Horde

I found Capsule while looking for a "sage" fragrance and decided to try their sampler since they promote themselves as a los-angeles coastal inspired company. Purchased in 2025 (small batch producer). Lets see what that means! So, this fragrance was inspired by the people in Venice. I get it; thats the "niche" spiritual community, so this scent is "incense-y". Having lived in Venice, i was hoping it would make me feel at home. However, this scent feels "churchy", and old fashioned. Something "luxurious" is missing. The rest of the fragrances i tested were the Fiele fragrances, which they do claim to be "single note", which should be taken literally, despite having a blend. Each frangance range like a single note. Very sharp and piercing. Unfortunately, nothing about the fragrance blend made these ingredients feel modern. Instead they felt like eau de toilets for use during a time in the past when people were surrounded by lots of other heavy smells, like cigarettes, alcohol-breath, agua-net hair sprays, Dove soaps, etc. While, they do smell very true to the specific scent, they take on a very un-modern aura. What to do with them? Since they seem like quality products, they could really use a pairing: If you are looking for something to use with your "Molecule" scents, or amber-musk-vanilla scents, the Capsule Fieles may be interesting additions to your collections. That said, I wouldnt wear any of them alone because they feel out-of-place in my environments, since they evoke times and places of very old people: lace doilies, vintage shop basements, small town barbershops, grandmas that have passed. Nothing evokes california coastal or the modern metropolis, so thats unfortunate. But having lived in LA, I understand that the idea was to evoke some kind of "authenticity" in the scents, which these single notes frangrances do, and Horde does hit the "spiritual temple" concept, even though it comes off as "dusty orthodox church" (which I have nothing against, but whoever is smelling you might not be into... yet). (Note: I did not get the Sage fragrance. this was a shipping mistake. Ill review later if possible!)

I've tossed all 21 samples into a bag, this is no. 2. I get a lot of green in the opening: light, fresh, and a bit earthy. There's a dry wood on the back end, almost more noticeable when you breath out. There's also some spice to it after it's initial opening. It feels a little too house fragrant for me however. Looking at it's notes now the patchouli explains the vibe, while the cannabis provides some nuances in character, but doesn't really play any meaningful role up front. Unfortunately, the longevity didn't last what's expected and the projection felt rather intimate to the point of nothing different that using good soap. So, a pass from me, but I don't dislike it.

Green green green. And green is my thing. But it’s sort of one-note. It’s like you’re walking through a garden, but the garden doesn’t have much plant variety. I’m not really detecting layers in this fragrance. Love the patchouli (a very fresh patchouli)...but that is most of what my nose can detect. Horde is *missing something*. Also, when I first sprayed it I felt like I smelled herby, but not in a great way. Almost allium-like. Garlicky. I don’t know how to feel about this one. It actually grew on me as I wore it. But like I said, it needs something. I’ll experiment with layering my sample with other scents; I feel like that will be interesting. But this isn’t purchase worthy for me.
