Cacharel pour L'Homme

Unique... Nutmeg, Fresh Flowers & Citrus! Well, what a journey! Cacharel pour Homme is certainly a unique one! I don't think I have ever smelled something like it before, whether designer or niche. It is a composition based around Nutmeg and Citrus. When I tried it for the first time I thought it smelled "weird" and too unusual for me. Like an old anitque bookshop or a car repair garage. It had a smell of old rusty metal and dust. But I talked to a few people who love it and wore it, and I started to appreciate it more. Basically, this is a unique, refined, very elegant scent. But you need to appreciate it. It strikes me as very refined, like a "gentleman's" smell. I mean old fashioned gentleman with nice clothes and hat and stick. Like Sherlock Holmes. Actually it also reminds me of the smell of clothes a little. Like when you are in the back of a vintage clothes shop and you can smell all the material, like the wool and fabric. Gentlemen's winter coats and ladies fur coats. But, I tested it again with an open mind, and I started to appreciate it more. The combination is mainly between nutmeg and bergamot. The rest of the notes play a part to support these two main ones. So for me all the herbs like lavender and sage etc come together to help the bergamot, along with vetiver and musk, carnation, lilly-of-the-valley, ylang-ylang & sandalwood etc all supporting the nutmeg. It's actually quite a complex scent! and yes, I've grown to like it more and more! Another reason why I think this is nice, is because it doesn't smell like the other typical 1980's style perfumes (I mean loud or strong)! It is light enough to not offend anyone, and I think it has a unique sweet smell that comes through in the dry down. I know women who wear it and I think it's because it has a floral quality which shows especially in the dry down. So in conclusion, I think people should check this one out, because I can't think of another fragrance with a prominent nutmeg note (could be niche)? and also because it doesn't smell like it was made from that era. It's light and sweet and floral enough to be worn by anyone, regardless of sex. A very pleasant smell and it doesn't smell like anything out there in my experience. Very pleasant and nice. In the drydown it even smells like warm skin, it's really nice like that. Could be a warm, seductive smell if worn in the right occasion. Alluring. It's also quite inexpensive, and although I am not a huge fan of the bottle, it looks pretty unique too. So if you like nutmeg and fresh flowers... check this out!

My skin, no matter how moisturised, tends to eat fragrances. Strange, then, that this one which hasn't got a reputation for longevity lasts a very long time on me. Something about it clearly suits me. I've been wearing it a lot in the week that I've so far owned it. I'm just starting out on my fragrance hobby and therefore aren't as articulate as some in describing what I get from this. However, smell is subjective and I can't make you perceive scents the way I do. To me this is very calming and comforting. Not in the sleepy way that something like Al Haramain's Night Dreams is but because of the fresh warmth coming from it which I take to be the nutmeg. The crisp and light woodiness gives it masculinity. It reminds me of the woodwork room from when I was at school. Dry shavings with just a little plastic and sweet PVC wood glue. There's a pleasant sweetness which reminds me of natural honey and not the thick caramel I get from fragrances such as Raghba or even the bubblegum/candyfloss sugary sweetness in Eros. I detect a soapiness too so all in all this Cacharel gives me the feeling that I've just alighted from a hot and invigorating shower using unscented natural soap. A feeling of light crisp cleanliness which perks me up but paradoxically gives me a feeling of warm comfort at the same time. It's linear on me.It strikes me as being mature and wholesome (or rather grown up) without being staid or dull but I think it would also work on a young man in a formal setting.Very pleasant and inobtrusive while still having enough projection to remain noticeable to others closely nearby for the eight or so hours it works on me. I rate it very highly and for a 49 year old man like myself I think it's suitable in any situation. A real gem.

Cacharel Pour Homme seems to be one of the more misunderstood of male-marketed 80s fragrances. The understated masculine elegance is a stark contrast to the muscled powerhouses fueling the market at the time of its release. No leather, no civet, only mildly musky, Pour L'Homme sought to perpetuate the heritage of the well-groomed and well-heeled man. Gerard Goupy, known for his contributions with Lancome (Balafre, Climat, Magie Noire) exhibited his artful restraint here, choosing to accentuate an aura through aromatics, most notably nutmeg. It is this nutmeg, warm, dry and woody, that ties the elements together. The bright bergamot settles into supporting florals, discreetly, including a sheer, yet ripe ylang ylang and a dianthus-pink carnation accord. An aura, not a cloud, a mood that isn't necessarily an attitude. Not that I would ever scoff at clouds and attitudes; they have their place and I love to indulge in them. Pour L'Homme is perfect for spring, a midway between frost and humidity—breezy and tactile, yet its transparency doesn't stifle. Its creamy, floral, woody dry down would appeal to those who favor compositions from Jean Claude Ellena, particularly in his Hermessence series. I must point out the comparison between both the 90s and more recent formulations I have: the former is a bit more full-bodied, while the latter is more nutmeg-forward and subdued, but still lovely. I must also point out that I love the way the nutmeg merges into the vetiver far into the dry down. I am endlessly thrilled with how various notes and accords interact with each other, the eclipses, the transitions. It's so stimulating to the nose to tune into the development of fragrance and note how the scent molecules behave over time.

Not every person can say that he/she loves Cacharel pour Homme for over 18 years like I do. Thats a proper devotion and my love doesn't fade even slightly. So I deserve to write a big-ish review for that reason) New version is weaker and far too many citruses, you just have to wait for that magnetic fir with nutmeg and sophisticated, flowery, sagy heart to arrive through synthetic citrus-mist. It fades away during five minutes, thank goodness. And you are in heaven. Yes, I would buy new version as well, as at least its very recognisable, unlike many other reformulated beyond themselves gems. Oh well, I ve got a vintage bottle anyway! Or better say - bottles, as I just buy one after one 7.5 ml vintage minis in order maybe..to stop the clocks? To be back in that sunny fall day again, when I am, being a first year student with two pigtails, came to the shop to buy a fragrance for our professor(a present from whole group) but ended up spending my few months pocket money on bottle of this beauty. I couldn't let it go... And 18 years later guys from Uni can email me, asking "So whats again the name of that fragrance you were wearing back then?.. It was so great!" I also met many women(as myself) and men, who couldn't explain their eternal fidelity towards Cacharel pour Homme, what captured us all in this never-ending romance, probably its like one of those people, who's charm has no borders and bottom line, no matter how many years you know him, there is always something new and intriguing yet so familiar and reasurring. Its kind of Habit Rouge in its chic - murky and dusty, but ambery instead of vanilla, classy and yet so easy to wear. I better stop here, coz I can go on forever. Try it, people.

Relatively 'under-the-radar' until now, this is a scent that I've seen on the shelves of local chemists that I ignored far too long. Its simplistic looks and packaging have been crying out "come and take a sniff", but alas it was only in 2017 that I discovered this hidden gem. This could easily be the find of the year for me! Cacharel Pour Homme really is THE fragrance for winter. Who would have known the humble nutmeg could be the centre point of a fragrance? I am reminded of chef Rick Stein's comment that nutmeg is "the scent of Byzantium" - it definitely comes off as noble and ever so classy. Citrus, flowers and spice is what it’s been described as. Often this description is enough to put me off even trying a scent, but with Cacharel, the nutmeg comes across as smooth yet spicy, strong and long-lasting yet never overpowering or cloying. Totally refined and good enough to wear dressed up or dressed down, you will have people wondering “what IS that smell? I know it somewhere”. Without a hint of sugar, syrup or honey, this is a bone-dry scent along the lines of Malle's French Lover / Bois d'Orage. In fact, it’s good enough to make you wonder why niche scents exists. Cacharel Pour Homme dates back to 1981 – an important year to me – and this is the quality of scents made back then. I’ve worn it as a scent on its own or as a base for layering with other contrasting scents. Strong and long lasting, classy and quite unique, I wouldn't be seen dead without this in my fragrance wardrobe. Easily a 5/5 for me.

“Yes this is the stuff I have been searching for since I joined here.” Fortunately my brother remembered this ancient diamond and now I can finally share. This was my first love for mens fragrance. A few weeks after my visiting uncle from Germany gave me a bottle on a trip to South Africa, in the mid eighties, I knew then that I will always love this. Naturally I am going to be biased in this review. Bias as this magic potion carved the most profound memories from my late teens. Besides smelling amazingly citrus, sweet, spicy warm, woody all at the same time, the quality was unbelievable. In today’s terms, longevity was first class. I recall waking up the morning after an amazing night out and still smelling this on me! Compliments were regularity tossed my way. Reading this 27 years later and understanding a tiny bit more about notes, I can appreciate why I enjoyed it so much. The pyramid is right up my EDT alley. Not only was this a new experience, but a new journey, fortunately with an OUTSTANDING EDT! I see the bottle has changed, still looks awesome though. And without doubt, the original formula has also changed as with all of its peers. If it is even remotely the same formula, I highly recommend this. An absolutely brilliant Woody Spicy fragrance. I agree with each positive review here 100% and will undoubtably get my hands on a bottle of this again.

I always look upon this bottle with fear because I have one from 1988 that came in a pressurized container. One little push of the spray nozzle and a substantial amount would be gone, so I very rarely use it. (..and I'm so glad we've moved on to natural atomizers!) Cacharel PH opens up with a citrusy nutmeg interlaced with woody notes that lasts only for a few minutes, and then the florals come out in full force. However, the word floral is a misnomer here. All those flowers somehow merge into a woody rose on a bed of something unguent...like unscented topical antibiotic cream. It's an excellent abstraction and I can't really discern any of them except for the cyclamen. The whole middle resembles Jacques Polge's style but without the orris butter and Givenchy's Insense pulled several notches down. The base is the classic combination of cedar and vetiver with that medicinal cream "smell" that doesn't go away. I suspect the propellants used in this bottle's formulation may have contributed to this. I haven't tried any of the later reformulations, but hopefully this particular monkey wrench isn't there. This was one of my favourites until Beckham's Instinct supplanted it.

A kaleidoscopic perfume: just when you think you've grabbed its bergamot, spicy opening, it turns into the most beautiful floral, woody scent with nutmeg lingering through, then vetyver, cedar base...all these multifacet dimensions that change and interchange in a complex mix of all the listed elements: but it's the mastery shift and relationship of those that matters. Yes, kaleidoscope is the first association I get from Cacharel pour Homme, for its complex changing patterns in elegant, classy reflection and as an image often used in the eighties to represent all of the multicoloured diversity of the era as well as a kind of a futuristic aspect as a metaphor. I remember Cacharel Pour Homme being very present during the Eighties. The scent is unique and original in two words: simply wonderful. It catches the essence of what a perfume is all about, a journey. I have many loves from Cacharel, LouLou and Anais Anais being one of them together with this scent and from some "newer"( end of nineties that is) productions, "Noa" is a delicate beauty I can capture as a strong like. Cacharel's perfumes are original multilayered classics with character, sensual and distinctive.

Muscade élégante (Vintage) Senteur 9.5/10. C'est une petite madeleine de Proust qui vous emmènera immédiatement dans les années 80 avec peut-être plus de plaisir que bien des parfums de l'époque. J'ai une tendance à aimer l'odeur de la noix de muscade, aussi suis-je vraiment porté à adorer ce parfum classe et classique, élégant et décontracté. Tous les ingrédients ici sont fait pour mettre en valeur cette muscade. Ce parfum beaucoup porté dans les années 80, et notamment en discothèque, pourra trouver sa place plutôt en journée, par temps frais, en ville. Longévité 2/2 Sillage 2/2 Masculinité 2/2 Ce parfum doit être réservé à un homme élégant, il le sublimera en quelque sorte ! Evolution 3/4 C'est cependant vrai que sa muscade persistante peut finir par lasser. On le portera peu, pour à chaque fois profiter du plaisir de sa redécouverte. En fonction des réactions qu'il procure, notamment chez sa partenaire, et du fait que la muscade n'est pas une odeur appréciée de tous, on l'adaptera selon les circonstances. Total 18.5/20 Chef d'oeuvre.

This fragrance reminds me of the old adage ,'Teach a child the way he should grow and once he grows he won't depart from it'. I practically grew up on pastries-even got a nickname at uni for it-and the aroma of flour mixed with spices has never got out of my memory.this fragrance brings it all back.forget the other notes in here.All I get prominently here is nutmeg.I love the smell and the taste of it even to the extent i put some in my tea on regular basis.Now I dont have to worry:I will 'reek'of it anytime,anyday.Those who cant stand it around me can get stuffed! If you are not familiar with this spice then this is not for you. It's a manly fragrance that I have overlooked for years and been chasing Nemo instead.Call me a latecomer but this is pure bliss for the memories it evokes in me. Very long lasting,spicy and elegant.Despite it being around for so long, I dont feel it's dated at all.this could easily be associated with something coming out of L'artisan and worth its affordable price for what you get.And oh,it does smell natural

I bought this today after 15-20 years and it brought to my memories images of youth....how remarkable fragrance is and after so many years, so many perfume releases? Cacharel pour l'homme is was and will always be a legend....Hopefully it will never be discontinued. Much better than Armani pour homme and Eau sauvage....long lasting, manly, woody, spicy, citrucy, a perfect compination of nature. It brings to my mind a strong man of nature in early 40s who is leaving in the forest, cuting trees for the fireplace and has a taste of classicism and culture! Cacharel is rather expensive today for such an old fragrance and you can't easily find it....there is no any man who lived that era of 80s and did not wear cacharel for a while! It was the flag of male fragrances and unfortunately, after that Cacharel house did not show anything remarkable...maybe because we all expected to see something even better? Maybe because everything is compared to the original? Who knows! The thing is that Cacharel is Cacharel, and will always be!

26 years after my first bottle, I am now reunited with an old and very dear friend. Indeed, the words of a fellow, & revered, Fragrantican have never rung more true... ..."Perfume is a time machine. It can transport you to a very special place in your mind like yesterday" For me that Time Machine is Cacharel Pour L'Homme. The stardate....1985. Suddenly I see the face of the girl that gave the gift - wonder what she's doing now ?, college corridors & friends faces I haven't seen for 2-1/2 decades, state of the art vehicles that turned to rust years ago....an Apple Macintosh computer I can carry around, with 512Kb of RAM and a 16MHz processor...WOW, what a world I live in ! They say everything changes - everything has. There are few exceptions to the rule, CPH is one. Groundbreaking to me now as it was then. Truly unique, I've yet to find anything with such an individual identity, presence... and personal WOW factor. Clean, refreshing, intriguing...beguiling. Another beauty for the "classic" end of my shelf.

Earthy, Natural, Versatile! If someone says, "You have to pick 1 fragrance for the entire year", Cacharel Pour Homme will be my 2nd choice after CDG2. It is enough to describe this scent with just a couple of words; smell of nature. Just close your eyes and imagine you are in a forest after the rain in fall season. Combination of earth, trees and the flowers gives the smell of Cacharel Pour Homme. Opening is a bit strong, but after 30 minutes, great, creamy drydown will welcome you, Longevity is average on my skin about 6 hours. Sillage is very good first 2 hours, than it settles down. This thing is one of the most versatile frag i have ever own, because it fits every occasion, any clothes and any seasons. Although pour homme was created in 1981, it is hard to say that this thing is old fashioned. How could you describe a clean, earthy smelling scent as old fashioned? This is not for florting teenagers, who wants agressive and alluring smells; it is for calm, confident and cultured guys. Overall: 8/10

An unusual fragrance. A superb one. Delicious. Almost a niche unisex perfume. An huge dose of nutmeg and ylang ylang draws a futuristic landscape. Well, I mean the pure nutmeg oil officially smells like an industrial product, but Cacharel is also sweet and flowery, so must be that combination that makes me think to movies like Metropolis or A Clockwork Orange, must be also because in someway this fragrance has something of the 80s and smells a bit yuppie, a blend of metal, wood and smoke, like a meeting room in a skyscraper in New York of that period.. I suppose. I belive is also inspired to A Parfum d'Aventure (L.T. Piver) now despicably rebaptized: Epices. Actually was my vintage period and I was looking for some reminescence of the 80s scents. I remembered my brother had one bottle of Cacharel pour l'Homme that I was used to steal, than I bought this, like 4 years ago, in summer, I re-weared while i was into a camping-holyday. It was perfect to breath it through maritime pines.

Like that super gorgeous person you fancied at school that just isn’t the same all these years later. That’s Cacharel pour homme. I first came across this back in the eighties when my friend’s older brother would wear it out to nightclubs. He was something of a ladies man and I thought he was ‘the man’. Needless to say, I got hold of my own bottle when I started work in the late eighties ( along with YSL Jazz) and would continue with it till the late nineties. I always got compliments - this wasn’t your typical macho 80’s powerhouse, but more of a refined earthy, floral masterpiece which exuded elegance and class not the vulgar, in your face, loud and brassy formulations like Kouros et all. That was all yesteryear and now endless reformulations have left Cacharel pour homme more akin to the old gent in the nursing home, regaling anyone who would listen,tales of wanton youth. Such a sad end to a once great fragrance.

It was 1998. I was in a club in the outskirts of Prague. A young Czech guy walked by me and he smelled incredible, even through the dense (and gross) cigarette smoke. I got the nerve to walk up and ask him what fragrance he was wearing. He was flirty and mischievous and told me that it's his secret and he did not want anyone else wearing "his scent". Eventually I walked back up to him and told him that I am living in California, so I will not be stealing his signature scent. On the way out of the club, he leaned in and whispered in my ear: Cacharel pour L'Homme. This scent is warm, woody, smoky and tons of nutmeg or cardamom. It is unique and smells timeless. The current version starts much heavier with a strong vodka/alcohol smell, but settles down to how this used to smell. Longevity and sillage are for sure less than it used to be, but the main scent is the same and I love it!

During high school and college I had two signature scents. Kouros en Cacharel. I detest the current formulation of Kouros and do not wear it anymore. But Cacharel to me is not outdated at all. It is elegant, fresh, kinda dry, cosy, comforting and non intimidating. It is a nutmeg scent, but not in a kitchen way, more like resin from fresh cut trees mixed with citrus. I love it, and wear it on many occasions. I stacked some bottles up for the event that it gets discontinued. Did I say I love it? Current formulation seems to have quite a bit less longevity than back in the eighties. I got my hands on 4 vintage bottles recently, but all of them were 'off', had a banana-thing going. I'll stick tot the current formulation from now on, it is still pretty good.

This fragrance opens as said with a lot of nutmeg but turns into something quite beautiful and sophisticated after 10 mins already! When the citrus and flowers start kicking in this scent is very hard to resist! It smells unique, sophisticated, chic and very masculine! This frag is pretty versatile as it is good for office, casual and formal but mainly indoors, imol! It turns into a close to the skin scent after an hour but it's not a cloying scent so it can be applied liberally to extend sillage and longevity which are average to me (6 hrs). It is a big mistery to me that this gem gets bashed by Turin in The Guide by giving it only one lousy star! To me it's excellent, timeless, unique, for the real man and many thumbs up! Rated: 9/10

I disagree with the reviews saying that CPH has not changed - it most defiantly has. I have just purchased a superbly preserved 1987 splash bottle . There is no harsh opening & the very strong nutmeg opening in the current version is not there . The modern version is a very decent reform , when compared to kouros or paco rabanne , it has not been butchered , but ... Modernised .given the restrictions over the last 13 years , CPH is still a worthwhile buy in current formulation as performs well & has a stronger nutmeg note . The citruses & notes in general are not as smooth & seemless as the original ( but 80's quality ain't there no more ) but it stands proud as one of the best 80's reforms out there

after reading all of the wonderful reviews on this gem got ahold of a small splash, what a delightful discovery, this truly is a wonderful , masculine great smelling cologne, it reminded me of something i had in the past..and trying for the life of me to connect with..the one the comes to mind is polo crest..not positive because i do not have that any more to compare..but even so, i will be purchasing a full bottle of this gem, i think if everyone could have this in his collection..it is truly amazing masterpiece to me..absolutely love this scent...wow..so glad i checked on this one...thankyou all for the insight. appreciated and happy smelling!!
