Nightfall Patchouli

The Confidential line is a wonderful collection and is, as I've said a few times on here recently, underrated and a bit slept-on by the community. This is a shame in some ways, but also good for the likes of me because I have a few of them and I really enjoy them. Nightfall Patchouli is arguably my favourite, or certainly one of them. It isn't a huge, spicy statement maker in the way Stallion Leather, Sandal Ruby and Saffron Lazuli are, but is equally fine and equally lovely. The opening is labdanum and patchouli right from the off. It sets its stall out early, as befitting its name. It is quite a bright opening but darkens as it dries down which is where the name is derived from. The cinnamon and benzoin make things very tender against the iris and the ever-present patchouli. It is a fairly linear drydown which retains the same profile, but just gets darker and spicier as the florals and the rather short-lived bergamot accords die down. What you're left with is a sweet, rich and extremely attractive scent that takes about four hours to settle into the skin. It isnt a huge performer, but I actually don't mind that. The nice thing is that when it settles into the skin it does stay there for a long time. This quiet confidence screams date night fragrance to me. There is no bitterness to the patchouli and the accord is in its really alluring, quite regal style and not the medicinal, herby type we see sometimes. This scent typifies the term "unisex" and does not lean one way or another. Ive layered it in the past with Lord Of Misrule by Lush to add some more greeny texture to Nightfall Patchouli and it does work nicely, if you want it a bit fresher. You can layer it over Oud Wood by Tom Ford as well to darken things down a little if you need it. Honestly though I think it doesn't need it most of the time. I love how the patchouli sticks with the fragrance across the opening and drydown and into the skin scent phase but is never very powerful. This isn't a dominating powerhouse in the way others in this line are, but it is extremely attractive. As with so many things in modern perfumery, not everything is about power and performance and this is a wonderful example of that view. For me, wearability and profile are more important and that is why I love this fragrance. I don't agree with the idea of a signature scent but if I had one, this would be on a short list. It goes without saying that this would be a superlative office wearer but it does flourish in casual situations too in a way the others in this line do not always manage. I think Nightfall Patchouli is about as wearable as a high end fragrance gets. It is so unisex, so attractive, so rich and refined but also universal. Anyone can wear this, at any point, for any occasion and would always very much enjoy it. I'd even suggest the patchouli note here is subtle and sweet enough to appeal to those who do not like patchouli, whilst somehow managing to stay alluring for those that do. I am not sure Carolina Herrera set out to develop this fragrance as a universal crowd please par excellence, but that is what they have produced. I find myself wishing it was a bit stronger, but again, I think I can see why it isnt. Carrying a decant of this top up at lunchtime is not great hardship in my opinion. I just purchased this, my third from this amazing collection. I've not yet recieved it but thought I'd mention the discepency in the notes prior to a full review. CH's website stipulates: "Nightfall Patchouli is an intoxicating blend of patchouli with bergamot, cinnamon, rose and labdanum - an aromatic journey to the fantastic night-time universe of New York." Which sounds so much nicer than just the notes on here which state: "Patchouli, Cinnamon and Benzoin" UPDATE: This is the strongest one from the 3 I have from the line so far. It's a strong and intoxication cinnamon spicy, sweet Patchouli. It is very simple, but again like the others deep and mystical. it creates an aura and a sillage trail as such, which is glorious. I'd be very intrigued to find out if this layers with anything else, it smells like it hs it's own character and therefore would either not layer well, or would be a shame to dilute it's own aura. This bottle will last, I have Amethyst Haze (my favourite) and Amber Desire, which are as glorious as this in their own way, and I still want to at least grab Mysterious Tobacco. This line is a killer and very much under the radar. They are not extremely monolithic but do not develop much either, but carry themselves very well, this one is extremely intoxicating and I encourage you to at least give it a sniff. I got a decant of this and I'm almost mad at myself because it smells so good and it's so expensive. I dont know enough to explain but despite there being only three notes listed this unfolds as much more complex than many sweet-ish patchoulis, with something almost floral at the end. In some patch fragrances the spicy sharpness turns almost bug-spray like at the end for me (Lord of Misrule is one of these) which I don't actually hate, I kind of like the sharpness, but on this one the spice stays spice to the end of every sniff, probably from the cinnamon. It still has that patch OOMPH! but without turning antisceptic. I do wish it was a bit of a bigger fragrance--it's not quite a skin scent on me but it's definitely not a powerhouse. But it's one of those 'I can't stop smeiling my wrist' frags for me. For me it's got a lot of the spiciness I love in Black Orchid crossed with the grown-up, elegance I love in Gucci Oud. So basically key elements of two of my faves in one bottle. If anyone has a suggestion for subs to try PLEASE lmk because I won't have £200 for this for a long time.

I saw Australian you tube perfume reviewer Ami Loves Perfumes talk about these Carolina Herrera perfumes. No online retailer or store sells them but Ami mentioned one Ebay seller from UAE. I bought this Nightfall Patchouli perfume new in the box and received it in a week even though customs held it for a couple days. It arrived today! I tested it and love it! This perfume projects at least 6 feet leaving a beautiful scent trail. It is 90 degrees and after 7 hours it is still going strong leaving a trail! This smells expensive, spicy, and exotic. Clove and cinnamon are strong which I enjoy. Normally I hate patchouli but this is not skanky, dirty, or hippy smelling. I don’t notice any chocolate or citrus but it is slightly powdery with a deep earthy woods scent after 7 hours. I’m glad I blind bought this perfume and recommend it. Fall and winter I will wear this perfume a lot but not on hot weather over a hundred degrees it would be too much. No headache or asthma problem from this perfume. I love finding a winning scent!

Nightfall Patchouli was a blind buy for me. Being marketed for the Middle East I was expecting it to be a strong fragrance. On first spray I thought it reminded me of Portrait of a Lady. However, it ended up developing into its own uniqueness. After serious an liberal spraying on my skin and clothing I find it’s classy, very soft, and projection discreet. Not a heavy hitter at all. I'll be able to wear it day and night, all year round in the tropical climate I live in. To me the frag comes off like a tea note with detectable delicate, sweet patchouli. It's nice. I really like it and I'm glad I bought it.

My goodness this perfume is a beauty! I had the chance to buy this at a Duty-Free and didn't because of the cost and now I'm kicking myself. I can't get this out of my head, it was so gorgeous. I cannot give a breakdown of the scent other than my memory of a sophisticated, mysterious, spicy patchouli. There is no headshop or hippy to be found, rather a classy woman who travels the world and has an air of confidence, wealth, and wisdom about her. If given the chance again I will be buying a full bottle for sure.

Sweet seducing juice with low sillage at high cost. It appears as most elegant and rich fragrance which can transform some one to the world of abstraction. Although I am lover of some hard and bitter notes with undertone of some sweetness, but this trapped me in no time. Masterpiece like TV tom ford.... my Score: Scent: 9.5/10 Sillage:6.5/10 Longevity: 7/10

Enveloping, charismatic perfume. The Patchouli note predominates powerful, but at the same time elegant and mysterious. Cinnamon gives liveliness and charisma to the perfume, and benzoin a creamy touch. Beautiful perfume, an absolute must have in my collection 🖤 Sillage : 7./10 Longevity : 8.5/10 Scent : 8.5/10 Overall : 8.5/10

Another fantastic fragrance from the Confidential Collection. I picked both this and MT up from the boutique in Beverly Hills. A very comforting drydown with the blend of patchouli and benzoin. Perfect for the fall and winter. For me projection seems to sit in a closer bubble but it lasts for at least 8 hours on my skin.

Oh lord this is good. Sweet patchouli. I love LOVE this! I think it’s more feminine leaning but a man could wear it. Instantly, I thought of Radiant Mirage by Estée Lauder... that has a jasmine sambac note in it but to me, the patchouli is the same sweetness. This is greatness. Expensive, but great.

It’s the type of patchouli I like a lot: chocolaty, sweet, dark and beautiful))) It has a touch of earthiness but is softened with vanilla and warm spices: cinnamon and maybe nutmeg. It’s definitely less gourmand than Ambre Narguile I must say. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Oh my word! There are no words for me to use to explain this fragrance. I received this yesterday, sprayed it on my wrist it was instant love.

This one is the best of the collection! Powerful Patchouli note wrapped around with the sweetness of Benzoin. Love it!

Nightfall Patchouli was one of the fragrances that I was looking forward to the most from CH confidential line because it has been described as an apple pie scent where patchouli was NOT the star player (in spite of the name!), which really appealed to me because sometimes patchouli can go very wrong for me. Well! Let me tell you the patchouli is there, front and center, lasting the entire life of the fragrance on me. Fortunately, it's a good patchouli, not dirty, earthy or overpowering as it can sometimes be, but clean, light and slightly herbal. Does it smell like apple pie? To my nose, it does but where as other apple pie scents like Boucheron's Ambre d'Alexandrie or Kilian's Angels' Share smell warm and gooey, very pie like, Nightfall is different because likeness to pie is lighter. The patchouli makes it unique along with a hint of rose note that peeps through here and there. To be completely transparent though these differences are only evident when you compare them side by side so when I wear Nightfall what I get is lighter apple pie with the whisper of a rose, lightly spiced with cinnamon and with a strong patchouli note running through it. It is lovely and certainly a different take but not unique to my collection of fragrances and not my favorite from this type of scent family. Nevertheless, it is a scent profile I enjoy immensely and I am happy to own it. Performance is very good as with most of the fragrances from this line. If you are a lover of patchouli and apple pie scents then this one is a winner!

This is basically an expensive reinterpretation of Hermes Hermessence Ambre Narguile the original fragrance with this scent profile. Ambre Narguile was then reinterpreted by L'Erbolario and released as Dolcelisir Which was then reinterpreted by Brecourt and released as Farah... Which was then reinterpreted by One of Those and released as Helium H2O... Which was then reinterpreted by PDM and released as Oajan... Which was then reinterpreted by Daniel Josier and released as Ambre Tabac... Which was then reinterpreted by Kilian and released as Angels Share... By now I'm sure you get the picture. :) There is nothing new here. The "This perfume reminds me of..." tells no lies in this case. If you want to smell like this then take your pick from any of the fragrances listed above - they are all lovely. Some of them may be a wee bit sweeter, or less, but they all smell pretty much the same, and you will pretty much smell the same as everyone else in the world wearing any of them. Oh... For people who don't like oud, there's no oud in this fragrance or indeed in any of the other fragrances listed above.

So, I just purchased this as a blind buy because I am longing for the "perfect" blended patchouli fragrance. I LOVE patchouli as a perfume note but only when it is well blended and "tempered" with other notes...woods, resins, florals, vanilla, etc. I am unsure about Nightfall Patchouli. Based on the reviews, I was expecting something other worldly. I do not find ANY of the fragrance's notes to be very patchouli forward, which is somewhat disappointing. While beguiling, on me this fragrance opens with a wonderful blast of patchouli but quickly morphs into a very sweet, "GRAPE SODA" vanilla (benzoin) with the faintest aroma of sweet almost flowery patchouli. This is NOT a deep, brooding, smoky, intense patchouli fragrance by any means (which I think I prefer). I WISH the fragrance had more depth, more smokiness to it... At this price point, I am quite disappointed. The longevity is not great, silage is low and overall, while I "like" the fragrance it isn't the love I hoped it would be. I'll keep giving it a try.

Sweet Cinnamon Patchouli. This has that very familiar and cozy sweet, warm, spicy, cinnamon scent that you find in many fragrances like Burberry London for Men and PdM Oajan, but with a hefty dose of classically-green grassy patchouli. It's a beautiful sweet-&-warm patchouli, with a decent amount of sweetness but far from being gourmand. Very lovely, but that sweet spiciness does remind me occasionally of other Herrera Confidential releases, like Mystery Tobacco & Bronze Tonka, especially on initial impression. While that might make it smell redundant to an average person, for me as collector/hobbyist, the difference is clear and far from redundancy. Cool weather, unisex wear that leans slightly masculine. Big "Like".

Patchouli in this one reminds me of a*men almost like an earthy phacet. I liked it the most from the collection but it is too oriental for me. Cinnamon mixes well with clove making it very mysterious. Bergamot is not my favorite note at the top. But anyway is too spicy for me and patchouli in some mixes can make me have a headache, I had enough with mugler. It doesn't last long besides. It is a good fragrance apart from my opinion but definitely not for me. I thought that it would last longer. And sillage is not so big what I think is good because you can manage not to disturb other people with a strong perfume like this one, like a*men or angel which announce your presence even when people can't see you.

Nightfall Patchouli by Carolina Herrera is not just a fragrance, it’s a moment etched in memory. As a long-time patchouli lover, I was instantly captivated by how unique and refined the patchouli is here... smooth, warm, and subtly spicy with hints of cinnamon and clove. I first discovered it at an airport while traveling to South Africa with my mom, and it haunted me, in the best way, throughout the entire trip. It holds a special place in my heart, not just as my first CH perfume, but as a scent tied to unforgettable memories and the beginning of a love affair with elegant patchouli.

In the very opening I was reminded first of Xerjoff's Tony Iommi, and then Initio Blessed Baraka. Still need a full wearing, will update. Update: Haha I have no idea what I was smelling at first. After doing some full wearings of this, I can definitely agree with the AMbre Narguille comparisons. This opens with a very nice boozy sweet patchouli, but it disappears sooo quickly! I'm just left with a bakery smell, and even that doesn't last or project all that much. This one was pretty hyped up for me, and I wish the opening persisted into something more interesting. "Like"

One of the best from the collection.. It does have a grounding yet mysterious "purple" feel even with heavy cinnamon. This Patchouli is on the sweeter side--slightly boozy, chocolatey, fruity, and balmy--reminds me of Angel (Mugler), Coromandel (Chanel), and Oajan (Marly) in order of development!

This is for lovers of deep oud fragrances. I also get cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and raisins with cloves. Patchouli is not the start here, it's just blended in with other spices. Dina_France (perfume reviews on YouTube)

Hmmmm... This isn't bad by any means, but I think that Oajan is a better take on this sweet, ambery, cinnamon-heavy DNA. 8.4/10 imo

Spicy, suave, creamy, amber patchouli.

Top notes smells like nail polish. It’s like I put my nose directly on the mouth of nail polish bottle. Idk if the tester bottle was expose to harsh lighting for too long or it is really supposed to smell that way. Then a clean patchouli mixed with something in between grape soda and raisin came out to play. After the weird opening, the rest is rather pleasant bordering on boring. I’m so glad I didn’t fall for this because it’s ridiculously expensive.

Patchouli???? What Patchouli??? There is no Patchouli at all!!! the scent itself is common to say the least. Sad really. Sweet, very boring and smells cheap!!!. And it is very weak scent! The price for it is embarrassing... Don't buy!!!

@MrCornells, Apparently the range is all EDP with separately available oil/s that enables you to create your own single absolute(?) or blend your own fragrance using a mixture of the range? I checked out the Herrera site as soon as it was announced and got this basic information from there... Edit: Had to check what I'd remembered... There are four oil concentrates designed to be layered with the range, Rose, Musc, Sandalwood and Oud. All of which are able to be applied as a base to one of the other fragrances to enhance certain aspects. Rose oil in particular is recommended with this Patchouli fragrance...

This is a quality offering from the CH confidential line but I must say it's not the most original as velvety rose-patchouli with cacao vibes has been done before...sound familiar? Yes this smells like TF's Noir de Noir but tamer. The initial blast gives a strong resemblance to Ambre Narguile but I wouldn't say they're the same as I find AN a linear scent as opposed to this one. It takes me from AN to Noir de Noir in a matter of minutes. This is only on a test paper though, I'm interested to see how this will play on my skin during the cooler months.

Just saw Emper made Night Patchouli 85ml as a dupe and I'm tempted to order it. They have a line with few more in the series. I have a dupe of Rouge Malachite from Emper and it's REALLY good so I'm hopeful it might be a good duping house. I also saw a dupe for Gold Myrrh from some other house that I'm thinking of. If anyone tried these clones, please could you DM me? I love the Burning Rose clone from Alhambra but don't vibe with Sandal Ruby from Frag World (I think) - if anyone wants this one.

Trying it at night, slightly cold weather. Beautiful and elegant, and despite only having only one note in common (cinnamon) it reminds me a lot of Angels’ Share which I already own so that’s the only reason I’m not getting a full bottle of this. Perfectly unisex, ideal projection to me which means not too much. Good lasting power on skin, eternal on clothes Big fan of everything I’ve tried from this CH line so far!

This is a sweet patchouli. This is a lovely fragrance but there is a truth in advertising issue here. The accurate name for this is nightfall benzion. Next comes the cinnamon then the patchouli. I don’t see it listed but I am experiencing a floral tobacco. My recommendation? Get some of this under your nose. Performance is outstanding. 9 hours later this is still bumping. To me this is a little boozy.

Im living in a country where we only have freaking hot or rain. so usually perfume doesn't last long. but this one really performs well. i give it a 10 spritz and my girlfriend say its not too strong but u can always smell it lingers around. she even can still smell it even after 6 hours of wearing it. The smell is still there even after shower.

Love this one, could literally bathe in it. Ideal Autumn/Winter perfume - I haven't used mine since March, and looking forward to spraying it on again once it gets a bit colder come October/November. Nightfall Patchouli is my favourite out the entire CH Middle Eastern line.

Lovely, sexy & sweetie, but does not last for a long time, also it is a bit expensive. It reminds me with one of the special editions of CH. I wouldn't want to spend that amount of money for this fragrance, if it was cheaper I'd buy it for sure.

If you are looking for a patchouli fragrance this is not it, patchouli is hidden deep inside the juice core. To me its utterly boozy, rum, cinnamon, sugar cane. Date fruit comes to mind, like a warmed date floating in a tropical rum

Looking at the condiments used like: benzoin and Indonesian Patchouli, this fragrance could pass as unisex woody cologne. What I'm curious about is its concentration (certainly it can't be EDC) Is it EDP or EDT or EDT Intense?

Very nice scent, however, at that price it has only been a sample. Found a very nice dupe called Oxana Patchouli by Amaran. Super cheap at TJ Maxx. Smells very close and perfomance is much better the CH.

Sweet Patchouli.. I got the sweet kind of patchouli.. but first (top note) i got the usual burnt patchouli and as it cools down it goes sweet patchouli or let's say very cinnamon than patchouli. Nice

I am surprised to see such offerings by Carolina Herrera. After all the 212 concept which appeals so not to me is their trademark. I am very curious to try these and be back with a real review!

I love this fragrance but at £239 a bottle it’s on a pricey side. Luckily I found a d.upe on eBay called Oxana Patchouli by Amaran. Smells exactly the same and at £16 I can’t grumble.

Love the bottles. Love the visuals. And I'm sure all six fragrances are beautiful. But "vibrancy of forbidden cinnamon"...b*tch please :P I guess I better go hide my quills.

This such a additive and beautiful fragrance. If anyone likes patchouli then this is something one must seriously try. The dry down is absolutely stunning.

Does anyone know where the CH exclusive fragrances are available to try? I've been to two CH boutiques and the sales people know nothing about them.
