Calypso Vanille

Amazing!! This is the best vanilla I ever tried. I love vanilla and I was looking for the perfect vanilla scent, some smell too much like candy, while others smell too synthetic - - - this one is the perfect balance. The bottle is huge, so it will last a very long time.

I love, love Calypso Marine, and I really wanted to love Calypso Vanille. On me it's all wrong, and not at all what I expect from a vanilla. I usually wear vanillas well, and I usually prefer drier, more tobaccoey vanillas, so I expected to at least like Calypso Vanille. On my skin this smells astringent and bitter and the vanilla notes are sour. It connotes stale air in a room which has been locked shut for years, that someone tried to perk up with a citrus germicide.

This is odd and I love vanillas. This has some weird musty fizzy thing going on. I just don't dig it at all.

I have a large bottle of all-natural vanilla bean extract from Mexico, purchased at the duty-free shop on my way back home. It smells wonderful, and it cost all of $5. Maybe that's part of the reason why I have a hard time mustering up much enthusiasm for vanilla soli-scent perfumes. Vanilla as the centerpiece of a perfume invariably seems pretty hum-drum to me. Vanilla is beautiful, of course. It is delicious, granted. I have many fond memories of the vanilla we used in an organic chemistry lab to develop thin layer chromatography plates. The smell of cooked vanilla wafted through the air, overwhelming and masking all of the carcinogenic fumes no doubt circulating there. As a perfume, however, vanilla is, again, a hard sell. I love to bake with vanilla. I love to bathe in vanilla. I lamented the discontinuation of the Bath & Body Works VANILLA NOIR line, which, while inexpensive, smelled about as swell as vanilla perfumes get, at least according to my nose. There are entire houses dedicated to the humble vanilla bean, dressed up in golden robes to form the centerpiece of perfume. Les Senteurs Gourmandes by Laurence Dumont offer every single conceivable permutation of vanilla in gourmand perfumes. Would you like some musk with your vanilla? Or some violet? How about patchouli? Or plum? Bourbon? Perhaps you'd like to smell like a vanilla-infused madeleine straight from the oven? Or vanilla-flavored fig? Vanilla-infused monoi, anyone? With this vast array and abundance of vanilla perfume choices, I have to say that Christiane Celle CALYPSO VANILLA is one of the humblest of this already humble genre. Yes, it smells fine. It's a nice, polite and light vanilla perfume. I just cannot get very excited about it.

Calypso Vanille is a very interesting (non-cupcakey vanilla) fragrance that starts off sharp, but gradually morphs into a rich and creamy vanilla. It opens with a tart citric sharpness and a whisper of orange blossom. There is a hint of patchouli in there, which offsets the vanilla's sweetness and in the dry down it ends with an airy muskiness and the ever-present beauty of the vanilla. I love this fragrance, but it's at its best once it dries down, in my opinion. That is when it becomes smoothest and creamiest. A close to the skin scent with good longevity (6+ hours). A little treasure from this house.

On me Calypso Vanille is delicately beautiful. I have to admit that I am not getting any of the listed notes, instead on me it feels like a vanilla/tiare/coconut-y, really likable combo. I really enjoy it, however it is too light, it is too fragile, it is not lasting. In fact on me this pretty little thing is gone within minutes. What a shame.

A sheer burst of vanilla citrus sunshine!Not overly sweet or food-like,transparent and sparkling like sunlight dancing on the water on a breezy summer day! Faint floral notes dance in the wind,while a light musk trails softly behind.Airy and luminescent,a close to the skin scent,love this little gem!

My beautiful sister bought me this for my birthday and i was wondering if anyone could tell me the history of Christienne Celle,it is a georgeous perfume,always gets attention and would highly recommend it for Autumn and Winter.A great unisex fragrance.

A grown up vanilla floral. Not too sweet. Love it. EDIT:It is pretty sweet. Almost pure vanilla to me. Laura Mercier Vanille Gormaunde...now that's a grown up, airy vanilla! :-)
