Covey

So happy to see this very unusual perfume added to the database, as I have owned Covey since 2017. I first bought it as a gift. Then after smelling it on my friend, I bought a bottle for myself. I don’t get all the listed notes; in fact I was surprised to see the list here on Fragrantica, so much so, that it makes me think wires got crossed. What I do pick up is a green, powdery herbal scent. Lime and mint dominate, without a whiff of any floral (I pick up geranium but still, more herbal smelling). On the Capsule website, fig leaves are also listed and that makes much more sense to me than jasmine, coconut or vanilla. Some added synthetics give the perfume very good performance. To this day I don’t own anything else like it. I wear it when I want to give my tired nose a break from gourmands, spicy ambers and white florals — the mainstay of my cold weather collection. Oh, that reminds me, Covey is way too powerful to wear in the heat. This is an herbal winter scent only, at least on my skin. The only downside? It’s hard to find and currently out of stock on the Capsule website.... and unfortunately my husband does not like herbal scents. But I love it so much I wear it anyway.

This is quite a lovely scent. I agree with @bubbles— I would love for this page to be updated with the correct notes. I can see how someone would mistake the fig leaf for coconut, but it really isn't coconut unless you look at the incorrect notes list and think "COCONUT" while you inhale. The mix of mint and fig leaf here is great. The light, white-musk-ish synthetics really do back up the fresh mint note to make it last far longer than is typical of mint fragrances. I can smell a hint of green apple, but instead of a juicy, tart apple the note is more akin to green apple skin. As if just you peeled some apples for a pie and you're sticking your face into the bowl of peels. That waxy, green, almost twig-like smell. This is a good one. Not sure if it's full bottle worthy for me, but I'm keeping it in mind. I recommend comparing it to Saguara Perfumes Coyote Mint. Saguara is one of Capsule's offshoot lines and their perfumes aren't present on Fragrantica. Coyote Mint's fresh mint note propped up by interesting and uncommon synthetics makes those two sit together in my mind. I prefer Covey because after a while Coyote Mint unfortunately gives me a headache. (But don’t let that deter you from trying it because otherwise I loved it and it’s oddly gentle, so I’m not sure why it did that to me.) I also recommend comparing this to Imaginary Authors Saint Julep, which is my favorite of the three. The only problem with Saint Julep is that it lasts ~45 minutes tops. If it lasted longer, it would be my ideal mint fragrance. Covey comes in second. But the search continues!

Testing blind this opened with a floral fruity body with a citrus grapefruit leaning top. At times I get pear, or similar elements and a bit of something funky, or animalistic. As it calms and dries down, definitely getting grapefruit and lime up front with a floral sweetness just behind. It has a nice spring citrus freshness. Looking at the notes only now I missed the mint, but it is definitely there like a fresh mint leaf, and with the jasmine has a bit of a soap freshness, but it's friendly and appealing. I don't get the almond note but you could pick out most of the notes upon suggestion. After some time the woodsy warmness takes hold, maintaining the freshness, but now with a more subtle wood bottom to anchor it. It is hard not to compare to DS&Durga’s Grapefruit Generation (GG), which I have. This feels more feminine leaning, but really only by comparison. I prefer the aromatic feeling of GG, which is more summery, whereas this has a spring awakening freshness. And while I enjoy its brisk freshness and forward citrus, the florals do tend to make it lean a hint too feminine for me as unisex as it really is. Ultimately I think I may enjoy it more on someone else than myself.

Really good herbal mint, but indistinct as to the herbs. Perhaps it's the apple giving the touch of sweetness. Tracking down a fb and I will wear this in the heat of summer.

Just tried a sample of this on the back of my hand and immediately got mint, lime and fig leaf. When I looked at the notes here I saw that mint and lime are the top two. Coconut + apple is probably the fig leaf scent I'm getting. Then I looked at Capsule's web site and, lo and behold, here are the notes listed: lime, fig leaves, muddled mint. Probably the first and quite possibly the last time I will ever correctly get the exact notes of a fragrance. And here's the thing, it's really nice! I'm not a fan of mint unless it's really well blended, which it is here. The whole thing is a creamy green mintiness that is very pleasant. But that's it. It starts that way and stays that way. Is it worth $3/ml? No. That's about what I would pay for a really well done Xerjoff at discount. Covey is something that is more like a drugstore cheapie that gets a lot of love and hype and costs about 25¢/ml. Can't comment on performance but will update after a full wear. Won't be purchasing a FB.
