Amethyst Haze

First wearing of Carolina Herrera Amethyst Haze, part of the Confidential collection, a quite striking blend led by coffee and lavender, sweet and sharp, but also rich and deep, with supporting notes of bourbon vanilla, cardamom, pink pepper, and patchouli. It’s a little spicy, so really a spicy/sharp combo as it’s not particularly powdery or screechy but isn’t heavy with actual spices, either. I love the composition, though, as it’s very smooth and the more provocative notes seemed wrapped up in velvet, making for an easy wear. Despite the signature notes being coffee and lavender, it’s not quite as brilliant as Bond No. 9 New Haarlem but Amethyst Haze is probably better suited for non-gourmand fans, anyway, as it has more of a blended feel, less the syrupy brunch fest (albeit with lavender) that New Haarlem is. Amethyst Haze is offered in a 100ml bottle size at EDP concentration, and is sold online via Harrods for $241 but there does not seem to be a link on the actual CH product page to purchase it, so perhaps it’s a Harrods exclusive. Overall, I’m very impressed with this and really dig it as a composition. I doubt I need 100ml (since I have New Haarlem) so I wish it were available in a smaller size, and in the US, at that, but hands down, it’s a superb offering. 8 out of 10

Amethyst Haze is truly one of those unforgettable perfumes that lingers in your mind after sampling. The best Lavender-Vanilla combination I’ve ever tried, hands down! It’s been several months since I’ve owned this and it’s still my favourite lavender-vanilla perfume, giving my beloved Mon Guerlain Intense a run for its money. It opens with a vibrant blast of smooth lavender and cardamom, gradually softened by a fluffy vanilla and soft cashmere. I absolutely adore the coffee note here, it complements the other notes without overpowering them, as it should be. The lavender and vanilla beautifully smooth out the cardamom and coffee, evoking the sweet, soothing essence of a lavender latte. While similar to Coffee Break, this perfume has a greater wow factor, sophistication, and smoothness, with a subtle spicy kick from the cardamom which elevates this perfume to another level. There’s nothing not to love about Amethyst Haze. And the stunning bottle? The cherry on top! It’s truly incredible.

Beautiful. One spray to the elbow crook and I kept smelling it all day. Very comforting. Autumn has just started and it’s still very warm so I look forward to wearing more of my decant as it cools down. I kept wondering what it reminded me of. And it gives a strong scent memory of safety and being loved. Then this morning while I lay in bed waking (Sunday so no rush) and listening to the birds... vintage Old Spice (made over and modernised to my nose) but there it was. That soapy goodness, lavendar and vanilla touched spicy sweetness - vintage (1970s) Old Spice. And Dad...all the hugs, dancing on his toes, faux shaving my face (after he smoothly shaved his lovable mug) and applying a few drops on my neck. Dad ❤️ Obviously my Dad wouldn’t have worn this (or maybe he might have?) but it’s the first time a scent has granted me a Dad hug. I lost him as a kid so this is wonderous (and a little emotional). The fragrance itself is beautiful but for me, priceless.

Nah this one is so good in my opinion! It really caught me off hand when i used it on myself! It gave me this gorgeous creamy vanilla coffee scent, its a little spicy and a little bit herbal with the lavender, but nothing crispy at all so its safe if you are doubtin the lavander, I am in doubt which lavender i like more, if its either libre or this??? Maybe when i finish my decant ill let you know! When this settles and dries down you get the patchouli which in my opinion is what gives it the unisex pass, bc for me this was more femenine on the openin but i could imagine some men pulling this off for that note. The perfomance is good you dont need to bathe in this, id say to spray a few minutes before going out, the projection is nice i could smell myself and all! The only con is that is a little bit pricey and i dont see it on many places online so im sure its gonna be a struggle to get this one when i get the financial opportinity to do so!

To me this smells right off the bat of the pink pepper with the cardamom, and in the background the sweetness of the bourbon vanilla, then the vanilla, coffee, intertwined with the lavender and the chocolaty side of patchouli stand out, but all the time, there is spice that never goes away. Eventually all the notes seem to blend seamlessly n equal proportions to me and sit in a non-linear way, which renders it complex or deep in design yet simple in nature if that makes any sense. This is my 2nd from the collection to arrive (I have Nightfall Patchouli on the way), that I bought in the last fortnight and I am going to be grabbing either Sandal Ruby next or Mystery Tobacco., This collection is absolutely divine, and under the radar and I hope it stays that way, its gorgeous.

It was a blind buy.. First sniff, I wasn't impressed I thought 'oh... Generic vanilla, bit of aromatic bit patchouli - thats it' I revisit after sometime, I sprayed on the back of my hand... It grew on me... Oh my god, why is this smellimg velvety, smooth lavender, vanilic and almost has a tad bit of leathery facet... Its like that velvety lavender in intio rehab, but with more vanilla and a bit with green leathery touch.. I LOVE IT!!! I don't smell the coffee tbh, well at least the coffee I am familiar with... There is a bit of bitterness, I am not sure where it comes from.. Worth it to try

I understand the similarities to Coffee Break, however, AH is a lot more cardamom and lavender heavy. It’s as if Intoxicated and Coffee Break were mixed together, this is what it would smell like. The scent opens as a cardamom powerhouse, leaning into the lavender. The coffee and vanilla aspect are very very late to the party. They show up in the dry down. It turns into a lavender latte dream. And later a floral vanilla/Cardamom/iris bomb. This is such a calming, beautiful and cozy scent. It is bringing me great peace in this turmoil of my life

This is sooo good. The vanilla is really rich in the dry down, and I cannot detect patchouli at all. the opening reminds me of La Nuit de L’homme, and the dry down reminds me of Intense Cafe. Those are two of my favorites and this one could replace them both. It’s just so expensive. I think it’s worth it, and I hope I can add it to my collection one day. Everybody who smells this will like it, I cant imagine anyone being offended by this. I rated this as suitable for all seasons day and night. But maybe be careful on the hottest summer days.

This is like a comforting cashmere blanket perfumed with sweet (sometimes bitter) coffee and spiced up with some beautiful cardamom. I also get the lavender and vanilla. I find that the notes are well balanced and create a beautiful, comforting aura. It lasts a whole day on my clothes and smells sooo good when radiating in the winter cold. Though, I am not as fond of it on my skin because the coffee can come off bitter/metallic at times. But overall it’s a lovely finding ! I would just spray my clothes and still enjoy this beauty

Es un perfume señorial, poderoso y fuerte. Huele a millonario. De esas oficinas de negocios con cuero, madera en la pared, como si alguien fumó un habano fragantico y quedó el olor ahumado pero dulzón en una habitación de luz tenue iluminada por veladores. La lavanda la percibo coronando, el patchoulí lo sigue muy cerca casi de la mano y luego aunque no posea, siento un iris leve por lo dulce y lila, algo que termina pareciendo a cuero y para finalizar un ambarado, resinoso y maderoso. Me encanta.

Purchased a full bottle at an airport a few weeks ago. It's beautiful and unique; I would not have believed the lavender and coffee notes could work / nor be something I would want to wear, but it is incredibly alluring and sexy. That being said.. I'm now seeing that this becomes a skin scent within 1-2 hours and if I want to have any real trace of the fragrance, I need to overspray onto my skin and clothes. So yes, LOVE the scent but for the quality/experience, it is very overpriced.. RRP £235!

This is a review of a skin test. This perfume lasted for hours, a whole day on my skin without being overpowering. It's very feminine and sexy however, it's not very unique. Initially, it reminded me of Black Opium if it had sweet lavender. I now think it actually reminds me strongly of R.E.M but perhaps a little sexier. Ultimately it's a great perfume but, very expensive considering there are many cheaper scents that have a similar vibe. I'd be very happy if someone gifted it to me though.

Gaaaah this is a stunner, lovelovelove! brumbarche’s take is spot on... so read that... the feeling for me was exactly the same: cozy winter mornings, staying in on Sundays, just so that I can bathe in it, while drinking my morning capuccino near a vase with a lavender bouquet, wrapped in my cashmere sweater, watching the fluffy snow falling outside... Captivating scent. This beautiful lavender vanilla is sumptuous, impeccably blended, and addictive. The cardamom, coffee, cashmere wood, and patchouli add warmth and complexity to the normally austere note of lavender, which is pleasantly dry and sun-drenched in this composition. This is a summer-in-the-French-countryside vibe and has an ease and an elegance about it. Definitely a lifetime love for me.

Amethyst Haze is a beauty. I’m surprised I love this one since I usually don’t care for strong lavender notes. But it really works here and it’s blended remarkably. It’s a sprinkle of coffee and spices with a decadent, yet earthy vanilla base. Makes me think of a gothic forest fairy. I love it and find it perfectly unisex.

Cosy fall vibes for sure! I love this so much, I got a backup bottle. Opens with a smooth and spicy lavender, then it settles into this cosy, cashmeran vanilla with hints of coffee. Think cashmere cardigans or shawls, cup of matcha latte with dried lavender for effect, walking around the streets of Florence ❤️

This is really nice, the lavender disappears pretty quickly on my skin and I’m left with a yummy latte or some kind of sweet coffee drink. It lasts around 8hrs on my skin and more than 12 on clothes. I don’t feel like it projects maybe more of an intimate date type of fragrance

Magnificent blend of coffe-vanilla-lavender. Such classic combo, but executed with extra smoothness. Not afraid to use the word masterpiece, when describing it. Because it truly is. Addictive, posh, exceptionally blended, wears great at any season.

Oh boy, this one is so good, so addictive, lavender, cardamom, and a little bit coffee vibe, very unisex, longevity is around 6 hrs, with moderate projection Amethyst Haze is 9.5/10

Amazing lavender perfume. Especially for men. So gentle and powerful. Greatly blended. Similar to one of my favourite - JPG Le Male Le Parfum but without the iris note.

Very rare an unique smell, cardamom and lavender dominate in this perfume, very classy and truly a niche.. bought it without hesitation!

This is not a proper review (a result of extensive wear), but since there wasn't one when I came to check, I felt that I should share the little bit I have: I tried this last night on skin and on blotter in climate controlled environment and outside in the heat (34C) after my nose had already been bombarded by all sorts of sharper and stronger perfumes. But ... even after the sampling marathon I've been through and the softness of this perfume, I could still feel it being a cloud of soft fluffy powdery cashmere lavender pillow with just a hint of canned/bottled "cappuccino" beverage to keep it slightly earthy and shave off any aromatic edges that might peek through. It's the softest scent ever, but it lasted on my wrist in the heat for a good hour or so (mind it I sprayed just a little). It is so unintrusive and quiet, and yet detectable and comforting, with a tiny bit of sensuality. Some could call it a "wife" perfume if they view Mon Guerlain this way - and I'm not saying with this reference they are the same or that I even agree with the "wife" concept (then it's just as much a "husband-to-be meets the future in-laws" perfume lol). The only reference that comes to mind at this point is the powdery drydown of Alaia Blanche. But Amethyst is so much smoother and blended and fluffier and refined, and has this lavender-coffee combo in there to make it interesting. It clearly wasn't suitable for the hot summer evening -- too powdery somehow, but my oh my ... only if I could live in it through the cozy winter mornings, I'd stay in on Sundays, just so that I can bathe in it, while drinking my morning capuccino by a vase with lavender bouquet, wrapped in my cashmere sweater, looking at the fluffy snow outside and feeling simply content ... Until then, or maybe until I obtain a bottle of this, I can't offer a proper review. I can Break down the notes like this: The cardamom is like in Bond 9 China Town, the lavender is smooth like the one in Mon Guerlain (I was thinking also Lavandes Trianon, but the vanilla is taking over in this one) , the coffee note is like the one in Coffee Break in Replica MM, the fluffy powdery vanilla is like Alaia Blanche, the patchouli is white soft and powdery like in Bvlgari Splendida Patchouli, pepper and cashmere wood (the cashmere feels like Ajmal Cashmere Musk) are for velvet density and better cohesion and to help it tone down all the other notes and to make it suitable for men to wear (it's absolutely ok for a man to rock this, especially with this dash of barely detectable sweet incense-suede in the base and in the drydown). It's suitable for a blind buy if you don't mind safe scents. If you are looking to get your senses taken by it, it might, but only after a serious olfactory-fasting. I hope I didn't hype it too much and you test before you buy. After all my experience is brief, bias and a bit distorted by parallel experiences and circumstances. So please take all this with a grain of salt and should you have a more extensive experience with Amethyst Haze (I just looked at the name and realized how suitable it is!), please share what other perfumes it’s most similar to in its best features - CH price tags are steep...

Edit: I’ve pasted the original below. After finding the Confidential Series finally accessible in Australia I’m keen to try another purchase as this decant, my decant of Saffron Lazuli and my full bottle of Mystery Tobacco completely blew me away. After reading up on these alternatives I’ve read the reviews on this one and sprayed it on before bed. Herein I’m correcting myself. I now register the subtle coffee and piquant lavender more, being ultra smooth with the cashmeran coming through in the back ground. I still get a strong vanillic vibe though I no longer see this as vanilla forward but infact with the cashmeran it comes across as slightly caramel like. It still reminds me of BR540 distantly - I now prefer it to BR540 Extrait as the lavender is uhhh somehow fleshy and camphorous which I like. It now also reminds me vaguely of Bond No.9 Harrods special. Original: Gorgeous scent. Note table misleads though technically correct. I love this Carolina Herrera series especially the Mystery Tobacco which is one of the best Tobacco scent releases in the last 10 years. I bought a decant sample after mulling a blind bottle buy. It arrived with Xerjoff Red Hoba. At first I though the labels were mixed up. I long ago finished my Red Hoba and swore I or someone else made a mistake. Turns out nothing was wrong. They are extremely similar. What a ridiculous coincidence!!! I was certainly not expecting the smell I got. So, I’ve read all the reviews and I’m surprised at some of the perceived takes on it. Nose to skin I can pull apart the note table. In reality this is really a vanilla forward scent - not lavender. The lavender is super smoothly blended and gives it a slightly ‘purple’ body, the cardamom blowing it out further in a very smooth blend also thanks to the cashmere. The coffee also darkening it a bit - some suggesting a cardamom coffee are reasonable though a very sweet one. The pepper works in the beginning giving it a freshness and piquant start. The long drydown softens and it comes across as virtually a copy of Red Hoba - slightly greener as opposed to the caramel sweetness of RH. Incidentally I realised that RH is also not so far off BR540 EDP. So, I can’t diss this - it’s another above average perfume from CH. I just assumed the name, notes and marketing would give me another awesome Lavender scent but to me it just is not - I also just received Hermetica Lavincense so I guess I’m sorted for now...

On a test strip, I got a blast of powdery floral: lavender, vanilla, cashmeran. My thoughts were immediately, wow, this is pretty feminine. When I actually looked up what the notes were I was surprised that the lavender was the only floral in the composition. On skin, however, it's kind of a different story. I'm getting lavender, cardamom and coffee mostly, it's wearing much more unisex. It's imparting a nice, fresh out of the shower feeling. Projection is moderate to light - noticeable from a distance of 12-18 inches. I expect it to last 6-8 hours before becoming a total skin scent. Not in my CH Confidential top 5, I much prefer Mystery Tobacco, Amber Desire, Bronze Tonka, Gold Myrrh Absolute, Platinum Leather. But it's still very nice. Is it worth $300? Uh, probably not. But I'm not sorry I picked it up. 6.5/10

This is really lovely! The coffee, cashmere and vanilla give this a reliable warm, rich, sweet base. The cardamom adds warm sparkly spice while the lavender adds a dry aromatic spice. This smells like someone turned down the volume of MFK's Grand Soir from 10 to 5 and poured in the smooth creamy coffee from CH Good Girl. I wish the projection from this were as loud as the price.

I do really enjoy this however i sometimes feel the cashmaran and other aroma chemicals are a little too scratchy and, ill just say it...I would prefer the less expensive coffee break to amythest haze. Its more creamy, lactonic, cozy and satisfying to me. Amythest haze smells good but not quite +300$ good.

Surprisingly powdery, but well blended. I kind of dig it. Something is coming off as creamy iris; it’s starting to remind me of some of the Givenchy Gentlemen or Dior Homme iterations.

A very mysterious scent. Starts out as very masculine but dries down to a very powdery feminine scent. I like it but not enough to pay the price point.

Heavy vanilla dose with different spices I think the lavender ruins the scent for me I do enjoy wearing it but wasn’t something that deserves buying a full bottle Iam not sure about this line CH always had above average frags but right now the confidential line is a pass for me Projection was big and longevity was great

cardamom mixed with pepper clearly smelled it in the opening. but i don't like it, fresh cardamom is a bit spicy and watery, it doesn't taste sweet, clearly different from ysl la nuit de lhomme. towards mid and drydown it smells pretty good. however this does not last long on my skin. i decided not to buy it.

This smells pretty good on clothes but on my skin, it smells.....disjointed(?) The lavender just doesn't mix nicely with the other notes which breaks my heart because I really thought this was going to be a hit. Definitely try a sample it if you're curious.

Is every fragrance in this line really heavy on the molecular aroma chemicals? I own Iris Empire and a decant of Amethyst Haze and they're both really scratchy to my nose and not deep at all. These are just not to my taste.

Made the mistake of blindly buying this one based on the stellar reviews and the fact that Lee and Nyberg are credited as the perfumers. Well, of course I regret it. I like all the listed notes by themselves, and somebody said it had a similar vibe to La Nuit de L’Homme by YSL, which I like. But the resemblance is zero. To me, this is in line with the cheap male public restroom urinal cake smell also found in Zara’s Magestic Green. It may be the mix of cardamom and vanilla. Some say it is similar to Naxos, and I dislike that one as well.

I love this line but not this one. Old spice, aqua velva. So synthetic and cheap smelling. Extremely masculine. I’m a unisex girl but not this one. Very sharp. Returned it.

Very dense spices (cardamom + pink pepper) in the beginning. In fact, the spiciness will last all the way throughout the scent's entire life. Not long afterwards, lavender kicks in and gives a mentholated vibe and keeps the spices from becoming too heavy, making it more airy. Together with lavender, the coffee note also joins the party, blending all of those notes making them a rich spicy coffee, with an airiness of lavender. The role of spices is quite significant in order to give a sharp/piercing effect to the otherwise dull coffee. Both spices and coffee notes are dense and heavy, but then the lavender kind of providing an airiness to the scent aroma. Enter the mid to drydown, one might think that maybe all of that dramatic spicy opening was just a repertoire for a creamy vanilla to enter the main stage and becomes the saviour of the day, or maybe not? The spicy coffee becomes more mellow, tamed down by creamy and a bit powdery vanilla, but not that much. The cashmere peek through, enveloping the overall scent with musky and woodiness vibe, while clean patchouli (not chocolatey) ties down the lavender-vanilla-spicy-coffee combo from becoming too gourmandish. It is creamy gourmandish, but not as gourmand as a sweet gourmand scent per se? The beginning till the mid of the scent life definitely masculine, it only becomes a unisex scent when the drydown phase kicked in, with vanilla becomes more prominent. The quality of ingredients is stellar. You can tell even from the initial blast that this scent is of niche high-end quality. The blend is smooth as silk. It is not groundbreaking for sure. It is like the fusion of By Kilian Intoxicated and MMM Coffee Break, producing a "more wearable" and "longer lasting" Lavender-Vanilla-Spicy-Coffee. One might find the scent is a bit uninspiring and not challenging of course, but the scent itself is composed so that it shall not challenge, rather to become a comforter.

I’ve been wanting a bottle of this for many months! I just didn’t want to fork over the high shipping to get it to the states. I thought it would end up on discount sites that many from this line do but 7 months later, no sign of this one and I couldn’t take it anymore so I bought it, lol! I don’t regret it one bit. I’ve tried a lot from the line but this is my first full bottle as it’s the only one so far that really called my name. It’s aromatic from that lavender and I LOVE lavender. I did enjoy coffee break from MM but the longevity on it is so weak, blink and you miss it. This blows that fragrance out the water in terms of longevity and it smells waaaay better! They are not dupes, they are different fragrances with some similarities and this one is the clear winner even though it’s 3x the price. Caramom and coffee also play a big role in this fragrance, so you have to really enjoy cardamom to love this. It is stunning. Great in cold weather, haven’t tested it in warmer weather yet but I will soon. It’s a comforting, sexy, aromatic and spicy scent. I bought mine from Harrods.

This is a very dark and spicy perfume, and I get a oud note, probably a combination of woods and spices. The cardamom and coffee are quite pronounced so I get the similarity to Intoxicated. However the lavender is disappointingly weak- especially considering the name Amethyst Haze. To me there is not much hazy or amethyst-like about it. I decided to layer it with Lavendula which made it much more like what I wanted. Then the lavender/coffee cravings was satisfied in a way that it is not by Coffee Break, beautiful as that perfume is. Without the addition of extra lavender, this perfume leans masculine to me but with the Lavendula, it became more balanced. Longevity is excellent and sillage is quite big.

This is nice, but not quite what I was expecting based on all of the amazing reviews. Amethyst Haze, IMO, is most similar to Jo Malone's Tonka & Myrr perfume, much more-so, than being similar to Replica's Coffee Break. It is a dark, aromatic, and a bit spicy of a fragrance. Not as sweet as I anticipated, and more aromatic than I imagined. This is definitely à cold weather scent too! I'm not sure that I will hold onto this one...Though overall, Amethyst Haze is a very high quality, well developed, smooth and dimensional perfume. I just don't think it belongs in my collection, unfortunately.

Fancy spiced lavender vanilla scent. I like this a lot better than other lavender vanilla perfumes like Libre. It is sweet but the patchouli and suede notes provide a good balance, the coffee note is very shy. I think is is a nice, pleasant scent but nothing really extraordinary. It's overpriced, and I am happy with just a sample. I don't intend to buy a full bottle, it is not worth the price they are asking for. I already have a few lavender vanilla scents that satisfy that craving.

This so sexy and I'm not even a fan of coffee nor do I drink coffee. The drydown reminds me of the scent of the Vaseline cocoa butter tub. I already own 3 FB from the Confidential line. I cant afford any more 😭. Think the DNA from all the perfumes from the Confidential line must really work with my skin. Carolina Herrera needs to stop giving free samples with her perfumes or I'm gonna end up money poor but perfume rich.

I can’t believe there is no orris listed in the pyramid. Its the one note that jumps at me when i spray and all the way through thé drydown. Among with lavender This is a dry, distant but at the same time comforting scent . A bit masculine leaning but still weareable for women as the vanilla peaks from time to time Perfect for autumn and rainy days

REALLY nice unisex (slightly masculine leaning IMO) fragrance. This CH Confidential line really doesn't disappoint. To me, this smells like a more mass appealing & wearable take on Kilian's Intoxicated. You still get that "cardamom coffee" vibe but it's much less intense. The lavender & vanilla really smooth it out. For me, 9/10.

Pleasant, it’s nice, however it has that synthetic sort of musk or ambroxan vibe in there, that makes it last 20 hours on your skin, some people might want that, I guess it makes it worth the money, however it’s kind of an annoying trait to a fragrance these days, it’s just not an elegant vibe. I can see it being popular though.

I had such high hopes for this based on the notes. I love lavander and have several lavander perfumes. This, however is not even a lavander perfume, the lavander note disappears in 2 minutes and you are left with this plasticky, dollhead smell that is not pleasant with any stretch of the imagination. Instant scrubber.

The dry down is very reminiscent of NAXOS by Xerjoff to me. I get the same warm, cozy and comforting vibes from Amethyst Haze. Naxos is a bit more masculine, in my opinion. However, both are so delectable! Love the blend of vanilla, cardamom and lavender in this gem!

Cuddle up in your favorite cozy long white bathrobe in the morning with a hot cup of milky spicy lavender coffee and envelop yourself in this delicious purple fragrance. This fragrance is gorgeous, sophisticated and lasted 12 + hours...totally worth every penny.

A lavender and vanilla fragrance with a touch of coffee. This is perhaps one of the best male frag of the Confidential collection, but the drydown is just a slightly better version of Rochas Man, which costs six times less.

This is Margiela Coffee Break on steroids. Extremely balanced and refined, excellent fougere combining lavender and coffee. Perfectly unisex, office safe and possible signature fragrance. But you don't need both.
