Homme de Café

Wow. I love it. Very classy. Very unique. And I love the cloves. If you like Dunhill Edition I think you will really enjoy this but they are not overly similar. The mysteriously invigorating wet moss/clove/pepper/citrus hit is the overlap but homme de cafe is darker and more surreal nostalgia where as Dunhill Edition is refreshing proper Green Irish Tweed ambiance. Some fire pit vibes with Homme De Cafe. The haters on this one are simply embarrassing themselves. NOW about the sillage and longevity. I got mine at $10 for 3.4 ounces so for something this stirring the performance is just fine. The sillage isn't strong but it does reach out like flame lit scented fuel fume tendrils. The longevity is comparable to Cuba offerings but you get a slightly longer skin scent. So don't pay a lot of money for Homme De Cafe new or vintage and you will love it. I just bought a bottle of Black Point yzy brand $10 clone of Armani Code. Now that one is not unique and there are MUCH better shaving cream fragrance choices like Armaf Legesi and Afnan Modest Une for $20-$30 so I would always recommend those instead. Dunhill Edition does have a lot better performance and is a very logical choice but I think the sensation of being magically transported to a 1981 buzzing shopping mall where even the new wave punk rock people are more or less freshly scrubbed and bright eyed optimistic browsing at Spencer's gift shop... for this I think it deserves a place on the elixir shelf. I will at least sample Givenchy Xeryus to see how similar that is and to check its performance level. I trust SPNKr so I won't put any real $ on that unless I discover something amazing in it. The last thing I want to mention is that in my first career life I was in retail and something about Homme De Cafe just smells like a retail store. Maybe a slightly dusty new linen note or the smell of new business suits-I will contemplate further. Dunhill Edition is classic but it does not have the shopping mall time machine alchemical property to it.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 073 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased June 2019 [Originally posted on the blue bottle page in 2019 before this proper Cafe was available on Fragrantica] I have the brown bottle (Homme de Cafe) apparently first made in 1978, unless the fragrance house started back then, otherwise this is also from 2002 like the blue and green bottles on Fragrantica are. I really like it. It smells like the '70s, '80s, '90s and 2000s bundled together. The warm spice of old and the opening warm but bright fruit at the beginning. It ends up smelling like a coffee bean almost. It's maybe an acquired taste, but it's growing on me so I'll be enjoying this more and more over time. A real mature scent. In fact, this is a more obnoxious perhaps even more strong in general alternative/cheapie to Givenchy Xeryus. If you're known for being a bad mofo you can get away with Homme de Cafe and also save yourself a lot of money skipping on Xeryus (which is a great scent still). 2024 Update: I absolutely adore this scent. It's very much a pine thing, not much coffee/cafe going on. Excellent day and night year round. There are some places in the world where most scents are 4 seasons, I live in one of those places and this scent fits me and my location. I received this a long while ago to fill out an order, as it was extremely inexpensive. I had no idea it was a vintage bottle, as it turns out to be (not sure if they still make this-perhaps they all are?). Anyway, I forgot about it and just got around to testing it today. Holy moly. This stuff is awesome. It reminds me of Dunhill Edition, almost to a T. I can imagine this is how the vintage Dunhill smells. It is full, rich, nuanced, and smokey. I get a lot of cedar and carnation leaves, but Fragrantica's pyramid leaves out the clove note, which is the most prominent. If you like cloves, get this. The version I have is quite strong. Your experience may vary if depending on when it was made, but this one is a keeper. A tie with Quorum Silver for best Bang-for-Buck in my collection! Long live the great cheapies!

This is a gentleman version of Quorum but way nicer overall, the rasberry note really sticks arround and it does conjure an image of breakfast in a diner, which was the point. This was never meant to smell like a coffee. This is old school so fair warning it is extreamly woody and dry with the rasberry note taking center stage, it is not a strong rasberry but beacause everything else is so woody and dry the subtle rasberry shines. This fragrance is almost academic in a way and it takes some time to love it, I didn't at first now it's amazing

Cloves bomb with Wood and Carnation Leaves - all other notes are harder to detect. The citruses are there, you can feel their presence together with the subtle (reeeealy subtle) sweetness of the raspberry. I like it, it gives out a very Oriental spices vibe - drydown is very nice. Performance moderate, but as expected for the price point and concentration. Recent batch 24A5K320A from Cofinluxe.

Purchased a 1-oz. vintage bottle (three ingredients listed on the box). Homme de Café smells REMARKABLE SIMILAR to Enrico Coveri Pour Homme, and, likewise, in the same neighborhood, Borsalino and Casaque. Seriously, this will scratch those itches for a fraction of the price, it's easy to find, and performance is actually pretty good. Recommend.

This juice, even at its current cheap Cofinluxe formula, is a hidden gem IMO. If you like the drydown of Malizia Uomo Vetyver or Halston 1-12, there's a good chance you will enjoy Homme de Café. Just make sure to buy the right one, the Homme de Café - not Café or Café Café or whatever other variation from Cofinluxe also.

This doesn't smell anything like Cacharel pour L'Homme (that fragrance sucks donkey ballz) . This is a gentleman masterpiece fragrance the complexity and mystery is plentiful in this fragrance. It is old. It smells like how a powerful politician or artist would smell like a hundred years ago. Unique AF

Beautiful masculine fragrance that has this freeze-dried raspberry scent steeped in spicy cloves. Perfect winter pull for such a low cost. That woody musk drydown is pefection as well. Downside is that the cap is cheap garbo which only just holds on for dear life lol

Cant describe how beautiful this fragrance is,its so different and unique. Saw it was made by alberto morillas, an amazing perfumer and just had to purchase No regrets at all,im hooked. If you manage to find this. Get it asap. You wont regret it

Update: It occurred to me that this fragrances smells a lot like mulled wine! Loved it so much I bought a backup bottle, I don't even have to worry about overspraying with it being so inexpensive

An underrated, overlooked gem that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

This one simply does not work on my skin. Do not, do NOT, make the fatal error of sniffing the atomizer nozzle, as though this typical samplong method could reveal the soul of this scent. It cannot. The nozzle lies on this one. It denatures. Certain individual's skin chemistry may find accord with this juice. Mine does not, and I refuse to apologize for my pores. But here is where I, a man of 49 years of hard-won bachelorhood, have discovered its objective highest use: room spray. My home is sovereign territory, redolent of cigarette smoke and the honest fumes of wine and beer consumed without guilt or temperance, and it is ELEVATED by this scent. Ennobled, even. It conjures the bracing grandeur of a late 80s to early 90s department store fragrance counter. That cathedral of capitalism. That gleaming altar of personal sovereignty and faux-niche frag gift-with-purchase. I love it. Unironically. I would hotbox my entire living TOMB for this room spray. Alberto, despite CK One, I will always love you.

I received this from the illustrious DrNDJas, see his review below. Mainly wood and carnation leaves as he says. I can detect (if I try very hard) raspberry and orange. But the great overriding note that casts its shadow upon this fragrance from start to finish is clove. And when I say clove, I really mean CLOVE. Intense, almost aldehydic clove at the beginning, softer woody musky clove at the end. But all clove. Cloves everywhere, a veritable bouquet of cloves. That's not a bad thing, but it should be kept in mind. I like it for fall, and slightly warmer winter days. It's nice, unique, and aggressively affordable, so I enjoy it.

Homme de Café..... ...created in 1978 it doesn't fall into the same category as other classics from that period. Neither is it very complex nor is it very strong but it is very nice. The citrus doesn't last long and you are left with a warmish cedar carnation blend which is sweetened by a whiff of raspberry and softened by a touch of musk. Trained noses can easily pick the notes out. The scent has a c'est la vie attitude and is timeless. Happy to have it in my collection.

not sure if they still make this or not, the one I just got has an ingredient list of simply alchohol water fragrance citral eugenol and a couple others. anyways, there is no website or checkfresh list to check the date code. the fragrance smells pretty good, but pretty light, but it is very tenacious, which could make it kinda cloying. My sense, it;s similar in a way to cool water by davidoff. not in the scent, but in the scent style i guess. it has a light scent, kinda basic, with a few notes. nothing complex. has sort of a aqua quality, a raspberry note and a woodyness, and some type of enticing musk underneath. nothing complex, nothing strong, just simple, but it smells kinda good, but generally, its kinda just ok, a light but lasting woody scent with a slight fruity note.

it's alright. a pleasant French bath that doesn;t cost that much really. it has the somewhat "generic" vibe. It is a similar lightness as with cool water by davidoff. You might call this one warm woods.

Either mine's is a dud or something is wrong. The opening smells like raid bugspray. With a hint of sweetness (raspberry?) not really a good fragrance even at its cheapie price. Dakar, Lomani pour homme or Quorum are better choices (they're of course spicier and woodsier) Edit: i tried this a week later and it kind of opened up more, and is less offensive and raid bugspray like now in the opening.

Don't understand all the praise this fragrance receives...made the mistake of buying into the reviews and coupled with the low, low price of under $10..I pulled the trigger...Who wouldn't? It's a non-descript, common fragrance with no outstanding qualities (complexity of fragrance, longevity) but rather an air-freshener-like product that while pleasant enough, is nothing you should run out to purchase....but, admittedly, the price is quite attractive. Pass on this one...not worth it. Destined for the trash heap...

At the heart, to me this one smells like : Al Haramain Leather oud or La Yuqawan Pour homme or Tom Ford Tuscam leather for the raspberry note. I understand the comparison with Cacharel Pour L ́homme. It has certainly to do with the spice as sometimes it feels i get some nutmeg whiffs in the drydown, but it could be a different spice and not nutmeg. And Cafe de homme feels lighter and more vibrant than Cacharel. But, overall this one is a less "Lemon Citric" and more "Raspberried" Givenchy Xeryus without oakmoss. And it does a great job at it ! Also, feels slightly more modern. But the comparison with the first ones is inevitable for the raspberry note. Still, it ́s lighter than them and careful... this note will not be there right at the start but will arise some minutes later. Personally, i wouldn ́t mind if it was a bit more musky / leathered and slightly less raspberried/sweet. But, this is personal preference and it would be a minor adjustment. Anyway, it ́s cool the way it is - anytime of the year. For a fragrance designed in 1978, all I can say is : it ́s not in line with the era. I am on my second day of wearing this. Yesterday was a small test at home, today at the office. Sprayed 3 times on each arm (over shirt) and two on each side of neck and home and the front of shirt. The atomization is very thin, so this wasn ́t a lot of juice applied. The applier sucks as it easily turns around as you press and eventually the juice goes somewhere else. Bottle looks beautiful, to me. Good projection, good longevity. Signature worthy.
