmerized every time I get a whiff. Seriously if you haven’t, get your nose on this!!

This is a vanilla bomb ! Ive tried this perfume to so many different people, none of them dislike it, even those who are anti-gourmand can still find this perfume pleasing Spraying it on test strip and fully wearing it, is 2 different stories. I am loving The Chronic and been a fan of the house for quite sometime

I was surprised how sweet it was in the opening. Also, I swear I’m getting tuberose like in Rouge Malachite... as it settles it becomes a little smoky and root beerish. I do like this. A lot I think. Not at all what I expected but it’s a like for me.

Amazing perfume. Warm, cozy, creamy. Does have a tuberose vibe, which I love. Not too sweet and completely unisex. This has quickly become one of my favorite perfumes!

Waaay too much ethyl maltol for me. The smells like cotton candy with a bit of sandalwood and musk. I expected a deeper, spicier fragrance.

I love this fragrance! It has a beautiful smell I just can describe it! Someone said it smells like hookah and I totally agree 💕💕💕💕

Byron Parfums The Chronic is one of the more discussed fragrances from this house, and while it does not smell like its inspiration, it’s nonetheless a pleasant sweet/spicy/resinous blend. There’s a slight spicy side to it, with the pepper and cinnamon, but it’s primarily that heart of amber and patchouli that stands out, in concert with an almost vanilla-like sweetness (it’s prominent, perhaps due to a healthy dose of amber) and the smooth landing bad of sandalwood and white musk in the base. It’s easily likable but not exceptionally remarkable beyond that, as the sweet resinous quality does seem very familiar, an effect I’ve smelled in other fragrances that is sharp and interesting and candy-like at times but not all that distinct from a lot of other fragrances. Krystal Fragrance seems to be the only boutique in the US that sells Byron Parfums, and it’s from her that I obtained a sample with another bottle purchase. The Chronic is an extrait concentration and is for $140 for a 50ml bottle size. This had a lot of hype some months ago, some of which is warranted as it’s a very nice fragrance that could work for a lot of different people in a lot of different situations, but it’s not exceptional in any specific way. It’s a good performer, though, for the price. A “like” not a “love” for me, personally. 7 out of 10

This one is weird & interesting I had to get it.I do agree it has an effervescent soda like quality to it reminiscent of a Coca Cola or Dr. Pepper. Cold and fizzing over... I first obtained a vial then decided I needed a bottle. I don’t get the cinnamon note at all. This is a fresh soda fountain concoction and it’s ice cold & refreshing . An all seasons frag in my opinion. Two sprays is more than enough in the hot summer... Sadly this company has new bottles and a *significant* price hike. The old bottles are just fine and spray perfectly like a huge fine mist I love these bottles! While the new bottles are beautiful I find them unnecessary. I’m buying for the juice not the bottles. Also this company is extremely difficult to contact and the one response from them wasn’t very helpful or friendly. They have a new Chronic Rouge Extreme I am dying to try but the cost is way overboard so any further purchases are going to be unfortunately skipped. It’s a bummer as I think this brand has major potential for even more growth and they just cut out a huge buyer segment by these unnecessary changes.

This scent smells like what I imagine coca cola smelled like in it's early days. Back when you had to go to the Soda Fountain to get it served. I really enjoy this scent as it just beams off of my skin and bubbles right up to my awaiting nose. I like compliments but wear fragrance for my own personal enjoyment. I have to say this does remind me a lot of Alien Essence Absolue by Mugler ( Discontinued.) It's not a fizzy as Alien Essence Absolue but smells very reminiscent of it. I know vanilla is not listed as one of the notes but I smell vanilla strongly but that could be coming from Amber note mixed with the musk.

Definitely NOT high heat scent IMO. But I can see someone during the winter or fall rocking a cozy textured sweater getting all the cuddly hugs and feels. Its home for the holidays, a cool day out, just cozy. There are gourmand aspects to this scent that do capture somehow dually the Irish coffee and root beer essence of each drink. And conceptionally, that should work. Smelled a few fizzy cola drink type frags and I've never been a fan. This is much better and quite addictive thus the name IMO Overall:4.0 Because of limited seasonal were and occasions in which you want to smell drinkable in cool weather.

So I had ordered a sample of chronic rouge extreme but received this instead. I loved it so much I ordered a fb and it was the wrong scent (that one is more popular but not nearly as good imo). long story short I sold my bottle of the rogue and bought this one instead so it was sorted out and I'm happy now. This fragrance is so underrated! I always tell people looking for a good soda scent to try this one; It seriously smells like fizzy sweet root beer/cream soda. I guess I'm glad that mistake happened otherwise I never would have tried this one.

Sweet fizzy soda. Something vaguely fruity. Almost strawberry cake-like on drydown. I’m getting Xerjoff K’Bridge vibes, but less sweet, and less vanillic. It’s missing depth, smells flat. Pleasant but unremarkable. 6.5/10 Edit: I’m also getting a vague resemblance to Initio Addictive Vibration, and BDK Rouge Smoking. They’re sort of in the same realm.

I've seen others describe this as root beer, and I get that kind of. My mind imagines the spices blending with the amber and sandalwood notes smoothly, as they aren't bold or harsh. This is the equivalent to a root beer float, with emphasis on the vanilla ice cream.

Lovely! To me it smells very similar to Aerin's Hibiscus Palm, especially in the drydown...

I feel like this is close to mixing olympea (intense) + olympea legend + olympea solar.

An aggressively flat, though admittedly well-blended combo of overbearing aromachemicals. Like a broken pop machine in the heat of summer, this blasts out a very sweet, sticky smell of dried-on cola and root beer syrups ... and it lasts forever. This plays in the same sandbox as Mancera and many designers, which leaves the pricing here rather offside. This will however please the ‘longevity bros’. If the results of your stopwatch / compliment counter matter more than actually enjoying your own fragrance blasting in your face all day long ... check it out.

It's not in the official note breakdown, and I didn't pick it up first on the testing strip but this is a tuberose bomb - a no for me. Which is surprising because I fell in love with it at the store. Good quality and presentation is as always with Byron, stellar.

MEH No cinnamon, no black pepper, no leather, no patchouli No good.

Damn this is average (and overhyped). Sometimes it's really not worth getting into the pretentiousness of disassembling a fragrance. If you like sweet scents you might like it by default but there's simply nothing great here. One of those scents that some people rave about but is ultimately disappointing. You can read the notes above, but skip any romanticising marketing tripe you read. There are no hidden depths, no re-sniffability. It's redeeming quality is, well, the quality. It is definitely well crafted. But if likened to an artwork imagine a framed picture of a plain orange coloured circle on a white background and thinking "is that it?", but the picture if you ate it would be sweet enough to instantly rot your teeth. That, is The Chronic by Byron Parfums.

This has a Parfums de marly Pegasus vibe which I don’t like at all. Definitely not for me!

This scent is so intresting to me...Definitely not amongst my all time favs, but somehow there are days, when i’m dying to wear this scents. I have trouble explaining this fragrance, for me it’s definitely sweet, sweet like cotton candy but it’s not warm sweet and that’s the most intresting about this fragfance for me, that it’s cool/chilly sweet. It’s like a cinnamon chewing gum for me. Just like Big red, but less spicy and strong, toned down and well blended. Unique scent, definitely sample first, but i admit, i bought myself a 10-15ml leftover in a bottle from someone because there are days when i NEED this scent. Though for me the full bottle just doesn’t worth the price. I’m glad they sell 15ml bottles now, i think for me that’s the best option out there edit: many people say they can smell tuberose in this, and as i am very sensitive to. florals, because most of the time i hate them, because they are too strong on my skin, i’m almost sure that they are mistaken and there’s nota single flower. note in this scent, because probably i would smell it instatly. Probably they are picking up the chewing gum like scent that i mentioned before, but it’s not from floral notes. It’s cinnamon, something cooling like xilit feels in foods and something very sweet like maltol, which reminds me of cotton candy.

When I first tried this, it smelled exactly like bubble gum to me. Then came the caramel and cinnamon. The sweetness is a bit too much for my nose. The projection is gigantic. I wore this on the second floor and my sister from the first floor could smell this. At first, I thought this was nice and highly likable but just isn't my cup of tea. I decided not to give up on this and give it a second and third tries and how I'm glad I did. The bubblegum smells on my next wear had disappeared and changed into something fizzy, minty, zesty rootbeer/sarsaparilla. It then turned into a warm amber and ended with a creamy sandalwood. It's no longer candy-like to me which I loveee. However, to me personally, I couldn't imagine wearing this in hot weather. This fits perfectly on cold days. The Chronic is sensual and warm, warm, warm. Picture a woman with wavy hair wearing coat and scarf having caramel custard sitting on a bench in a cool autumn afternoon or cold winter day. She has this huge, warm smiles and best hugs that instantly gives everyone comfort.

Many designers and niche boutiques tried to copy the smell of hookah for example Dior they released Tobacolor which is their interpretation of the cool hookah smell. To be short and direct, this is the smell of hookah, it's so close to the point that I will not wear this for office or work meetings in middle east. There is nothing in the market smells this close to hookah period!! I love the scent so much and I'm going to buy the rouge extreme version, it's more thick and smoother. Performance is great (5-7 H) Rating 9/10 I don't usually give 9.

It is such a cozy winter scent to me. While I don't see myself wearing it everyday, there is some days when I adore this scent. It is so cozy and comforting. This is cinnamony, ambery and musky scent, gives cocooning effect. It feels well rounded it to my nose. I like that it is not overwhelming cinnamon spiciness, balanced with more deeper and sweeter notes. Nothing too sweet or too harsh. Just perfect cooler weather type of perfume when you seeking comfort. I would not wear this perfume in spring or summer.

Byron is pretty $$$ but people love the scents and quality. The Chronic and Mula Mula were both on my radar for over a year and I finally recieved Dapper's version of it.... ohhhh boy. This is a fizzy rootbeer/cream soda scent for ya life. Layer with Mandrolo Di Sicilia 😭😭😭 oooooh boy a literal dream! I need to try the real version now ugh 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

No nose, very bad quality, and all the perfume in the same year : brand of dupes 100%. Its not nose but "no one knows" lol. This one is the dupe of Love don’t be shy by Kilian when Mula Mula is the dupe of Ilham by So Oud, a brand of Stephane Humbert Lucas. The originals are so much better and cheaper

Just got a Luckyscent sample of this. It's coming across creamy to me, is there not coconut, vanilla, or cream in this? Sweet smooooothe, like someone else said it's completely linear. I like it, sadly it's crazy over priced. Does not smell like love don't be shy.

Byron is a brand that only make dupes. Oils of very bad quality at $ 30 per kilo sold for $ 250 per 10 ml. No nose, all the perfumes made in 2 years, go on...

I smell cotton candy, patchouli and musk. Very easy to like. Sweet and unisex.

Smells like one million Parfum. Must be the tuberose. Very feminine.
