Ambar Del Sur

It’s a buttery vanillic amber fragrance. Yes, I do agree that projection isn’t stellar, but it’s also not a skin scent. Longevity is very good and it lingers for the whole day, drawing attention from time to time. Very dense, almost gourmandish vibe, but also a bit sweaty...opens up with a hint of bergamot and spices, but quite quickly settles into a velvety potion. I find it easy to wear, but with a kink twist to it. Hard to describe. To me this screams lust. This is no way near powdery, there is a hint of tonka that can come across as slightly powdery, but I honestly can’t stand powdery perfumes like Teint de Neige and so on...the Patchouly is very transparent and pleasant. I have had this for a year now and it’s a great amber. Ironically I prefer it in the warmer month & spray heavily. Great offering from Carner and it’s totally overlooked.

This is pure joy for amber and resinous fragrances lovers. The following is exacly the picture I get in my head when I smell it: Myhrr and Amber dancing a spanish flamenco with Patchouli. The pace is very very fast at the beginning. Then it slows down... After some time this beautiful flamenco dancer stops, smiles and winks at you with a sweet and gentle look. This is the Vanilla part, but she's still wildly herself and won't change her nature for anyone crossing her path. This is a slightly more feminine Ambre Sultan. It's very very close to it, just less rich than Serge's creation though.

#1313 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Along the line of a less herbal and resinous version of Serge Lutens "Ambre Sultan", which can be a little sharp and aggressive for some tastes, whereas this is more on the cuddly side. About $30 above the price of most of Carner's other scents, many of which I have and really enjoy. Very unisex. Moderate performer like all of the Carner line. Versatile for cool weather wear, but you can get away with it on a breezy Summer's eve. Definitely a romantic fragrance. I don't think you can go wrong with this.

Amaizing, versatile and easy to wear take on amber! I see when people draw parallel with Grand Soir and Ambre Sultan but if you know those two, you might get the wrong idea because this is a very much modified version of... Exquisite, light and airy but substantive enough, sweet but not too sweet. Amper is floral vanilla heavy with smooth creamy sandalwood and resins. I go 50 ml bottle and almost instantly regretted that I did not go for 100 ml :( Great longevity and relatively tamed but present projection.

I like this very much, largely because it is not a typical amber fragrance in today's market. It is not overly sweet, syrupy or powdery. It is a dry amber with a lightly smokey patchouli/sandalwood combo. The other notes are discernible as well, but only supporting players. This is definitely niche quality. Just a lovely fragrance overall. Longevity is good on my skin, and the scent trail lasts several hours. It is leaning male, but would be lovely on a woman as well.

I absolutely love this amber. It is soft and sweet and delicately nuanced. I think it is more feminine leaning than Grand Noir. What breaks my heart is this doesn't last over 30 minutes on me and has poor sillage. I love this one so much that I'm so disappointed in the performance. This is a great brand and I don't normally have these complaints with the line. I don't regret buying my bottle though. I often spray myself if only to enjoy it for a few minutes.

Ooh, I can really smell the myrrh in here, from first spray! I totally agree with the reviewer who commented that this was a "slightly darker/richer and slightly more complex" Grand Soir. The labdanum is very prominent, too. Moderate sillage and about seven hours longevity. I personally don't find any similarity between this and Coromandel or Tobacco Vanille. This decant definitely makes me want to explore other scents from this house.

this is the amber I was looking for a few years back but didn't find then. Not as sweet as ambre d'alexandrie (though I love that too), not as dry as Elie saab amber...not incensey like lots of ambers... this is the golden Goldilocks.... lasts well. Ever so slightly feminine...but that could just be on my skin as it's not overly sweet and only has the tiniest powderyness.

What essentially means "Southward Amber"...Ambar Del Sur is a light, dare I say refreshing amber (wasn't sure one could exist!), lightened by the vanilla...perfect for a light fall day where the weather may still be warm enough to ward off a heavy fragrance...I have fallen in love with several Carnier Barcelona fragrances, this one now added to the mix!

I first tried this as a sample and found it very similar to memoirs of a trespasser. Love the warm amber with a tart almost boozy myrrhic undercurrent. It is lovely on and has decent sillage at first, but becomes a skin-scent after a couple of hours. Either one to refresh through the day or maybe layer if you don't want to top up.

Beautiful warm and spicy amber, but (shame...) it's gone with the wind so fast and that's it! I can't understand, why soo weak the most perfumes nowadays?? And why can make great long lasting fragrances some (painfully few) brand/perfumeur?

One of my favorite amber fragrances. Unique and unlike anything else I’ve tried. Slightly boozy in the opening, but after 15 minutes it turns into pure pleasure. Longevity could be better, but overall a beautiful composition. Solid 9/10.

Love! At firtst there is very heavy patchouli but it softens and almost dies down. Myrrh, vanilla, amber combo is divine. Lasts over 12h on my skin, but doesn't project far. People can still smell you.

I think it is a very good amber fragrance. I think the top note is very good but when it dries down it has a more synthetic smell

This is a beautiful amber scent. It's certainly not the best amber fragrance I've ever smelled but it is completely pleasant and wearable. There's a sweetness supporting the amber coming from the vanilla and tonka bean. It projected well with a nice sillage for the first 3.5 to 4 hours before settling closer to the skin. Unfortunately, there are other amber dominant fragrances that outshine this one on many levels, especially longevity and sillage. I did quite like wearing my sample but when I compare this to fragrances like Lubin's Akkad or MFK's Grand Soir, this one is just okay. Scent : 8/10, it is a wonderful sweet amber. If you love amber fragrances, then you should give it a try Longevity : 7.5/10, I could still detect it on my skin around the 6.5-7 hour mark but after that it was very, very faint. Projection : 7/10, it projected about 3 feet out from me for the first 2 hours and then started settling closer to the skin. I was still catching very strong wafts of it for 3.5-4 hours. Sillage : 7/10, about the same as the projection. The scent trails faded around 3-4 hour mark. Overall : 7.5/10 Final thoughts .... This amber is beautifully composed. Resinous, a bit woody, a bit sweet, a bit creamy but as mentioned above, there are stronger, better performing amber scents out there. That said, I did quite enjoy wearing it and it's different enough from those other amber fragrances that I don't think it is redundant to own this one, too. I don't think I'd dish out the cash and pay full retail, though. Wait for a sale or find it on the grey market.

Forgot to post my review back in Jan 23. Not as pungent/cooking spicy as Ambre Sultan (with the bay leaf) and not as soapy clean as Grand Soir (with the lavender) but sits exactly in the middle of both those extremes. Although not listed, there's a very mild and fleeting, cumin note with nose pressed to skin which adds a delightfully unexpected oriental twist 🤓 and I'm very happy to notice this (but it's not apparent in the air at all and it's probably just my olive skin so don't worry). Natural ingredients so doesn't offend the nose, nor is it too cloying. Good quality atomiser sprays a soft fine mist. I get average projection and a few hours of longevity which is to be expected from an EDP but it's ABSOLUTELY perfect for indoor settings or close encounters. Also, for the affordable price that Carner Barcelona offers, and at an even lower price on sale or at discounters, this is a lovely underrated gem. Spray generously without fear!!! It's my perfect summer amber and comes to life in Australian heat much like Grand Soir. Cold temps definitely stifle out both these ambers. For colder weather, Ambra Aurea, Ambre Fetiche and to a lesser extent Ambre Loup is ideal. I consider Ambar Del Sur perfect for warmer weather. A befitting name titled 'Southern Amber' and a good offering from the Spanish house of Carner Barcelona. 4 out of 5 stars ****

Ambar del Sur is a beautiful light & soft unisex warm scent with an oriental vibe suitable for fall, spring an summer, day and night. The only minus is its projection which is soft. The longevity is moderate. The opening has some similarities with Frapin 1270 but thedry down is different. Dominant notes are beautiful and safe patchouli which is slightly earthy, sub-sweet myrrh, well balanced dry and slightly dusty amber, mild vanilla without exessive swetness. The labdanum, the tonka beans AND the bergamot feel like a base, this combo is constantly at the background. There's also a very faint floral note which looks like jasmin which dies quickly. Overall is a very well blended and balanced familiar scent for me. It's not a common smell but it's not either new if you are into oriental and arabic scents. Beautiful! Edit At the late dry down in looks like again close to Frapin 1270. When it's a skin scent feels close to Ideal Parfum and just before it dies smells similar to Lalique Or Intemporel.

For the first hour or so, this is a a spicy amber scent that almost reminds me of a salty broth seasoned with dry herbs. There's something a little bit weird about it... Something that's almost a bit sour and funky. But then before the end of the first hour it develops into a warm, smooth, sweet, dry, slightly vanillic amber. So then from the one-hour-mark and a while forward it's a really nice amber. This mid and drydown is lovely while it lasts, but unfortunately it doesn't last very long... After a couple more hours, its a very subtle skin scent. All things considered, maybe this isn't quite worth the price, but it's still overall one of the more pleasant amber scents that I have tried - during the drydown. If only the opening was a bit more pleasant, and the drydown projected and lasted a bit better, then this would be really great.

By far the nicest Carner Barcelona scent I have sampled so far, a deep and dry amber fragrance based around myrrh, patchouli, and the typical amber constituents. It goes for a similar kitchen herb clashing against sweet doughy amber nuances like the classic Ambre Sultan, but substitutes the intense oregano note of Ambre Sultan with a more nondescript savory saltiness, which I assume comes from the myrrh or maybe from the camphorous facets of patchouli. There are also loads of spicy facets, mostly cinnamon and clove going at times almost into a cola like direction. Ultimately it is nothing groundbreaking or unique, chances are you already have something similar in your collection, but I do recommend sampling if you are a fan of the genre.

Very classy amber indeed with a beautifully dry, papery opening and some unusually spicy, dusty nuance. Not huge, and with a lovely soft, smooth texture to it. However, for me personally, just a little too sweet and vanilla-heavy overall, which edges it dangerously close to Amber Headache territory. Projection's confident, on me longevity was just OK. I'm amber-ambivalent (those headaches!) but liked this plenty, yet it didn't entirely win my trust. For amber to work for me this would have to go even drier and much spicier, but for those with less ambivalence, this should definitely be tried to see if it works for you. Reminded me a little of a more confident, more rounded, much lusher version of Merchant of Venice Ottoman Amber.

Ambar Del Sur opens with a pinch of zest, yet vanilla rises almost immediately. On my skin, the vanilla & tonka combination dominates, gradually smoothed out by gentle warmth and soothing woods & musk. The woods grow resinous as the scent dries, but never becomes full incense. This adds depth to the vanillic, amber-like main presentation - which remains relatively linear. Performance is decent. This is a scent which forms a small but dense bubble. It hovers close for several hours. Overall, Ambar Del Sur is likeable, smooth and easy to wear. It is like the chicken soup of perfumes - one to reach for when comfort is needed. Worth sampling, especially for amber and vanilla fans.

A really nice amber. Very rich and creamy but ultimately too linear. I was really looking forward to some more powder. It does not smell cheap or not thought out but the lack of development through the stages leaves you wanting more and this means to me something that will in the long run be forgotten. A scent best enjoyed for yourself. A quiet night at home with some good wine.

Very similar to Elixir des Merveilles, only less woody. But the same warm, moderately sweet, unisex, fluffy type of amber. I can see the comparisons with Grand Soir or Ambre Sultan, they are also spot on, but Ambar del Sur is much easier on the nose than Ambre Sultan, it has a kinder spirit, nothing complex and obnoxious going on. I like this a lot.

Warm and creamy type of amber without being too sweet and less dose of vanilla and tonka. The labdanum is more prominent making it more herbal oriental rather than sweet mid-eastern style, while myrrh creates a resinous incense-y nuance. Such a round and well blended fragrance in a beautiful wooden cap bottle. This Spanish brand is on point.

Reminds me of Dior's Homme Intense, just a bit darker, smokier version. On my female and rather cold skin the perfume stays for a rather long time, becomes more and more sweeter as it develops. Tested on a hot summer day, will continue testing in colder seasons.

I get a very nice traditional amber accord, myrrh and quite a bit of patchouli. Performance is moderate. Dry down is a pleasant If not memorable vanilla/Tonka experience. It’s a solid 4/5 for me.

To me, this is a less sweet more airy/wearable version of ambre sultan, i don’t think you need both in your collection. Longevity and projection is average not as good as ambre sultan.

Ambar del Sur is quite a gooey-delicious leaning amber. It opens with bergamot and it quickly turns very resinous, dry/incense-like and the myrrh is accompanied by the vanilla and amber. It's quite powdery. In a more dusty-powdery way. This fragrance starts to get sweeter the longer this sits on the skin. The vanilla changes from smokey to sweet, which adds complexity. I love this fragrance and it reminds me of Megalium.

I like the slightly salty opening but I lose interest once the biscuity vanilla kicks-in. Ultimately, the dry-down smells like fake tan. I’ve got it on next to Jovoy’s ‘Ambre Premier’ and there is a similarity - both are very subtle amber skin-scents.

Not my kind of amber. I think Carner isn't for me — this is the third one I've sampled, and they all have this signature ... ruggedness? pungency? about them that doesn't really suit my vibe.

Why do you have to use Myrrh? Just why? Tell me please? Why? The opening is wonderful. Upon drydown after 1 hour, I can detect Myrrh. I ran away.

Carner Barcelona's Ambar Del Sur is a beautiful, easy to wear amber fragrance. I've been on a bit of an amber kick lately, so it was of no surprise that Ambar Del Sur popped up on my radar. Ambar Del Sur is an uncomplicated, dry amber with a hint of citrusy bergamot. It is perfectly unisex and easily versatile, great for all seasons. It's a sweet fragrance, but not unnaturally so. Additional notes of labdanum, tonka bean, myrrh and vanilla combine to create a delicious, comforting oriental on the skin. I find Ambar Del Sur to be similar to Penhaligon's Kensington Amber, another amber love of mine. They're not as heavy nor as syrupy as some amber-dominant fragrances can be. Ambar Del Sur goes on soft and sparkles with its citrus opening. I wore Carner Barcelona's Ambar Del Sur on a somewhat cold, rainy evening as I headed out to a Burlesque show. This sensual, amber delight suited my evening perfectly. The projection was enough to scent my skin and coat without offending those sitting close to me in the darkened theatre. I relish the fact that Carner Barcelona is one of the less expensive niche brands on the market. It makes obtaining a bottle of one of their beautiful fragrances even easier and I have no doubt that Ambar Del Sur will continue to be on my radar for many years to come, (that is until I purchase a bottle).

A peppery amber with a saffron essence. It reminds me of Surge Lutens Ambre Sultan but more restrained and delicate. It is one of my favorite scents from Carner Barcelona- so lovely, cozy, and reminds me of being on an exotic spice voyage in times gone by. However, this house has no longevity on my skin and the silage is non-existent. PERFUME HEACHACHES???? This might be your holy grail! Carner Barcelona is an excellent brand for people who enjoy niche perfumes and scents that are beyond the normal assortment of scents. They have a creative edge while still being wearable AND is especially good for those who tend to get headaches from other perfumes. These perfumes are not strong but still are excellent and high quality. As for me and my scent devouring skin I will have to stick to more beast-modes but I definitely appreciate the CB scents, I just need them amped up. I used lotion and oil before spraying 10 sprays of Ambar del Sur and it stayed longer than previous attempts with a light skin scent for about 7 hours (without lotion in previous wear it was far far less so lotion + oil helps)

This is a gorgeous amber scent. Myrrh and labdanum combine here to create a rich and warm amber accord which is just right in my opinion, not overwhelming and not weak. There is also vanilla which smooths and softens the scent beautifully. The sandalwood, patchouli and jasmine are all very much in the background for me and the bergamot was not noticeable on my skin at all. I wore this on one arm and MFK Grand Soir on the other for a comparison. They are really similar, Ambar del Sur however is slightly darker/richer and slightly more complex. Maybe the added richness comes from the use of myrrh whereas GS uses benzoin and a bit more vanilla. This is one of my favourite amber scents. Perfect for a warming feeling on a chilly fall or winter’s day or night. It’s sensual, addictive and highly recommend...

I love this one! The kind of fragrance I catch myself awkwardly sniffing my arms all day long. It’s as if Grand Soir (one of my favorites!) and Amber Sultan (love!) had a love child and lightly nursed it with a bottle of slightly sweetened nectar made with just a hint of Myrrh, Tonka, and Patchouli. Slightly sweeter (but not candy or sticky sweet) than GS and AS and not aromatic like AS - this baby is perfect and a hidden gem. I haven’t tried it in the summer but because it’s dry and not sticky sweet, I’m thinking it would be great on a summer night . Loving it in the fall/winter - I tend to overspray anyway and this lasts on me all day. So pretty! Perfectly unisex - both genders can totally pull this off.

This is a wonderfull rich amber, the Base is so Nice w The balance between tonka and vanilla, sandalwood and myrrh makes Its so rich and sparkly, this is a hidden gem, long lasting and a very Nice sweet modern dna sillage, i cant get tierd off this smell, Its like a twist on the old classic dry oriental amber w a modern tonka vanilla vibe. This is The reason i love Parfumes... Finding gems like this, Its so well done and not that talked about, in the drydown Its almost nishane Ani w less cesty lemon, tbh i love this more

Initially this reminded me of Ani by Nishane, which is my signature scent. However, this lacks the spice of Ani, but has a more singular resinous amber accord, beginning as powdery and evolving with a rich patchouli note and a fresher, more relaxed vanilla. This scent may lean a tad masculine on my skin, but I have no problem with this. It's a deep, thick gooey amber, with an ethereal touch. I really like this scent!

This is okay. Maybe I would've liked this better if I tried it in the winter. This feels like a Christmas replication scent. I get the oriental kind of amber green woody smell and sweet notes in juxtapose with it. Staying power is good, and again it's nice but sample before you buy because I don't know how many times I would want to wear this and I wasn't all that impressed with this.

Beautiful amber, nicely done. Smooth, creamy and warm. Skankiness is kept to a minimum and thankfully no herbal or medicinal nuances. Dark woods and sparkly cream. Quite related to the pencil shavings amber accord found in Bon Parfumerie's 302. Worth comparing the two side-by-side. I'm also impressed with the performance, it's lasting me a few hours.

This is a really beautiful scent. It’s very classy, warm and dry without being powdery. Like the sun, wind and sand already did their job on my skin before using it. Im getting summer sunset vibes with this one and it makes me happy. Cant wait to use it during summer! Projection is weak to moderate but it lasts a full day or night on my skin.

Amber lovers give this a try. I am not into this kind of fragrances, but this has an amazing quality and style. If I have to compare it to something very popular nowadays just to give you what's the idea behind, I probably would say Francis Kurkdjian's Grand Soir.

Meh. The notes sounded great and sniffing the sample vial got me hopeful but this has the same cheap and synthetic smelling sweet aromachemical base that ruined Palo Santo for me as well. I adore Cuirs but everything else by this brand has let me down so far.

I get a nice amber, a bit powdery, with a hit of tartness that keeps it from being fusty. Pleasant but reminds me of other things I’ve tried. Not a huge love, but it’s really nice.

Sweet, woody, vanillic amber. CB's interpretation of ambergris. A pleasure to wear. Love the wood cap, square flacon. ✨

Reminds me of a less sweet Jerobaum Ambra. Get the Jerobaum instead.
