Sid Sottung Academy Barberism

This is another safe buy and blind reach. Though classic and "mature", I believe anyone of any age could rock this. It has all the elements one would want and expect from something of this name, and if you're new to chypre style fragrances, this is a solid bet! Similar DNA to Creeds Green Irish Tweed.... but where creed went wrong, Barberism went so so right. It's citrus, though I'd argue more bergamot than just orange. It's got just a touch of rose to make it clean and crisp in the drydown. It starts off bright summery green, and deepens to a forest shade, just as something of this style should. And at the very end (though present from the first spray) a touch of lightness with the patchouli and musk. But be warned, this can be over-applied - so if wearing in an office, tread lightly. It's not a nightclub scent, more of a pub with friends, or a night out with a love interest. Can be dressed up or down. I would say it's year-round appropriate, but maybe just a bit better in spring-summer-fall. I still see this being nice in winter. First spray: blast of clean green citrus, fresh soap, and warm summer morning air. Delightful. Bright without the bracing qualities of many other barbershop scents. 15 minutes in: there is the rose, but more like a hint, keeping things clean. Still masculine, but not the stereotypical.... its a bit more modern here. The galbanum is keeping it so so greeeeeeeeen and rich. 1 hour in: mellows out from the sharpness of earlier, but hovers around like a wonderful aura. It projects without being ostentatious or obnoxious. The base notes appear here, earlier than expected, but they're supportive and relatively lightweight. 3 hours in: galbanum and rose are still hovering about, but now it's more about that glorious forest-forward classic, but fresh and an early summer day. There is just a touch of an ocean vibe here.... really nice, unexpected, and maintaining the warmth it has throughout. 6 hours in: it's still projecting in a fresh warm cloud, light but really attractive, and a bit sweeter. On clothes, the citrus really stays. On skin, it is sexy moss and musk. I'm so glad I bought it. I prefer this to Green Irish Tweed by far. The lasting power is better and lighter, where GIT is a bit brash and screechy. This is a compliment generator, easy to wear, and goes with everything.

A really beautiful, classically masculine chypre fragrance. Hyper-woody, green, fresh, citrusy and slightly floral. Straightforward. No funny business. Evocative of barbershops of yesteryear. If I squint I can almost see the world in sepia while wearing this. A very easy wear for a man who wants to smell like a man without offending anyone. Perfect in spring and summer but can be worn whenever. It’s really unfortunate that this one seems to fly under the radar of the vast majority as it’s certainly worth a lot more attention. It’s fairly expensive within its category, but a little goes a long way and it’s worth the money. Bought a back-up bottle.

Very nice chypre fragrance. Very classic barbershop, but not too soapy and no eau sauvage dirtyness. Nice deep opening and a solid heart that gives a bit more woods than many others. Hint of patchouli, not so much to overwhelm. Dry down is a bit of a let down compared to the mids, mostly slightly synthetic oak moss and amber accord at the end. Its a pretty modern take on a classic and I'm growing to like it more and more.

Extremely classic barbershop fragrance. Wouldnt purchase something called «Barberism» and expect anything else. To me the scene is a 50’s men’s club owned by mafiosos where liquor bottles clad the tables and pinstripe suits and borsalinos are everywhere. Very mob-movie-like vibes. Feels dated and for 60+ manly men who shave everyday. More urban than rural. Cool and very different in 2021.

Strong fragrance, better than most Captain Fawcett fragrances. Instead of strong aromatic assault this one attacks you with an aggressive lime. I like it and other men will give you complements, but personally I'm not a part of some cool gentleman's club so I have no reason to wear it.
