Nuit Fraîche

I like the scent a lot, but I say skip this one, unless you collect fragrances, or are fine reapplying this one constantly. I've owned this for a couple of months and with 15 sprays I'm getting 3 hours. This is on par with flea market or dollar store fragrance longevity. Perhaps there's too many of those pesky natural ingredients the internet keeps telling us we "need" or the perfumer didn't scale the recipe for this fragrance properly when they decided to mass produce it. The note breakdown was so minimalistic that I looked at the ingredients and did some research. top notes - lime, bergamot, ozonic notes, black pepper heart - geranium, lavender, sage, violet leaf base - guaiac wood, sandalwood, white musk I could provide the ingredients on the bottom of the box if anyone is interested. How I'd describe this. You've got this airy spiciness in the top, the citrus pairs with the top notes giving it this sweet and sour, almost like the peel of a lemon type scent. As this settles onto your skin the black pepper, sage, violet leaf, geranium and lavender appear, they cascade over the citrus with this spiciness and green accord briefly. Due to that combination of notes it's like the perfumer found a way to create this atmosphere where you're outside at night in a thunder storm. You can smell the damp soil, the grass, the rain and when the citrus reappears you get these flashes of thunder or lightening. This is a very easy to wear fragrance that could be worn by anyone. I wouldn't wear this on blistering hot days, it's office safe unless you bathe in a bottle or two of it. For date night or anything formal, if it's got to be a Caron, try Le Soir instead, the first 20 minutes are kind of odd but it's the best dry downs of the 5 Carons I own and it's the longest lasting by a mile. If this became impossible to get or extremely overpriced online you've got two options: Caron - Le Matin - although it's not 100% the same, it'll fill the void due to their use of guaiac wood and citrus. It goes in a fresh, 90s citrus direction. or The closest I've tried to this would be Rasasi - La Yuqawam Ambergris Showers (Memo Paris - Irish Leather clone). Imagine an EDP version of this that lasts the entire day. Violet leaf and sage are both in it, the citrus used up top is similar too. To me they both capture a similar atmosphere. The only down side is that this Ambergris showers up close has this wet, not smoked tobacco accord to it. In the air you don't notice it. It's more Irish spring soap like.

Wait, this is a Caron fragrance for men without lavender?! Shocked and surprised but then I remembered L'Anarchiste and Yuzu Man don't have the note of Lavender (at least according to fragrantica) so it's cool. It's refreshing to see something not under the Pour Un Homme de Caron umbrella. I wonder if they will add more notes to the pyramid; if they don't, it could be very simplistic OR it could be a very woody composition with light and airy top notes. Either way I'm looking forward to a new release from one of my favorite houses.

Bleu de Caron. Well presented, fresh and easy to wear. This scent is the height of pointlessly inoffensive freshness in the style of so many 'blue' fragrances. There is nothing that suggests using this fragrance at "nuit", but for specific situations discussed below it is fine for daytime wear. Bergamot and a touch of what is probably yuzu or perhaps lime, as suggested in a review below, open things here. Synthetic ozonic notes are also here. In the base, there is a little sandalwood and the dry down is quite pleasant. That's it. Moderate projection at first. Because of the heavy use of synthetics, this scent does linger for 4-5 hours, but after the first 15-30 minutes, it is just slightly more than a skin scent. On the bright side, scents like this one, Bvlgari Pour Homme (in the recent reformulation) and even Carven's L'Eau serve a function: providing minimalistic, pleasant enough low impact scents for business settings and other situations where sporting a scent that is noticable, challenging in any way or even minimally likely to cause offense is an unacceptable risk. I call these scents "job interview fragrances," and while they all have somewhat different components, what they have in common is utter inoffensiveness. Of course, the alternative is not wearing scent at all in such situations, but, weirdly, that choice can entail risk since our clothes, skin, hair and breath all have smells which, with a bit of bad luck, can bother other people. This and other job interview fragrances are nearly infinitely unlikely to bother anyone. If one positive attribute raises Nuit Fraiche above other job interview fragrances, it is that the longevity here is better than the that of the mentioned competitors, both of which disappear from my skin inside of 2 hours. So to sum up, I find Nuit Fraiche de Caron simply OK. There is nothing about this fragrance to provoke anything like a strong reaction either for or against. If you already have a minimalistic job interview freshie fragrance in your arsenal of scents, you probably don't need this one too. If not, everyone needs one of these fragrances in the current era and this one, with its nice bottle, interesting juice color, reasonable longevity and comparatively low discounter price is a safe unisex choice to fulfill this scent function. (I must say that when it looked as though this fragrance was the start of a new direction for the venerable house of Caron following its acquisition by the Rothschild folks, I was worried for Caron's future because I really enjoy many of their products. However, Aimez Moi Comme Je Suis, the house's 2020 release, shows there's still life in the house of Caron.) In the end, Nuit Fraiche will add some needed revenue for Caron and allow it to continue to market it's better, more distinctive fragrances, and there is nothing wrong with that. Recommended for job interviews, particularly those where you are just trying to get through to another round, first meetings with a significant other's parent(s) and similarly fraught social/business situations.

This is nothing like the synthetic mess that is Cool Water. It starts with a invigorating burst of lime and a gingerbread note. Then it creates a fresh soapy aura, like fine freshly milled soap, that is reassuring to me and the people around me. I used to notice the same reassuring effect on others whenever I wore Bleu de Chanel, the only problem is I did not like Bleu de Chanel. That is an amber bomb that's also achingly sweet and only gets sweeter. This is more subtle and mature. Not sweet. Not so many notes. And yes, it's a little bit generic in a non-threatening way but it stands apart because of the quality of ingredients used and the blending. It's not linear and dries with a savory finish that is quite sexy. Maybe that is why it is called Nuit. The spices are nicely balanced throughout the life of the scent. There is something slightly green or vegetal that emerges near the drydown. On me, the scent is lasting although it disappears from time to time. I still get the occasional note of gingerbread hours later. A bargain for the price. And the 75ml gradient glass bottle looks so good sitting next to the bottle of Pour Un Homme Parfum. You can't go wrong with Caron scents, and I would love for them to do an EDP version of this. 8/10

OK it was just a quick test today (so bear that in mind) but I found this to be incredibly soft, and I mean soft! Almost immediately a skin-scent. What I did smell was pleasant though bergamot (possibly lime (unlisted) and ozonic accords mainly. It seemed to last for more than a few hours but as very close scent indeed. Nothing about this scent makes me think of night time so I don't know how they came up with the name but it's certainly fresh, so it's at least half right. Maybe 'Nuit' is a nod to the fact it seems to go to sleep shortly after spraying, or that one could wear it to bed without choking out the bedroom. Perhaps an alternative to something like Mugler cologne.

Fresh, soapy and slightly woody fragrance. The opening is more citrusy and ozonic. Safe for basically everyone.

Caron is an incredible and classic house. Hope this one would be excellent too.
