Eden

(This will be a long read, skip if not seriously interested in the fragrance world.) Eden is a pagan fragrance. It's seer chanting proverbs to protect femininity. Its spell wrapped around priestesses' virgin...to keep the serpent away. To protect. A temple mist. Chantings. Washing before entering eternity of the spirit. The will od Allfather. The law of nature. Eden is the will of nature captured into the bottle. The will of natural force, that serpent cult can't break. It's the perfume of truth. Not lies. That's why serpents don't like it. They are afraid of it... The truth could set them free. Good. Stay away. Spell of Jean Guichard works. He is a seer. Mitranir. Oracle. To this day. Jean said once somewhere: "Nature inspires me." Rest of his opinions, nobody asks him. Ever. To the good nose, mind and spirit he speaks through his masterwork. It is a big loss... the ignorance in which this civilisation swallows itself. Ever seen a documentary about Jean Guichard or a serious interview? Imagine he would explain his ideas, visions... He should as he is the ultimate nose. Serious artist magician of smell storytelling, and where every story he told had flesh on it. It's not bone. He could easily retire after Loulou, that's how big that perfume is. And if I make a serpent joke... After Eden, he could die. This masterpiece deserves a category for itself. No, this is not green floral. No, this is not fruity floral...this is the FOREST elixir. A substance believed to maintain life indefinitely. As the definition says. Substance to cure. This scent cures the spirit. Here fruit notes don't behave like fruit. They behave like RIPE fruit spirits. No, this is not a smelling rotten fruit. It is peelings of RIPE fruit. What do you think, inside the Garden of Eden fruit to consume is unripe? Do you seriously think that? Gods would tell you to eat an unripe peach? No, they thought humans to enjoy just the right ripe fruit. Pleasure is in ripe fruit. Food is sinful if we overreact or if we consume it unripe. See where the master perfumer entered this? Food is the first attraction to break a will or to sustain a will. What is the hardest habit? What makes you ill if you enjoy it too much? Food. "Come, Eve, look all this ripe fruit, enter the risky middle world with me. See the lotus Eve? If I dip it into wine it will make you slut. My priestesses, like feminist Lilith, is." Works like sexual loss Viagra for both sexes. Lotus vine. Ask ancient Egyptians. They use it as a sexual orgies drug. Do you still think Jean Guichard is just a chemistry master? Let me add more. Second, just a second, before Water Lilly opens the garden of alluring...SERPENT shows itself. Black locust. Not the blossoms. No. Wood itself. Wanna know why a Black locust, like a black magician, or serpent cult leader is presenting a serpent? The leaves, bark, flowers, and seed pods are poisonous. Even to animals. And this note stays almost till the end, and that battle for the soul of femininity lasts almost 12 hours! Wondering through the forest. Facing day. Facing night. Facing weakness, facing strength. Because every single flower used in this pagan seer protective serum has its own story. Who is Mimosa? Why that name? What does it do? It's a flower scared of light. Loves dune. Mimosa got her name from a mimic of animal sensibility. It's a trickster to drag Eve deeper into the serpent world. To open the testing of female strength. To test our female nature. Now, when Eden is drugged out with lotus sexual vine, the mimic will continue... Smell the Black locust? It's persistent, wrapping itself around your skin, and trying to penetrate. It's strong and stubborn like locust wood. Doesn't rot easily, but water, clean forest water is dangerous to this poisonous serpent leading Eve away from Adam, leading her together with Mimosa and the intoxication of Water Lilly... The more poison works, the more we sweat, the more we hallucinate. It's a final test of this magnificent, masterpiece base note. It is an earth and forest aldehydic coat of security. Wanna rest Eve? Let the cinnamon peelings calm you, and let the Patchouli soften you... Shhhh... Shhhh... Water is dripping. Mist is rising. The forest is chatting. Birds are silent. Always silent when evil enters. Lilly of the valley mixed with forest water made Eve totally lose her body. Lilly of Valley is toxic. Eve swims inside the indigo light. Between life and death. Serpent thinks she won. Wrapping the cold reptile body around Eve, wanting to penetrate her. To dirt Eve. Tonka beans tree under which Eve is losing the fight throws the beans, hitting her head (your nose). Waking her! To run. Run. Run. Jumping over waters... Running deeper into the forest. Oakmoss leads her to the white light. Cedarwood showing her direction (another very male note)...till Jasmine rips the fog. Do you know that Jasmine is a very male flower? Belonging to ancient gods that loved Oleachea? Do you know that the substance inside Jasmine called Jasmonate is a key substance responding to stress and heat and LEADS other plants? To safety. Do you understand now why Oleacheas are god's plants? Jasmin or Adam waits there. He already orchestrated the forest to chant to Eve. To lead her to him. Whoever ever thought Jasmin was a female note or flower is wrong. Very wrong. Seer knows that. Hanging a branch in front of his cave. Males must lead. Must protect he whispers... Fulfilling the prophecy. Eve resting in the arms of Adam, like roses swinging under the forest trees. Raining again... That's Eden. The law of nature. Ultimate perfume masterpiece. Scent of surrender to evil and finding strength to do the will of nature. To embrace femininity to the last atom of existence. Females can only do that with males. Roses don't like to blossom when exposed to constant wind. Do you understand why this pagan elixir ends with a beautiful rose? Floating... Silently. Like moon waters flow through the female body during ovulation. In need of male protection. To end. To add. I sniffed this elixir the first time when it came out. I got a small bottle. Original one. In the Italian magazine. It was a humid fall. I was flushed with street water by a local bus. I was pré puberty girl. Wet walking home. Happy with my regular magazine buy (that magazine is ruined these days btw). With a little green bottle in my purse. Later it became my signature perfume. I adore it. It touches every person. Some hide. Some ask... Serpent cult priests are afraid of it. Spell works... Plants have spirit and character... They talk. To magicians. I literally know where I smelled it the first time in my life. Standing on the hill going to the street where I grow up. Under Black locust trees. I had no idea magicians of this universe chant to me. This strikes me to this day. Do you believe in coincidences? I don't. As the law of nature is not a coincidence.

As splendid as Anne Flipo's composition for Frederic Malle may be, and it's quite lovely, the true "Synthetic Jungle" for me is that of Cacharel Eden, Jean Guichard's surreal and polarizing creation that pushes the boundaries of where a perfume can go, blurring the lines between natural and artificial. It begs the question of what makes something synthetic seem natural, and vice versa, with the concept of ethereal water lily as its starting point, radiating outwards into the realm of hyper-verdant, unfathomably lush leaves and oblique aquatic accents. What does stand out to me is a black locust note: the pendulous, clustered flowers of the tree Robinia pseudoacacia. This tree flowers in late spring, with its inflorescences similar in appearance to that of wisteria or laburnum, with a creamy white color and an intoxicating fragrance that is similar to sweet pea, jasmine, orange blossom, and a high methyl anthranilate content that reminds one of ripe concord grapes. I absolutely love their scent, though the tree itself propagates like a menace and can be invasive in some areas. They grow FAST and spread FAST, treacherously thorny and difficult to remove. But their flowers as they blossom for just two short weeks: divine. Anyhow, five minutes Eden recalls them and just the overall feel of approaching humidity during their blooming period. Beyond that, there is this peculiar wavering between the smell of true, fleshy, over ripened plants and fruits and plastic office plants: yes, plastic. True foliage mingled with plastic, and I love it. At one stage, it's as if all the foliage and fruit, real and artificial, is soaked with rain. Then what comes to mind is that of sun-warmed bamboo, sliced aloe vera, milky exudates from rogue vegetation, fermented roses and decaying mimosa, artificially-flavored pineapple candy, the wrappers of Now and Later or Starburst, even the smell of jackfruit. Yet, throughout all of this, there is a certain elegance surrounding Eden, it feels at once baroque and futuristic. It interrogates the wearer on what fulfills and also chills them. What warms them but also has them pondering connectedness (or disconnectedness) with their surroundings. When Eden recedes, it does so in a poetic way, with each strange plastic, dayglo-green leaf and curious drunken fruit slowly crossfading into another realm, that of sandalwood and patchouli, glimmers of the bittersweet and post-rapture (!) clarity, still treading between "is it live?" or "is it Memorex?" Real sandalwood? Of course not! Real patchouli? Surely it is. Or is it? Or is any of it real? Does it even matter? That's the brilliance of this strange and wholly satisfying creation with an acquired taste.

I’ve been wanting this for ages. It isn’t available in stores where I live, so I had to blind buy it, but I wasn’t scared. I knew that I would love her, and I was right! I had the same feeling when I discovered Angel, which is my favorite perfume. What a strange, beautiful creation this is! The first time I sprayed Eden, it was intensely floral at first, like being buried in a big, bold, intoxicating bouquet of white flowers. After a few minutes, they faded and left a lush, green, fragrant swamp where a very peculiar fruit grows, behind. Not quite melon, not quite pineapple, but similar... Rich, deep, slightly spicy, non-gourmand fruit, balanced and grounded by woodsy notes. A little plasticky and synthetic, but in a good way... it tickles my imagination just right! It adds to the mystery, somehow - feels a little sci-fi, fairytale-like, and surreal. No decay. If anything, it’s weird because the fruit smells a little sterile, in a sense... like, a genetically modified fruit grown on a spaceship, specifically made not to rot. Or a peculiar combination of fruit and flower that grows and blooms on a curious planet in a galaxy far, far away. It makes me think of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, more specifically of Nausicaäs garden lab. The performance is impressive. When you first spray it, it’s quite loud, but calms down and then the sillage feels just right. I get whiffs of it when I move around, but I don’t think it fills a room. It lasted well over 8 hours on my skin, although faint towards the end, and lasts even better on clothes. One day, I hadn't sprayed it on my skin, but I was wearing a shirt that smelled of Eden, from wearing the perfume on the day before. Then I changed clothes. A couple of hours later, my boyfriend came over, and when we were hugging he wouldn’t stop telling me how good I smelled, asking me what it was. That was Eden. A few days later, I sprayed Eden on a knitted sweater and a week later, I still got whiffs of it from that knitted sweater. Incredible, isn't it? For that price! ... Unfortunately, this perfume changed for the worse with maceration. After just a couple of months, it became greener and woodier, with weaker performance. Now it’s cold, plasticky-powdery and slightly bitter and camphorous. I can't pick up any floral or fruity notes. I still like it; it’s still a strange, interesting statement, but it’s not a love anymore. I will be more careful with how I store my next bottle because I absolutely adored how it was when I first got it.

How NOT to test Eden: fresh out of the mailbox, after days traveling in trucks, when the box and the bottle were ice cold (I live in a very cold climate). I was so excited and eager to try it that I tore off the packaging, opened the box, and sprayed it right away on my skin... Whoa! Bathroom deodorant! YUK Huge mistake! I remembered that perfumes, like wines, need to be at the right temperature to offer their best. The molecules need time to settle. I had to step back, let it arrive, set, and warm up (I even held the bottle between my hands to assist the process). Some time later, I tried again. First, I sprayed it in the air... hello powdery, a silky powdery opening. Then, I sprayed it on paper. A completely different story! It's fresh, I get some camphor or menthol and bergamot. Then, vetiver and moss. At this point, it leans almost masculine. Vetiver is a familiar note, it reminds me of a cologne my dad used to wear when I was a kid. Finally, I sprayed it on my skin. The bathroom deodorant slowly turns into a cozy note. I'm not sure why, but I can't stop smelling my wrist! I keep picturing a thick, juicy, green aloe leaf. I don't think I actually smell aloe, but maybe I was reminded of it by the shape of the bottle. And then I get fabric softener, or dryer sheets, but the kind that I love. It keeps warming up and getting cozier, there's something so familiar about it! I looked up the original commercial on YouTube, and I finally got it! I do believe that, at least back then, the perfume ads were more carefully created to set the tone, mood, and atmosphere the fragrance is trying to create. To me it evokes a summer evening walk, it's humid because it just rained not too long ago, and I'm passing by someone's home, and they're doing laundry, and I smell it from a distance. One of my favorite smells. It took me about 40 minutes to fully appreciate its deliciousness. Eden is aquatic, green, and sensual. It evokes A Midsummer Night's Dream for me. There's something trippy and delicious about it, lush and green, like that scene where everybody's lost in the forest, inebriated by summer. Its soundtrack is Delius (Song of Summer) by Kate Bush. Oh my gosh. This is just amazing. I can't stop smelling it. I am transported right away. Eden opens so many different doors in my mind. I love it.

I spent weeks reading reviews about Eden, and I felt I had read everything: that it smells like a witch’s brew, something dark, rotten, moldy, damp... and I genuinely did not understand. I have just received it and sprayed it for the first time, and I am honestly surprised by how different it is from what I expected. To my nose, this is a lush garden. Yes, there is a humid, misty quality, but it is the humidity of vegetation — leaves and flowers after rain — not decay. The opening is unexpectedly bright and sharp. Bergamot, lemon, and mandarin create a piercing, almost sparkling effect. It tingles. There is something watery here, but it is inseparable from an explosion of florals. The composition is dense, heady, and generous. Tuberose is prominent — creamy and bold — paired with mimosa and a subtle bitterness. I usually dislike melon in perfumes, yet here it is surprisingly beautiful. There is freshness in Eden, but not the freshness of early spring. This feels like spring at full maturity: humid, fertile, and intensely sensual. Everything feels refined, translucent, and green. Nothing here is light or discreet. The saturation is high, with several beautiful notes unfolding at once, like a complex story that draws you in. That is Eden to me. This is still very much a first impression — I am only about thirty minutes into wearing it — but so far I find it fascinating, and far more beautiful than its reputation suggests. Edit: After wearing Eden several more times, I find it increasingly harmonious. It is undeniably special — a point on which I agree with many others. It can be too much for certain occasions and is not a fragrance I can wear every day. However, when chosen for the right moment, the experience is remarkable. When I let friends test it, the word that comes up most often is “elegance.” Personally, I find it difficult to define Eden with a single adjective, as the olfactory journey is quite unique. I associate elegance with other perfumes in my collection; for me, Eden is above all a highly sensory fragrance. It evokes a place rather than an emotion or a mood, which makes the name “Eden” particularly fitting. I also find it especially beautiful when applied away from the face. Avoiding the neck and arms allows it to unfold differently, and I enjoy it very much this way.

Plastic fantastic! Eden feels like plunging inside Aqua’s World, circa early 00’s. Synthetic made class, today we feel something like Synthetic Jungle gives the middle finger to synthetic fragrances and portrays artificial naturalness and we think all woody aromachemicals are interesting and the goat. Never. Eden, while a 90’s bird, is so early millennium. Just like Rush, which came after, Eden is a neon hologram of a new world or a new planet. The ads made you believe that in a crystal clear cascade, with bright colored flowers and birds, rebirth was taking place. Somehow it does, and while Eden matches that imagery, it also feels futuristic and avant garde. It was avant garde! Back when mellow peaches and powdery resins ruled supreme, Cacharel came up with the idea of a near future landscape. But we didn’t get to see the aftermath of the ad; skyscrapers, glass and loss of identity. Eden tapped that world and made it smell gorgeously artificial and natural at the same time. Melon and pineapple Calone overdose; a hint of cucumber freshness. The crystal cascade with bright colors, that still; danger lurks underneath. Leafy greens, unlike the inky galbanum and oakmoss of before, surrounded by flowers of all shapes and sizes and colors; the rebirth of Eden. A powdery trail, with a synthetic feel, and a hint of vanilla and bubblegum; the great unknown. The explosion on skin feels deeply calming and surreal, as if the new world order is taking place. We are no longer individual, we are the same. Lauder extended the nice colorful place with Beyond Paardise. Gucci unleashed Rush as the sex club downtown that feels like a cross between the world of John Wick and Terminator’s Tech Noir. Hypnotic Poison was the Belle du Jour on almond scented drugs. We thought we knew how the world would become. We didn’t. Eden, like Rush and Hypnotic, smells out of time and space. It’s a work of art (wearable) that managed to portray otherworldly sensations. If ever there was an Alien perfume (apart from Alien) it’s these two above. And they’re absolutely stunning for it! Eden thoughts based on a 100ml 1994 bottle. Rush on a recent batch (very good still) and Hypnotic on various 1998 and 2000 batches. Eden is a modern masterpiece in the whole sense of the word!

I am new to this fragrance, so no nostalgia from me. Anais anais was one of my first signature scents in high school in the late 80s, early 90s, and i do continue to wear it a few times a year. I wanted to love this based on the wild reviews. I don't quite love it though-- just like it very much because it is unlike anything else. I have worked with lotus and water lily absolutes, and with both, there is a great potential to come across as swampy and dirty. Not fecal in the same way other white florals can get, but more like garbage. A heady, intriguing, lusty sort of moist garbage. Eden has this quality, but not to the point of repulsion (at least for me.) I think the juicy rooty patchouli and the damp must of cedar somehow convince me it is a pleasant wet aroma, and not uncomfortable. If there is something nauseating about this fragrance, like some say, I believe it is the peach note, and not the lotus and lily. I agree with others that there is a childlike quality to it. For me, I think it is because it totally smells like concoctions I would smoosh together in my backyard as a kid, bottling debris and flora up, smashing it all to bits to release their hidden essences, forgetting somewhere in the hot sun to fester and ferment, only to then find it a few weeks later. It smells like a child's discovery in a brief fleeting moment of genius. But then again, it also smells as old as Goddess-- ancient and preternatural. It smells like a saying I've heard before-- "The goddess in me sees the goddess in you." That's what comes to mind when I meet Eden. *Edit. After 4 hours my conservative test spray became very tame and well behaved, so I returned to the bottle. I went against recommendations from some below and sprayed myself with abandon. It is much more playful in this concentration. It's mimosa, melon, and peach in a giggling frolic on top of everything else. What a delightful trip. *2nd edit 3/7/22. After a few months, I have absolutely grown to love Eden. I like to believe I am one of the lucky few on whom it smells amazing, because it does to me anyway! However, i'm wearing it today and my son hugged me and asked 'why do you smell like poop?' so.... despite my adoration, eden continues to polarize even in my own home!

Where to begin? I don’t know where to begin. I have wanted to try this fragrance for so many years. I had gone many years ago to a perfume outlet or emporium where I wanted to try this fragrance but they had no testers and every bottle was nicely wrapped up just sitting in the shelf. So, I shelved Eden. But lately I really wanted to try this perfume and I blind bought it. I researched reviews for quite a long time and was absolutely APPREHENSIVE about trying this because of the rotten fruit reviews, garbage smelling reviews and other scary reviews 😂 but I decided to try it. Oh my. What a beauty. Maybe it just works for me. I am so glad it works for me. This smells like a beautiful, lemony honey something on my skin. I couldn’t pin point anything distinct at first (except for powder) but this second time trying it, it has morphed into something that makes me break out into a huge smile as I smell it. I am sorry I cannot delve into the notes but as I am smelling it now, it smells like honey on me ...a really beautiful, earthy, powdery, honey. It is sweet, but not sugar sweet. Which I am so thankful for because I really dislike sugary fragrances. It does have a vintage kick to it but not in an unappealing way. It truly is other worldly. I don’t smell a lot of green and I am not picking up the patchouli, but rather a white floral, lemon-honied, powdery dimensional fragrance bomb... absolutely. I. Am. Thrilled. I can absolutely agree with someone else who commented here, that Eden chooses you. I love reading how it manifests differently on different people. This is one of my favorite adventures with perfume. You never know what you are going to get. This is really phenomenal 😅😊 I am so happy and want a backup bottle. I am certain no one else in my sphere of influence will be smelling like this and I love that. So sorry for others that found this to be a scrubber on them. I do hope you find the fragrances that make you break out into a grin as you smell them. 😊🙏🏽

I have a feeling this might become my signature scent in five years. Bottle embodies the vibes. It's for a mature, but down to earth woman. She's calm and the scent of her is comforting. She doesn't shout, wears baggy clothes and listens to one-hit-wonders of the 60s. She has curly hair and owns many plants in her room. She's a bit of a bohemian, and reads books in her van when she travels. This is her favourite scent. Enough with the made-up persona. Time for a description: This is a STRONG scent at the start. If you want a strong scent that lingers on, this for sure does the job. I've changed clothes and can still smell it. It smells unique. At first I did not like it, stating (to myself) that this is the category of perfumes that I do NOT like, but it has very quickly grown on me, and I'm glad I was incorrect. For a while, probably due to the melon, it gives very summer beachy vibes, somewhat sandy. It's a beautiful scent. It's floral but also a bit fruity, and I've fallen even more in love with it by writing this review. Important to state that it is not blind-buy safe, and not for everyone, but patchouli lovers (not that it is the main note) might appreciate this scent. It's the type of scent you might have smelled a lot when you were younger (it's been around since the mid 90s) and it might be for me, hence why it seems so comforting. It is avant-garde and it is special, and in the decade owned by sol de janeiro and ariana grande perfumes, this may turn more heads. The fact that this is around the same price is them is shocking, considering it's much of much better quality and strength. This scent really made my day better, and I'm sure it has brought many smiles to thousands of different people from different generations. I am so glad I decided to test it, after looking at the familiar bottle. Like a siren, it called me, and, like a lucky fool, I went to it. This scent deserves triple the amount of compliments I've given it so far. It's great.

For those who are willing to embrace its boldness, Eden is a magical, transportive experience—an enchanting, floral escape that stands out as a true original in the world of perfume.

I live in the UK and this fragrance is sold in drugstores at such a cheap price that it’s almost free. Cross the Channel and go to Paris, and it is one of the most exclusive and expensive perfumes you can find, Example: I bought 50ml at the duty free of the Paris Eurostar terminal for €72, equivalent of £62. I went to Superdrug in London today and bought four £30 ml for £64 (equivalent to 120ml). So my advice is, for those who like me LOVE Eden, to cross the channel and buy it in London, if I have not bought them all by then 😀. It is even worse when you compare retail prices without the duty free between the two countries as, in Paris, perfume shops sell 30ml for... €67... Performance wise, it is a beast but not in the harsh way. First, I do not understand what reviewers mean by saying it smells of plasticky flowers. Do plasticky flowers smell?... To understand Eden, you need to wear it in different seasons and circumstances: wear it in winter and it will be comforting and you will be wrapped in a soft blanket of different flower smells. Wear it in summer and it will feel cool, clean, almost salty like a soft beach wind. Eden it is very close to Gaultier Classique for women and Prada Paradoxe which are perfumes of 2 different periods and at the antipodes of each other. It demonstrates that Eden is still pretty much perennial and long-lasting. Finally, Eden has not changed much compared to the 90’s and that’s a tribute to Cacharel. Beautiful and timeless. Edit: £29 at Boots for 50ml. A bargain!

I sprayed this on me at a store right before a trip and it was an immediate regret, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. The opening was a straight up heady floral and it immediately made me think that this feels dated. After the first five minutes a bit of the melon and peach came through, along with a strange plastic note. It still stays mostly fruity floral and the plastic note lingers for a bit, and then it starts to get murky as the patchouli and sandalwood come forward. I am having trouble describing the entirety of the scent because it smells greater than the sum of its parts. I like that its green in a damp, decay-like type of way. The fruit is adding to that. This is not my usual taste at all, and my first reaction was "why did I spray this", but it really stuck with me as it started to develop, and I also loved how nostalgic it smells. I think this is definitely not a blind buy or a crowd pleaser, make sure you test it out before you get it or gift it. It lasted about 4 hours on me and then fade out pretty quickly, but I applied it sparringly. Sillage is also strong but not overbearing. I would not necassarily wear this in a professional setting due to its potential intensity, but if you are careful it when applying it should be fine. I would wear this in rainy or damp weather, but avoid it on hot days. Fall would be a good time for this, and I want to try it in winter just to see which notes would come forward.

Undoubtedly one of the most unique fragrances ever made. It’s unforgettable, although as many indicate, not to everyone’s taste. It has a bold edge to it which makes it a considered purchase, not for its reasonable price tag, but because it’s not just a nice smelling scent suitable for work and for most social occasions. I had the fortune to work in a perfume hall for just short of a decade and this is one of the few fragrances which I can recall in my ‘minds nose’ instantly. It’s that distinctive. To me it is an experience, like that of a six hour car journey where one might travel through a futuristic urban landscape at dawn right through to a heady and exhilarating ride on a narrow road surrounded by verdant countryside, just after a violent summer storm. Once the initial sharpness of the opening subsides it has a very enchanting effect from the middle notes, and the fruitiness. Patchouli seems to announce itself strongly throughout the experience, so if you are not fond of that note then I’d recommend you avoid Eden. The dry-down is exquisite, for me happening after around 3 hours and lasting for over a day. The Tonka bean gives an exotic and other worldly feel, slightly reminiscent of the base of the original Dior Addict before that house ruined the formula, as Dior seem to do regularly. Spray carefully, from 20cm out so that you’re misted rather than drenched, this is no subtle scent for the faint of heart.

This is very nice for its price. It smells like spa. Way more camphorous and medicinal than you would think after seeing the notes. I expected an aquatic fruity patchouli dominant floral but to my nose its very calm and green. Not necessarily lush. It isnt dry but its not rainforest wet. The patchouli is rather prominent, but its not one of those dirty earthy smelling patchoulis. Its effervescent and fresh, almost minty. Not bitter whatsoever. I dont get much floral in here. I was hoping i could smell the black locust in the drydown (one of my favorite trees and i cant wait for them to bloom every year for so i can smell them), but it doesnt develop much. Its long lasting and pretty powerful. This scent Smells very natural and very real, like it was made with actual plant matter. Its just a tad powdery, in the sense that its not sharp and kind of hazy. This is extremely unisex to me. Theres not a single masculine or feminine facet about this Longevity is amazing. Cacharel constantly reminds me that perfume quality isnt determined by price, especially not these days. Their blends always smell exquisite and they are very long lasting. Can u believe this is the longest lasting perfume in my collection? Something that costed me only 17 euros? It doesnt smell screechy, it doesnt smell like alcohol. It smells fully natural yet so otherworldy and honestly very unique. Theres a lot to love here

Wow, finally got myself a bottle of Cacharel's Eden! Im a bit surprised that it does not smell dated or old school (to my nose). This scent really reminds me of Maison Alhambra's Bright Peach in the opening and early dry down, but gets more of a floral/soapy nuance along with that peach/mimosa the further it gets into that dry down, just beautiful! Kudos to (Coppersulfate) who commented below that Eden "smells like spa".. I couldnt agree more, and just couldn't put my finger on the type of freshness this scent invoked until I read that comment. Perfect description! This is a very Peachy, floral, fresh and clean scent which sorta surprised me as Ive watched a lot of YouTubers who say that Eden smells too dated and just plain odd. I purchased Eden bc one of my all time fave reviewers Dacob spoke highly about it and he made it sound so unique and special, and he wasnt lying. I think Eden is quite unisex and has a unique clean freshness that can be enjoyed by both men and women alike. This is quite a beast performer and the sillage is quite strong so its best to go easy on the trigger. 9 outta 10 in my book (Rare for me). It's Almost perfect! Again, very unisex, very nice addition to my collection. Love it ❤️

I agree with @Notdenisey just below me. If this fragrance were packaged in a Montale "cannister" or a Mancera bottle, it would DEFINATELY pass as a "Niche" fragrance. It's very Unique, Devisive, VERY Potent... Yep! Sounds and smells pretty darned NIche to me! Its even "Unisex" leaning feminine like many Niche fragrances today. I also REALLY like that its not all that popular, so not everyone is walking around smelling like Eden. I think Dacob from SuperDacob's channel described ithis scent best when he described this scent as vringing to mind the abundance of fruit there would be in Eden, and that fruit juuuust starting to go over-ripe because of over-abundance. That mixed with the huge beautiful flowers there would be in Eden... I like it!🫠😉 Also, Im a guy and Ive been complimented on tbis scent, just keep the sprays to a minimum bc It does lean feminine, but because Eden is more Fresh than it is sweet, on us fellas with just a couple spritzes, its giving us a long lasting (hint) of that fruity-Spa-like-freshness which just suits everyone me thinks! Beatiful fragrance which lasts FOREVEAH!

Oh Eden, what a journey we've had... I smelled Eden a couple of years ago in Boots, and I was absolutely repulsed. To me it smelled like mould and rotten fruit. Honestly never smelled something so rank. Just a couple of months ago I was Boots once again scouring through the testers on display, and out of curiosity and intrigue I tested Eden again, and lo and behold, I was taken aback. This actually smelled good this time. I eventually determined that the last tester had gone off, and in that moment I went ahead and bought a 30ml. Because it is quite polarising I hadn't gotten to wear it much...that is until today, that is. I was craving something green so I dug out Eden, spritzed and oh boy!! I now love it. It's humid, vegetal, green, floral yet fresh and a bit fruity. I can't even describe what it is really. It's just unique and perfect for hot weather if sprayed lightly. It also layers lovely with Philosykos. Longevity is fantastic too. Goes strong for at least 8 hours. And another good thing...my partner likes it. Eden is a weirdo, and I'm glad to have grown to love and appreciate her.

I've been wearing Eden for 4 + years, on and off. It's unique, and you either love it or hate it. Methinks it's a masterpiece. Not only is it beautiful: Eden REALLY projects, even though it does it in subtle ways. Upon the "plastic smell": I find @Eliza13's recent remark ⬆️ absolutely valuable. I must admit that I would have liked that note even if it were artificial, because it's something I only smell upon the first sprays, and because it's always immediately followed by a medicinal note, similar to that, for example, the Be-Total vitamin B pills used to have ( I don't know if they exists still). That too I only smell upon opening the bottle, so it's a sort of surprise and then reassurance to me. Then the scent begins to unfold and it's just heaven - starts with yellow melon for me, then mimosa, and all an orchestra of scents - but I don't remember perceiving those plastic+medecine notes in the ensuing period. I never did smell the decaying note. Eden is a being of beauty. Whoever created it has my absolute admiration - and gratitude too.

This is such a special, unique perfume. NOT A SAFE BLIND BUY. (But also it is not expensive so if you're curious....) It truly smells like a wet jungle. Or a flower bouquet in a vase that is starting to slowly decay - not enough to throw it away yet, but you can smell it a little bit. It is mature, little bit distant and dangerous. Not warm and inviting. It is bold and confident in its own jungly way. It does not care to please you. If this was made today, it would be a totally niche thing. Somebody here said "a swamp, but beware, a witch lives there" and that is absolutely right. Apart from the green wetness, I smell hints of exotic fruits, but not enough to call it a fruity perfume. Florals are definitely present, although there is not a single flower which I could identify. Hints of decay and nastyness. The longevity is INSANE on this one. Lasts forever. Pretty strong as well. Amazing performance for the price. Definitely not a crowd pleaser lol, it is very polarizing - you either love it or hate it. I happen to absolutely love it.

The most interesting and beautiful perfume I have ever smelled in my life. It feels like being in an otherworldly, incredibly clean flower garden — almost extraterrestrial. There's a sense of wet blooming, like a fresh, dewy morning in a surreal landscape. It's a complex texture that’s hard to describe. Fruity notes rise from underneath and add a creamy dimension. Every time I spray it, I feel like I'm embarking on a cosmic journey — like stepping into Alice's Wonderland. It makes me feel like a fairy. I absolutely love it. Everyone who smells it on me says they've never encountered anything like it before — it's truly unique. That’s my genuine observation. BUT... I was disappointed with its longevity and sillage. While many say it's incredibly long-lasting with strong projection, on me, it stays close to the skin and fades quite fast. Still, this doesn’t stop me from wearing it. I fell in love. Lately, I’ve been layering it with Lancôme Idôle EDP, and it creates a beautiful harmony. It’s not just a perfume — it’s an experience.

Ngl, when I first saw this perfume, I thought "that's a shitty bottle". Then I remembered niche brands release hand shaped caps and phallic-shaped bottles and I felt less judgemental about it. I also need to confess I decided to try the fragrance solely on the name being close to a Sleep Token song, not expecting a perfume to take me back to.... the people that get it, get it. I have no idea how white or yellow florals should smell, and the melon being listed there is a red herring to me, because it doesn't give fruity vibes at all at any stage. Instead, it's just... right, and decadent smelling. It gives a mix of a floral bouquet laid on a tomb in a parisian graveyard, and the faint smell of a stream filled with aquatic life. Maybe this is a very primitive description of water lily notes, or just an attempt of describing what it feels like to me. It does project well, but only because it's heavier on the floral notes. I'd use it late summer throughout all fall.

Finally a perfume with a melon note that I can wear and does not turn badly sour on my skin! It may either not be present or be a honeydew note, juicier and a hint sweet. What I know is that this one works on my skin! ----- I am describing the modern one, it may happen that the old one is very different, I don't know. This is an interesting one. Green plants but also softness, airy and watery but in a warm-ish morning way. Difficult to describe. It's not powdery per se but shares that feeling of enveloping hug that the airier powdery perfumes sometimes have. At the same time it's more that that. Clean but not sharp, green and vegetal but not sour, vaguely fruity but not sweet. I think the best description I can give is "airy warm". Reminds me of the airiness of Noa, but if Noa is a winter morning, Eden is a green, dewy, spring morning. Not challenging, but different from the current "clean" fragrances.

If I were a witch living in the mids of woods nearby a swamp I'd be wearing this. The " bog sorceress" as Elena Vosnaki described, narrates this scent perfectly. This is a truly enchanting, bewitching scent and there's nothing like this. Sadly my olfactory memory implies to me that the older versions in the late 90's and early 00`s had more depth, more powerfulness and more magic. Is it really the the truth or just irrational, scented memories drifted through ever mischievous time, I can't really tell. My olfactory nose isn't sensitive, so I get muddy, earthy tones mixed with florals and herbs from garden of Poison Ivy. This is one of my favorites in my collection: unique, mysterious and feminine. The bottle is surprisingly boring and mismatching with the content, but easy to use. Longevity with one spray is about 6-7 hours. The Scent: 9 / 10 Longevity: 7 / 10 The bottle: 6 / 10

Reading about how divisive this perfume is I'm thinking that no-one chooses Eden. Instead, Eden chooses its wearers. I seem to be one of the lucky ones. I've owned my bottle only a week but I must have once known someone who wore it, or maybe I wore it in a previous life. Whatever, despite its strangeness - and I won't repeat all the bizarre notes and effects which are amply described in the reviews below mine - Eden is deeply familiar and yes, comforting to me. The main note I get amongst many is patchouli. Cool, lean and clean patchouli. Not manky, like you get in the essential oil, but a long way from the sweet girly patch kicking up its heels in perfumes like Coco Mademoiselle or LVEB. Not a dumb reach, not a safe gift or blind buy. Not office or commute friendly unless applied very sparingly. I never want to be without a bottle of this ever.

I always say, that a perfume should not have gender. So as a man I love to smell and wear this amazing perfume. Now, I do not know a lot about accords and staff like that, but I do know what it makes me feel when I wear a perfume. And I guess that is the main purpose of a fragrance... Make you feel things, take you back to a place, bring back memories, etc. When I wear EDEN, I feel confident, I feel nostalgic, mature and a child at the same time. It smells like a jungle would smell after a storm. Or in this case. Eden would smell after a storm. Like when the rain falls on flowers and the dust from them mix with the rain. Powdery, wet, heavy. If I had to describe this perfume using a song, that would be Tanita Tikaram - Twist in My Sobriety. Next time you wear it, listen to this song and you will know what I am talking about. ;)

A very green, grassy scent that you can clearly tell it comes straight out of the 90's. Someone below mentioned that it smells like a "clean perfume" for strange girls, and I think that's a very accurate assessment of this scent. It lasts forever, and for me, two sprays behind the ear are enough, and in the summer, two sprays behind the knee, and then the scent lingers beautifully and works with the skin, creating a nice harmony and a very strong green, patchouli scent that also has a lot of fruity notes. This isn't a blind purchase for everyone, but it's definitely for those who like old-school perfumery and like perfumes that are strong, work with the skin, and transition beautifully from each stage to the drydown. I don't recommend spraying it on clothes, though, because you'll never get rid of the scent :v

Really nice, humid smelling floral perfume. I grew up with a frog pond in my garden, where lilies were often growing. The smell is comforting and nostalgic to me. The melon adds a fresh, slight aquatic smell to the overall scent. If I were to categorize this scent, I think that I would call it an aquatic white and yellow floral with a strong undercurrent of natural greenness. I gave this as part of a gift to my mother for xmas based on some complimentary things she said about it, and I'm already feeling the itch to restock my personal supply. While I don't think this is a scent you should wear every single day, when the weather is chill and damp...absolutely divine. Suits the british wet season like a glove. Anais Anais might be my daily spray , but Eden is my statement piece.

I have a bottle of this from the 90's that came with 2 other miniatures (Gloria/LouLou). I bought it for the LouLou and tossed the other 2 into my closet. I finally put some on today, and after the somewhat sickly opening, it becomes quite beautiful in the dry down. I can't stop smelling my arm. I also can't think of anything to compare it to. I am not usually a patchouli fan, and even though I can slightly smell it, the way it is blended with the other notes brings out its positive aspects. The negative reviews all describe the opening/top notes very accurately, but if you can make it through that, it is gorgeous. I usually force the dry down with a hair dryer when trying to wear perfumes like this, and it works like a charm. I've never smelled any of the newer versions.

Been working away on this one for a few months. I Implore people not write it off too soon. This is getting better and better as winter settles in. Highly recommend spraying into the air and then catching some mist on your arm or wrist rather than spraying directly onto skin. A little goes a long way and it's exquisite in a light dose. Otherwise a full heavy spritz may be off putting and it takes quite a while to dry down. This helps to bypass the initial pungent overripe fruit stage. Truly a masterpiece, bizarre and other worldy. Wearing Eden is an activity unto itself. I absolutely think they could release this as niche today and charge a lot more. Indeed, I get hints of it in Xerjoff Opera's opening. This perfume is bonkers and I love it!

This was my signature perfume in the late 90’s. I had a pixie haircut, I wore dark lipstick and my favorite group were The Cranberries. Many years afterwards, here I am, with Aura being my signature scent, two perfumes so similar, hearty, green and mossy, unique and polarizing. While Aura is now discontinued, Eden keeps on being produced and I am so happy to own a bottle, even with a reformulated juice (that does feel like the original). I remember spraying this on my scarves and foulards, smelling its dry down was comforting to me. This is not for everyone, it’s bohemian and hippie, it grounds you while lifting you up. Adding that when I was wearing this, someone told me that I was smelling like LUSH (may be the patchouli note).

No logro procesarlo, es como un shock, como desbloquear algo que creías perdido pero que nunca supiste que existía, algo que puedo decir con certeza que jamás sabré qué, cuándo, dónde ni por qué.

The reviews made me steer clear of this fragrance. Oh how wrong I was. I should had sampled this gem sooner. As a patchouli lover, I have to say hands down, this is one of the most complex and interesting scents I will be adding to my collection. It starts strong. Green and sweet, but there is a slightly bitter and aquatic quality to it, I suspect from the Lotus. In about 30’ the patchouli and tonka start smelling sweet and herbaceous without being too overwhelming. It definitely is a nice mix between a vintage and modern smell. I would assume that the target audience for this fragrance is 30+ as it may seem a bit “too serious” for younger audiences. I can’t wait for my new bottle to arrive!

You're at a rave in the jungle. The humidity is heavy, the leaves are thick and glowing green. Writhing dancers clad in flouro and body paint move as if in a communal trance. Salty sweat, body odour, the smell of sex. You stumble off to take a leak and find yourself surrounded by dark, thick growth. It's wet, so wet. You lost your shoes, you feel the damp soil between your toes. It starts to rain. The techno is thumping, the cicadas are screaming. The jungle feels suffocating. You close your eyes, you breathe in, and let yourself be swallowed whole. It's carnal. It's primordial. Mother Gaia would approve.

Ive commented on Eden before here on Fragrantica, but this is my SOTD today, and I felt inspired to say that as a guy, this fragrance just makes me feel sorta Care-Free, fresh and feeling like im just smellin' GREAT! A little bit will do ya, so two spritzes fo sho! Today I did one on the back of my neck and one on my arm so I can sniff on it throughout the day bc it is strong and very long-lasting. I enjoy the floral/fruity freshness, but without the insane sweetness like in today's trends. Yeah, there is about ZERO sweetness (To my nose). A Bizarro, Avant-garde, beautiful-Neon-Garden Called Eden!

It's really bizzare and complex and I love it. I can understand that not everyone will click with this scent and that's okay, I guess this one's really love or hate. If you're into pretty and generic scents only (don't get me wrong, I love many pretty and generic scents), there's a big chance you won't like this one. The strange thing is that I mostly don't love older scent profiles, but it's their humid warmth that repulses me, and Eden is very cold, distant, green, but powdery at the same time. If it was a movie it would be something that Lars Von Trier would make, melancholia perhaps.

My God what a glorious Forest Nymph she is! There are few perfumes in the world which really stir one's soul and for me, Eden is the epitome of this feeling. I bought a 5ml splash bottle from Ebay, Eden in her purest and original form. It's like opening a bottle of magic, transporting you to THAT Eden and Adam and Eve are on their way toward THAT tree. I take no issue with the Serpent, let her have her way. To attempt to describe Eden in her notes or to try to pin her down is a frivolous exercise; she wants only to be worshipped. And worship her, I certainly do.

This is one of the strangest perfumes I’ve ever tried. Green? Yes. But WET. It’s like a temperate rainforest, but on another planet. It’s also fruity, devoid of sweetness. I loved when perfume houses took chances on avant- garde oddball perfumes. It was love at first whiff and this could be a signature scent for cool girls. If you wear it/try it, do yourself a favor and spray it away from your nose. Knees and wrists only because Eden is a nuclear blast that will not go away until you shower. Trust me you’ll still smell it all day.

Like a breath of spring breeze from an enchanted dreamcore vaporwave forest. It has its hyper futuristic and simultaneously nostalgic quality. It starts off sharply, but then settles down after about five minutes. The scent is dominated by sweet tuberose and very fresh lily-of-the-valley, paired with something freshly green and something reminiscent of glossy paper. Then, after about 30 minutes, fruit begins to emerge, especially peach. It's very unusual and surreal and easily outshines many modern niche in terms of uniqueness

The creamiest lactones I’ve ever smelled. And my absolute favorite mimosa. Continue to be surprised and delighted by the quality of each and every note, and their incorporation with and throughout one other into just ripened fruits and just bloomed flowers floating in sweet cream poured over freshly cut wood. Great longevity. Added bonus: one of the very few tuberose notes that doesn’t make me nauseous, so I get to enjoy it. Did NOT expect to love this as much as I do. I love it a LOT

Deep and weird Green character. It's the sound of an amateur women's orchestra tuning and warming up. The opening confuses. Exotic and humid. Giving vegetation, more so than just flowers. Swap connotations arise with some imagination. Maybe very ripe peach, dewdrops on memory-grass, sticky melon, refreshed with tingling bergamot bugs. Yes, served on plastic nostalgia. Warm sunlight meets snooty curtains of an Extraterrestrial firtility clinic, pollinated, kind-spirited adventurous

This is a unicorn - a sweet green fragrance... I did not know it existed and that I needed it. This is what turquoise and pink would smell like together. And wow the sillage, 1 spray is enough but even with 3 or more sprays it does not get overwhelming and then lasts for hours, what magic is this? Be warned this is mainly sweet, it might not be the fresh or floral green fragrance you were expecting. It is like biting in a green apple but it turns out to be cake.

I have an older bottle of this, I think late 90s? To me this smells like a beautiful alien's approximation of everything green. It has a harsh and plastic edge that manages to feel intentional and beautiful in contrast to the ripe, jungle earthy facet which is so masterfully natural? that it feels like a trap. Smells like a perfume a dangerous alien would wear after sliding on a skin suit to create some natural odour. Smells like subterfuge.

This scent used to linger around my grandparents’ house, especially bathrooms where it was sprayed - the sillage and longevity are top notch. The scent itself is so magical, it feels retro and suits it’s 90s release, while not falling behind modern fragrances. It’s a timeless floral, herbal, even fairy-like smell that’s insanely hard to describe in words other than beautiful and artistic. Love it so much

If Shrek and Fiona had a signature scent this would be it. Think swamp witch green concoction with notes of decay, despair and death. It’s strangely intoxicating and I shuffle between adoration of this deep, dark green forest scent and then waves of “have I been poisoned by a fairy sprite” nausea. It’s otherworldly and almost mystical. It will evoke strong emotion and I doubt you can ever forget it.

Its unusual. If Issey Miyake used halicinogens and went back in time, then ran nude through an uninhabited jungle, he might have conceived this fragrance himself. Eden is strong and remains complex and rich for a near eternal amount of time. Its a wet, damp smell similar to a botanical garden. Though it's balanced, it threatens entropy at every sniff. I'd say that it smells expensive and niche.

I will love and defend Eden until my dying breath. This is perhaps my favorite Big Floral Fragrance of all times. This is not just a polite and proper delicate floral bouquet. No, Eden is an entire ecosystem with stale water, reeds, wet, luminous, radioactive tropical greenery. It is a masterpiece of the 90's avant-garde perfumery, intoxicating, incredibly rich. A floral maximalist's dream.

I just came here to say that I have been scared of this one for a long time. Only because so many reviews said it was some weird crazy UFO jungle. I finally got to test it at a perfume store. It's actually nice. I smell pineapple. It's a little "grapey" smelling like the white flowers in Alien. (Ha ha....hmmm....Alien. I guess it IS a UFO)! I wouldn't mind having a bottle.

This to me is an outdoor scent. A strategic occasion scent. No matter the season. It's delightfully original & green. I pick up the melon & aquatic florals mainly, but the peach & citrus come through slightly & the woody/cedar dry down is nice. I don't wear it often, but long hours outdoors is the perfect wear. I do wear it around the house though just to smell it. 💚

For those who love mimosa, the absolute protagonist here, it is almost a must.

I scored a 100 ml vintage splash on ebay, what a find! I adore this perfume! To me it's a sweet tuberose, mimosa, water lily, something to die for! I love how intoxicating it is! I love how some hate it, some say it's cloying, I love that I am able to enjoy it so much! Not the sweet you find nowadays, no , this is like crushed big leaves on the bed of fairies!
