Lawrence

Opens with a gorgeous jasmine note, then it's like Mitsouko done with apricot, cumin and oud instead of peach, cinnamon and oakmoss. It's very easy to wear while also feeling quite seductive/cerebral, and is also properly unisex in that I really can't say whether this skews more masculine or feminine. One thing that is unusual about Lawrence is the disjunction between the dramatic opening (quite a strong jasmine, maybe some incense also, very beautiful) and the extremely quiet drydown of apricot-leather, as @Expandora points out. Longevity is actually fine, but it keeps surprising me how much and abruptly the volume/strength diminishes in the drydown. EDIT: turns out that in hot weather, the jasmine sticks around much longer - this is a really beautiful summer jasmine-and-spices for evenings out.

Beautiful, relaxed combination of narcotic jasmine and subtle oud, without indolic and animalic nuances. Just enough unisex, with a slight twist to the feminine and with good persistence and projection. Does not belong to my favorite lovers from the series, which are George, Sebastion and Orson, but Lawrence could become a good friend.

Lawrence is one of my top fragrances from this house. Jasmin has always been challenging to me due to its indole nature, but Lawrence combines the Jasmin with some heavy hitters, namely Oud and Musk, that masks the indole of the Jasmin and allows me to enjoy the sweet and green nature of the Jasmin instead.

An hour into spraying on skin, the scent does sort of go, before that it’s a lovely silky jasmine. But I have been picking up on the perfume whilst moving around so for me it doesn’t totally disappear. Then it’s a warm musky scent. I have been really enjoying this, Lasting a good 7 hours but no projection after that first hour. Lasted on the paper strip for 24 hours. So on clothes maybe this would be different.

It was a royal arrival of Lawrence. The scent came strong, Shalimar-like, very richly ‘dressed’ in multiple grandiose layers... And then within the matter of seconds it just deflated, flattened. Did it turn out that the king was naked? No, not really, the scent that stayed on my skin was nice – quiet but aristocratic. Subtly sweetish and flowery but far, far away you can also scent some oud.

Okay, I rarely lack words to describe a scent, but this is the case with Lawrence. The opening is a bit boozy, a bit spicy. But the drydown... It's just strange. It's the smell of an old coat or something similar. The DNA of Roitfeld's perfumes is definitely leaning more masculine and this one doesn't make an exception. But I can't understand Lawrence. At all.

Anyone else get the smell of rubber....as in condoms? When I first smelled it, I thought wow how raunchy!! Carine must have had some “memorable” times with this Lawrence guy. I was so intrigued by the artistry, I immediately looked up the story behind it. Only to find it to be a fantasy......or is it?? You don’t see sales assistants in the malls selling Black Orchid, telling people that TF wanted this perfume to smell like a man’s crotch. But that was the actual idea TF had in mind for that perfume. Maybe Carine did want to bottle one of her most memorable love affairs, but chose to say the entire Lovers line is based on fantasy. Hmm....you make up your own mind.

Balsamic oriental jasmines.... It has that oriental frame of jasmines, traces of cumin, a touch of desert oud, saffron leaves in a musky breeze. I as well get coriander. This blend is kind of leathery when it comes to genre with date like sweet-ISH and cumin jasmines in a balsamic oriental frame. Beautiful.
